This is actually two different lights at Darbys...one of our favorite places to grab a quick meal. We came on a Tuesday night for Taco Tuesday. Hubby loved the tacos... he got the chicken tacos. You get 3 for $9. I got the buffalo chicken salad which I love. I get it every time I'm wanting a salad. Wednesday night is burger night for $10-11, not sure exactly. The burger is frozen, we are pretty sure, but they still cook it right with nice crispy fries. We always enjoy it. We always walk away too full for dessert but we did get ciders both nights. I love going in and having lunch here. It's not real busy if you go after 1 o'clock. I have not had anything bad to eat there. And the waitress is always very wonderful. I wish I could remember her name. Whenever I am asked to meet for a meeting, I always try to Meet at Darby's. I love the fact that you can change things on the menu. They are so accommodating. Went to this bar last night with friends to have a drink and waited online for an hour outside. When we got to the door the bouncer decided he didn't like us and told us it's college night only. He said we needed a college ID to get in. Meanwhile they let in all the college kids half of them are under age. I didn't realize this was just a bar for college and under age kids not locals. I would Not recommend going to this place on a Friday night you can't even get in if your not part of Marist college. read more

Probably the best pizza I've had in a long time. They state on the menu that it is cooked well done, this does not mean burnt. You can still fold it, it just isn't going to flop around. We had the pepperoni and mushroom, which came out wrong the first time but they apologized and made a new one quickly. Nice ambiance, dimly lit booths with light overhead. Such a shame we missed happy hour, it ends at 7 pm and offers drinks and food specials. However, this place was packed on a Friday night. We ordered a pie of pizza that had everything in there. We didn't know what to expect but was amazed at the size of it when it came out. It's like everything is supersized and loaded. The pizza was extra cheesy and I love the view of when you pull pizza and the cheese just strings along with it. What a beautiful sight. Great service, waitresses are always very nice everyone that I have come during the afternoon and early evening on weekdays. It's never very busy during those times. I did come here at night on a weekday as well and it was not very busy either. The food was good in my three or four experiences. Tried the potato soup, like that. Always get it. Tried the Irish egg rolls, really like them and how different they are. Love the beef stew. The wings traditional style were good and cooked crispy, sauces tasted great and amount of sauce was fair but could be more. The boneless wings were a little cold, not pipping hot like the traditional wings. The beers they have are pretty good, waitress the first time let me try a sample of two on tap and poured generously, before I decided which one I wanted a full glass of. Very laid back. Wish they would've had a lot more traditional IRISH food on the menu like you'll find elsewhere like shepherds pie and corned beef and cabbage, but it's a good little place when you are hungry and don't want screaming children around everywhere like most chain restaurants. read more

Bartender girl needed help and training!Bouncer was great, trivia guys were great, customers were cool, and waitress was nice. I stood at the bar a solid 6 minutes before I was even greeted. She was doing busy work like clearing napkins , wiping the bar. ..couldn't be bothered. It wasn't very busy either. My friend likes blue kinky and sprite "what's that? Tell me where you see that because I don't have it" EXCUSE ME?! I asked about angry Orchard or anything like that "no, just cider" i was like okay whatever sure . I ordered myself a Manhattan that she needed help from someone else to find the ingredients for. It was weak with only one cherry with too much ice. Took forever to make it and get a beer out of a cooler. She vanished for another solid five minutes then after I saw her pop back out I waved her down to pay her. She thought we were doing a tab even though I was standing there with a stack of $20s out the whole time. For a domestic meh beer, a glass of cider, and "Manhattan" flavored ice it was $25. I had to tell her more cherries. She was nice about that because I was tipping her a lot. I kept an eye on her for a while just watching her tend. Locals and regulars are top priority and she isn't used to much more than slinging beers and shots. Her drinks are over iced, under poured, and over flowed. You also don't mix by jockeying a drink between two glass glasses. Trivia was a blast and the food in and out looked amazing. I'm a drinker and a heavy tipper. However, that's onlyk when I'm treated right by the bartender. They missed out on me dropping a solid $200 tonight with dinner and drinks. read more

My daughter is a 21 year old student. She was denied entry to the bar on a Friday night even though she had two valid forms of ID, one being a California driver's license. The bouncer said he reported her to the campus police for having a fake license AND he bent her driver's license, presumably to prove she had a fake ID, which she now needs to replace. There were numerous other kids allowed to enter with fake licenses but not only was a she denied entry, but she was accused and spoken to very rudely. Eventually she was let in but the damage had been done. After reporting the unnecessary and uncalled for damage to her ID to the sheriff's department, she shared her experience with the manager....and they did the right thing. They said they will reimburse her for a new license. Train your bouncers to show more respect. read more

In our quest for a new place to eat we stopped at Darby O'Gills. After ordering too much food we decided to bring home our wings. An order of 20 out of which we ate three, the waitress proceeded to tell us she couldn't give boxes for wings on wing night. So I paid an extra $7 for a box. The food we did eat, the fries were so loaded with grease they were disgusting. The pot stickers were frozen and fried, nasty. My wings included a wing tip. It took 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge our presence and another ten for the waitress to come take our order. Then when we were done I placed all the dirty dishes on the end of the table, the empty cups, the silverware... and waited another 15 minutes for a check. Then 10 minutes for her to come get the card. Needless to say I never got a refill on my soda and the waitress didn't get a tip. read more

Darby's is a great place for a beer and a football game but leaves little to be desired menu wise. Potato soup was delivered lukewarm and had very little seasoning/flavor. As for the fish and chips, the chips were okay but two of the four pieces of fish were still raw in the middle and the two that were cooked tasted like they started the day with freezer burn. To the waitresses credit she offered to replace them or to remove them from the bill so I chose the latter option. My wife had the buffalo chicken wrap and said it was okay. I had a side Caesar salad and it was also okay. On another visit we had a Carnivore pizza and other than being served a little cold, it wasn't too bad. The wait staff has been good and done a fairly decent job considering it gets pretty hectic on a Sunday during football season. read more

I love wings. Probably one of my favorite foods to get. So I am always looking for new wing places to visit. For as long as I have lived in the Poughkeepsie area, I have never been to Darby's. So it was time to give them a try. The wings here were pretty good, but they could of used a little more sauce. I like my wings to be saucy. I got my wings to go, and by time I got home, it seemed like there was barely any sauce on them. I also like my wings REALLY REALLY spicy. Like crazy spicy lol.. So when I got the inferno wings I was expecting something pretty hot. I mean its the hottest level of wings you have, and it's called inferno lol. Well there was nothing inferno about these wings. Were they hot? Ehhh kinda. To compare Buffalo Wild Wings "blazing" sauce is like 10 times hotter than these "inferno wings". They definitely could've passed as normal hot wings. Nothing crazy.. I still enjoyed them, and I will be back to get them again. Next time I will sit there and eat them though, so the wings don't have to travel 10-15 minutes to my house, and they are no longer fresh..... I also got the fries. The fries were really good.. I do drive up & down the east coast for business - stopped here after driving 12 hours ready to enjoy a casual atmosphere, bar food & a beer. I was greeted by a bouncer that seemed to be the type that enjoys finding or creating a problem to deal with. I also found it weird that a bouncer ID'd me at the door of a pub. Maybe it is like that in all of NY but I thought pubs were a - walk in & talk to the bartender style place. I was wearing a hoody & hat. As soon as I sat down I ordered a drink & called my girlfriend to talk about our days when the bouncer came from behind me & poked my shoulder - telling me I needed to take the hood off. Maybe I'm some type of self entitled southerner being from Florida but I think I should be able to decide what I do or don't have on my head. A dress code at a pub? Do they feel someone wearing a hat or hood is a safety threat. Com'on people. I didn't take off my hood or hat, I'm not 13 years old. I'm a grown man. I walked out without saying anything & found a place where they let grown men do what they want. You people suck take the stick out of your anus. read more

I go to local bars somewhat often as a Marist student. Darby's is easily the worst of them. Bouncers are a**holes. Got denied on Halloween and pushed aside by a bouncer (I'm 22). I called the cops because they had no reason to shove me when all I did was ask "what happened" when I got denied. After the police talked to them, they reversed their mistake and let me in. But, that combined with the fact that the inside of the bar is a sad excuse of a bar, I'll be giving my service to Mahoney's when I go out. read more

It's hard to know what category to list Darby O'Gills under, because it's an Irish pub, so is it a bar or a restaurant? I think that depends on whether you're a student in Hyde Park, NY, or whether you're an outsider. I found myself in Hyde Park over the weekend. Around 11PM, the food options were scarce so my guide (a student in Hyde Park) suggested Darby's. The atmosphere was noisy, and it was full of students from the area schools. There was no waitstaff at that time of the night, and as the bar was full, the bartenders were running crazy to take orders. Every round of drinks took between 5-10 minutes to get the bartender's attention. We had to be aggressive about ordering food. However, when we got the food, it was tasty. The Irish Nachos are awesome - waffle fries with cheese, bacon, bacon, scallops, and more cheese. The waffle fries alone were tasty and well-seasoned, and the fixin's just made it even better. Two of us got wraps, which had good flavor - what more can you say about a wrap? The regular fries were also tasty. Extra points for a place having good food this late at night. The barstaff seems friendly enough and the food is good. However, it's jammed packed full of local students on the weekends and service is non-existent as a result. So if you're a local student and you want to meet and greet, head here. If you just happen to be in town for the weekend, head into Poughkeepsie for a chain restaurant and you might be better off. read more

Shamrocks and Guiness signs do not an Irish pub make. This place wants to be an Irish pub, but it's not. I was there today for lunch and got the burger which was pretty tasty. Cooked well, though the bun was a little big, so the bread sort of overpowered the meat. There was a bartender doing service for both the tables and the bar. Service was slow. There was a period of about 10-15 minutes where she was gone entirely. People came in, looked around, and sat down, My friend thought maybe she was using the toilet and it was that kind of emergency. Darby's is 90% of the time an awesome place for food/booze. I would not recommend going on Friday or Saturday evenings after 9pm, as the college scene crowds in. The Friday half price appetizer happy hour is an amazing deal and 2 appetizers cost less than 1 entree and equate more food. I have had very few negative experiences here short of an occasional airhead waitress. They claim to be getting a new menu soon but it has been in the works for some time. If you are a women, this place is not safe. The bouncers are incredibly rude and touch the customers very inappropriately not caring for their decency. The music sucks, and it is so packed on weekends that it takes you 20 min to lap the bar. The drinks are also very expensive and if you ever ask for water the bartenders glare and you and refuse. Last time I was there, a girl was whipped off her chair by a bouncer, who grasped her by the chest, exposing her breasts in the process and dragged her out of the bar. This kind of treatment is not a one case scenario so if you respect women. Pick another place to go to for your dinner or night out. read more

I wish I could give 5 stars from my visit on Wednesday night, but unfortunately going back Thursday night made me want to give this place a 0. Wednesday we walked into an almost empty bar, the bar tender, a younger handsome guy. He was just awesome, he was friendly, attentive, he'd joke with us and join into the conversation every now and then. He even created a drink that isn't very common, I've been to a lot of places as I'm in the industry and he honestly was the definition of a great bartender. Now unfortunately Thursday wasn't the same. It was another guy and girl. We walked in and sat at a table, the waitress/ bartender wasn't very interested in us, we ordered food that was pretty decent, the veggie wrap was big and the onion things were good. We sat there finished for some time and unfortunately I did drop a glass, but the way they handled it made me never want to step foot in there again. I dropped i and clearly everyone heard as they all turned and looked at me, and then nobody came over. I waited and finally some guys were getting up and trying to get through so I started cleaning it up and here comes the waitress, as she yells at me for cleaning it up, maybe if you had moved a little quicker then I wouldn't feel like I needed to. I know you don't want people cleaning it up I get that you're liable if I get cut but I also know it's embarrassing to just let it sit there while everyone is starring and trying to get through. I just hope you teach your bartenders customer service. I don't care that it's a college town and mainly a college bar, if you want money from tips then be nicer. read more

Bartender was rude, complained to us (the customers) that he was ''already losing money''. He then overcharged us by about 25%. When it was brought to his attention, he became more rude instead of apologizing. After inquiring about him overcharging, he then gave me incorrect change. I overheard him call me a SCUMBAG to another bartender for inquiring about him overcharging. After this, I certainly wasn't going to be buying any drinks from this bartender - Maybe thats why he was losing money? I didnt get his name, as he probably would have lied to me anyway. I inquired his name from the bouncer, who politely refused to tell me. He asked why I wanted to know, I told him that I felt he was rude, to which he replied ''he gets that a lot''. The bartender (manager / owner? - lord I hope not) was tall, probably 6'2, probably 280-300 pounds, white guy, around 30 years old. He was working on the main entrance side of the bar. Oh god. I don't think I've ever had a drink that tasted so bad in my life. I came here with a girlfriend for a drink, and made the mistake of ordering a fishbowl. It sounded good with mango and rum, but it was just a nasty mixture of 99cents arizona, and dollar store rum which was further diluted with water and ice. With tip this godforsaken bowl cost me $16. We go here from time to time as options can be slim late at night. We had a great stretch here, when we had a friendly and competent young gentleman bartender (I think he was also a bouncer on the weekends). Since the service was always so poor with other bar staff, we tried to come in when he was working. I do not believe he is there any longer, sadly for us. Recent trips to Darby's have been frustrating, usually there are young girls working behind the bar and they seem to spend most of their time talking to each other or one or two of the customers. I would normally have no problem with it, as long as they keep an eye on the drinks. They do not. We wait and wait, and often end up leaving earlier than we would have liked just because it's annoying. I get that you bar owners have to hire young, attractive women...but good service is more important to anyone who wants to get their drink on within a reasonable amount of time. C'mon folks--get yourself a real bartender! The food is pretty decent for bar grub. Waffle fries, wings, nachos, burgers, etc. The prices are ok and they serve food late, though again...the service especially late at night is really dismal. They have some kind of a deal going on every night at the bar--two for one drinks, beer specials, etc. They have a trivia night which is fun to listen to...big TV's etc... The place is comfortable though not clean. It smells of beer rot. The pictures on the walls are very dusty, the bar is usually sticky, and glass windows/door need windexing. For some people this is no big deal. For me I always think "if no one cares enough to keep it clean where the customers can see it, then what must the kitchen look like?" We have become used to so many places like this where it appears no one is at the helm. Cleanliness should be a top priority. I will also echo was a couple of the other reviewers have already said--it's not really an Irish bar. It's just a strip mall college bar cloaked in the guise of an Irish bar, and it's so very different from the real thing. Great appetizers (wings, mozzarella sticks), Irish Nachos are one of the best things I've ever eaten, and the drink specials...you must have the Electric Lemonade fishbowl with a few friends.
