Had food here many times through a series of work trips. Always hit the spot for some good and comforting Indian food that tastes like home. During some time in downtown SR we decided to stop in here on a whim for a lunch on a weekend. We parked in the mostly open lot, and because it was a sunday, we didn't have to pay for parking which was an added bonus. Other than the people working there, and some folx coming in for to-go orders, we were the only dine-in customers the entire time we were there. Arjun helped us to a table and got us some menus. It was chilly the day we visited here, so we both ordered a Nepalese Chai ($3 each) while we looked over the menu. Although they had lot of dishes that were unique, I decided to go with my usual and try the Vegetarian Tikka Masala ($14.99) with Brown Rice ($1), and hubby followed suit with Chicken Tikka Tandori ($15.99) both medium spice, and a side of Cheese Naan ($3.99). While we waited, I visited the bathroom and it was terrible. I was really dismayed with the bathroom situation, and hoped it had no reflection on the quality or experience of the food. Once back to the table, an unfortunate issue started to arise with someone picking up a to-go order, and clashing with the staff here. Apparently, the person picking up the food came in a little early, and the person behind the counter was multitasking and gave them the -shoo- hand signal to come back later. The person was wildly offended by this and went totally ballistic, yelling, pacing, and eventually leaving loudly without paying or taking the food. This understandably caused a commotion in the kitchen and the entire staff struggled to understand how this all happened. Once our food came out, it was really not good. Both of our meals were so spicy, we couldn't eat them, and just being in the vicinity of the dishes was making our eyes water. We told our server they were too hot, and he just offered to bring us to-go boxes. Ultimately, I think our issue and the issue of the person who had the interaction above were both about miscommunication and a language barrier. The only things we were able to eat were the cheese naan and the rice accompaniment which were both fine, but those just couldn't save this dining experience. I really had high hopes for this restaurant, but between the massive miscommunication issues, the overwhelming spice, the deplorable state of the bathroom and the high cost for the dishes for food we really couldn't even consume, this is not high on our list for places to try again. read more

We came here and the place was basically empty inside . We started we the samosa chaat and both me and my husband loved it . It was very flavorful . We also ordered the tandoori chicken (medium spice) which came out sizzling hot and flavorful as well . I ordered the butter chicken (medium spice) and it was packed with so much flavor and just the right amount of heat. The garlic bread was so hot and thin and crispy like I like. Usually it's doughy but not this place. We ended up not eating a lot cause we got full with the samosa chaat and the poor server that we didn't like the food and gave us 10% off. I felt so bad I told her we don't live here and can't take the food with us other wise I would have because it was so delicious . If you are around here or just stopping by come and support this place because they are very sweet and have excellent service . read more

Great, great, great. Discovered three weeks ago and have been back twice. Fantastic food and service.

I was going to give them 4 stars but their service leaves a lot to be desired for. I ordered takeout from their website. First, taking 50 mins for a takeout order was surprising. I've lived in many cities and usually, it doesn't take more than 30 mins to get Desi food. Any way, it was also raining quite a bit, so I actually got there later than the 50 mins. I got in and you could see that there was no system. Two people were hovering around the counter. One server was working the tables and hovering around the counter. There was nobody as such to ask my order for. Then, when I told them what I'd ordered, they couldn't find it. I'm pretty sure that they did not realize you can also order through their website, so my order wasn't ready. The main person tried to cover it up by saying they're still working on it. But I could hear him call out the order when I told him what it was. Then, my bill had come to a total of $30. When he ran it at the counter, it was $32. Two bucks is not much in the grand scheme of money, but why would your website show one price and your teller another? And then, he asked me, where did you order this from (while looking at the order email from their website on my phone)? He looked very confused when I said it was from their website. Finally, I got everything sorted out and left but this whole service thing left a negative view in my mind. The food itself was very good! I got a spicy kadhai mushroom which was spicy and delicious. The chilli chicken is the closest I've eaten to real indo-chinese food from home. So once I got over the chaos of the pickup, I did enjoy the food. But you guys need to buckle up with the service! read more

This review is specific to my experience last night, but I doubt I'll return. I placed my to-go order through the website well over an hour before the scheduled pick up time. When my wife went to pick up the food, she had to wait ANOTHER FULL HOUR after the scheduled time for the food to be ready. What's worse, the restaurant never told her how long the wait would be. Had she known, she would have picked up food elsewhere, which might have salvaged the evening (as it was, kids had to be fed and sent to bed before she got home). When she finally got home, we discovered the restaurant had forgotten some items, and the items we did receive (our usual favorites) were bland and just generally poor quality. I understand that a place can have an off night, but the restaurant did absolutely nothing to compensate for the extreme delay that ruined our family dinner. No discount. No free appetizers. Nothing but exceptionally poor service, followed by sub-par food. This used to be my favorite spot, but I doubt I'll ever return. read more

Vegetarian review - Ambiance is nice, and has two different seating arrangements - booth or table. Service is nice and they are very accommodating when we ordered something that wasn't on the menu (Egg Biriyani) but could be found on Yelp. So far we've been here twice and ordered Veg. assorted appetizers (mostly mild), Mixed Veg Korma (flavorful), Laccha paratha (filling) and vegetable fried rice (simple and very mild and needs a side). I listed them in the order of taste preference. Second time we repeated most items but added Malai Kofta which was awesome, similar to korma but very rich and this time we tried medium spicy which was so good! They seem to have retained the authenticity with a choice in spice levels which is awesome with kids. Love the place! read more

I ordered takeout here for the first time last night and was extremely impressed with the food. The online order process was seamless, my order was ready for pickup in 25 minutes and the staff was very friendly. I ordered Lamb Vindaloo, Chicken Korma and the Tandoori Appetizer. I particularly dislike it when curries are excessively oily and these dishes were anything but. Both the Vindaloo and Korma had silky smooth gravies, the flavors were fantastic and the portion sizes were very solid. Also, the Tandoori appetizer was fantastic. The marinades that they use are amazing and the meats in all three dishes were prepared to perfection This is a little gem of a neighborhood restaurant and I can't recommend it enough! read more

Pretty good Nepalese food! Got the chicken and veggie momos. The chutney it came with was not too spicy and everything was hot and flavorful. The garlic naan was on the crispier side and went well with the malai kofta. The tandoori chicken was very juicy and flavorful as well. The only thing I didn't like was the paratha, it was dry and not flaky/crispy. Service was not that fast but everything was freshly made so it was worth a bit of a wait. Don't come here if you're in a hurry. I waited over 35 minutes for my to go order to be ready. They seemed to prioritize DoorDash and delivery orders as those came out the fastest and everyone else just waited. I decided to try the Malai Kofta, which said it was vegetable dumplings cooked in a creamy tomato and onion sauce with Indian Spices. It also said it came with Basmati rice, but when I ordered I had to pay extra to have it come with rice. I imagined vegetable dumplings would be similar to the mo mos. Chinese style dumplings in an Indian curry? That sounded delicious. Unfortunately, the vegetable dumplings were just balls of fried dough. Maybe there was some potato or cauliflower ground up in there but certainly nothing flavorful. The sauce itself was quite bland. The first few bites were decent (and I was hungry after the wait) but it didn't have enough flavor to carry the otherwise bland "dumplings." You could customize your spice level so maybe when I ordered mild spice they thought I wanted mild flavor too. The garlic naan was decent and definitely big enough to share. Unfortunately, the rest of the food was subpar and did not justify the wait or the prices. I'd look elsewhere. read more

Not sure how it took so long but so glad I discovered this place! It's situated in downtown Santa Rosa area, with some outdoor seating (during covid times). Their menu clearly labels vegetarian/vegan items and there are many! And we liked everything we ordered! The samosas were good, one order equals two big ones! And the Chili Veg Mo:Mo was something different for us to order but we really liked them, spicy dumplings with a little crunch. First of all, this restaurant is a shared restaurant kitchen with the more well-known Kafal of Santa Rosa. It is only available currently on GrubHub or Seamless as a delivery option only. There is no way to order and pick this up, it has to be delivered. And for now, GrubHub & Seamless are the only ones that have this restaurant. And, Kafal has changed owners not that long ago, so I will also try them in the future, soon. Ordered: Paneer Pakoras, Shahi Paneer, Brown Rice & a Garlic Naan Paneer Pakoras - delicious & there's a red sauce & green sauce that comes with it. Highly recommended. These are long, like the size of a thick finger. You'll love it. Shahi Paneer - Paneer in a creamy light orange/yellow sauce with cashews. Delicious. Highly recommended Garlic Naan - extremely impressive & great. Might be now my #2 under Yeti Cuisine's great bread, but it's so close to how great the Yeti naan is, it's amazing! The samosas are huge - and delicious!! The filling is flavorful and moist while the outside is very crispy and it goes great with the sauces they provide. I don't understand the bad reviews about the spice, as you are able to choose the spice levels of the dish and it wouldn't be Indian food without a kick to it. read more

We've eaten food from most of the Indian restaurants in Santa Rosa and thought that Kafal was the best. Then we ordered food from them the other night and are having second thoughts. The dishes we ordered, a korma and a vegetable dish, were in the same yellow sauce and tasted pretty much alike. Was the regular cook at Kafal not there the other night or has the restaurant decided to use the same sauce base for many dishes? We've found this in several other Indian restaurants in Santa Rosa and have not experienced this in other cities (cities not in the North Bay). Very disappointing. read more
