I've always been a huge Danner fan. I have five pairs. I was at the OneMotoShow down by the waterfront and they gave me a free shoeshine and a coupon for a really nice free tshirt which I picked up later. Later in the day I dropped by their store next to Powell's books with a dead cell phone and the guy working there charged my phone so I could catch an UBER home. What a nice guy! Bought some clothes while I was there. Love this place. I just wish Danner shoes wore out so I could buy a new pair, but they last forever. read more

Needed work boots immediately but also something I can use for outdoors/hiking. Friend recommended Danner and I'm glad he did. Of course I did my reviews on the shoes I wanted to try prior to coming to the store. Tried them in the different colors they had available and everything went smoothly. They have a tester ramp kind of thing with different types of flooring to walk/climb on which is always a good thing to have. I ended up buying a pair and happy to know it comes with a 1 year warranty. Something you would think a shoe so expensive would have. I'll be coming back to get my boyfriend some boots. read more

Just managed to stop myself at the $200 mark no pun intended. For the last 7 years this is my boot brand of choice. Danner 600 mountain have been my everyday wear for 7 years. They are the forever boot and covered by our local Portlandia factory for life. I have never had but one issue in all my 7 boot pairs not to mention all my USA made socks and boots Danner produces. So the PUN is I delt with an awesome employee named Mark. I had never bought from a Danner store as lockdown Covid1984 block our freedom of movements for you tell me the martial law plan 2.0 I learned history of the boot saw examples from the 1960s and enjoyed buying tea shirts socks and cups as I am a fan boy of all thing American Worker. My husband was in need of new work boots. We found a pair of Danners that were on sale so we bought a pair to make sure they would work. They arrived within 2 days and were awesome so I called the next day to order 2 more pairs. They refused to honor the sale price and tried to charge me $100.00 more for each pair. I explained that we only ordered one pair to make sure they fit and were comfortable, as we didn't want to have to return three pairs in case they didn't work out. They absolutely refused to honor the sale price. Not the best customer service experience. Will not buy from them again for this reason. read more

I bought boots from Danners six months ago. The soul is coming off I went, to the factory to see they would fix them I paid a lot of money for them and they used to be very good. They told me in the store they can't fix it because they're seconds and these boots are brand new still they did not want to touch them they will not back their product. They may not look like much but they get the job done in the USA. Still wear them. Those big Euro mountain boots, Danner does those. Logger, electrically insulated, steel toe, work, hiking, hunting, false tongue kilts, desert military, no leather - they do. You can see a subset of their cool boots in downtown Portland at this small retail store. They opened recently with a well executed party. Cool Yelpers represented. Someone should have photographed all the cool attendee shoes. The store vibes Northwest with a focus on 4-15" lace up brown and black leather boots in Euro mountain to logger designs. They have a very cool dressing room, immediately cool kid occupied for the opening, modeled on a teardrop trailer with pre-mid-century wall paper inside. Wood paneled walls everywhere. A mossy and native plant living logo wall. Amid all this coolness, which old-school Danner has just stepped into, is the fact that some Danner boots are actually still made in the USA. The boots carried in this Portland store are the lines made in Portland. That's really cool!! And Danner is doin' it right in the 'hood. Danner collaborated on a boot design with Tanner Goods and sells Tanner Goods belts in the store. This is a good spot for Portland shoe shoppers to check. And a good spot for Portland visitors needing Northwest shoes, uniquely made here! If you are a web shopper, Danner has the Breakroom that has some pretty cool sales sometimes. This Portland company, founded over 80 years ago, is as authentic as it gets. Visit to audition authentic on your feet. read more

We went here looking for boots from the Danner hunting line or combat line and were out of luck. This store had a pretty poor display of the full Danner line. They definitely catered to their specific location only (Portland) meaning they pretty much only had the trendy hipster style boots. I would understand catering to the local demographic if there were a Danner store in every big city. When a company like Danner only has a few locations nation wide i would expect to see more of their full selection. This review is about the store and its staff and not about Danner boots. The store is filled with high-quality stuff and the famous Danner boots. Unfortunately that is the extent of quality and service. There were four or five employees in a relatively small retail space huddled around a laptop - never once were we greeted with a simple hello or an offer of assistance. I'm always appalled by this.. it's probably the multi-year stint in retail where they drilled it in us to greet every customer. Anyhow I digress... Irony of ironies, they were dismayed by the one-star review on Yelp and too traumatized to assist anyone in the store even though the employee-to-customer ratio was two to one. Yes indeed! American made clothing for the urban lumberjack plus accessories you had no idea you needed, all in an incredibly well merchandised store! I may not be able to afford the bulk of the wares on sale at Danner, but I sure have a great time pretending. If I didn't know any better, I'd believe that the powers-that-be at Danner followed me around and took notes about my personal style before opening their West Burnside showroom. It's a quite small store, so I also like to pretend that I'm rich and that this is actually my closet, complete with amazing denim jackets, heavy flannels, leather accessories, kick-ass plant wall and a helpful (and beardy) assistant or two. I'd play classic country and smell of tobacco and mahogany. I'd be the best rich person, I tell ya... I wish the price point was lower, but considering the quality of their goods that's hardly a fair complaint. Danner is rad is high on my list of spots at which to treat myself. read more

Danner may have built its reputation on making durable workhorse and hiking boots, but this location in the West End is 100% aimed at the urbanist (and tourist) who's looking to purchase the outdoor aesthetic that has become so ingrained here in the Pacific Northwest. Of course, it's not just all about fashion...it rains, rains, rains here, and Danner boots are perfect for that. They hold up against mud and water, repel against it, and have soles that can grip the rain drenched concrete, metal and brick. In addition to footwear, this store also carries their namesake clothing/accessories, as well as other brands, the majority of which are American-made (Filson, Iron and Resin). There are occasional sales to help make the high prices more palatable. For the most part, the staff here are quite helpful and friendly. Tip: if you're looking specifically for American-made, check the labels before buying, as some items are made abroad. I'd also recommend trying on the clothing and shoes before buying, as the American-made items are handmade and have variations in fit. read more

I was in birthday shopping for my son, who got a pair of boots, when I saw the Women's Trail 2650. I run a lot on trails, and my go to has been a Nike trail shoe that I love. These, however, have a vibram sole, and after doing some climbing and slipping on some wet granite earlier this month, I thought I would give these a try. They didn't have the color I wanted in my size (and they have half sizes!), so they brought it over from the Airport location for me. Today was a long run day, and I hadn't broken them it, but thought might as well go for it. What a fantastic shoe! It was like I had worn them all my life. Light, flexible and sturdy, balanced over rocks and roots, and well-cushoined. Highly recommend if this is your thing. Here's another thing I loved - my son's boot had an issue with the rubber peeling a little at the toe, and they whipped out a new pair and replaced them on the spot. Never heard of this company but decided to drop in and see what they were all about. I liked their selection of boots but have to say that some of them look a little too heavy duty. I am not sure if that's more fashionable but I guess its whatever floats your boat. I love the fact that their products are made in Portland. I can immediately trust the quality of these shoes and justify its price! The workers at the store were helpful and gave me recommendations. Specifically, I was looking for a specific color and they made a call to all of their stores in Portland trying to find it. I'll echo the other five star reviews here - praising both the quality of the boots and the friendliness of the downtown PDX store staff. I've been into this store three times on three separate visits to Portland. On my first visit, the store had just opened and a magazine photographer was conducting a photo shoot while I was shopping. I was clearly in the way, but the staff went out of their way to help me find the boots I was looking for, regardless of the shoot, and I purchased an awesome pair of Danners. On my latest visit, the staff was also beyond friendly. The boots that I was after were not in their store, but were being sold by a partner company up the street. They gave me information on the boot and directed me on where to find them - losing the sale but helping the customer anyway. Love the smaller boutique vibe of the store that has a winter cabin feel to it. They have a well curated selection of outdoor necessities ranging from leather goods, notepads, books, soaps, and of course footwear and apparel. The employees are super friendly and know their shit. If you're a talkative shopper, they're always up for a good conversation, but if you're not, they'll respect that and not hound you or push anything on you. Been to this store a couple times now and it's been a great experience. The staff are very helpful and personable! I hate having the experience where I just barely set my foot into a store and I feel practically jumped on by the staff with "CAN I HELP YOU?" and "WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?!" And then they basically follow you around repeating this over and over. The staff at Danner respected my space and allowed me to approach them on my own terms. I asked questions, they eagerly answered them, they didn't push any products on me or make me feel obligated to purchase something just because I happened to step in the store. It was a very genuine, pleasant interaction that I don't see very often in retail. I also had a wonderful experience with ordering Danner online. I had purchased a pair of hiking boots from their black friday sale and they ended up coming a little later than expected. A week after I received my boots, I received another package from Danner that contained a HAND WRITTEN apology note and a pair of Woolrich socks. Best customer service ever. I truly feel that Danner genuinely cares about their customers and sees them as people, rather than a source to manipulate $$ out of. I really can't say that about any other company. I would just like to counter some of these 1-star reviews with my little anecdote, as it may help out a store that I found very agreeable, in light of the very negative image that two of the three reviewers thus far have given. I was traveling through portland during their recent snow storm; I landed on the Thursday that it hit, and didn't leave until the following Tuesday. I was very underprepared, having packed a pair of ankle-high Sebago boat shoes and some slick-bottomed Red Wing Heritage boots (both are great boots, but ill-equipped for the unprecedented ice and slush). I happened to be near the Danner store on my last day in Portland because I was headed to Powell's--a must-see by all accounts--when I noticed the storefront. I decided that being in the land of Danner, and having some extra hours to kill, I might as well see about getting a pair--or at least trying some on, as I've wanted a pair of Danner's for a while, but with no stores in my area carrying them, I've never taken the plunge of purchasing them online without first trying them on. So there I was, peeking into store-front window at 10:45, 15 minutes before their opening time. I cupped my hands around my eyes and peered into dim, unopened store. Low and behold, a long-bearded, flannel-clad, Danner-sporting, thick-rimmed-eyeglass-donning shopkeep came to the door and opened it. I asked if he might let me in a little early to look around, as I was a traveler in need of some more appropriate footwear--I showed him my my sad, soppy, slick-soled, boots. Without missing a beat, he graciously let me in early. He then proceeded to tell me all I needed to know about each particular model, and when the time came, brought out as many pairs as I needed to try, while also giving me his own recommendations about how they break in, which ones were best for actually hiking or working in, and which were more for style. He honestly represented each shoe he showed me--telling me which were made in the USA, and which were made in china (only a small selection of cheaper more "style" oriented boots). He didn't hesitate to give me his honest opinions on which would likely last longer, versus which were made more for street-wear. After at least 30 minutes of trying on shoes, I decided that I wanted a style that they didn't have in stock in the color I wanted, so he kindly wrote down the style number and color, without hesitation or any attitude, and I went on my way. The service was nothing but top-notch, and I will certainly be buying Danner boots because of the experience, because I now know what size/style will work best for me. I should also mention that the other person in the shop (maybe the manager, not sure) was also quite helpful, and re-assured me that his Danners had brought him on many a hiking trip over the three years he'd had that particular pair, and still had many years to come (which I could see certainly appeared to be true, both in the wear they had, but also the great shape they were in). Please disregard the low yelp rating and give this store a chance--but if you're in the market for Danners and find yourself in Portland, you probably won't be looking at yelp to make your decision to go or not anyways. It sounds to me like the really long winded 1-star reviewer (though I may be hypocritical in characterizing Ben's post as such) is simply one of those customers who can't be satisfied, and maybe the other 1-star reviewer just came on a bad day. The discrepancy between my experience and the two other reviewers was severe enough, that I decided to write my first yelp review. Consider that and the general lack of eloquence by which Ben L. lays out a rather trivial complaint (he returned a pair of shoes that he was happy with because he didn't get a discount on shoe cream, and was possibly given a bit of sass over asking?) Though I don't think he deserved any rudeness, Ben's response was a bit severe, and I therefore doubt to some degree the validity of his beef. read more

My son got hired on fighting wild land fires and everyone he talked do doing the job told him to get the Danner tropical storms for the job. We went to the Danner store on Burnside and were greeted promptly by a friendly knowledgeable employee. These boots are spendy! However it also quickly became apparent that they are extremely well made. Purchase done, my son left the next day for his new job.Two days later I'm looking in the paper and I see that Danner is having a sale... 30% off! I called the store and asked if they did sales adjustments, the manager told me that no, as a policy they do not give adjustments to pre-sale purchases. Then he asked me what I had bought (one of their most expensive boots) the whole time we were talking he was courteous and professional. Long winded story short. He gave me a store credit for the difference that same day. I was impressed with his solution and will make it a point to continue shopping there and for sure will recommend them to my friends. The staff here were super helpful. Non-pushy salespeople, were available to answer any questions we had about both Danner boots and the other great brands they carry. We bought the Danner boot dressing, to use on my girlfriends vintage Coach bag. When you ask about boot polish to use on a lady's purse, you might expect eyes to roll. But nope! They were super helpful and knowledgeable, these guys and gals are into leather regardless of what that form it's in. read more
