So, I placed an order on what looked like a FILSON Site, which utilized their name and logo. It even linked me to the store and showed my shipping status. I called the store customer service, and the representative knew about this scam, and she just said "that's not our site" contact your bank. I asked her if she and others knew about the scam, why didn't they put a message on their website as a warning? The usual crickets, to me that's bad business and not being transparent as a high-end retailer. I will never buy another FILSON product in my life! Orvis is better anyway! read more

I visited the store in November and made some purchases and then my husband and I took advantage of Filson's 12 days of Christmas in December. We selected our favorite items daily and we called up to order from the Portland Filson Store. We live about 200 miles from Portland and the day I called to place an order with them, the salesperson boxed my item and put it in the mail that day and most times I received the delivery the next day!!! Outside of the flagship store in Seattle this is the best Filson store I've ever seen. Lots of products on hand and great service. Parking is a bit of a challenge but lots of other good stores in the area so park on the street for a couple of hours and walk around. read more

I have always liked the style of coats, shirts, pants, and luggage offered by Filson in their catalog. And I have one of their canvas/leather briefcases which is handsome, practical, sturdy., high quality, and a good value for the money. However, Filson's merchandise is not cheap. And although they have a great warranty and return policy, you do take a bit of a chance by ordering out of the catalog without experiencing the look and feel first hand. So it was a pleasant surprise to visit Filson's relatively new "Brick and Mortar" store here in the Pearl District. It 's a handsome store located on the ground level of the historic Modern Confectionery Building, with separate women's, men's and luggage sections. During our short visit, store staff (and of course the dog) were very helpful and friendly. And as I looked around, I decided that the feel of the Filson Oil Cloth fabric really didn't suit me, but the softer cotton and suede did. Again, it's hard to determine that from the catalog. I was also impressed with some of the selected mark downs and of course the luggage. When Gayle and I have a little bit more time during our next visit to Portland, we'll be back. read more

I've been a Filson fan since I bought a beautifully tooled double buckled belt. It started there. The quality of their products is uniformly excellent, and their lifetime warranty really means lifetime. Filson stuff can be very expensive, and one does not always get the feeling that something like a $38 t shirt or $55 baseball cap is as laden with value as some of their other products. Today I thought I was just looking -- buy myself an indefensible ball cap - and I ended up buying a new rolling suitcase. Matteo answered all of my questions (like all the staff at the Portland Filson, he is extremely knowledgeable and a genuine help), and we settled on the super-lightweight nylon roller. Weighs half what my Tumi does(10+ pounds to around 6.5) and holds an extra 6 liters (30 to 36 L)! But friends, I am not a wealthy man. However, the item ended up costing only $265 after email signup discount. I say "only" because the price allowed me to give the Tumi to a family member, and get a super lightweight full size carry on. I mention the bag's weight so often because I suffer from a chronic neurological disorder, which means I'm often extremely physically weak and have to rely on nice people to schlep my stuff. Anything I can do by myself makes me feel like my old self, for a moment. read more

I love the location and feel of this location. My boyfriend is a big Filson fan so we come here often just to browse and also pick up some new items. I love that they play records, have a hand stamping area for your leather goods, and the decor is fun and outdoorsy. Despite the small size they have a wide selection of goods for men. Sadly, the women's section is very limited - I'm not too sure if the brand itself doesn't have a lot of women's items or if the store is just too small. Either way I mainly just sit in one of the big comfy leather chairs and wait for my guy to be done. While the price is a factor all their products do have a lifetime guarantee and the quality is really amazing. I have my eye on some wool throw blankets! Not to mention the bags with your purchase are so nice all you have to do is add some tissue paper and it's wrapped and ready to give! read more

I cant believe I just found this jewel of a company. I ordered the wool jacket for my husband and he loves it. Wasn't sure on what size on getting being he weighs 150 lbs, the young lady I spoke to was super helpful. The company is based out of Oregon. I received the order three days later. I've purchased plenty of stuff here, and for same reasons others do: it's top shelf and, when you consider how much longer Filson stuff lasts, it's not actually that expensive. As they've grown into mainstream, their customer service has changed a little, but I'd guess it's because they're flooded with people trying to exploit their policies. Waxed cotton, tin cloth, etc. gets tiny holes in it. In the past, people didn't care because it was field or work wear. Their jackets weren't lined because the lining with wear out in the 25-ish years (or longer!) that old tin cloth would last. I bought a crew neck quide sweater there recently, and a year later, the sleeve came un-knit about an inch. I stopped by the store, showed them, and they sent it back for me. I told them I'd pay for repair, and they sent it back to HQ. HQ sent me a replacement in short order, and when I begged for the old one back, too, they sent it as well. In short, as long as you're not trying scam or knit pick them, Filson's lifetime guarantee is very much in tact I think. read more

Our Portland suitcase wasn't exactly packed with hiking boots and binoculars as much as it was packed with heels and shades. This might help to explain why Tiny Trojan and I were slightly more excited about the tax-free shopping than we were about exploring the great outdoors and why a trip to the Filson store was mighty high on my to-do list. I'll be honest: I'm a sucker for Filson's extensive line of luggage and bags. Their distinctive design has spurred a multitude of copy-cats, but no one can build a durable bag quite like these guys. Best of all, their bags age beautifully! There's no "eww, it got scuffed" around these parts; those are badges of honor that are earned in the battle of travel. As excited as I was to be able to see their line in person, instead of online or in their catalogue, I didn't expect to be floored by their stupendous service. It was never pushy, but always eager to answer questions and not afraid to have a discussion about stitching. "If it ever tears or falls apart, send it to our factory in Seattle and we'll replace it for you," was the type of comment that had me wanting to shed a sartorial tear. Although I was sincerely thrilled to see an entire wall of bags, I was a wee bit disappointed that they only carried a limited selection of their entire line. It sort of felt like getting that awesome Christmas toy, only to realize that it didn't come with batteries and then you were more disappointed to find out that Dad wouldn't let you take the AA batteries out of the TV remote control because he was too busy watching Christmas Day Football games and he thought he had done enough having to give a woman a black eye in wrestling her to get your stupid Transformers toy at Toys"R"Us and he wasn't about to also give up his TV privileges to try to make you happy. read more

I went into Filson to buy a hat that I had been trying to find for quite some time. It was expensive, as is everything made by Filson, but there is a good reason for that. They are a brand of quality. They highly emphasize that what you buy will last far beyond your lifetime, and that when you wear their brand, you will stay dry... no matter what. And for the most part, this is all true. My hat is amazing. I wear it all the time when it rains here in Portland and it's always kept my head completely dry. It also is very aesthetically pleasing (which is certainly part of why I purchased it). All in all, Filson is a Northwest based brand that puts quality above all else. It is a hunting/ outdoorsman brand, but they have many choices for around-town cold weather wear. So, having said that, I'm so glad that I found this store who sells bags that will last more than 10 years; and if the bags do breaks down; the service to fix them is free! I like that! I called just now on my dogs Filson dog blanket, which I purchased brand new on Amazon. It ripped while out on a walk on a bush. The material is very thin over the wool underlining. I am super disappointed in the quality, seeing that I paid full price $95.00 and he wore it 3 times. They should call this place 'Dude'son. Virtually no women's section in their store. When I asked, they unapologetically said 'yeah, it's not our primary section' or something to that effect. New to Portland but not the Northwest is Filson's new Portland flagship. Naturally it's in the heart of the Pearl which says a lot of where the company sees it's future. This new satellite is not as grand - or interesting - as it's headquarters store and factory in downtown Seattle. [Attached to the back of the Seattle retail operation is their factory where they still make some of their products. My briefcase came from there when I bought it several years ago.] But like so many 'outdoor' retailers, Filson has managed not to lose its core values and quality control.. Yes, some of their clothing is now made in China which I think is unfortunate - especially considering the pricing. But the store still sticks to the basics: solid tough outdoor clothing. The emphasis is not on 'fashion' but durability and practicality. Eddie Bauer used to be an 'outdoor' company before they went 'mall' and L.L. Bean remains an outdoor company with a lot of extra unncessary junk thrown in the mix. Filson is a step - maybe a step and a half above all that. Again, prices are steep but the quality seems to be there. Folks in their Portland store were friendly and like the Seattle operation, a friendly 'store dog' strikes a nice 'vibe.' read more

I Went to Filsons for my first time ever today! I was immediately impressed by the super down to earth ,friendly, authentic customer service! Parking was a fucking nightmare (due to pearl district construction,fml) so I came in hot! Right away I was blown away from the stereotype I had mapped out in my mind, considering , location, price point and a dash of road rage. The employees were sooo nice (shit, I thought the girl was hitting on my man till she mentioned her husband and I realized she was just genuinely friendly) , she pointed out the amazing sales they had and directed me personally to the (albeit) tiny women's section, which, if I was back in Montana or a hot ass lesbian, I would have been way more stoked on! My man was looking to get his outdoor boujee on (I paid for everything on his visit to Portland so he had some money to flash) and he ended up getting 2 jackets (wool/winter and an all season shell), and a mid priced backpack/ carry on size bag for around $550.00 (sale price from around $975.00). The cashier laughed at my jokes as we waited for my lovers credit card to clear and helped pack the new merch into the new backpack. Ps, they even stowed my purse (at their suggestion) behind the counter, where it got to mingle with expensive things while we shopped. All in all Filson's retail cherry pop was awesome! II have Filson luggage which I received as a gift a couple of decades ago. It has been around the world and withstood the abuse of many airlines, but it's never been damaged. So I had no reservations about purchasing the luggage for a friend who is taking an extensive overseas trip. The luggage is now available in several colors, aside from the basic tan and otter green, but the fabric appears to be of a lighter weight and doesn't have the same indestructible feel to it.
