I've been to Doctor Yens office a few times. He has done my cleanings, my fillings and all four wisdom teeth extractions. I've alternated between three dentists in the past but Dr Yen is my favorite. i had my wisdom tooth extracted by dr. yen on august 16, 2024. i still can not get over the pleasant and fabulous experience, i had with dr. yen and his staff. two weeks ago, i went to my regular dentist and was told my wisdom tooth needs to be extracted, and i need an oral surgeon to do it. i immediately called my son's oral surgeon, who extracted his wisdom tooth several years ago. and was told that my medical insurance with uhc will not cover extraction, and his fee will be approximate $400 for consultation and between $650-$900 for extraction. unable to believe the exhorbitant coss, i went to the internet to search for other oral surgeons in flushing. i found about six, and had called three of them beside dr. yen, and they were all about the same. on august 12, 2024, when i called dr. yen's office. i was fortunate to have dr. yen took my call. despite, my medical insurance with uhc does not covers for tooth extraction, dr. yen nevertheless asked me for my membership id and put me on hold. when he came back he found out, i already had x-ray taken of ny wisdom tooth by my regular dentist, and to avoid paying for another x-ray, dr. yen asked me to go to my regular dentist and ask for a copy of the x-ray. showing that he really cared for his patients. upon receiving my x-ray, i called dr. yen's office and went there on the morning of august 16. his staff were very nice, courteous, pleasant and very patiently explained to me what needs to be done and since the procedures will not be covered by insurance and i have to pay the cost our of my own pocket that the costs will be betwen $300-$600. the fact, i had already checked with several other doctors, i agreed to his charges after completing all the admission forms, because i was already there, the staff was very kind and checked with dr. yen, and found out that i can have the extraction done on the same day. after the extraction was done, when i was ready to pay my bill, instead of charging me $600, which i would have more than happy to pay. i was told my fee was $300.00. furthermore, a few hours after i got home, dr. yen's office called to check how i am doing. needless to say, i have never ever encountered the kind of services that i have received from dr. yen on august 16 from any other doctors or dentists! read more

First thing he said to me I was late half hour, he doesn't have time for me and the treatment costs least $1200. Did I ask how much it costs????? And just kick me out.. First of all I wasn't late. my appt time was 12:30, i was on time. This guy has very weird attitude, doesn't know how to communicate with patients. Weirdo, do not bring your personal issues to work. I saw the reviews and thought not bad but I should check if in network prior to making any appts as there are some that still OUT OF NETWORK even if they accept my insurance so if OFN still have to pay out of pocket which is not doable. Called on a Friday end of oct 2024 or beg of NOV i didn't put it down. This older woman with an obvious accent answered the phone. I asked her if they accept my Meritain Aetna insurance and gave her the id # to check and everything and in between that she went on and on and I quote #YOU SHOULD CALL YOUR INSURANCE DIRECTLY INSTEAD OF CALLING EVERYBODY. Recently I took my mother to get her root canal done and I got my teeth cleaned. Dr. Yen was so transparent with my mom while performing the root canal that helped so much in answering her fears. He was very professional and I can tell he genuinely cared for my mom. As for my teeth cleaning, it was seamless and squeaky clean! Dr. Cornelius Yen pretty much saved my 95 year old grandmother's life. My grandmother had 5 bottom teeth that were rotting away. We had gone to see another dentist before and they were reluctant to perform on her because of her age. My grandmother stopped eating and was barely talking to us. I had no idea how much pain she was in till I finally took my grandmother to Dr. Yen's office and he took an X-ray and reviewed her condition. He told me that she must be in so much pain, and I asked my grandmother is this why you're not eating? She said it hurts too much and she didn't want to bother us with her problems. After reviewing the X-rays and her medical history, he said i can fix this. My grandmother could not believe what she heard. 1 week later, 5 rotten teeth gone, my grandmother is now eating more and smiling every day! We will have to go back in a few weeks to fix her up with some fake bottom teeth, but Dr. Yen reignited the flame that was once dwindling in a 95 year old woman! I rarely leave a review, let alone this extreme detailed and long one! Whether I had a great experience or extreme awful ones, I kept my opinions to myself. However, I decided to write this review so people can decide for themselves. As a fairly new patient to this dental office, my very first appointment was back in October 2020, it was pretty good that's why I made the follow-up appt right after the cleaning. Although the receptionist booked my 2nd appt this month, a month earlier than the biannually deadline, that was not an issue at all. Upon arrival, I was early and was admitted to the hygienist room within a couple of minutes. I was given the x-ray bib as soon as I sat on the chair. Never was I informed that I will be taking an x-ray nor was I being asked if I'm pregnant. So, I responded politely stating the fact that since I took all the x-rays at my last visit, I would like to decline today's. I even addressed that from my prior dental experience I always get x-rays done annually. Afterall, why expose myself to extra radiation if it's not necessary? However, the hygienist was not content and insisted that I sign a waiver, which I skimmed a couple of those short paragraphs, which sum up, since I refused to get x-rays, I will be liable for my decision and anything thereafter. Which I was perfectly fine and signed my name away. The climax of why I decided to write this review is as follows: This teeth cleaning experience was a frightful one, a complete 180 degree change from the first. To put things into perspective, I can say it was like I fell from heaven, 1st experience, to hell, 2nd experience. (I remembered vividly telling my friends and family that the hygienist at this office was pretty gentle to my teeth and gum, the cleaning was not messy at all and he was considerate and stopped whenever I raised my hand.) This time, not only was my lip bled, my ears hurt, I thought my lower front teeth were being scraped off! I did not know what happened, was this all a dream, it just can't be real! (Am I being treated like this simply because I am bad patient who did not follow the protocol of the office?) Why so extreme? The extra force, ripping my mouth open and imprecision of tool on my poor mouth and gum? When I raised my hands left and right and made uncomfortable faces, there was No concern, No pause, NADA! I have never experienced the fear of the so called displeasing "drilling sounds" of the dental cleaning tool, until now! It was a traumatic experience! My glasses was all dirty from this war-like experience, and my face was drenched with my own saliva mixing with the water sprayed out of the drilling tool! I came out of this nightmare numb and not sure what just happened! Sorry folks, hope you're still reading, because I'm not done! As I mentioned before I was discombobulated and trying to make sense what just happened that I didn't even notice Dr. Yen was in the room! I thought he was a colleague of the hygienist, because he was so young! Therefore, I decided to put my masks on while waiting for the dentist. As I tried to hook my masks onto my ears, I hear a sarcastic tone behind me, "do you not want me to take a look at your teeth?" Oh no, I quickly removed my mask and said of course! Mind you, in still extremely puzzled and at the end, after Dr. Yen examed my teeth and gum, he said everything looks good on the surface, since you didn't do the x-rays, there is nothing more I can tell you. I replied thank you and said yes I try to limit my exposure to radiation. Never did I expect a professional sarcastically snapped at me, "I hope you also limit using your phone at well." As puzzled as I was, I replied of course and putting my masks back on. I am not here to criticize anyone but to share how fearful and hopeless I felt during the cleaning and a female in an insensitive male dominated environment, post cleaning. If I may use a simile to compare, I felt like I was a sheep getting butched! That was how insignificant I felt! In conclusion, I believe empathy goes a long way, other than being professional. No one is perfect but when it comes to providing an essential service, there is a level of excellence. Thank you all for your time reading my experience! I rarely if ever leave a review, because I prefer to keep my experiences and opinions to myself and not have it influence other people's decisions. This week I made an appointment to repair a cracked filling that was originally filled by Dr. Yen in 2019. In 2019, the office billed my dental insurance AND I paid additional cash out of pocket. The receptionist/office manager scheduled my appointment over the phone for Friday at 4pm for consultation of the cracked tooth. When i arrived, I informed the receptionist/office manager that I will be playing cash for Dr Yen's service this time. The receptionist/office manager proceeded to tell me I have an open balance of $80 from 2019 because insurance did not cover something back then and today will be xray and consultation only, I would have to come back again to repair the 3 year old filling originally performed by Dr Yen. When I asked how much is it to repair a cracked filling since I am paying cash instead of insurance, the receptionist/office manager could not give me a price because "there could be other issues or more services needed", this did not answer my question on price to repair a cracked filling. My issues with this experience: 1. Why was the open balance not communicated to me over the phone when I made the appointment instead of right after I arrive? $80 is not much money, if i truly owe the money I could have paid it over the phone. How is it fair to ambush someone about a 3 yr old billing dispute with insurance right before an appointment. 2. Why was this not resolved in 2019 when I had to pay additional cash out of pocket? The office could had resolved this issue by explaining to me the billing dispute back in 2019 and how is this my present day problem. 3. Why didn't the receptionist/office manage inform me over the phone that no tooth repair services will be done after the consultation? Meaning I would need to take off another day from work over poor communication and poor business practices. 4. If I am paying cash, shouldn't the patient have the right to know how much or atleast an estimate it is to repair a cracked filling?! I think Dr Yen's services are good not great (considering a 3 year old filling is already cracked). His business practices and receptionist/office manager are extremely poor, communication and billing are non-transparent. I wish no small business owner any harm, but I highly do not recommend anyone going to Dr Yen's practice/office because of horrendous office manager's communication and business practices. read more

I had a bad experience with Dr. Yen. I was looking for a dentist in flushing and found him on Yelp. I came for a regular cleaning. First they took a bunch of x rays which is fine for a new patient. Then doctor told me I needed a deep cleaning and also remove my wisdom teeth. I agree with removing the wisdom tooth, but deep cleaning? I go for a cleaning once every six months, why i would need a deep cleaning is beyond me. Needless to say, i never went back to them despite several calls from them. Apparently the deep cleaning cost over a thousand dollars and they had gotten the pre approval from my insurance. Before I begin. I want you to know I hated going to the dentist, but coming here really changed my opinion of going to the dentist... To start off, the waiting room is very welcoming, the lighting is bright so you can see clearly and the receptionists were very nice as they greeted me. Most dental office I went to looks so scary with the dimmed lights and cranky receptionists. But when I entered this dental office I felt different. I didn't feel scared or just nervous. Here I didn't mind waiting, but of course I didn't even have to wait long before I was called in. Dr. Yen and his assistant was not only very professional but also very gentle and always smiling, my previous Dentist didn't even smile at me, but when I saw Dr. Yen greet me I felt relax and at ease. I got three of my wisdom tooth pulled out at his office, I went a total of 3 times and each time and I enjoyed every minute of my visit which is very rare in a dental office for me. I even can say it was the best experience I had getting my tooth pulled out. Dr. Yen explained the procedure very clearly so that I felt safe that everything will be done well. Dr. Yen and his assistant even asked if the music was ok for me. The music in the patient's room was very soothing to listen and other times it was nice rocking out to the music too! It was like a different experience every time! Overall, from the warm receptionist to the gentle Dentist, even if this office was in Chinatown I will happily make the trip there because every time I visit I feel very happy with my experience! Which again is very rare for a dental visit! My parents had a poor experience here. My mother had an appointment and was going to go in with my father, but they refused to let my father in even though it was over 95 degrees that day. My parents are over 80. They eventually let him in after some arguing. Then when my mother asked the doctor if he can put some sheets on the exam chair, the doctor said that my chairs are cleaner than your clothes! This is extremely rude and disrespectful. I'm currently swimming in a pathetic percocet pool of self pity but I wanted to write this review in hopes that it benefit someone looking for a great oral surgeon. I've gotten one wisdom pulled before and the traumatizing memory still haunts me. I had a 3rd molar that needed to be yanked out of my skull immediately due to the pain it was causing me. I've never gone to Dr. Yen before and I was scared sh!tless walking into this procedure. It's a complicated procedure that involves some risk but Dr. Yen knows his dentistry. He's very warm and his fun personality put me at ease. He took extra measures to make sure I was numb before he began. He took his time with the tooth extraction and always made sure that I was at my most comfortable. Despite my intense fear and moaning, he still called me a "patient patient". After the procedure was over, I felt this overwhelming sense of relief and gratitude towards Dr. Yen. I don't just want to rave about Dr. Yen. Even his staff from the very first phone call I made to make the appointment was extremely kind and you can just tell that they that my best interest at heart. The day I wanted to go in was already fully booked but when I explained my urgent situation, she very readily scheduled me to be the first patient and the staff all came in early so I could be cared for. Dr Yen is very professional and skilled at what he does. I am always relaxed when I'm there, and they let you choose your own background music as you get your procedures done. The staff members are all very nice. When I had my first dental implant procedure, I was about to cry (no, serious, it was scary, okay?) and they were able to give me a stress ball and calm me tf down. Last time I went there to have a front chipped tooth fixed, and he was able to fix it completely without giving me any anesthetic (That's skill right there!) Overall I'm very glad to have found a very HONEST, professional dentistry to go to for my routine exam (which, now it's not so scary anymore) and get all my dental problems fixed. I recently had my wisdom tooth extracted where the whole process (including wait time for anesthesia to kick in) took less than 20 minutes! The actual pulling of the tooth took less than 10 minutes and virtually painless. Dr. Yen is truly gifted at what he does. He also puts the patient at ease with his great music selection and friendly personality. I have to admit, I was a bit worried at first because of his exuberant demeanor. But do not fret; he is extremely professional and gave knowledgeable answers the many many questions I had. The staff is also friendly and the office is kept tidy and clean. First thing first, there are two Dr. Yen's: father & son. I had the pleasure of getting a wisdom tooth removed by the younger of the two. The process was quick, efficient, and overall painless. Dr. Yen did several tests to ensure I was properly sedated (locally) before proceeding to remove the tooth. Mine you, my tooth was partially impacted and had a terrifying hook, not much unlike a pirate's hook-hand (is that what they're called?). Though somewhat stubborn, my wisdom was extracted without issue. Normally, this would be 4/5--after all, any competent oral surgeon should be able to extract a wisdom tooth, right? Well, the kicker was the little old lady at the front desk. She called me two days later, on a Saturday, and asked how I was doing!! She told me: "make sure you rinse with salt water and dab some of those meds, you don't want a dry socket now." Having been told what a dry socket was by Dr. Yen, I knew she meant business. So I politely obliged and followed her/Dr Yen's instructions to the tee. Received a call two weeks later as a friendly reminder to get my stitching removed. Went in the following day and Dr Yen was as adroit as ever. Last but not least, Dr Yen (the son) has a decently acceptable taste in music. as an instructor for the american heart association ....i was looking for a dentsit during the pandemic. i've e-mailed everyone that i had known & have taught them cpr. but, they're was only one office that answered me within 20 minutes!!!. hooray!!!-it was dr. cornelius yen and his lovely secretary molly -my diagnosis-was tmj-what we call locked jaw!!!. my experiences were outstanding!!! from the moment i stepped in to the moment it was time for me to leave. what impressed me was dr. cornelius making sure i had an extra mask. and molly making sure for my follow-up that' s we call the european etiquette. please everyone we all have to be very very patient during this pandemic!!!as we say rome wasn't bult in a day!!. and yes, i must say mrs. stella was just as wonderful as the dental staff!!! and in greek we say "axios"!!!deirdre linardos-post-script-see you soon !! read more
