Randomly came across this restaurant. Food was really good. We had the Lamb Boti Kebob, Baingan Bharta (eggplant), and the Artichoke Pakora. Not experts on Indian/ Nepalese cuisine but everything tasted amazing to us. I love every dish and such a treat because there were lots of Vegetarian/vegan options. The servers are nice and gave us tips on how best to enjoy the food. The restaurant has high ceilings so it felt very spacious. We came in a Wednesday so it wasn't busy. We ordered takeout from this restaurant, and I would say it is on par with any Indian food I have ever ordered. We eat mild dishes and ordered them mild and were pleased. We had four entrees. We liked them all but the Paak Paneer was my favorite. Sauces provided were plentiful and tasty. Because our order was over $50, we received vegetable pakora for free, and it was delicious. We forgot to order Naan, but we will next time. The Naan has to be great to be my favorite Indian restaurant. I bet their Naan will be authentic and delicious. This new Indian spot is hopping! My first visit, (for lunch) was great. The cavernous former Mary's dining room soon became packed with patrons and everyone was enjoying the lunch buffet. I LOVED my saag paneer, and also the lamb curry and chicken Tikka. There were numerous chutney's available, as well as dressed green salad, steamed rice, biryani and naan. I didn't even avail myself of all the dishes available. Dessert at the buffet was rice pudding and yogurt with fruit. The chai was included in the price of lunch and hit the spot. Finally, a place to get really good Indian food in Santa Rosa! I ate here last night and was completely satisfied with the service, quality of food, and prices. The Veggie Tika Masala and Chicken Korma was rich and flavorful (the chicken was tender and not rubbery), the Chili Chicken momos were spicy and delicious, and the basil naan had a nice buttery taste. Overall it was a great meal and I will definitely be back, This place has only been open for a few months, so the people who gave low star ratings should give it another try. I have now tried Darbar twice in less than a week! The first time was in person for dinner last weekend. The space is HUGE. It was quiet when we got there around 5:30, but filled out more by the time 6 rolled around. I still think my reservation was unnecessary. All of our food was excellent. For reference, they ask you for what kind of heat you want based on a 5-chili scale. I got medium-to-hot (3-4) and it was pretty spicy, slightly overpowering the flavor of the curry, but I still loved my paneer makhani. Samosas, mango lassi, and butter / garlic naan were all fantastic as well. My partner said their chicken was super tender. I just ordered some Darbar for delivery for lunch (still thinking about it, must be a good sign). This time I got the paneer tikka masala with medium heat. It was absolutely perfect and really hit the spot. It's worth two hearty meals for me. Next stop is to try out their lunch buffet. Finally came to the $20 pp all you can eat buffet, a month after review. It's a nice full buffet with the money, but disappointed the flavors were kind of watered down, maybe for the American palate? No onions, to be found hardly any anywhere. I wish restaurants from other amazing cultures would keep all the amazing flavors in tact, maybe only modifying heat level a bit, but it was too mild and too many items tasted similar; perfect for a bland American diet. I mean there were a few yummy bites into fenugreek or cumin seed... but just too mild over all. I recommend order made to deliver might be more authentic? I won't change my stars, but hopefully they take note; we Americans Ching to East Indian food for authenticity not to see if they can make it mild or bland enough to match a Denny's, please. I was really missing onion and pepper in the tandoori chicken. The servers are attending nicely with water etc., and the place is attractive and clean, aiding ambiance. I arrived a little before 1:30pm for their lunch buffet. They had a large variety of dishes included in their $20 price tag. The buffet also includes a few soft drinks like Coke, lemonade, and iced tea. They had a lot of different curries, both chicken and vegetarian, to choose from and had vegetable samosas for an appetizer and gulab jamun as dessert. It was tasty but very mild for Indian food. It wasn't very busy but the food still tasted fresh. They had the servers monitoring the buffet to make sure everything stayed clean. I would definitely come here again to try more of their food! So pleased! But not at first: the menu was a bit overwhelming - so many choices and after the first two pages, no description of what you were ordering. The waitress was not much help as English may have been difficult for her or she was very reserved. Found out that if I ordered the lamb kebob it was just that lamb and nothing else..for $25?! Then she said A bowl of rice would be put on the table for all five of us. In frustration my partner announced that he was going for the buffet! (He loves very spicy food: I do not.) Quickly I asked if the buffet was spicy. Her reply, "Oh, no, very mild." That decided it for all of us as we headed for the front. And we were so rewarded with all the many delectable offerings there! Try the Kerala Shrimp Curry with coconut milk (everyone's favorite) and Coconut Beans. Dal Makhani made with black lentils would be a favorite for vegetarians. All for $20 at lunch. And they had dressings for salads and sauces for the food that could be added for more spice. It was so different and delicious. The inside of the building is so specious and given time of day (1:30), we could easily converse without the need to raise our voices. Thank You, Darber Kitchen. You were a hit for three members of my family from Ohio that were unfamiliar to Indian and Nepalese food. And we Californians delighted in it, too! read more

Tried out Darbar Kitchen in Santa Rosa for the first time last night. Partner got the Chicken Tikka Masala (IMHO a must-try whenever trying out a new Indian spot) and myself the Nepalese-style egg chowmein. The veggies in my chow mein were extremely fresh, perfectly crisp, and flavorful. The noodles were a great texture, size, and perfectly flavored. Partner enjoyed the tikka masala, if a touch spicy for MY taste (and he ordered it one spice level up from no heat/spice, the heat/spice didn't bother him at all). Definitely a heat-lover's treat. He said he would prefer the masala sauce to be a touch creamier, if he had one critique. The garlic cheese naan was fresh out of the oven, fluffy (but not overly bready) and DELICIOUS. The veggie pakora was perfectly breaded with a great flavor, and nicely crunchy (and not too greasy, which I find can be the case with pakora sometimes). Definitely worth a try. Last night we went to Darbar with our friends who love Indian food and boy were we glad we did! Every dish we ordered did not disappoint and we ordered a lot. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the wait staff friendly and right there when we needed something. The owner came over to the table to say hello. His name is Tek, so personable and great to talk to.
