Grateful for the compassionate end of life care for our cat, Kevin, after an acute critical illness. The wonderful vet explained our options and made the best recommendation for our senior boy after ensuring that his pain was controlled. Thank you.

Bell's R front leg wound after leg and part of her chest were shaved. Other side not shown.

This is pretty lengthy, but my main points are: 1. There was no sense of urgency by the vet (medical director) or staff to get my dog some pain med after she was attacked (unprovoked) by my other dog and was bleeding. 2. Expect a very pricey bill. One of my dogs, with no provocation, attacked my other dog about 7:50a Sunday, Sept. 28. My wounded dog was bleeding a lot from her left ear, with additional injuries from her right front leg and part of her chest. I'd seen VEG in Nora and, unfortunately, took Bell there because it's close. Should've taken her to the very reliable MedVet, west of Michigan Road and just north of 96th St. I called VEG at 8:06a while on the way there, so they could be prepared. I had blood on my T-shirt from lifting Bell into the car, and we got there about 8:20a. She limped in on 3 legs. They put a towel on the floor and placed her on it. Then the medical director, Dr. Goodwin, talked with me. I believe I'd already explained the situation over the phone, and I did to Dr. Goodwin. Bell was the only pet in the entire place for the 2 hours we were there, except for one waiting in a crate to be picked up (it was before we left). There were about 6-7 staffers, excluding the receptionist. What wasn't there was any sense of urgency to, at the least, get my dog some pain medicine. Dr. Goodwin had time to tell me she normally doesn't work Sundays but was there because the vet who was supposed to work left 3 days early to move to Florida. And she asked if I wanted some coffee or cold water. I was distressed and not a good advocate for Bell. I expected the vet and staff to take care of her promptly, instead of telling me about a staffing issue -- and asking if I wanted a beverage. I'd normally have said no, I don't want a beverage: I want you to take care of my dog. But I didn't because I was distressed. About 10 minutes later, I'd say, Bell started getting care, including pain med and sedation so the techs could shave her leg and ear and clean and treat her wounds. Even though Dr. Goodwin said she had advanced training in the area and detected no break in Bell's right leg, they took 7 readiographs per the medical record emailed to me. That was $525 on the invoice. To add insult to injury, the final bill, which included meds to take home, was more than $1,800. A side note: For some reason, the picture I took of her left ear after being shaved at VEG isn't showing below after two efforts. I got an email survey and, after I was back to more normal, filled it out. I guess, because there were negative comments, I got an automated email suggesting I contact the VEG I'd gone to. So, there's a survey about my experience at the Nora franchise that isn't returned to it. What? I didn't follow up immediately because while there with Bell, I got a text from a family member that my adult stepson had been taken to a hospital a few counties away that morning but was being transferred to an Indianapolis one. After a combined 11 days in critical care at the first Indy hospital and then ICU at another, he finally could talk and was almost off sedatives. So I called VEG at 1:05p Weds., Oct. 8, and went into my experience with the woman who answered (I don't remember her name). She listened, apologized, explained that the survey goes to higher-ups in VEG and said Dr. Goodwin would call me back Thursday. I called back at 7:02p today, Oct. 10, and talked w/Meranda, I believe. She also listened as I went through this again and said that not only was there no sense of urgency to relieve my dog of her clear pain but that Dr. Goodwin didn't seem to care enough to call me back after 2.5 days. While the vet techs were kind and pretty gentle with Bell, the overall experience was not what I've come to expect of an emergency vet. If I have need of one again, I won't return to VEG.

Dr Kathryn Mehfoud absolutely gave me only 1 option for my darling dog, Lucy, & I will have to live with the guilt that I cut my soulmate's life short. Using the words, "literally drowning" & "Lucy is suffering" absolutely helped shape my grave decision. In a time of shock, disbelief, & sadness a person should be met with reason, compassion, & empathy. Dr Mehfoud gave me & my Lucy NONE of the above. I have since read the xray report & based on that & the radiologist comments, my Lucy should still be here with me today. She was NOT critical! The radiologist suggested a tap & additional imaging - I was told by this HORSE SURGEON that my Lucy would go into cardiac arrest at any time & she was in such poor shape that I wouldn't even have time to run home to get my son so he could say his goodbyes! I'm putting this out there to let everyone know that VEG has a horse surgeon on staff treating small animals that is using shock tactics to force owners into euthanasia. If she is on-duty, I suggest pet owners walk out the door. Also to add: It isn't an unusual request to call with follow-up questions AFTER you've received the eye-opening xray report which was vastly different from what one was told. Ex: I was told my Lucy was "literally drowning" but the radiologist noted "MILD pleural effusion". Being told I'd have to speak to the Medical Director smells like a CYA situation

My Rocket dog.

I can't say enough about this veterinary clinic. My treasured seven year old pit bull, Rocket, passed away at home yesterday and I didn't find her until I got home from work. I had seen VEG on an unrelated shopping trip and called them. What I found was an angel, Kelly. She told me to bring Rocket to them and they would handle everything. They brought us through discreetly and Kelly held my hand through the entire process. She arranged for Rocket's cremation and scattering at a beautiful park in Fort Wayne at a shockingly affordable price. This place is amazing. Immaculately clean and arranged in such a way that you stay with your pet through the entire process, including a surgical window if you choose. The staff were kind and empathetic and made me feel like I wasn't alone during a horrible, horrible day. Put VEG on your list in case you have an unexpected event with your pet and tell Kelly thank you again from Will.

Review of VCA Advanced Veterinary Center - 7712 Crosspoint Commons, Fishers, IN 46038…read more I had a very disappointing experience at VCA Advanced Veterinary Center in Fishers. While I understand that veterinary environments can be busy and stressful, professionalism and compassion should never be optional -- especially in an emergency care setting. One of the staff members, Danielle, spoke to me in a way that felt dismissive and condescending. When you're already worried about your pet, the last thing you need is to feel talked down to. Communication matters, and tone matters even more when clients are under stress. What was even more frustrating was the sense that administrative or social corrections seemed to take priority over actually helping patients get seen. Instead of focusing on the urgency of care, there appeared to be more concern about correcting people in conversation. In an advanced veterinary center, the primary focus should always be on patient care and compassion. Additionally, the overall atmosphere felt uncomfortable. Some staff members appeared disrespectful not only toward clients but also toward their own coworkers. It did not feel like a supportive or team-oriented environment. When employees seem disengaged or dismissive, it reflects poorly on the entire organization. I truly hope management takes feedback seriously and works on improving communication, professionalism, and overall workplace culture. Pet owners bring their animals here during vulnerable moments -- they deserve empathy, urgency, and respect.

Avoid VCA if possible and certainly do not subject your pet to the care of Dr. Natalia Jurcak--or…read morewhatever name she is using now. She insisted that we subject our cat, Lily, to yet another MRI before she started Lily on Palladia. However, she stated the drug before reading the MRI. In doing so, she caused Lily great discomfort and hastened her death. When it was clear that Lily was reacting very poorly, our experience with the emergency department at VCA made the situation worse. With the help of VEG and Lap of Love, we were able to get Lily the help and rest she so needed. After her death, we received flowers and cards from three other vet groups but no acknowledgement from VCA. VCA is clearly more oriented to money making than pet care. Why charge us thousands of dollars for an MRI that isn't even read before subjecting Lily to an end that was far worse than it had to be. Indiana law permits depositions to be taken prior to the filing of a lawsuit, and I intend to use that provision of the law. I tried easier ways to get answers but VCA was not accommodating. No one called me as I was told they would. Just to be clear, I am not seeking money. I want an explanation, an acknowledgement, and an apology. I will use every legal means available to obtain that.
