I enjoyed a tremendous American breakfast @ Dan's in Buda this morning! I haven't been in in several months...too long...I was ready to see the folks I've become friends with & enjoy food prepared & served with passion! I received a genuine "welcome back" as I walked through the door, waited about 5 minutes for a seat while everything was meticulously cleaned after each guest departed! Marcos, Rue, Cree & Nellie asked how I was doing & shared their latest life experiences...sincere folks that make me feel @ home! My eggs, hash browns, bacon & toast were Awesome! I know this might sound simple & obvious that a breakfast would be memorable, sadly, most restaurants cannot deliver like Dan's in Buda...folks that believe in what they do make all the difference! Dan's has the old fashioned hamburger made to order. It's not one of those nation wide franchises. You get a hot juicy burger. Onion rings are very good, too. THE BEST burgers in Texas!!! Once you've had Dan's all other burgers just seem to be blah. Have to get the curly fries, and don't forget to add jalapenos, and ask them to grill the onions too on a double meat, triple cheese. I've come here a lot over the last five years. Today the place was an incredible mess. Trays everywhere, trash all over the floor - lettuce, fries, straw wrappers. It was absolutely disgusting. Had this been my first visit, it would be my last. I only hope the food quality remains high. I am updating this review but keeping the rating as is. I came through the drive-through today to get two burgers and a large order of onion rings. At the window the cashier asked me to pull forward with onion rings. 20 minutes later I went into check on the status of my onion rings. He said that they had to completely make all new onion rings because they were out. That's fine, but they could've at least let me know rather than leaving me sitting outside for 20 minutes. I can only hope that my burgers didn't sit in the window that long as well. read more

We have been Dan's fans for the past three years living in the area and have visited this location about a dozen times, never a complaint. My son asked for Dan's last night for his birthday... we have NEVER had such awful burgers. We ordered three cheeseburgers, a large onion ring and a small fry. The onion rings were AWFUL from frozen rings, not their normal fresh cut, hand battered rings. The burgers were AWFUL... everything about the burger was warm but the meat, and that wasn't even their normal patty. We were INCREDIBLY disappointed and it will be a long while before we return, if we ever do. We would have been better off at McDonald's. read more

This place is good. I've eaten breakfast and lunch and have enjoyed both. The staff is friendly and helpful, but I've had my issues with the restaurant before. For a period, I kept finding pieces of ham and bacon in omelets that should not have had either. I emailed the company after each incident and they welcomed the feedback. Because there aren't a lot of breakfast options in Buda, I'd often go back after a few months because the pickings are slim. They were doing well, but today I found hair rather than the usual pork surprise. I don't understand how one person, that one person being me, has an over 70% rate of receiving the incorrect order or having something wrong with their order. Although there are things that I do enjoy about this restaurant, I don't enjoy finding things that I didn't request in my food. read more

I have been a long time fan of Dan's until recently. The quality of their burgers has changed and they are not as good, with the burgers having a chewy texture and no flavor. The onion rings are still good. Hopefully they will get back to their previous quality. Till then I'll have to find another burger place. read more

I've always driven by the Dans location on Manchac, but the traffic and long lines told me not to go there. Not being able to find parking gives me anxiety Luckily I was down at Cabelas and found another location! I am used to In and Out burger as a fellow Californian. I know, I know. Another Californian in Austin but I really did enjoy this place. Not only did they have the best onion rings I've had in awhile, BUT they have ranch. The ranch isn't Hidden Valley(at least I think it isn't) Not sure if they offer a lettuce wrap, but I wanted to torture myself with carbs and the gluten. Hooray for allergies! read more

I've never been to a place where at 5:50 in the morning there are already cars waiting in the parking lot for a place to open until Dan's. I think their burgers are ok, but breakfast is where it's at! The drive thru is a plus if you're in a hurry. You want a cheeseburger at 6 am? You got it! Dan's in Buda is a really great place for an inexpensive breakfast. Parking is easier than at the South Austin location on Manchaca Road, and service is definitely friendlier. This location also features a convenient drive-thru, which is constantly busy. Service is pleasant and fast out of the necessity to turn tables quickly. When I ate, a very friendly manager brought out the food. It was a bit confusing as that delivery method can be, because he has no notes of who ordered what and you have to help him sort things out. The manager followed up with us later to ensure we were satisfied with our meals. Get a booth if at all possible. You can jam together the two-tops for larger groups, but, since a breakfast order can comprise multiple plates for one person (pancakes are served on a plate of their own, for instance), you're constantly paranoid that something precious is going to go overboard (minus 0.75 stars). Honestly, their two-tops are best suited for one at breakfast. Combine your plates to be more comfortable eating. Several in my party commented on this aspect of our visit. Pancakes and bacon are spot on and would hold their own against anyone's. The scrambled eggs were flat and dry, not at all fluffy, which suggested powdered or pasteurized origin (minus 0.75 stars). Saturday mornings can get busy, and you'll feel considerable waitress and bus pressure to move on once everyone has cleaned their plates (and, with food this good, everyone will!). That's a bit disconcerting if you choose Dan's for a get-together like we did, but, in all honesty, you'll find that to be true anywhere you go for breakfast in Buda that's decent. A solid 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 for good measure. That can easily be a 4-5 star experience with the right table and menu choices, provided breakfast is a bodily function and not a destination. read more

Earlier this evening, I ordered some burgers, chicken strips, and fries. When I got home, I realized, no chicken strips; no curly fries. We called and asked them to make it right and they did. Not only did they make the chicken strips, they made our entire meal again, so it would be hot. We were also excited to see that they threw some brownies in the bag. We called and thanked them. We went here for breakfast and boy does it get crowded. Not many options in the area, but we were meeting up with a coworker that just had a baby along with a 2 year old....so we got placed in the corner booth and given coloring book pages and some crayons to keep the little one occupied. Our server was pretty nice, it wasn't the cleanest set up (fork and some eggs under the table) but this is a greasy spoon diner so I expect this and look forward to it. Even though they were super crowded, we did not get rushed to leave and was still provided great service. We all tried the biscuits and gravy which I thought was good, I had mine with an over easy egg. The omelets and hash browns also look very good as do their sandwiches. It's not bad but I guess because I'm used to good quality burgers my standards are a little higher for a 4 star burger joint. The place also advertises home made onion rings and that's not what I got with my order. If the onion rings had been on point I would have given it four stars. When you eat here you are in for a treat. I am a native Austenite that has had burgers all over the state and still when I think about the best burger I could get it will almost always be Dan's. My wife and I visited on 01/24/2021 around 5PM. The service was great at this lots of "yes ma'ams" from the lady taking drive-thru orders. Our order came out quickly, fresh and hot most especially the curly fries. The taste, flavor and nostalgia have been here since my dad brought me in 1980's and 1990's. Dan's is and has always been that juicy (some people say 'greasy') hamburger that never disappoints. You need tons if napkins and even terry cloth tyle towels as you eat every last bite of this burger. We orderd the hickory burger and a double meat single cheese both with bacon. My wife ordered large curly fries while I ordered a small. They are always very generous with the fries portions so be ready for leftover fries. As I slowly embrace the new face of Austin and the ton of new restaurants it brings, I am glad Dan's is still here in 2021. Your money and time are worth giving to Dan's as they are still number one in my book. read more
