The guy that runs this place is a First Class Rip-Off Artist. IF you decide to go here, PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK! Make sure you know your rights and the California smog and registration laws/requirements ahead of time bc if you have to ask "Dan" then you're in trouble. My girlfriend who is new to the area(and the whole smog thing) took the first car she purchased in SD here about 2 weeks after she bought it to see what she needed to get it legal. She had a current smog(within 90 days), title, etc. Not only were they not happy making their fee for simply registering the vehicle, they tried to hit a Grand Slam off her and charge her for like 3 other things she didn't need. I admit I thought seller/buyer both had to smog used vehicle when its sold but not if the car is registered within 90 days from the initial smog certificate. Even after being in business for "40 years" HE FAILED TO MENTION THAT when she gave him her current smog certificate that was 2 months old!! Not only that, HE FAILED HER CAR SO THAT HE COULD MAKE ANOTHER $30 WHEN SHE CAME BACK IN after "driving it some more". To be fair, that is a real thing. If your cars OBD-II(onboard CPU) has been re-set recently the car must be driven to make sure all the system checks have been performed. And there's a section on the smog cert labeled OBDII. The two possible reads for this section are PASS or NOTREADY. HERS CLEARLY SAID "PASS"!!!! So now she's in to him for $50 for a smog she didn't need, and a possible $30 if she were to take it back. A re-test for smog typically goes for free, SOMETIMES like $10 in addition to what has already been paid. And the icing on the cake?? When she comes back in to "re-test", he'll only charge her $10 to submit the results electronically to the DMV... I mean there is no bottom to how low this guy will go. Thank God she mentioned she thought some things were odd before going back and I started listening to her story. I have attached the 2 smog certs to this review. NOTE: there's 1300 miles difference between the 2 smogs... I went to see 'ol Dan about these charges/quotes he had spoken to my girlfriend about. As soon as I mentioned what happened it registered on his face that he knew whom I was speaking about. To avert having a real discussion about what happened he instantly started yelling and being belligerent. To make matters worse he didn't have a face mask on and scoffed when I asked about it. That actually was the main reason I left without getting her $50 back as she has asthma and COVID is a fear of ours because of that. So I vowed to tell this account to any who would listen in lieu of re-payment from Dan's Smog. I say this half-jokingly but also very much in truth that the only thing scarier than Dan's Smogs' respect for customer service, good business, and just laws in general is his respect for a worldwide pandemic that has killed millions of people.... read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I called in to see what kind of cars they had in my price range so that I didn't waste my time and their time looking around at ones that don't interest me. Efficient and always helpful. Yes, it's City Heights... I feel truly safe in that area during the day... can be scary for at night a bit. Haven't compared prices... Went to this place to do smog check. My car did not have check engine or nothing everything was correct. I am not sure if they know what they were doing b/c my car did not pass. But when I took it to a diferent place it passed right away. Just be cautious! read more

This place is HORRIBLE.. If you have a (modified car or any performance sports car) then I highly recommend that you save time by going ELSEWHERE. These guys refused my business after labeling my car as a "kit car". Clearly these guys don't know much about cars considering the only modification I had was a TRD Supercharger straight from Toyota. I lost the c.a.r.b. sticker for it, so it was understandable why they refused to inspect my vehicle the first time. They told me to go to toyota and get a new one. That's not a problem. After a week long process I finally get the new c.a.r.b. sticker and they refuse my business AGAIN. They didn't even bother trying to punch in the executive number into the computer!! After a 20 minute dispute which went nowhere because the technicians are complete idiots. I drove the car down a block and got it smogged at another shop within 10 minutes (headache free).
