Is Danny's Baboquivari fancy? No. Is Danny's the best bar in Tucson? Maybe. I absolutely love this place. I'm a sucker for a good dive bar, and Danny's is probably my favorite in Tucson. The service is always great, the jukebox is excellent, and the atmosphere is exactly what I want in a neighborhood bar. I recently discovered that they also make some of the best micheladas in Tucson, which just made me love the place even more. The location is convenient, there's decent parking, and there's usually a food truck parked out front if you get hungry. The booths have this awesome 1950s restaurant feel that I really love. There are games on the eastern side of the bar, while the western side has TVs, so there's something for everyone. Personally, I love sitting at the bar. The service is always quick and friendly, and it just feels like the kind of place where you can settle in, have a drink, listen to some good music, and actually enjoy yourself. I love how Tucson has bars that are spiritually urban and belong downtown, but find themselves in a dusty corner of Midtown instead. There isn't much about this neighborhood that I find appealing, but after hearing so, so many locals rave about this place I had to check it out! It is so, so divey without being gross. It is remarkably dim inside and feels like you're in someone's basement. There are tons of pool tables, and ample bar seating. Drinks are hella cheap and the patio is great for groups. Thursday-Saturday, you'll usually find a food truck parked out front. It's got everything you need to make it *the* destination for your weekend night plans! read more

Ok, I like the vibe here. It's the perfect epitome of a fun dive bar. Drinks are poured strong and it's pretty affordable. I had a really great bartender but I don't recall her name. I really like the atmosphere. My ONLY complaint, the bar stools with foam in them, have obviously been there for quite awhile. My thinking is the one I was next to had been urinated on a few times, maybe by older individuals? Because though the seat was not "wet" the stench of urine from the visible foam was vile. I didn't say anything. Bad smells come hand in hand with a dive bar, but I am writing this just to bring awareness to the people behind the bar who may not be close enough to smell it. read more

This time, we played darts and foosball, though one of the foosball handles was missing its grip, which made it tricky to play. Waiting for my AirPod maxes to get repaired found this cool little smoking porch in the back of this crazy bar low ceilings pool tables Gallagher machines great service 151 in the afternoon on a Sunday and I think I like this joint picnic tables with horseshoes, welded into them as frames crazy signs all over the outside fences if assholes could fly this place would be an airport. All the bartenders here are amazing consistently. The atmosphere is great, with a jukebox for music, pool tables, shuffle pick, darts and pinball. There isn't a kitchen but they often have food trucks & you can bring in outside food. The only time I have ever seen issues here is when problematic customers come in, obliviously make problems & then get tossed. The bartenders keep up with everyone & keep everyone safe. read more

We bought beer venders a courtesy drink, (which I'm not sure is even truly allowed to their company) but she got nasty and rude when truly everyone was minding their business. He moved towards me and said it again as if i didn't hear him the first time. Being KD Automotive since 2006 i was shocked by the unprofessional attitude from kate williams the bartender asking me to leave as i had already moved to the far end of the bar. This place is a total dive... as in, the PERFECT dive! This is one of the places in Tucson that has been around forever and hasn't changed in the slightest! If you're looking for high class clientele, top shelf service, a swanky atmosphere and bougie drinks... this isn't it. However, if you're looking for strong, cold, cheap drinks, stained carpet, an unpretentious crowd, shuffle board, billiards, darts that "that guy playing hair-rock classics on the jukebox" then you're going to love it here. That's it. That's all there is to Danny's... it's a great place to knock back a few drinks with friends. My advice - don't order anything "up," nor should you order anything fancy. If it's more involved than a whiskey & coke or a cold beer, save it for somewhere else. This is a no-frills Tucson institution that is in the perfect midtown location directly across from Winterhaven. Normally I don't leave reviews but last night was ridiculous. Look, I understand it was a busy Saturday night but that doesn't mean ANYONE deserves shitty service or even just your shitty attitude. I went up to the bar and waited patiently to be helped. When the bartender came up, I was ordering my drinks and was very rudely cut off with "we don't do that here." I couldn't even finish my sentence before the bartender just cuts me off!! I asked for a mojito. I've been a bartender, I understand not having fresh mint but come-on, it's three ingredients. "Do you not have sugar?" I said. And she just looks at me and goes "I said we don't do that here." Okay I got that but why give me attitude? I told her I've order this drink here multiple times and her response to me was "well did you come during the day? Because those bartenders do it differently and we just don't do that stuff at night." The point is that I've gotten it here in the past, I KNOW you had the ingredients for it so why throw away money like that? Whatever. I ended up ordering a vodka cranberry and I had to go ask my friend what he wanted. Of course she gave me attitude when I had to leave the bar to ask my friend. I come back and she says "and?" I hand her my friends card to pay because I definitely do not want to start a tab with her. She comes over and hands me the card back and says "um, you don't look like a John." To which I reply "yeah, my friend is buying our drinks..?" And pointed to my friend at a booth.. she just gives me this sour look and walks away. I've been to this bar many times and have NEVER been spoken to this way. I don't know if it's because I look young or she was having a bad night or what but I was very disappointed with my experience last night. Giving a dive bar 4 stars means that you recognize the following: it is a DIVE BAR. The clientele will be a far reaching range of young college kids to grizzled regulars. My favorite thing is when an older guy sneezed at the bar and the bartender yelled "DID YOU SERIOUSLY NOT COVER YOUR MOUTH?" We got a couple beers, shot four games of pool, picked out a ton of weird music on the jukebox (Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch: "Bout Time I Funk You), and then tried out the air hockey table. I'm really torn about whether I call this place a 5 star and the things that really prevent that are maybe the lack of a more robust jukebox and the tiny bathrooms. These two things make me bring my rating down to a 4 star, but make no mistake I LOVE THIS PLACE. The bartenders are friendly, they've got the games: pool tables, dart boards, shuffle puck, pinball, air hockey. They let you bring in your own food or take advantage of the food trucks that come by this place. They have some tvs (but aren't an abrasive sports bar). They have bar seating, some tables, and some booths. They've got the smoking patios (which is deceivingly large). The drink prices are right. It is centrally located. What more do you need? If it's a recommendation, take mine. The crowd can be hit or miss but whether or not the parking lot is full doesn't impact the fact that this business is doing its job well. read more

Don't bother asking for anything with more than 2 ingredients. Thats a no. Dive bars should have SOME type of charm but this place is just gross. One of the doors on the bathroom doesn't even have a lock. Like come on, guys. A new knob is like $25. The other night I was there for the second time and last time. I said that the bartender was a sunflower under my breath. She asked if we wanted to leave or be escorted out. If you're gonna be rude, take the scrutiny back. Acts like doing her job is the worst thing in the world to ever happen to her. Super condescending, unfriendly, refuses to make any drink more complex than a vodka cran, will roll her eyes and scoff at you countless times - I just truly don't know how she still works here if she treats everyone like this. Closed out my tab after two drinks last time just so I could avoid interacting with her, and even then I dreaded asking her to close my tab. Really sucks because this place used to feel comfortable and fun and she completely ruins the vibe and I won't be returning until she's gone. read more

I usually have a good time at Danny's but after a recent experience I will never be going back. The bartender was being a complete trash bag the entire night. After a couple beers my friend ordered a water and the bartender grabbed a random dirty glass off the bar, dumped the contents, and without rinsing, filled it with water and ice. He then placed a straw in the water that had disgusting black nodules on the drinking end and served it. My friend pointed out the grotesque straw and the bartender gave a halfhearted apology and got a fresh glass. We wrote it off as an accident and went on with the night. Later in the evening, we noticed that the jukebox seemed to be malfunctioning whenever our songs were playing. The first several seconds of the song would play before it skipped to the next track. Other songs seemed to be playing fine but our songs were getting skipped for some reason. This happened several times. We wrote it off as a problem with the Jukebox but after our last song was skipped, the bartender got on the PA system and announced to the whole bar, "That song sucked." I should mention that this isn't one of those Internet jukeboxes where you can pick whatever song you want. This is a good old CD jukebox with a selection of music curated by the bar's managers. We put money into the jukebox, waited our turn, and the shit heel bartender publicly insulted us. At this point I demanded the bartender refund the money from the jukebox and close my tab. He refunded me $1 out of the $4 I put into the machine. He returned my debit card with no receipt and told me to leave. The next day I found that he had charged my card $125. We are talking about a total of 8 drinks split between two people at a dive bar. Even if we were drinking top-shelf liquor, the total shouldn't have been more than $64. I would like to make it clear that this bartender is a total stranger to me. It is not as though we have some history that might explain his behavior. I was just hanging out with a few friends at the bar, playing shuffleboard and pool, and listening to the jukebox. As long as Danny's employs people who engage in this larcenous and unsanitary behavior, I cannot recommend anyone spend their money there. Please, for your own sake, stay away. read more

I like to think of dive bars as falling into an estate composed of 2 houses: Dive Bar Major and Dive Bar Minor. Dive Bar Minor are dive bars because they fill the criteria of shabbiness, chronicity, and total aversion to pretension or the modern philosophy of customer service. These are neighborhood working class bars that have been open forever due to the steady pickling of the liver of their loyal patrons and see no reason to renovate, clean up, or attract a younger and upwardly mobile yuppie set.. Bars falling under the house of Dive Bar Major have all the same criteria plus one special factor: they have this difficult to describe charm that stimulates the nostalgia, irony, and coziness centers of the brain all at the same time. There is a peculiar grace that comes out of the place which is why young, hip people show up consistently at a crusty, blue collar, desert-lizard bar like Danny's but will never go to a place like The Bambi Lounge- which is essentially the same thing yet totally lacking that final ineffable quality of Dive Bar Major. So go to Danny's. Sit in a vinyl booth, chat up the surly bartender, and have a glass of whisky that would be priced as a triple up in the Foothills. The tunes in the jukebox are hipster approved and there's a woodfire burning out back. Marvel at the (correctly) anatomically labeled mixed media graffito of a female pelvis in the men's bathroom. Ahhh dive bars. Oh how I love thee. Danny's is just one of many, but most definitely a favorite. Cannot lie, we are there frequently enough to be known not only by name but by drink of choice that is nicely poured (and priced) as well. Juke box has a great selection and clientele is almost as varied as the juke box. Back patio makes for great conversation and friend making. No seriously, I have made 2 life-long friends cause of this place. Bathrooms are...well, dive bar bathrooms so don't expect much. The worst part about living where we are in Tucson is the lack of friendly, cheap bars with a jukebox (as opposed to a drunk person warbling in a corner), pool tables, fussball table, a cheery bartender-ess - a place where everyone knows your name...for better or for worse. Danny's has all of that. The few times we've been here is because of Winterhaven, which is right across the street. And we look forward to Danny's as much as we do Winterhaven's Star Wars nativity scene, whose concept was no doubt inspired by a few too many reasonably-priced libations at Danny's. Don't be turned off by the entrance and surrounding area: you won't get mugged. Inside is a cozy bar reminiscent of that 70s Show basement, complete with veneer wood paneling and vinyl red booths. The drinks are surprisingly varied for a dive bar - you have a choice of beers and low- mid-upper range alcohol. We had a margarita and an old fashioned - tab came out to be around $11.00 for both. And quite authentic and well made for a dive bar. The best part about Danny's is the bartenderess who's been working there for at least one year, since she was present during Winterhaven 2014. She knows everyone's names and patrons greet her like family. The same guy sitting at the end of the bar next to the juke, sporting that same spacey look was also there a year earlier. The crowd varies from the 20s/30s pool playing crowd to the if-I-sit-really-still-nobody-will-know-I've-had-one-too-many older crowd. No food available at the bar, though - but they encourage you to bring food in. read more

OK, this is your standard, not-so-standard 'dive' bar. Which means it is friendly, unpretentious, inexpensive, has a good classic rock jukebox, and pours a good drink. Plenty of pool tables and other games to keep you distracted if you so desire. Dark, naugahyde, just as a working class bar should be. Years ago I was in here on a Saturday night. The jukebox was playing, the tv was on but muted. Oddly, it was on PBS. There were maybe 20 people in the place. After a couple hours, Austin City Limits came on--re-airing an old Tom Waits concert. The jukebox was promptly unplugged, and all the tv volumes were turned up. I think that says a lot about this place. As dive bars go, Danny's is a five star for me! Danny's Lounge is my go to if I'm in the mood for decently priced booze, a good jukebox, and I don't feel like trekking down to 4th. The bartenders are always really cool, drinking alone or with people, they'll often come chat you up and hang out for awhile. Danny's always has a pretty decent selection of craft beers, tons of whiskey, and also some good tequilas (my drink of choice). The bar also has an excellent selection of classic rock and some newer, hipster stuff in the jukebox. The crowd that hangs out here usually picks pretty good music in my experience. Danny's also has a pretty extensive back patio as well as a bunch of table games. The back patio is pretty large with a firepit in the winter and sometimes a screen up with music, etc. Not only are there pool tables, but there's another room with a bunch of games like shuffleboard that I haven't looked at too thoroughly. I'd like to describe Danny's as a "classy dive"...or is that an oxymoron? It's a dive, yet it's not too terrifying to where I think I may catch a disease if I touch anything. Drinks can be a bit pricey, I've definitely experienced a couple of "WOW" moments when I saw my bar tab after closing. But you can always go for the pitchers of PBR! Danny's has the best patio I've seen. It's huge. There's ample seating, and a huge adobe styled fireplace for the cold winter evenings. (yes, it gets cold in Tucson) Not only is Danny's a great drinking establishment, but it's great for challenging your friends to a game of pool, foosball, air hockey, and my personal favorite, shuffleboard!
