I got a call while at work from hysterical family, saying that our dog had gotten into it with a skunk. They said he had been sprayed and was bleeding. On my way home from work I stopped in, telling the receptionist what my family told me; that he'd been sprayed and was bleeding. I sat for 25 minutes waiting to talk to someone while 5 other people were taken back for annual check-ups. During this time I also realized that the staff at the front desk were only cold and terse with me. I left and went to a different vet. read more

They fit me in last minute on a Friday. My dog lost use of her rear legs and it was looking very bad for her. I didn't want to pay an emergency vet if at all possible. They got me in and was able to treater and the next day Bella is getting around all better. Their team was amazing and I would highly recommend. It was quite a drive for me from Indianapolis but WELL WORTH IT!!! read more

Dr Crystal and her team are amazing. My dog is not exactly vet-friendly. Dr. Crystal and her team were extremely understanding, gentle with a muzzle (which isn't as bad as it sounds) and at the end of the exam (shots and all); my dog ended up wagging her tail. The lab results came back within 24 hrs and the team was extremely comprehensive noticing hot spots that I hadn't noticed. Highly recommend. The team at Danville Veterinary Hospital are GREAT! We have taken out 2 cats and 5 dogs from toy poodle, beagle, medium terrier mix, large mutt and pit bull. They have always been so accommodating. Some of our animals are anxious at the vet and the staff is so patient with them. I tend to favor businesses that are run by women. Smarter, fairer, less attached to the past. At first blush, DVH impressed me. These people really speak clearly about the animal and their condition. The vets themselves are kind and responsive. And while i always felt there was a little too much emphasis on paying for everything before any services are rendered, i generally was happy with my first two years there (for my two blue heelers). My issue came while seeking emergency service during covid. My older dog ruptured a cyst on his hind leg. The leg was really hurting him, and eventually became inflamed. He was dragging his leg seriously at midweek. So we called DVH. This was the week before Labor Day. The receptionist told my wife the doctors couldn't see us for at least a week. My wife explained how much pain he was in. The receptionist said she was sorry, but they couldn't see us until the next week--"Because of the holiday" (which was still 5 days away). My wife asked if they could refer us to an emergency facility. The answer was they didn't know. The receptionist made an appointment for a week later. I called in some favors, and we were seen in Greencastle the next day. The leg was badly infected. The dog had a serious fever. He was put on antibiotics. Five days later, the cyst was removed in Greencastle. That was the same day Danville had given us for their initial appointment. I'm sorry to give a bad review, but it's clear our dog would have died. Not only did DVH not provide us with service, they didn't help us find any help. I think it may have been the receptionist who irresponsibly turned us away. Still, she's a representative of the business. Disappointing. I'm sure they can do better. We've moved on. read more

After shopping around trying to find some tapeworm medication for cats (Craig and Django) to no avail. Banfield in Avon wouldn't sell me any without my cats being brought in for $39.99 EACH just to confirm that my cats did, in fact, have tapeworms. So I checked the rest of Petsmart and they were sold out of the over the counter stuff. I called Petsmart in Plainfield and they too, were sold out. Went and checked out Speck's Pet Supply and they unfortunately just sold their last one. So I figured "eh, why not?" And called Danville Veterinary Hospital to see if they would sell me tapeworm medication over the counter. Sure enough, they would! So I brought my cats in and registered them to be seen at DVH from now on and paid LESS for the same medication that I would have got from PetSmart. From what I can tell, DVH is a great place and I'll be taking my pets there from now on! read more

Quite disappointed in this clinic. Made an appointment and waited 50 minutes and never saw a physician. No apology or explanation. Then they sent an email thanking me for the visit.... they didn't even log that I had left. I have had issues with them overbooking before but liked the dr so I did not complain. I wouldn't recommend the place unless you have too mutch time on your hands and don't mind an unfriendly receptionist. read more

Dr. Portwood genuinely cares about her patients. She is professional, knowledgeable and compassionate. All treatment options and associated costs are communicate up-front. My Anatolian Shepherd, Cleo, had been going to the same vet in Brownsburg since I adopted him. I made an appointment with his regular vet only to be told, at the time I arrived, that she was no longer with that practice. Cleo did not like the new vet, growled, barked and snapped at her when she approached to examine him. Cleo would not settle down to allow her close to him. She seemed visibly shaken and genuinely afraid of him. I ended that visit and decided to take him to Dr. Portwood at Danville Veterinary hospital. Dr. Portwood was known to me previously as one who treated one of my foster dogs a couple of years before. Upon arrival at DVH, Cleo and I were instantly put at ease by the tech who took us to the exam room. I explained our experience in Brownsburg, and the tech responded appropriately, attempting to calm and put Cleo, and myself, at ease. She was calm, nonthreatening and professional. When Dr. Portwood entered, Cleo hackled a tiny bit and Dr. Portwood immediately took a nonthreatening stance and sat on the floor. She and the tech both spent a few minutes just sitting with us, offering Cleo treats and soothing voices as we discussed the reason for the visit and generally made him feel comfortable and chilled out. Cleo soon settled down, taking treats from their hands and laid down and put his paw on Dr. Portwood's knee. She was then able to perform the exam and administer his vaccine without incident. I understand that stress flows down the leash and that I was probably, at least in part, responsible for Cleo's adverse reaction at the first vet. I was taken by surprise that our original vet was gone and switched with a new vet, who had poor approach skills. I was very happy to have Dr. Portwood and her tech take the time to make the patient (and his mom) comfortable before jumping in to do the exam. Well done ladies, very well done. You are now Cleo's 'regular' vet from here on out. Thank You! read more

I took my male Australian Shepard here to be neutered and he developed a severe internal infection. The infection burst tried many many times to get ahold of the after hrs on call person. Ended up driving him to indy and they took excellent care of our four legged family member. They called us the next day to apologize will NEVER take another animal there. read more

If you live anywhere on the west side, this is THE place to take your furry loved ones. I live downtown now and still trek out to Danville because Dr. Crystal is the absolute best. She is knowledgeable and most importantly compassionate. She truly cares about your pets and will care for them as if they are her own. I have an elderly dog who still gets into things like she is a puppy. We had a scare one morning when I awoke to discover my angel had eaten an entire bottle of her arthritis medication (I call this her suicide attempt). Dr Crystal and her staff were amazing at accommodating us into their already busy schedule and my mind was eased that Dr Crystal would be caring for her as she stayed overnight for an IV and observation. I was prepared for the worst, but my baby girl made it through and Dr Crystal has made sure we are able to continue to make my old dog comfortable and have a good life as her health begins to decline and we near the end. I thank Dr Crystal for helping my dog reach the ripe age of 15 next month. This clinic truly is top notch! read more

We have been patients of Dr Portwood's for about 7 years now. We actually live on the south side of town now but make the drive to Danville each visit. We have 4 dogs and they are all getting older and all have health issues so we have been in quit a bit over the past few months. We have actually been patients of Dr Crystal and Dr Shelly as well and feel like the quality of care is outstanding with all three doctors. The vet staff(techs) are amazing and answer all of our questions and are great with our fur babies. Lorrie and Brittany are great at what they do! They are always cheerful and kind. My wife took my dog to have his yearly exam done. These people should not be considered professional by any means. They told my wife my dog had anxiety and should take these pills which was Tazodone. 10 pills for $18. Their exact words were "we will just give some to you" instead of saying the script is $18 would you like to try them. I called to ask for a refund but they said they were sorry for "your wife's misunderstanding ". My dog has always acted that was and most dogs do act excited or stressed when going to the vet. These people are ignorant enough to lose a customer over $18 because I certainly will not be ripped off and "upsold". You are medical professionals ACT LIKE IT! read more

Will never go back! I waited forever for the Dr. Once she finally came into the room she spent less than 5 minutes looking at my cate, then told me what to do when I got home (didn't actually do it herself), prescribed me the ear drops and charged over $200 which was well over what they quoted. 7 months later I needed more of the drops because the ear infection had returned and they would not write a new prescription.....told me to come in cause my cat was "due" for another checkup. Pretty obvious what they are really focused on.....and it isn't the health of our pets. These other positive reviews must be friends or family. read more

I called during the pandemic and after some jail time to get annual vaccines for my healthy dog. I explained I didn't have a job. I was asked if I had any concerns again about my son's healthy dog. As always I explained he got into some tin foil a year ago. I was concerned and took him to a vet where we lived at the time and the vet there had no concerns about his stool sample. I requested a digestive diet-blend to try since some over the counter things irritated him. I had shown the receptionist a photo. I wanted to try the diet before any more expensive lab tests since he acted perfectly normal all the time. I was told they would call me back "with a quote". I was told I could bring my dog in for the vaccines but not come in with him. I was called back or e-mailed shortly before they closed with a price quote of over $300. I had only asked for vaccines that they originally agreed to do. They have documents where he has been to a vet regularly in our home state. I was sent coupons for his heartworm medication to my e-mail address, then after trying to purchase the medication with the discount, I received an e-mail that the dr. would not allow the purchase. I do not believe this doctor is concerned about my son's dog's health. I would not recommend this facility or staff due to not being inflexible during the pandemic, not listening, changing what was agreed upon and overcharging. I was not told on the phone they would not do the vaccines I was told they would do them. The exam was extra if I wanted it. Then out of nowhere, the exam was mandatory. Only so I could be charged to have the same conversation we have had three times about his diet. read more

Absolutely the worst! They will suck you in with multiple appts and charge outrageous amounts for sub-quality care. BEWARE! Unless you're a millionaire, or just lucky enough to have an animal with NO PROBLEMS---even still, Brownsburg has a spay/neuter/shot clinic for a fraction of their cost. Vets do not work together well. One gone on vacation and other/I'm told the owner!, says, "I'm not involved" then charges $75 fee for visit...ZERO stars! read more
