I ordered a hot latte with oat milk & two different syrups. The latte tasted like as if it were made with Folgers coffee. It also tasted old.. I also ordered a breakfast croissant sandwich, and a blueberry muffin. The muffin was okay. The breakfast sandwich was dry, and the sausage tasted as if it were frozen. The place itself is small and cozy, and the menu is pretty simple, mostly coffee, a few snacks, and a couple of food options. It's not the kind of spot where you go for a full meal, but for a quick bite or a coffee break, it works just fine. The coffee was actually nice, smooth, not too bitter. I also ordered a sandwich, and that part didn't go as smoothly. They completely forgot about it, so my friend and I ended up sitting there for almost half an hour before we finally went inside to ask about it. Only after that did they bring it out. It wasn't a huge deal, but it definitely took away from the experience. Inside, though, the atmosphere wasn't quite my style. The interior is noticeably dark, and it felt a bit heavy, so I didn't feel like staying indoors for long. But the outdoor seating completely changed the experience. Outside it's much brighter and more welcoming, with a comfortable, relaxed vibe. The food I have not had but I will say the coffee is top tier and ambiance is in layers. You want some quiet time stay inside and people watch while you get some work done. They had lots of seating inside and outside. I came in the middle of the day to get some work done on my computer and there were a good amount of like-minded people with their laptops out. Wi-Fi is free for the first 2 hours. After that, you just have to order something. I got an iced matcha and it was delicious. You can tell they made it fresh the right way rather than using one of those sugary matcha mixes. I went on a warm day so it was a little too hot for me in the sun but thankfully they had lots of seating under the shade as well. Temperature inside was also good. I had never been but it was worth the wait. I had to do some work and I typical stay home and work. Sadly, my furry BFF and soul dog crossed the rainbow bridge so I've been trying to get out more and be busy. I digress.... The people were very friendly. I dropped something out of my wallet and the guy in front of me helped me pick it up. I needed a pen and the nice barista lent me one! Two sweet ladies on the couches watched my stuff while I ran to the restroom. :) I didn't make it outside because it was chilly and there were lots of kids running around but...goats showed up outside. Cozy and quiet coffee spot. The indoor and outdoor space is huge, but the parking is not great. There are also play areas outside for the little ones. The service is okay. My husband and I ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches and they put them on the same plate. Very strange to assume two adults are going to share one plate of food. The coffee is good, but the food is premade and reheated. The hive is an "a-okay" place for the area, but I would not go out of my way to come back here. read more

I stopped here right before getting picked up by an Uber while my car was being serviced next door at M&E Auto (they are bomb) and get a coffee. I got the Golden Hour which was not anything turmeric adjacent but is actually a marshmallow hazelnut latte. I got it with oat milk and what I liked the most is it was very lightly sweetened and the flavor was light and not overpowering. Only a couple people were here on an early morning and they must have WiFi because a couple people were working from their laptops. I'm not sure what happens in the rest of the building because there are areas and what looks like a bar but I couldn't tell. They have a decent amount of parking inside the fencing and some outside. I'm from Florida and one thing about I notice about Austin TX is there are an obscene amount of coffee shops. I'm not sure if the Hive is THE coffee spot but it seems like a quiet place to get away and get some work done or meet someone for a bevy or wait while you get your car fixed. read more

Walked in, it was quiet. Girl did not greet me, turned her back started washing her hands. Stopped with her back turned, there was no line, not busy in terms of orders. I waited for another minute, still zero acknowledgement, I walked out immediately. I've been here before but never experienced this trash of service, a simple I'll be right with you goes along way. When I first discovered The Hive in 2021, I was so excited. Great spot off Menchaca, plentiful parking, distinct homey look indoors and spacious garden outdoors. Typical coffee and pastry service at first glance until you get to the counter and realize it's a bit more. Staff is casual, friendly. Great pastry selection. They have packaged snacks (great for kids), and fresh tacos. My favorite is the sausage and egg. I always love the lav latte. The brew is never that special or aromatic though. Great chill spot. I've worked here plenty of times midweek and it's my go-to on the south for a few working hours outdoors looking at a cute flowery, herbed garden. Wifi is decent - held meetings. My only hope is seeing some newer stable furniture outside and more inviting outdoor space. It's got potential! This is further south than I would usually venture but I would say a great work from home spot for anyone in South Austin! The staff was really friendly and was able to guide me since it was my first time visiting. It is a great place to work- plenty of tables and even couches. They also have an outdoor area and meeting rooms(not sure if you need to reserve beforehand). I literally came just to work so I got one of the specialty coffees with a little bit of hazelnut added Plenty of parking, so dont worry about that. read more

We've lived in South Austin for the last 5 years, and have seen bars come and go. Only ever stopped by the Hive a couple of times despite living across the street, but decided to pop in to see the changes Saturday. Honestly, I told my husband it could be a spot I'd be a regular at if the changes keep trending the way they are! Loved the new bartop and setup, and how it has an alternative feel to it between the look and music. Nice that it's not just another sports bar. The service was great, and everyone got a really genuine greeting when they walked through the door (which has been lacking on menchaca lately). Loved the option of late night food as well. We had already had dinner but the sandwich next to me looked amazing. Looking forward to stopping by again. read more

I was there Saturday for their grand re-opening. This place has made some changes and I'm all about it. I dig the new vibe and the direction they're going being more bar oriented while still having the coffee shop open until 5. They moved the coffee counter over inside the building so now the cafe and bar have their own designated area. The new bartenders they brought in are fantastic, all super friendly and knowledgeable. Where does The Hive start and end? Nobody knows. There's so much space, both indoors and out. The Hive gives creative energy and I love how open the and inviting the space is. The decor has that IKEA farmhouse feel, but it works! In addition to serving coffee, they also offer alcohol, smoothies, and food, making it the perfect spot for any time of day. This is a great easy spot for a quick morning bite or afternoon for a beverage. My husband ordered an Americano and he said it was very not that good and tasted like just black coffee. However, I ordered a seasonal latte and enjoyed it. Everything came out quick. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating with food trucks surrounding the space. They have a really cool kids area out back and it looks like they do some live music, but I haven't been here for any live music yet. They have a large garden/outdoor area in the back and quite spacious inside seating with couches and different tables for working/studying. Their London Fog was very tasty and the staffs were very nice - even though it took longer for the barista to make my drink she was very nice about getting it out for me asap. Stopped by on Sat night.. WOW! What a cool spot! The vibe is really fun. Bartenders are on point and dont take themselves to seriously and clearly are experienced. Cocktail menu is approachable but still different from every other bar around the area. Def has oldschool austin style but with a cool little coffee shop to boot. Alittle weird having all the kids running around, if they could do somthing about that I know this place would make a killing!!! Can't wait to see what the future holds for this place read more

This place use to be so cute and cozy. Now not as much, not sure if they're under new management or just completely trying to change the look but not it, looks like your typical boring dive bar, that also serves coffee. They changed the outside from red and colorful to black as well as the inside all the walls are black too. Outside area is getting better though lots of places for the kids to play. Coffee is still decent. But overall such a let down for how nice the place use to be. read more

Seems like a cool place. However not a fan of self serve drip coffee. Coffee bars that charge premium prices and then ask for a tip should pour and serve the coffee. Had to go back and ask for regular milk, and then the drip ran out halfway through my pour and I didn't want to go back to the counter for a third time so I left with a half cup of drip coffee that cost nearly $5. 5/5 Went here for the first time on a Sunday & was impressed by the space! We got a croissant with sausage egg and cheese, an apple turnover, and a brownie and all were delicious! I had a vanilla iced coffee that was good as well. There is a lot of seating options inside and outside, with wifi access as well. Update: 2nd visit, Tuesday ~10am-2pm It was much busier when I first arrived, but there was still enough seating for many people. There were plenty of people working, and it appeared that there were enough plugs for everyone. I tried: * Iced Chai Latte: Pretty standard--not bad, but not amazing. * Iced Hibiscus Tea: Pretty good, though a little watered down, but I liked it. * Iced Green Tea: Standard tea; got it sweetened, and it was nice and refreshing to drink outside. * Breakfast Sandwich (Veggie Patty): Appeared to have a typical slice of cheese and a circle egg. A bit pricey, but it was okay tasting. The one free refill for iced teas is still a nice touch :) The seating outside is very quaint. They have a pretty good fan going at least one of the tables, which made the hot Texas heat surprisingly bearable. Despite being a newer patron, they still brought the breakfast sandwich to my table. In general, the staff are very friendly and make the space a very welcoming place. I think this is my new study/reading spot! read more

IF you are in the area, this is a great little spot to spend some time in. If not, you could probably find a decent place closer. The parking lot is gravel, rocks, and sand and my car was unappreciative of this fact. The vibe here is casual and relaxed, both indoors and out. Though the indoor space felt awkward for some reason. There's plenty of seating outside so get a seat there if the weather isn't too hot/cold. The espresso cocktail is delicious, but the all metal martini "glass" was weird. I shared an order of fries from the food truck and found them to be pretty filling. I came here for the purpose of playing Music Bingo. I stumbled across the event and had a blast. There are no signs about where it's played at which was confusing. So I had to ask a bar tender. It's played outside near, but not actually on, the little stage in the corner. I think all winners could get a free drink at the bar. I say think because I don't remember and we didn't win. And despite the losing, the game is pretty fun. Love this cute little place! Has a massive indoor and outdoor space accommodating for anyone needing a place to works with loads of seating and outlets. Staff is always super friendly, they have a wide variety of options for breakfast, lunch, and pastry wise. Various coffees & teas as well. Only complaint is the coffee is a little sweet, and I didn't love the flavor of the honey latte - that said the vanilla was just fine minus the sweetness! They've got a few food trucks outside as well if you're in the mood for Mexican or Habibi. Lots of parking out front as well. read more

I have given the Hive so many chances and I keep getting disappointed! It's a great space, the coffee and snacks are good, and I have always found the staff very sweet. I work from home and would love to make the Hive my regular spot, but today I was there and the wifi kept kicking me off over and over again, which was super frustrating. That combined with high prices and issues with the A/C last summer just makes it not a reliable choice for me. Super disappointing as it could be a great resource for this part of town! read more

We absolutely loved their backyard/outdoor patio, but drinks and food was just okay!! If you have a baby/toddler/small kid, definitely visit this place, they gonna love it. Service was okay. we ordered drip, cortada, morning glory muffin, Cajun turkey panini and grilled cheese sandwich. Cortado was just okay, my husband liked his drip though. Grilled cheese was good, recommend it, turkey was okay, but the chips it came with was super super salty(inedible), my son who loves chip and eats them anyway they're, dint eat it, and for the price, it was below average. My husband likes the muffin, but they're tiny. So overall recommend this place if you have kids, don't recommend it if for food and coffee!! read more

I LOVE the new Hive! I'm so excited that they're moving away from all the kid stuff. Kind of hard to enjoy a coffee or beer when you feel like you're at a daycare. The bartenders seem very experienced and I've had fantastic service on the coffee and bar side.
