Blink and you'll miss this unassuming place -- and boy will that be a mistake! We walked in and I thought, "Okay" -- nothing fancy, although fancy doesn't necessarily mean great food. Got that right! Cause the food here was EXCELLENT. Shared garlic naan -- yes, some are better than others, and this place's was really good. Asked for recommendations from the person working at the front and got the chicken korma at her suggestion; highly recommend! We also had dal and sag paneer, as well as something with eggplant that I don't recall, but that I also enjoyed. All dishes come with a small side of rice. But if you don't do heat, I'd suggest mild -- or, as some restaurants sometimes do, even "no spice." We ordered our food medium spicy -- if you're a spice person, that should be enough, friend. It definitely made me pay attention, but the heat didn't linger on after the meal. The flavor, however, did. Definitely look forward to returning! read more

My wife and I wanted a quick bite before checking out a movie at the Stadium Airport. Located in the same area is Masala Express. We love Indian food and were inspired by the reviews from fellow Yelpers. We order at the counter and they deliver to our table. 5 Star Food; 3 Star Ambiance/ Service If you are a fan of Chili Fries then you are going to love Masala Express' Butter Chicken Fries. The fries had perfect texture & flavor, the curry was finger licking good, the plentiful chicken had great texture & the mint sauce & chopped cilantro elevated it to legend status. They give you a choice of mild, medium or spicy... I like spicy but by the end of the bowl I was sweating a little... might go medium next time. Just be warned the mood is a little depressed, tables & floors could be a bit more cleaned. This place didn't give receipt. When asking, she sent me the receipt in text message after ordering. Clearly the receipt showed $43.86 total including taxes. But, $54.87 was charged on my credit card, while I only input $5 tip at the counter. Perhaps she could tell we were just visitors who stayed at the hotel nearby. We were not impressed with the taste of the food. The frozen entree from Trader Joe is tasting better than this. And there isn't much service since we have to order at the counter and pay first before they serverd. Charging extra $5 without my consent is a stealing behavior and it is not how business should be done. I would not recommend this place with this type of cheating conduct. read more

We were in the neighborhood and wanted to try a new restaurant. Yelp led us to this relatively new place right next to the Airport Stadium cinemas in Windsor. You can see their burgundy umbrellas outside. I haven't dined at too many Indian restaurants so I asked the employee at the counter what she recommended. She named a few popular dishes but I was in the mood for curry so I asked about the chicken curry. Without hesitation, she recommended the chicken coconut curry. She said it's a favorite if I like chicken curry. We also ordered the Masala Express Thali and she said customers like their garlic naan too so we added that to our order. Orders are placed at the counter and if you need something, just ask at the counter. My chicken coconut curry was incredible. It was creamy and perfectly spiced, I had asked for mild/medium spiciness. The white rice was flaky and went well with the curry. The garlic naan was a generous portion and oh my, amazing! My husband's sampler came in three little metal bowls (2 veggie and one chicken tikka masala). His order came with white rice and plain naan. They serve vegetarian meals and a nice assortment of Tandoori bread. The butter chicken fries caught my husband's attention so we will give that a try next time. Well, here we are again! Brought our daughter with us the second time. My husband and I ordered the coconut chicken curry and garlic naan and daughter ordered the saag paneer. We also ordered the butter chicken fries this time. These fries are a heartier side dish. Our daughter enjoyed her saag paneer. She orders it whenever she tries a new Indian restaurant. The interior is spacious and tables are spaced well apart. There is a TV showing how some of their dishes are prepared. They have a large outside patio with several umbrellas covering the entire dining area. If you want a quick bite in an informal setting, give them a try! The one recommendation I have is I wish they could wipe the tables after the customers leave. The dirty dishes are picked up but tables were not wiped down both times we were there. read more

Came here for a quick lunch. Wasn't expecting such good Indian food here in Santa Rosa but absolutely loved my roti and chicken kurma that I got here. The lassis and desserts also looked super yummy. Oh my god how fortunate I am to live across from this place. When I don't wanna cook after work this is a MUST I get the regular butter chicken garlic naan and level 2 chicken biryani. So creamy and cozy. If you haven't tried Indian food you really need to give this spot a chance. I have yet to sit in person but it looks roomy inside. Holy smokes! This was the best Chicken Tikka Masala I have ever had. Had lunch here yesterday for the first time ever. My son had recommended it. He has tried a few different lunch items and liked all of them. Their Naan bread is perfect too. There are two smaller Naans in one basket. They are hot and tasty, just the right chewiness and lightly crispy. We also tried a vegetarian dish with potatoes and cauliflower with yellow curry but I can't remember what it was called. Very tasty as well. Only thing I didn't like about that was that the veggies tasted as if they had been fried a bit. I try to avoid fried foods for health reasons. But the taste was great. I don't know why I am surprised that this place is good. Something about the name, and the fact that it's on the edges of the industrial part of Santa Rosa, in an unassuming strip mall down the street from the airport that didn't inspire confidence that it's good Indian food, despite the reviews. But having moved into the neighborhood, I had to give it a go. We've been here two times now, and I can't believe it, but.... it's good! We've had the Saag Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Vindaloo, and Malai Kofta, and it has ALL been good. It tastes exactly how you want it to taste. Nothing too much more or less, but that's still quite good... considering I have been to other Indian places that is just okay or worse. What is really yummy here and is a must get is the Garlic cheese naan, which is garlic naan. Sounds kinda weird, but seriously, it's good! Especially if you like really garlic-y things. SOO good. I also love that everything here super fairly priced. With food and restaurants so expensive nowadays, it's refreshing to get good food at a decent price. And also rice is included with your dish, which I appreciate as an Asian person. :P (How you gonna eat curry without rice?!) If you're wondering about the 'express' part - it's kinda fast food, but not really. Everything seems made-to-order, but you order at the cashier and they give you a tag for your table and they bring it out to you. They also have more chaat and fusion-y items on the menu that I'd love to try. I overheard that there is a burrito you can get that's not on the menu, but you can order it anytime. Definitely want to try that! The chicken masala sandwich also sounds intriguing. They also have masala fries that I'm sure will be tried one day when I'm feeling extra naughty. ;) So if you ever find yourself in this part of town and hankering Indian food... give this place a go. I don't know if it's the best in the world, but me and my hubs still makes plenty of "Mmmmmm! Yum! Soooo good!" comments while eating it. And considering it's casual and inexpensive, we will definitely be coming back here many times on lazy, don't-want-to-cook or travel-too-far days for some delicious Indian food. read more

My first time here. I did take out. Got Samosas, Kheem Matter ( minced lamb) and chicken Tikka Masala with rice and nan. I think this is the best Indian food I've had in Sonoma Country. I ordered everything Medium spiced. I would give them 5 stars except the food was ridiculously HOT. I love spicy food, but this was way over the top for me. Because of the riata, rice and nan, I was able to eat some. I don't think I'll try the leftovers. I don't want mild but I also want to be able to enjoy the food. I seriously recommend this place. STOP SLEEPING ON THIS PLACE! Holy smokes is it incredible! Don't let the word 'express' fool you into thinking this is some sort of fast food Indian food because it is not! It is easily one of the best Indian restaurants Santa Rosa has to offer. What's even better, is it is right next to the airport theater. We use to complain that there were no good restaurants by the theater to grab dinner before a movie. Most of the spots over there close really early for some reason. Masala is bringing in the movie goers! We had the butter chicken fries, a must try, and some cheesy garlic naan. The naan left a little to be desired but the fries were incredible. We stopped in just for a quick snack before a movie but now we're ready to go back for a full dinner because wow. The space is cute and a typical restaurant style seating. Nothing fancy or over the top. The service was incredible and and everyone we encountered was super friendly. A customer at my store recommended this place for amazing Indian food. I was a bit skeptical because it's sounded like fast food. It's definitely not fast Indian food so be patient or call in advance to place your order. We all got the butter chicken burger with fries. Please do not dine in here. The lady taking the order was serving food while handling computer and didn't even wash her hands. The portion of the rice is so small when I ordered chicken tika masala and she told me they charge for extra rice. It was disappointing because portion of the rice should be equivalent to the portion of the masala. I order medium spice and they made it very spicy. The lady was very rude and doesn't understand how business works. She should have offered to give me free rice instead she charged me $3 for rice. Not worth it and honestly the place wasn't that busy. I wouldn't recommend this place. Terrible service as well, she would just sit their on her laptop instead of asking how the food was. Don't like writing negative reviews but couldn't help as my we got really sick after eating here. We were excited to try this place during our road-trip to Sonoma and bodega bay but were really disappointed with the taste and quality of food. The Biryani was a total mess, with rice literally cooked in egg slurry and the chicken in it tasted and smelled really bad. The chicken tandoori and tikka masala was average. The guy on the counter was good and receptive to the feedback and refunded the amount for the Biryani, so the two stars are for the service. Indian food is not just spices thrown together, some dishes like Biryani actually involves step by step process and lots of efforts. Also, it's ok to charge few dollars more but please don't compromise on the quality, especially when it comes to meat. read more

Absolute horrible experience!!! We had called the restaurant ahead of time for a party of 16. We told them that we would be there in 20 minutes, but, with traffic, it took 30 minutes. As soon as we entered, the lady at the counter was upset and let us know in no uncertain terms that we were late. Then, she brought out lukewarm, stale chai. When we asked her to warm it up, she got angry at us. We asked for ketchup with pakora, and her response (in a loud tone) was 'I do not have it'. Lastly, every time she brought out food, she left the food plates on one end of the table and had us pass the plates out. She did not even serve it to us. Her attitude was absolutely horrible. Now this is some seriously delicious food -- flavors are rich and intense in the way great food should be. We're usually so disappointed in 'ethnic' food in Sonoma County because it all is bland and lacking in depth, but Masala Express really impressed us. I feel like we ordered half the menu and was not disappointed in a single dish, and the naan was perfection. Complex flavors, rich sauces, well portioned and very affordable -- when you're tired of the same old boring restaurant food, do yourself a favor and try Masala Express. Ask if they have their special Punjabi rosewater drink and you'll be in for a real treat! I'm honestly shocked at some of the one star reviews - absolutely undeserved and unfair and I suggest giving it another try to prove you wrong because this place is my new favorite and can't wait to return! read more

This place is fantastic! I was very sad to see the Vietnamese restaurant leave but I do love Indian food, so I was excited to see this option. It is called masala express, and next to the Momo café, I was worried that it would be a fast food joint with low quality food, but I was pleased to find that it was as good as any of the other Indian food in Sonoma county. Up until now my favorite has been Himalaya and Windsor, and their sister restaurant in Sebastopol. A foodie told me to check this place out and I was reminded that I hadn't yet visited. When you walk in the door, it is still very reminiscent of the old Vietnamese place, no frills or decor yet but a lovely mural painted on the wall. the food, however, was fantastic! We ordered our dishes, medium, usually I have to order them mild because of my husband and sister, but I was with a friend who could handle the heat so we went for it! The gal at the front where you order, made sure to let everyone know that "they don't play around when it comes to spice ". We Only ordered it medium, not spicy, thankfully, because I don't know if we could've handled it any spicier. It was the perfect amount of heat. Comfortable, but no one was sweating, and we could all still taste our food. There's nothing worse than accidentally getting food so spicy you can't taste the rest of your meal. the family who owns this restaurant is very friendly, they were all delightful, and we can't wait to return and try more dishes. We had an appetizer sampler, the chicken, tikka masala, saag, paneer, and garlic cheese naan. I heard the butter cheese french fries are delicious, but I felt silly. Ordering them, maybe next time. This place is consistently good. We like the Chicken Tikka, butter chicken and the lamb mushroom masala. The Naan needs a shot in the air fryer if you do takeout. Generous portions and good quality with above average consistency. There are lots of snacky menu options at the $4-$10 price range, so you can order a lot of food with many options; easy to try different dishes.
