My most recent stop was only to pick up some sliced almonds ($3.29) for a recipe -- an item that the two nearby Dollar Stores didn't carry. While there, I also passed a nice display of dried chili peppers, and bought some arbol chilis on whim ($2.29 for 3 oz). Relative to the grocery stores closer to my home, Weis has a far more extensive selection of items. For example, the fruits and vegetables, and salad bar, seem gigantic in comparison. And, as mentioned, I was able to pick up a specialty item, the arbol chilis that aren't available closer to home. Prices are seemingly a bit higher than home, and higher than some groceries stores headed towards Scranton but you'll save some on gas! One odd thing. I found on my receipt that I had earned a few Weis Rewards Points that could be used for gas at Weis' Gas-and-Go, Sunoco, or Mirabiro Fuel locations. However, the points were expiring the very next day (on Nov 25). I am happy to have this store in Carbondale. Staff were friendly. Check-out was easy. Parking was plentiful.

The employee I encountered acted astounded when I asked to use a phone. I explained to her my situation and she then said she "had to ask" if I may use a phone. She got another cashier and they stood discussing my problem while I stood there while a phone was less than a foot from me. Rather than add to the more than 10 minutes I waited I chose to leave and use the phone at Burger King..what if this were a life threatening emergency? I tried their chicken skewers once and they call it city chicken. It's great with nice flavor. The only thing I have had here I don't care for was the tomato pie. The only thing I would recommend is that you ask for salt and pepper in any Boars Head Cold Cuts because Boars Head doesn't add salt to their meats, which is actually a good thing. But it was lunchtime and it was hard not to notice the steady stream of locals, mostly in work clothes and driving pickups. I ordered an Italian sub because the owner and the signs said it was one of their top offerings. And it is the real deal, an Italian Sub worthy of Jersey. Very fresh soft roll with fresh cold cuts, lettuce and tomato and a healthy squirt of oil, vinegar, and herbs that makes this a messy (in a good way) sandwich. My only criticism is that the meat is almost al ham with a little salami and, I think, mortadella, and a single layer for provolone. I would like to see less ham and more of a mix of meats but I'm not whining, as it was good ham and this was a very delicious sandwich. Old-time place with a few tables and a lot of signs. In addition to sandwiches and chips and drinks, they sell fishing supplies and live bait. Big points for longevity: 23 years, same owner. Because of the pierogi and kielbasa signs, I asked if he is Polish and he said, yes: "I don't speak it but I cook it!" I didn't order pierogis but next time I will. Note that they offer then fried or the authentic way, sauteed with onions. I think I will get some of each.
