I'd rate this place 5 stars because of the staff and the fresh, delicious food. It's located on the main street in Buda. We were welcomed and seated quickly, drink orders taken. We looked over the menu and asked our waiter what was popular and what they like best. We enjoyed a beautiful salad and a burger that was OUTSTANDING! Very Disappointed -- We Won't Be Returning This place used to be one of our favorites, but unfortunately, things have really gone downhill since the refurbishment. The menu has changed, the portions are noticeably smaller, and the prices have gone way up. I don't mind paying for good food, but I do expect the food and experience to justify the price. This is starting to feel like the prices of the downtown tourist spots, as if they think we're in Fredericksburg. Most of the people who live here are hardworking, middle-class families. We don't mind spending money, but we shouldn't have to pay premium prices for smaller portions simply because a restaurant has a Main Street view. Sadly, this used to be a favorite of ours. It isn't anymore, and we won't be returning. Start looking at why places are closing down, because you're NOT getting community support! I wonder why? The restaurant was very, extremely noisy. Very loud! The lobster bisque was good, but too salty. She ordered a fried chicken sandwich, which came with stone cold french fries. Our server quickly offered to bring fresh, and when they finally came they were hot. I ordered salmon eggs Benedict. I requested, and got, the salmon medium rare. It was good. The dish included massive amount of spinach, which was very, very wet, and flooded the plate. The eggs were both hard boiled, and there was no English muffins until I requested them from our server. The absolute worst I've been here several times and every time it gets worse and worse and worse today I sat at of the bar for 12 minutes without ever being and then I went to the restroom, came back and sat another eight minutes without being approached in the meantime, the waitresses and Bartender all set at the other end of the having some kind of laugh meeting. Brooklyn's Down South is a great restuarant in Buda off Main Street. The staff is really friendly and checked on us several times during our visit. The drinks were great. We had a couple of margaritas. We had fried green tomatoes that were very tasty, with perfectly breaded crust. My wife had Shrimp & Grits. She said it was very good, but wasn't her favorite. I had the Dr. Pepper braised beef dish. The beef was tender enough to tear away small bites. It came with a couple sides. I think we had the Mac & Cheese, roasted garlic potatoes, seasonal veggies and spicy Brussels sprouts. Everything was really seasoned well. The ambiance is sort of small town, family-owed generational pride in serving the community-type vibes. We initially visited this place because of the In Kind app discount. We ordered shrimp and grits, boudin balls, and Cajun eggs Benedict. The Benedict surprised me because it wasn't a plate. It jut came as the Benedict. The server asked me if I wanted any sides with it which should've been an indication to me. But it was fine because I was full. Besides the hollaindaise sauce having Tabasco, it really lacked flavor. The shrimp and grits also lacked flavor. All the flavor was in the shrimp so you really need to mix it all in to spread the flavor. I recommend the blackened shrimp. The sausage that came with it also lacked flavor. The boudin balls were good and probably my favorite part. All in all, I don't recommend this place for brunch food. A new favorite spot for us to frequent now that we are near Buda. The staff was friendly, although somewhat absent minded with our orders. They made up for it with spot on quality food and drinks. We immediately ordered the Braised Short ribs as the menu said it took longer for this entree. So we ordered the Lobster Bisque. As soon as the bisque was brought to the table we were informed the short ribs were already ready. Since we just got the bisque we said hold the ribs until we eat the bisque. The bisque was tasty but it seems the recipe was different than I had had it a few years ago. Seems it was less tomato based than before but no complaints. When we go the entree it was good but you could tell with the ribs that sitting under the heat lamp while we ate the bisque had dried out the ribs just a bit. However, they were good and the sides were great. I'm really liked the spicy roasted Brussels Sprouts and the mash potatoes were very good as well. The first three times we went the food and service were great. However, the last time we went the hamburger meat was subpar (lots of filler and little meat) and the fries were cold, note we came during the week. Brooklyn's use to be a spot in Buda worth the effort, food , service, staff consistent. With the constant staff turnover the diminishing abilities of management and the shrinking menu it is obvious they are headed for closure. They show all the signs of a use to be Place. Today is hubby's birthday so we tried something different. This has been on our list for a year so we thought it was a great place to celebrate. Note: most items are ala cart. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and sat in the front of the restaurant with a great view. Kennedy was our waitress and she was so helpful! After patiently answering all our questions and sharing her advice, hubby went with the alligator bites, braised short ribs, red beans and rice, and Brussels sprouts. We came here a few weeks ago for dinner. My fiancé got the Dr Pepper braised beef, which was very good. Definitely recommend that entree. I got the burger and fries which was alright. The crab stuffed avocado was solid quality wise, although I felt $18 for that and $17 for the lobster bisque was a little pricey. We went today to have lunch as soon we arrived one of the server ask me if I had a reservation and i said no, she didn't greet me or say hi, she just asked how many and how many minutes to wait. Our server he seems hurry and anxious and he didn't ask or check on the food. He did not offer water or refill. He didn't ask if we want a drink. The whole experience was bad from beginning to end. We had been many times in the restaurant but this time the experience was not very satisfying. I do not think we will come back to restaurant because the service has declined a lot and the greeting was not there. We didn't feel welcomed. You need to improve in greeting your guest, check the food, offer a drink. You need to train your servers to provide a better service and make dinning experience more satisfying. read more

Great little scratch kitchen in downtown Buda. They have a great selection of brunch items along with drinks! They made a delicious mocktail for me so I didn't feel left out. The food is marvelous (except the pancakes! Dry and flat, get anything else!!) and the service was spot on. read more

First two visits were charming. Food was excellent. Service immaculate. Third visit could well be the last. Chicken with dumplings, the menu special for the night, was presented as a bowl of gloppy-glue with stuff in it. Waitress was accommodating friendly, and without attitude. The replacement to gloppy -glue was gumbo with someone's hair on the edge of the dish. A Chicken/BLT sandwich is something one has to try hard to screw up. And try-hard they must have. I skipped the onions and avocado, asking for lettuce and tomato only with mayonnaise on the side. The sandwich was served on toasted Thick Bread, a soggy, "Fryer-fat" non-crispy half breast of dry chicken, with limp bacon, wet lettuce, and tomato slices all on Dry Texas Toast. Shrimp Macaroni and cheese was lacking the creamy goodness of Mac and Cheese while the Shrimp were cooked with Cajun spice. This dish was no different than the rest. In conclusion I think Brooklyn's Down South suffers from Poorly executed food coming from an under-trained kitchen staff. Third time is the last time. read more

I dig on the mainstreet Buda vibe. It has that Gremlins and Back to the Future center town feel to it; compact, quaint and homey. Thus, I suppose I'm predestined to entertain all venues that adorn the street as a sort of quenching my lust for a bygone era. Which begs the question, does Brooklyn's Down South live up to the hype I built up in my mind, blending in great food and drinks, maintaining a grounded feel yet elevating the experience? I'm happy to emphatically proclaim yes, it's a wonderful restaurant and worthy to entertain your hard-earned dollars. Brooklyn's is in a very safe part of town with plenty of parking scattered about however looking at the outside it seems very unassuming. Wooden tri- tipped columns support an old-fashioned patio roof with a mixture of brick and wood, seemly ripped right out of the movie Tombstone. However, once your feet enter the building and amalgamation of influences inundate the customer. Silver metal tiles cover the ceiling, dark wood cubbies behind the bar display adult spirits, a lighter grain wood bar separates patron from sud-slingers with TVs strategically placed. The tables are some what of a mishmash of styles; tan and white cushioned booths, dark wood chairs and rod iron crafted tables with generic tops. I don't believe any two walls are the same so if you have OCD, best of luck to you. Let's begin the culinary experience by addressing the spirits. The wine menu is small and have affordable offerings. I'm a Bordeaux French wine fiend which means I was out of luck. That said if wine is a passing fancy or you casually enjoy this might be the right spot. The innovative cocktails are limited as well but well crafted. Brooklyn's apparently likes hot rita's as many of their versions have some chili involved however their house rita isn't hot and well balanced. I also rather like the classic martini as it hits all the right notes on the palate. As for food, I started with the spinach dip which I found odd didn't have artichokes but alas it was pretty good on its own. The cream cheese and sour cream offered the dairy to satisfy the gut while the spinach gave it the earthiness and the ciabatta bread was outstanding. I really enjoyed the offering but would have liked it better with the aforementioned 'chokes. The lobster bisque was all that. A relatively smooth soup studded with nuggets of lobster. The saffron was a nice touch but I did miss a hit of sherry. It's a personal preference but growing up on the coast and eating lots of bisque, sherry is ingrained into my soul as a required ingredient. All things said, it was a great soup. The Caesar salad was really good too. Crisp romaine leaves hold onto the well-executed and homemade dressing (although I didn't catch any anchovy notes). The shaven parmesan added a sharp and salty aspect while the croutons added the much-needed crispy bread crunch. Regrettably I didn't order a full meal so I can't speak with confidence about the stars of the menu but what I did have I enjoyed. Overall, Brooklyn's Down South is a very good restaurant with knowledgeable and fast waiters. The food offers a certain elegance among a downhome USA street setting. The ambiance in interesting and the patrons are lovely people as I did take some time to converse with my fellow customers. I give this restaurant my full endorsement and believe it will give anyone who tries it a great big smile on their face. read more

Advised about some items that weren't available at lunch but we found some great appetizers to choose from. The crab cakes were the best. Nice patio. My partner and I visited Brooklyn's this past weekend for a bite to eat. Saturday they had a special all day happy hour special. We were seated outside as their inside is completely closed for renovation. Because of this all their food was served in take out boxes and you're given plastic silverware. Service was ok. The people are super nice but our waiter seemed a little all over the place which was weird because there weren't a ton of people. I ordered the cheeseburger and a side of fries. The food was pretty bland and the burger patty was pretty dry. The fries were good and you do get a good portion of them. The martini drink my partner got wasn't very good and received a very small portion for $12. The ratios were off. For food served in takeout boxes, weird forgetful service, and incredibly overpriced food I'd skip this place. Buda definitely has more to offer. read more
