Some man…read morewho was not very welcoming to me or MJ, just grabbed the leash, disappeared into the back like he was running a top-secret CIA operation, then returned two minutes later to inform me she had failed. Failed what, exactly? Standing there looking adorable? His reasoning was she didn't approach their 'test dog.' Now, I don't know about you, but I was raised to believe it's actually polite NOT to run up to strangers uninvited. Maybe MJ just has better manners than the average dog? Sorry she didn't charge in for a meet-and-greet like a politician at a county fair. Now, MJ is a rescue, and she is cautious, but she is also the most loving, sock-stealing, cuddle-demanding dog you'll ever meet. Fortunately, we took our business to The Palms Dog Resort, where they actually met MJ, treated her with kindness, and now she loves going there. They do transport of 50+ dogs a month to upstate…read moreNew York... every dog has been neutered, every dog has all shots and vaccinations, all who needed it were treated for heartworms, many have had to be treated for injuries, illnesses or infections... all have had the benefits of living for at least 2 weeks in a foster home with a family... and every one was rescued from a horrific situation or was in a shelter prior to the tremendous efforts put into their veterinary needs. Additionally a large number of cats are rescued and neutered and nursed to health... and a few dogs are also rehabilitated and given veterinary services so they can be adopted locally, sent to other parts of the country, or put into service dog programs. It's an amazing organization doing an amazing amount of work.

Although we have two dogs of our own and a new baby at home, we took the dog in, fed it, bathed it, and kept it safe inside overnight while trying to locate its owners. Unfortunately, the situation became very stressful for our household. Our smaller dog was extremely anxious, and our 62-pound rescue dog was also stressed and beginning to show signs of aggression toward the unfamiliar dog. After 24 hours of caring for the stray and being unable to locate its owners, I brought the dog to the Humane Society, hoping they could take over its care and help reunite it with its family or find a safe outcome. What disappointed me was not the mission of the Humane Society, but the way I was treated during the intake process. Rather than feeling supported after doing my best to help a lost animal, I felt pressured and judged for not being able to continue fostering the dog. The gentleman assisting me seemed frustrated with my situation, even as I explained the challenges we were facing with our own pets and the fact that we have a baby in the home. My family has supported the Humane Society over the years through donations and advocacy, which made this experience especially disheartening. I understand shelters are often overwhelmed and resources can be limited, but a little compassion and appreciation for community members who step up to help lost animals would go a long way. We did everything we could to care for this dog for the time it was with us, and I left feeling unappreciated for those efforts. I truly hope this feedback is taken constructively, as I still believe in the importance of the Humane Society's work. I simply wish the interaction had reflected the same compassion toward people that they strive to show animals.

The guy hates baths, hates strangers, hates being away from me--but Chloe? She talks to him like he's royalty, never rushes, and somehow gets him to sit still for a manicure without a single yelp ( pun totally intended) Seriously, tho if dogs could write reviews, Westley would give her six stars.
