Time and time again, he has steered my family members from the most expensive dental work (for which he would have made the most profits), patiently explaining the pros and cons. He is a rarity nowadays when we often have to be skeptical of medical procedures suggested by doctors/dentists, second guessing if they are profit driven instead of the patients' best interest. For only collecting from me a $100 consultation fee, he talked us out of getting new dentures for my 92-year-old dad that would have costed $3,600.

This is also my very first cavity in all 24 years of my life and I trusted my dentist through the whole process. I had my one teeth filled and was experiencing pain and sensitivity but I waited about two weeks to see maybe if it's just my teeth trying to adjust. I made an appointment to go back and get it refilled and a second tooth next to the initial one had been drilled and filled without me knowing beforehand. I was never asked or told before the drilling that another teeth would have been touched in the process. I waited another two weeks after that, still pain and sensitivity. I cannot chew on anything on that side of my mouth. I cannot drink anything that is not room temperature without it triggering a sharp pain in my teeth. I went back again and a temporary filling was put it. Same ordeal, pain and sensitivity. Waited another two weeks and did a scan and was told I still had a bit of cavity that wasn't taken care of the very first time and was assured that this time for sure would be the last time I had to deal with this pain. So some more drilling was done and the temporary filling was put back in. AGAIN pain and sensitivity. I went back one last time and was told that maybe I was just allergic to the filling and a different filling was put in. Not only did it not help, I constantly feel like I have to grind my teeth now. This new filling also came with a lingering discomfort that has been causing me a headache. I will not be coming back here and I for sure do not recommend this place at all. Initially after the first filling was done, I had asked if I could please switch a dentist and I was denied that. This is obviously intentional negligence to not put into consideration what a patient is asking you. This experience is really traumatizing especially for what was told a small filling that took me 5 visits going back and forth. Please always ask for a second opinion about your cavities because this could literally be you. I really wish I have never had my teeth filled or step foot in this place. I can never rest or eat the same again and have to deal with this pain everyday. Please go somewhere else or avoid this place.

Dr. Hwang went over my mouth tooth by tooth, took pictures, did measurements, took notes and then he actually spoke to me about my teeth and oral health. Go figure? My cleaning was nothing short of delightful if you can believe that. I felt that my teeth had not been that clean and attended to in years. Keep in mind that I loved my previous dentist, but Dr. Hwang and his team are next level. The office is state of the art and spotless. They even have TV's mounted on the ceiling to watch during your visit. All the equipment looks brand new and the staff are so kind and sweet. I highly recommend.

It seems like they're running the same scam on everyone -- reading these 1-star reviews felt like reliving my own experience. I went in for a routine dental cleaning, but they immediately diagnosed me with gum decay and inflamed gums. Just like others mentioned, the dental hygienist, Everlyn Chen, wasted an hour trying to convince me to get a laser treatment that isn't covered by insurance. They caused so much unnecessary stress, making my gums seem like they were in terrible shape, even though the X-ray didn't show anything serious -- they even claimed I had the gums of a 40-year-old when I'm only 24. When I asked if better flossing could help, she insisted the only solution was the expensive laser treatment, and she pushed $100 shots for each tooth "in case of inflammation." Afterward, Dr. Pinkus glanced at my X-ray, said nothing was wrong, and left without providing any real care or explanation. I later went to two other dental offices, and both dentists looked at the same X-ray and said the laser treatment was unnecessary and my gums were not in serious condition at all. Their approach was deeply disappointing and completely unethical. It's clear their priority is financial gain, not patient health. If you've had a similar experience, consider reporting this to the state Board of Dentistry.

To be fair this could be an insurance mistake, but they were not helpful and there are a lot of orthos that will do this FOR FREE. Our ortho monitored my kids teeth for two years before starting with no payment to lock us in or sign a contract. For free with X-rays and everything! During our follow online meeting, we discussed expanders being 3k and different options available only to be told that my daughter didn't need it (why did you bring it up?) and the cost was a lot more than my ortho that I ended up using (2k more). I felt that the conversation about expanders was to scare me into being relieved that the cost was less than anticipated. The tone was cold, pushy, and the experience was stressful. Obviously we did not go with this practice. The whole experience felt sketchy, and they were difficult to work with. They go above and beyond in their care. One family member had a mouth ache over the weekend and they were willing to see her on Sunday when the office was closed. I've never seen this level of concern for a patient at any practice. Their commitment to patients is beyond transactional. The dentists do not rush and communicate with the patient to ensure all concerns are addressed. I can be grouchy about excess X-rays in general and they are savvy in dealing with my concerns while ensuring I get proper care. The staff communicates fluently in English, Mandarin and Taiwanese. I switched to this practice due to a long distance move and thankfully they have been willing and capable of servicing my dental prosthetics from the previous dentist. When I don't take public transportation and drive to my appointment, I park at Tangram Mall a block away. Surprisingly, I am often able to find street parking.
