This is my 3rd review and I can't say enough about the care I received. Today I had a cleaning and it was the BEST I have EVER had in my 64 years!!! From Ana once again welcoming me in such a warm, friendly manner to Dan taking xrays and prepping me, all my worries were put to rest. Then, Gianni the dental technician was SO Gentle, thorough, precise and calming. AND she liked my favorite song that played during the procedure. I told her she is the MOST Gentle I have EVER had! But or And, I didn't feel she skipped or did any less of a job. I felt totally taken care of. Then Dr. Ukaigwe came in and followed up - NO Cavaties!! The entire team and process was so great I left with, indeed, a SMILE on my face!!!! read more

I had my regular yearly dental cleaning scheduled. I'm a new patient to National Dental and had only been there for an emergency tooth repair. When I went in, I was given x rays and then Dr. Bo came in and pointed out some spots in my teeth that needed care. Then the hygienist, Sergio, came in and started taking measurements for gum recession (Ive never had this done at a regular cleaning, but it's been 8 years so maybe times have changed). Sergio then explained they were going to recommend a deep cleaning to get deeper pockets, a tooth scaling, and he mentioned something about a laser on my gums. I had already explained to the doctor and the hygienist how scared I am to be at the dentist. I explained again that I would just like the regular cleaning today and would think about the other things he recommended. He told me he would need to contact insurance and once they heard back in 2-3 weeks, they would schedule me for my deep cleaning. I explained again that I didn't want the deep cleaning, and that I would just like my regular yearly cleaning. At this point, he said he would not do that because it wasn't the course of treatment he recommended. I told him that I didn't want that and I felt like this was a scam. I wanted my regular cleaning. That was what my appointment was for. He left to get Dr. Bo. She came back in the room and told me they would not be doing the regular cleaning because it wasn't the course of action Sergio recommended. So I asked if they were refusing to do the cleaning today and she said yes, so I left. I requested the company not go thru my insurance to get authorization for a deep clean because I don't want it. I also requested they send me a letter that they refused me the service I wanted. They said they didn't refuse me a service, that they didn't prescribe a regular clean, but rather a deep clean. Every dentist I have ever gone to has tried to upsell this deep clean, but I have never had one flat out refuse to perform the regular clean. I called my insurance company (who said this sounds all too familiar) and filed a complaint with the BBB. Scam. read more

I wish I read the reviews here before I visited this establishment. I don't like to write a negative review. Sometimes businesses may have a rouge employee, or some people may have a bad day. And I don't want to associate the whole business with one person's bad action. Most businesses, they take feedback and correct their mistakes. But this clinic is rotten top to bottom. One procedure they told me my insurance didn't cover. And I made a deposit, and the procedure was performed. When I found out later that my insurance actually covers some portion of the procedure, I went back and asked them why they told me it was not covered. They gave me a bunch of excuses. I told them to submit a claim to my insurance and refund portion of my deposit. Not to return portion of the deposit, they went ahead and submitted another procedure that never been performed and never mentioned to me that I needed it. The insurance declined the claim rightfully so. There were few more incidents before this that no one expects from a professional. At the beginning, I thought the issue was only at the front office. Finally, when things got worse, I raised my concerns and dissatisfaction to Dr Sayamol Bo Voraragsa (aka Dr Bo) thinking that she would correct the mistakes done by the people at the front office. To my surprise, I found out that she was in it all along. This is the worst clinic. This is my first negative review to any kind of business ever. I wouldn't recommend this clinic to anyone. My wife had a filling done here and was not told at time of service that it was not covered at the normal rate by insurance. We got a mystery bill in the mail and had to spend hours trying to figure out what the charge was for. They admitted their mistake but refused to rectify the charge. The office manager Mohammed threatened us with sending our bill to collections. Corporate billing basically admitted to medical extortion saying that 'if the procedure was necessary, she would have it anyways' to explain why cost of the procedure was not explained before the service. In addition to this, the wait times are long, the communication is poor and service is unreliable (my wife once waited in a doctor's room for 45 minutes only for the dentist not to show up). Avoid at all costs. read more

They're crooks. Stay away from this place if you don't want to get scammed into unnecessary and expensive procedures. If I could give it 0 stars I would. I came in for a routine dental cleaning and was told that I had severe gingivitis and had to come in for a follow-up appointment as soon as possible to undergo gum laser therapy treatment and a deeper cleaning. The hygienist took 15 minutes to clean my teeth before I was brought into a room and quoted $1550 for the follow-up procedure. I was warned that my gums would basically rot off if I didn't get this treatment. Long story short, a dentist friend of mine advised that I try conservative treatment: brushing 2x a day, flossing, and anti-microbial mouthwash. I did this for a week and then was examined by my dentist friend. We compared his periodontal chart with National Dental Sunnyside's and they were completely different. He could barely break a 2 on most of my pocket numbers. He said there was no way they were honest about their periodontal chart and that they most likely fudged the data to make me a candidate for an expensive treatment. He also told me that the hygienist rushed my cleaning and that there was a lot of plaque left in my teeth that could have easily been removed. I tried calling back over five times to get back the deposit that I put down on this procedure. They eventually provided me with a refund receipt and assured me that the deposit had been refunded even though it hadn't. I ended up having to dispute the transaction with my credit card company who determined that they had never refunded me. The dentist office eventually processed the refund to resolve the dispute. What an unpleasant experience! It's now been 3 months and my gums are perfectly healthy with 2x daily brushing flossing. All these guys care about is lining their pockets with money. To start off I have a fear of dentists. When I came in yesterday it started off really nice. But once they had me in the chair they were rough with their x-rays. Then another dentist comes in and she starts explaining a procedure they want to do to me, the amount was ridiculous. I then proceeded to leave because I can't afford the cost. Then today rolls around and they call my wife to spread lies about me saying "i was rude. That I disrespected my wife to them. That I used profanity." I mean who does that?? Isnt there some doctor/patient privacy thing? (Watch yourselves with them) Very unprofessional of them. Needless to say I will never return to that awful place. I encourage everyone to avoid that place like the plague that it is. read more

Unprofessional. Unscrupulous. Unbelievable. In a nutshell, they perform many unnecessary procedures in order to bill insurance and they attempt to overcharge patients, hoping that they don't try to negotiate down. My initial visit for a routine check up took 2 hours. The first 20 minutes I waited while staff arrived late. Then I was subjected to unnecessary and painful intraoral X-rays, which were pointless because they ended up taking a panoramic dental x-ray anyways (the machine that spins externally). Then they exhaustively explained how to floss and tricked me into a "low cost" fluoride treatment, which was in fact $65. When I came back to have my cavities filled, the staff were locked out of their own office and did not gain access until an hour later. When I laid down, the dentist told me he would be filling 4 cavities, not the 2 cavities noted at the initial visit. Upon inspection, it was indeed 2 cavities. During the procedure, the dentist stopped and yelled into the hall because he was missing certain tools necessary for the routing procedure. Finally, after the procedure, when I went up to close out, they attempted to charge me more than the quoted price earlier in the week. After I noted the discrepancy, they asked, "What did we say the price was?" I was able to pay the original price. When I finally received the itemized receipt, I realized that they had performed so many unnecessary procedures in my initial visit so that they could attempt to charge insurance. What a waste of time--and such a scam. Don't come here. read more

My husband had a HORRIBLE experience at this dentist office. Before booking the appointment he asked if they took our insurance, and they confirmed that yes they did. My husband was then charged $2000 for two procedures. He assumed this must be the price for our dental plan. After doing some research, we realized this was not the correct price. When he asked the dental office why he was charged so much they said they didn't take our insurance. They have the nerve to continue sending us a $60 bill after all that. Additionally, the repairs they did do lasted only a year. My husband had to get his root canal done again somewhere else. I would not recommend!!!!! read more

I love this office! This place was recommended to me by a friend 3 years ago. I've always had a good experience here. The hygienist helped me realize why I needed to get an electric toothbrush and honestly, I can't go back to a manual brush. Dr. Bo is also fantastic. My previous dental location, in Manhattan, did not take my new insurance. So I wanted to find one closer to home, and stumbled upon National Dental. Office is clean and up to date. Staff is informative and welcoming. Typical appointment, xrays and cleaning, which went smoothly with a reasonable wait time. I did experience a 2 hour wait for a 5 minute evaluation for one appt. Granted, I did miss my 13:00 appt, and they were able to squeeze me in for a 15:00. The evaluation was short for a chipped tooth, to be told that I need to schedule my follow-up appts to fix it. But so far, its been fine. read more

As the owner "Derek M" suggested, I reached out to allow them to make things right - but I called least 5 times and they give me the run around--they refuse to let me speak to someone in charge. I leave messages and no one ever calls back. It's pretty clear they do not care, which isn't surprising given that I paid in full, so they have their money already. This is an update to my review, never coming back to this place again, I came in for a teeth cleaning today and after I was done with my appointment I needed to get a paper referral from the front desk, and experienced the most disrespect from a front desk person named Virginia over an honest review I left on Yelp. She started off being nice before giving me my paperwork, but then goes on to mention if we saw that you left a bad review, 2 days ago, but you came in, I was already pressed for time because I had leave for work, but instead that ugly basic front desk person wanted to bring up a bad review I had left, and I'm thinking to myself why are you bringing this up, especially when I'm about to leave, and told her this was very unprofessional, Virginia, also said if you got a problem you can let us know, she was very rude and aggressive all for a Yelp review. And I told her this is so unprofessional, and asked can I just get my paperwork, I don't have time for this, like wtf! And I asked to speak to Dr.Bo, and Virginia, the front desk lady, who job was to just hand me over my paperwork, says, Dr.Bo is already aware of your review, and I said okay I said I'll go to a new dentist from now on, and she said okay. I was so in shock by this behavior, what a way to embarrass your self a dentist office, definitely giving Dr.Bo a bad review on ZocDoc and reporting this incident to 311, and the NYS of Health. And this was clearly racial montivated, so as a black patient I don't have the free will to write an honest review, without being verbally attached by it. A review should make you want to improve your business, you don't get a good review by acting that way. Whoever is reading this and knows anywhere else I can report this incident or take any other action, please message me and let me know. Sorry not sorry for the review, what a way to embarrass yourself as a front desk worker and a dentist office, and a big way to lose a patient. Attacking a black patient for an honest Yelp review, is wrong. I'm definitely contacting Yelp to flag this business as well and reporting this to the BBB. Three weeks ago, I visited this establishment for my 6-month cleaning and received the worst treatment I have ever received from a medical professional. While Dr. Bo was drilling a filling in my mouth, I got an itch on my chin and proceeded to scratch it. Much to my surprise, Dr. Bo immediately said, "put your hand down." I was so shocked at the sheer rudeness of her command that even while my mouth was open, I said, "I had an itch!" What sticks with me to do this day is that even while I said I had an itch, Dr. Bo said, "still, keep your hand down." Despite the fact that I was angry at the lack of humanity and unprofessionalism that Dr. Bo's statement displayed, I had to wait for her to finish with the drilling to fully express myself to her and that in and of itself was stressful and upsetting. Once she was done, I sat up and told her I did not appreciate the condescending manner in which she spoke to me. I said I had been with the establishment for 4-5 years and had never had this issue. She said she did not mean it that way and apologized. But Dr. Bo, had I not had the courage to call you out on your nastiness, would your conscience have ever sent a signal to your brain to tell you that your treatment of your patient was very poor and uncalled for? Despite that fact that I was imploding, I proceeded to ask her about replacing my mouthguard as a distraction from all of the feelings I had boiling up inside. As a Black woman, I pay very close attention to how I am treated at any establishment because statistics have proven over and over again that when medical professionals bring their biases to the job, our pain is downplayed and minimized and in Dr. Bo's case, F**k my itch, it did not matter, just keep my hand down. Who actually goes about treating patients in that manner when the patient is the one bringing business to your establishment? It's three weeks later and every time I think about this rude encounter, I can't help but ask, "what the hell was that about?" Once I left the office, I immediately started calling friends and family to describe my experience and it took me multiple days to get it off my mind. It took me 3 weeks to muster up the mental fortitude to revisit this awful experience and document it in this review because actions like Dr. Bo's are upsetting and tiring. To Dr. Bo, were I a white person or a man, would you have addressed me in the manner that you did? Maybe you should consider taking an assessment on implicit bias, and making a concerted to treat ALL your patients with humanity. Needless to say, this marks the end of my relationship with this establishment. I will seek a dentist who has better bedside manner and knows how to practice compassion and professionalism in the execution of their duties. read more

I been coming here for 4 years. I was seeing the main dentist, but then he retired:(( after trying 1,2 of the new dentists, finally I got lucky with Dr. Bo . I love her ( if anyone can say that about a dentist ) I highly recommend dr. Bo, 2 of my friends are going to her already, she is amazing, good hands, professional, and very nice person, friendly and sweet. I went here for a second opinion after another dentist would not give me accurate pricing information for a tooth removal and partial flipper. Not only did the give me pricing information in office, they were willing to work with me on a payment schedule and they handled my panic meltdown extremely well. Like many people, I've had challenges navigating trustworthy, good, and affordable dental care, which has culminated in having poor dental health over the years. I found National Dental in 2018 searching for a "no-shame dentist" and Dr. Bo came highly recommended. Let me tell you - Dr. Bo and the entire care team at National Dental are the gold standard for what person-centered, transparent, caring, and accessible care should look and be like in all of healthcare. Their practice is non-deficit oriented, they center and honor the needs and experiences of their patients, are incredible transparent about everything in the care plan (from treatment, to diagnosis, to cost) and always ask for your written consent BEFORE getting treatment. And if you ever have questions about anything like the treatment or price, they have an incredible staff (Jess, Mohammed, and Richard) who spend as much time as you need to break it down for you and answer questions. I have never felt rushed, patronized, shamed for not being able to see a dentist for over 15 years, and if I couldn't pay the balance, a very generous payment plan was created for me. You are truly in very excellent hands and hearts here. Dr Bo is amazing and takes great pride in her work. If you ask me she's an artist in her field. She is gentle, kind, genuinely concerned and very down to earth. I love the level of expertise in this dental office. From the professionalism of the the reception, the ease of making appointments and the warm welcome when you come in, your experience here will be a great one. To the end of the process. Robert is awesome at taking the impressions and also takes great pride in what he does. He makes you feel comfortable and takes very good care of you. Very very disappointed with the staff and the whole place. I made an appointment week ahead of time. My appointment was scheduled for 230pm not that I haven't been seeing but I've being told by front desk that doctor left for vacation and manager later told me that he has an "emergency" they kept on lying and lying until they wasted my whole day and let me wait and wait. In the end I wasn't seen from doctor and left. The manager all he could say was I can schedule you for a another appointment. You could tell he is a foamy person. Please don't waste people's time if you have time don't waste mine. Go next door there are another 15 dentist in that area. read more

Dr. Bo at National Dental in Sunnyside Queens is friggin awesome. I have an unnatural fear of dentist but she was so patient and made the experience relaxing. Because I was a little nervous she took her time and explained everything she was doing. If I felt anything, like pressure or a little discomfort she would warn me ahead of time and let me be prepared for it. Staff was pretty good and on point. Very pleasant and easy to deal with. The only thing I didn't really like was the parking situation. The first time I drove in and parking there was like parking in any area in Queens with stores. After that I took the subway. I was generally happy coming here up until my most recent appointment (August 2021). I have been seeing a dentist since I was a child, 2x a year, as recommended. I have been going here since February. When I first came here in, I had a pleasant experience with the dentist. Yesterday and today left me with a very uneasy feeling. After confirming if my teeth were better since the last visit, I was then offered a $45 fluoride treatment which I have never been offered in my 30 years+ of going to the dentist, including my last visit with this team. I was given the treatment comped after discussion as a courtesy because I had expressed an uneasiness if I was being upsold. While I appreciated this, I later looked online if this was a common upsell tactic and looked at verified article sources along with checking more raw reddit testimonials. The common theme showed this is very common upselling, and likely unnecessary. I then later looked up dental grade fluoride treatment on shopping sites, including amazon, and a 50 pack is sitting on the site for $47 vs a 1 time application for $45 in office. I contacted the office privately and told them I was uneasy about that interaction due to what I found and later was contacted by the manager. He gave me some background as to why it was recommended, but the standards to qualify for the recommendation were very low bar ("do you snack between meals?" LOL), and then was met with a spiel about how qualified his staff was. I honestly left this conversation feeling like my concerns were downplayed and explained away by how qualified his team was vs. an empathetic tone. The argumentative tone I was met with was a complete 180 from the rest of the team. I will not be returning and going to a different dentist. read more

First I'd love to take the time to thank the wonderfully nice girl at the front desk today. I had an emergency where my gums were aching and bleeding & my original dentist (Sunnyside Dental ) will never ( and I say never cause I've called for multiple emergencies ) have the availability to walk in and treat a client for an emergency. Today was my first time at National Dental Sunnyside and the lovely receptionist allowed me to walk in within 30 mins of calling their office . I sat down to fill out paper work with my insurance information. Normally the first consultation is free , which was a big PLUS since I really wanted to know what was going on with my gums! The amazing Robert (dental assistant) took amazing X-rays with no discomfort ( because of my gums ) & called the lovely young lady Dr.Bo to come check it out. She properly explained what was going on and how I can cure it. She even took the time to clean my teeth (without even having the proper appointment or insurance certified to cover it!!) and I was just so amazed . They were all extremely friendly, extremely helpful and take into consideration their clients. I saw clients in and out . All happily leaving so I knew I was in the right hands. I already mentioned to them I'll be sending all my medical records from my last dentist and staying committed to National Dental Sunnyside. All the staff have amazed me with such beautiful costumer service I'd be dumb to take my teeth somewhere else! Once again- for the millionth time today .
