I am 59, pre diabetic, high blood pressure and elevated resting heart rate. My cardiologist said my makers indicated with family history a heart attack in the next 8 to ten years if I didn't loose weight. 5 years ago I had gastric bypass surgery by Dr Shouhed. Yes the robotics was fun and left very small scars. But the result of this horrible surgery on my life has been a disaster. After a consultation with another gastric bypass surgeon, he wondered why I had such extensive surgery, when a sleeve would have helped. I am now malnourished. I cannot eat, or eat very little. My bones are like paper, according to the spine surgeon who did back surgery on me where I developed two fractures. I am nauseous when I eat. Protein makes me sick. Very little doesn't make me sick, so it's hard to get the nutrition I need. At some point Dr Shouhed said his job was done and now I should just see GI doctor, who was not helpful. I am about to change GI docs again, since they know very little about bypass surgery. I lost 50 pounds (at one point I was down to 103 pounds; I'm at a healthy 130 now). The reasons for surgery were high blood pressure and really bad GERD. Both are back. Surgery was a waste of time and has changed my life in a negative way forever. There is no patient care here. I would not recommend him or this surgery!! read more

Dr. Shouhed is a very smart and caring doctor. I have been to so many gastroenterologists who found nothing wrong with me before finding him. Dr. Shouhed said that if he did not find the cause of my lifelong pain and nausea with eating (and sometimes even with drinking water) that he would keep brainstorming until he got to the bottom of my symptoms. When my gastric emptying scan came back normal, he ordered a barium swallow for me where he discovered that I have severe GERD and a mild hernia. He also wrote an order for me to get a celiac plexus block which gave me two pain-free months that I am grateful for. He serves a unique population of patients with complicated gastrointestinal issues. Today, he placed a bravo pH study capsule to see how far up my acid reflux goes. He was even there when I woke up from the anesthesia! I thought he'd be too busy seeing other patients by then, but he cared enough to come back to check on me! Dr. Shouhed did a minimally invasive laparoscopic gallbladder removal on me about a year ago and the results were fantastic ! I didn't have any complications and it truly was minimally invasive ! I walked out with a few Band-Aids closures and I was in the hospital just for two days for observation normally it's one day but I do have a lot of health issues and medical observation for two days was necessary. I have a lot of abdominal complications and I've had many operations, other surgeons did not want to do a laparoscopic removal of my gallbladder however Dr. Shouhed was able and confident enough that he can do a minimally invasive laparoscopic removal of my gallbladder and as he promised the outcome was amazing. I had an absolutely incredible experience with Dr. Shouhed and his team. When I found out I needed surgery I wanted to have it as quickly as possible. I had a RNY gastric bypass in 2006 by a different Dr and 14 years later I was having some problems. I went to visit Dr Shouhed for a follow up on some of the problems. I spent not even 5 minutes in the waiting room. Shortly thereafter saw a nurse and Dr Shouhed in a room. He explained what possibly could be going on. After some diagnostic testing to see what was going on it was what he thought. He explained that I would need a revision. I was reluctant and he was totally understanding. I told him I needed to think about it. My medical problems were still bothering me, I decided to have the revision. He was able to get me in as soon as insurance would clear me. In the surgery room there was Dr Shouhed, a big robot looking thing, and several students. I was treated with the utmost respect. Afterwards, I had a private room. I was there for three days and can't say enough of wonderful things about the nurses, their assistants, the food (for after bariatric surgery was awesome, especially the flavored ice and broth). After the revision, a newly constructed esophageal valve, hernia removal. I now feel 100% better. The recovery was like night and day from my first surgery. I have to contribute that to Dr Shouhed's excellent medical expertise. I would highly recommend him and his staff. Please don't go anywhere else. He is it!!! read more

Simply the best! I had been suffering from severe acid reflux most of my adult life. I was on multiple medications and had to watch my diet and even then I still continued to have acid reflux. Some nights the reflux was so bad I was unable to sleep and felt lethargic and tired the next day. I decided enough was enough and consulted with my internist regarding fundoplaction. My internist advised me against surgery and recommended we increase my meds to 3'xs daily. I decided I could not continue living like this and made my first appointment Dr. Shouhed. During my first visit I was very impressed with his knowledge, understanding and patience to explain everything from potential causes and required testing to get to the root cause of my problem. After having all my testing completed Dr. Shouhed recommended we move forward with surgery and I very happy he did. His technique is amazing and honestly I can't believe I didn't see him sooner.
