The rating is inaccurate. The food was low quality and the service was poor. The kitchen (just what you can see from the counter) looks dirty. The girl that took our order, couldn't have cared less about being courteous or polite. She was probably annoyed because we came in at 2:40 and apparently they close at 3. I ordered a cheese burger with crispy fries. Everything was just barely warm. I'm pretty sure that she just warmed up some fried that had already been cooked earlier because they were soggy. My husband ordered the 3 taco special which was a greasy mess with barely warm white rice and refried bean "soup" with no discernible beans. Spent $17.37 that we couldn't even eat. As any frequent reviewer of my posts know, I like to periodically (annually) re-review my reviews as things can change. Sometimes businesses close, get bad, or sometimes, better. This is one of those posts. Yes, I know I've been bad about checking in, but I just had a son, so I've been a bit busy. Plus, since the Pandemic, we've been getting deliveries from here more than actually picking stuff up. I. STILL. LOVE. THIS. PLACE. If I like you, I've told you about this place. If you're from out of town, I've taken you here. If you've asked me for a taco recommendation, I've told you about this place. I've had tacos all over the country, and I still say that Danny's is the best. So, what do you think is on the top of my list now that I'm back from Boston, Danny's! While Danny's Tacos & Grill is in a gas station, do NOT let that keep you from checking this place out. In my humble opinion, Danny's has the best authentic Mexican food in town. Be warned though, Danny's Tacos & Grill is a small place with a small crew (three people, maybe), and it is popular. As they have such a small crew, they normally only have one person on duty, with the occasional two or three person crew for busy times. This small crew style is both good and bad. For the bad, this means long wait times. For example, if you're looking for tamales, you'll generally have to call ahead, maybe even days ahead. They're worth it and better than your grandma's, sorry. If you get there when there are others waiting, you may have a long wait to get your food, especially if only one person is taking orders and cooking. You'll have to wait for them to cook that person's food, clean up, take your order, and then cook your order. At peak times, they have a bit more of an assembly line going. I came during lunch one time to pick up some tamales, and they seemed to be going pretty quick. But, they had two or three people there. The good side to such a small shop is that your food is getting personal attention. It really feels like you're going into someone's home, and they are making your food for you, hot and fresh. I love that. That brings me to the customer service in this place. Danny and his crew love what they do, and they want you to as well. If you have questions, ask. If you want a recommendation, ask. And, if they ever mess up, Danny will fix it. They once accidentally sold my tamale order because they had a huge order, and he had someone drive another batch to my house the next day!! You are not going to get that kind of service from anywhere else. Now, on to the food. Their tamales and tacos may be the best I've ever had and certainly some of the best in town. Again, better than your grandma's. Their green sauce is mind blowing, and it makes everything even better. Oh, and the beans, they're pretty amazing too as they are both equal parts creamy and flavorful. I normally do not mention beans, but Danny somehow has managed to make me like beans, which that alone is pretty incredible. I've had just about everything on the menu and never been disappointed. Though, I always find myself coming back for the tacos and tamales. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the rice lacks flavor, but I always assumed the rice was just for the sauce to be poured on, to reduce some of the heat from the food, or to thicken up the beans. Sometimes, the beans are too thin, and the rice is the perfect thickening agent without distorting their flavor. I never really looked at the rice as a stand-alone food, but more of a condiment for the rest of the food. I agree that the food does tend to be more on the spicy side, but for me, I love that too. I do have some pro tips though. Mix the rice and beans with some green sauce. This mixture is a great standalone addition, and it tastes great on the tacos as well (with more green sauce, of course). Start off with the tacos and tamales (if they have some left) before moving on to anything else. These two items are the stars. Once you've had these, then move on to the rest of the menu. Explore the menu because there are some hidden gems. Get to know Danny and become a regular! He just comes up with new stuff because he loves his food. If you're a regular, he'll offer you some. He even makes a ghost pepper sauce that will wreck you (in a good way). Oh, don't forget to ask for extra green sauce because they never include enough. Have I mentioned the green sauce? It's awesome. As for price, this place is crazy cheap for the quality and amount of food you get. Do I recommend this place? Yes. Even if you live on the other end of town, get your butt here! read more

I asked what does the burrito come with and she was very disrespectful in response (An old lady who looks sweet but IS NOT) Hard to support small local businesses when they treat customers like $#!t *UPDATED* Food itself was good, the owner himself handed my food & he seemed nice & funny. Haven't been to Danny's in a year or so but came back to support small businesses during COVID. Yes, they're still open and yes, they're still awesome. We got the beef burrito. It's HUGE and loaded with your choice of meat, beans, rice, onions, cilantro etc. Everything tastes so good together. Shared with my gf and can never finish a full one by myself. It's around 8 inches long and around $6? Somebody fact check me but it's super worth the price. Secondly, we ordered 4 tacos. $1.25 each and one of each meat. I honestly don't know which one is which, however, the top right is chicken. Bottom right is pork? Bottom left is beef. Top left is pork i think. The chicken was by far the best. It had some reddish/orange spicy outside. The bottom right follows. The beef had a nice sauce that came with it. The top left was kinda bland and dry. Other than that, I've always gotten their huge burritos and they never fail! If the chicken is better than the beef I wonder what it'll taste like in the burrito. Until next time, I guess. Tacos are great and I love how the tortillas are doubled. 3/4 had sauce and weren't dry but juicy. The Salsa Verde is sooooo good! The best banana leaf tamales ever!! I had both the chicken and pork. It was fresh, very hot, and super soft! I ordered two dozens. I can eat this every other day honestly, but I'll probably turn into lard lol. The service as good. Seems like a family own place. It's at a gas station, but trust me I've had so many good gas station foods. The location is kind of deep in which sucks, so let's pray they open somewhere closer to Arlington near the highway. Tacos were great, except they were all stuffed into a single clamshell so every one in three had any cilantro and onions. The torta was horrid, bread was burnt black, blob of beans all stacked in the middle, less asada than a single taco on it. As a topper, one 1/2 thick top of a tomato. Solid authentic gas station tacos for $1.25 each (carnitas, chicken or barbacoa; $1.59 for fish or shrimp) or $4.99 for 3 tacos, rice and beans. The rice is very tasty but the refried beans lacked something (onion/ onion powder or garlic?). The pupusas are good, although I ordered cheese and was given spicy chicken. I was dying for the Oaxacan tamales (1.99 each or $4.99 for the plate), but they were completely out. Other plates for $5.99. This place is delicious!!! I knew I wanted breakfast burritos when I woke up but didn't know where! Well this definitely is going to be a go to place! I went at a bad time unfortunately there was only 1 worker and the credit card machine was not working, luckily I had cash ! I got the steak burrito, chorizo burrito, tamales and chips and salsa. I tried this place out for the first time last night, it came highly recommend by fellow Yelpers! I ordered the Monterey enchiladas. Wow they were Spicy!!! First bite I thought "I don't know if I can handle the spice", but as I continued to eat them the shock of the spice turned into "hey this is pretty good!" I didn't care for the meat and peppers on the inside of the enchilada, they were really dry. Could have also been a result of us going in so late (after 8:30) and the microwave that was used to warm our plates up. The tortillas they used were pretty awesome, I love when enchilada are cooked with soft corn tortillas!! The rice to me had no flavor and was very dry, the beans however compensated in flavor!! They have such a unique flavor that i can't quite put my finger on what it is. I will say mixing the beans with the enchilada sauce was pretty good too! If a light lunch is what you're looking for, try the ceviche. It is refreshingly tangy and bright. Looking for something a little more substantial? The taco special will treat you right. What can I say about this place? I have been here about 5 times in the last 2 weeks since I found out about it and everything I or my co-workers have tried has been absolutely delicious!! Don't be fooled by it being in a Shell gas station. This is real, authentic Mexican food!! The staff is very sweet and accommodating. I have to be honest the food was OK. The beans were vey runny. My complaint is the people that manage the store are extremely rude ~ they act like they don't really care if you're there or not. We had never been there and ordered tacos. I didn't know what kind of beef? I couldn't read the menu ( small letters in the wall) I said ground beef? The lady taking the food order was getting short/angry with me. No no no no no no ....beef! I said ok. No beans and rice.... got it anyway. And find out from the grumpy man behind the counter next to her, it's two different businesses. Food is one has station, the other. I would think that someone would be appreciative to take your money and feed you. Not treat you like a second class citizen. Different culture/ different attitudes. We will not be back. Went back to pick up lunch today, they remembered me, haha. This time my husband also tried chicken and chorizo tacos, and I had a 3 taco combo with just pastor and asada (as I was quite happy with those last time). The refried beans were good, the rice was just so-so but the tacos were still great and it was a nice sized lunch for $5. They have another location where Chicago Corner used to be, a sit down place -- unfortunately, we tried it today and the food there is not as good. The pork tacos were about the same but the refried beans and rice were downright terrible, and they do something different to the beef fajita meat there that I did not care for. Since the takeout location is right near my house I don't have any reason to go to the other location to just get the tacos. Which made me sad because I have been looking for another go-to Mexican place in town with a more extensive menu than La Banqueta and with more good options than Daddy Buelo's, but it was not to be. So, the moral of this story is -- if you live near the Ark.Lane, you're golden. Go there. If you live near Matlock, don't bother with anything but the tacos at their other location.
