Have a 2011 Toyota Prius and looking for a new service facility since our regular maintenance team recently retired and closed their shops. Found the service team was very professional, courteous and informative. The mechanic team identified potential serious issues and made corrections while serving our immediate concerns. The overall cost of repairs were slightly above budget but learned comparing final bill came within the lower cost percentage compared with other certified facilities within 50 miles radius of our home residence. Maintenance light came on, my husband got a good deal here on a package of oil changes for a set price, so I decided to come here instead of Malloy in Winchester. My mistake. I called ahead and the assistant manager James Collins ( Jim ) in service had me set up to come in and sign up for the 5 oil changes/tire rotations. I come in and he says I still have one oil change available (through my initial contract). I was confused since I already took my truck to Malloy 3 times so I called Malloy- they told me they do an oil change every other visit (as per mileage requirements) and tire rotations at each visit. I asked them when my next oil change is due, and if that is seen in the maintenance records- she said I wouldn't be due for the oil change for another 4-5k miles. I'm a bit pissed now because this guy said it's time for an oil change based on the records. I figure, to hell with it- I'll just have to deal with it since it's already taken into the back. The assistant manager proceeds to sell me on this 5 oil change/services- and I look at the paperwork, it only lasts for 2 years. I tell him it really makes no sense to pay $380 for a service contract that only lasts 2 years, since I am getting an oil change right now- that's like wasting 5-6months. He says I won't get roadside assistance and some other bullshit. I made it clear I get all that with my insurance anyways, it just makes no sense to get it. He continues on how it is a good deal, which I agree it is- but I'm not going to fuckin pay for this shit when I just got a fresh oil change, it's wasting a lot of money and 6months out of the 2 year contract- he got annoyed and said "I'll just cancel the application then?" I said yeah, I will buy it when I need an oil change. 2 hours after my appointment, they are finished... James says "sorry it took so long, it's an older vehicle, so the inspection takes a bit more time" it's a 2020 Tacoma... it's 4 years old. Wow I get in my truck- the seat is all the way forward and the mirror is tilted way down. Whatever- I move my shit back in place. When I get out, my foot hits some plastic piece from the seat bracket. I check it- there is a plastic glide on the bracket that is now broken... well it's Friday evening and I'm not trying to deal with them anymore- so I call first thing Monday morning- they say I can come in for them to check it out. I get in at 1pm. The same assistant manager says it's not covered under warranty- so the part is $1,2xx and labor is X amount- total cost to me is $1,892.59. Now I'm shocked. You guys had it- you broke it- why won't you fix it. He said "the seat was broken before, or possibly when it was moved there was something behind it the knocked it off the track" I said to him how I never had this problem, I come in here- and y'all messed with my seat, and now it's broken... somehow that is my fault. He said something along the lines of it was probably broken before, but even if the technician used it and broke, it's not their fault since it should have worked properly. I seriously can't believe this place. Never really had a problem here before my last two visits. This place had a renovation but is so shady so avoid it at all costs. My mom got a coupon for an oil change and they ripped her off big time. They tried to upsell other stuff and she refused. Now she's 70 years old. Than they finally told her the battery was almost dead even though the car has like 45,000 miles on it and we bought it brand new. After she paid for the oil change, the car suddenly didn't start. Than they told her she could pay 250 dollars for a new battery. The service department has no quality or reliability. My car was damaged once and they did not take responsibility. Other time they did the alignment and it was out of spec. They gave me an appointment couple weeks down the lane and later charged me as I had driven 1000 miles since the appointment. This review is more on the side of working there. First off, when going through the hiring process they explain the hours being long, however they leave out you need to work the last day of the month (regardless if it's your day off or not) all day, 9am-9pm. Second, communication between management is none existent. The lack of actual sales floor training is appalling. I went to a 1 and 1/2 week training of how to manage the online system, beyond that I was told my first 8 cars I would be assisted and received no type of help in reality. Third, when turning in my 2 week notice, I was called into the office and told "They were accepting my resignation today". Which it was not for two weeks. And was not provided a termination letter. I was told it's company policy not to give one. This place is for fresh out of school kids and people with no family. read more

I took my car in for it's regular service. The technician asked me a personal question about how " I'm driving so much". He was very rude and gave me a lot of attitude for no reason. When I asked him when my car would be done he said after lunch. Mind you my appointment was already scheduled for 9:30am and he made a comment like " we treat this place like an emergency room so whoever waits for their vehicle in here gets their service done first. When I went to pick up my vehicle I was met again with indifferent and disrespectful staff. When I took my car I realized they had not replaced my sticker, so I called to verify if my car has even been serviced due to the encounter with the technician and she kept putting me on hold and laughed in my face. She took me off hold and read to me the service they provided to my car today and mind you it was a service from my previous visit. So they basically charged me and did not complete the service. Because if a new service was completed under my account that girl wouldn't have read the old service to me. I bought my first car from this same place and it was trash as well but I'm not going to get into that. I've been treated the same way since 2020 and never again. Dependable auto service while you wait. Have used Darcars Frederick to service my toyota's for many years now. Scheduling online is easy and service is performed in relatively quick efficient manner. In this case waited couple few hours for 120k service. Multiple advisors are ready and waiting for you to drive in or overnight drop off. Be sure and ask about eligible discounts and beware of ususal add-ons by the service writers. Overall staff appears knowledgeable, friendly and the free coffee in the waiting area, and courtesy car wash is added bonus. Then he tried to tell her the battery needs a "refresh" because it is not charging properly. he claimed it's from driving the car on too many short trips. this is ridiculous since she drives 40 miles to work each way 5 days a week. it seems to me any issues with our BRAND NEW car should be covered by warranty. Of course this is the same shop that told me i needed new brakes on my Tundra. I took the tires off when i got home and more than 50% off the brake pads were left. By far the worst service department I have ever experienced. Avoid going here to buy and get your vehicle serviced. After they over filled my engine oil and caused it to leak out of the oil pan gasket, they said it falls under warranty. But they wouldn't let me verify the oil pan got resealed, even thought they let me go back there to verify the technician confirmed the oil leaking. They even banged the door of the suv next to mine on the lift and didn't say a thing to the owner of that suv. I didn't trust that they would actually seal the oil pan, so I asked if I could watch when they resealed it. Answer was No, even though the sign says I can when accompanied by a technician. They are not honest here. I'd still by a Toyota, just not from Darcars. Disappointing that Toyota has there vehicles sold by Darcars. They discriminate and take advantage of you. My car's transmission died in a most spectacular way. My mechanic being the honest trust worthy guy he is (Dynamic Urbana) basically told me not to waste any more money on the car. That I a Toyota would suit my needs. I have been a die hard Ford fan until now. So the hunt for a reliable and somewhat roomy car started. We immediately went to Darcars. As they are local and somewhat highly rated dealer. We like to support local businesses (yes they may be a chain, but get my drift) We met Shaun Terry. A friendly guy who did not pressure us in the last. He was laid back and easy going. Tested a used Rav 4 Hybrid limited. Fell in love with the car. Not the price nor the extra gizmos that I probably didn't really need. Asked for info on the new cars.... Damn two to three months! Not good news. So with stupid bravado I said I'd look around elsewhere. Mistake I made, also one of the few mistakes of Darcars. If they had steered me towards their used selection. I would have saved a lot of time, and have not had to come back with my tail between my legs. (Not that tail!) A used car that was perfect for me was sitting in the lot. So two days later I came back. And had to have it. Shaun Terry was again a breeze to work with, he didn't put on the pressure. He answered all my questions, assured me that I wasn't going to hell for buying anything other than American. I guess if my car starts playing up I might edit this review. Purchased my car from Michael. I hate car shopping. I tried multiple dealers and sales people. He was able to get to know what I was looking for, ask me the right questions, and find a car that best suited my needs. I found the car expensive but, ALL cars are expensive at this time due to a chip shortage. He was still price competitively and actually lower than other dealers. I felt he went the extra mile through my buying process. I still call him with small questions. My finance was done with Ahmed and that was smooth as well. I read the other poor reviews with that experience. I didn't feel pushed or pressured with anything. I did but the extended warranty because I just wanted peace of mind but, there was no pressure to do so. I could have easily said no and it would have been fine. Ahmed was fairly new to the dealership, not the industry. So I'm glad I had him to work with. I have had bad experiences in the past car shopping and with the dealers. These two understood and hand held me thru the process. Michael was a new car salesman but, what we discovered is that I really wanted a used car model. I actually preferred the look and specs. I was able to get fully loaded for a new base model new priced car. As a new car salesman he understood my needs and found a used car for me because it's what fit what My family needed and could afford, during a chip shortage. I think having a good rapport as well as someone knowledgeable is important. When you go car shopping ask the manager for their sales guy that can communicate well and explain your style. After going to many dealers, it's a mistake to let them come to you. Find who Is most knowledgeable. Michael was well spoken, is a car enthusiast himself, listens very well, and seems to genuinely enjoy working with cars and people. No question felt stupid. He also showed me how everything worked during our test drives in a way that I found digest it. Some people just robotically show or tell and I left more confused than when I entered. Michael was able to sort thru my confusions, clear things up, and told me what was possible to his knowledge or not. I did not feel manipulated, upsold, bait and switched etc. like with other dealers or sales people, terms I painfully learned thru the car buying process. The negative I have to say is that it was not cleaned to my level of satisfaction. Michael offered a second cleaning. It still wasn't to my level of cleaning. I hope this was helpful. Very unpleasant experience dealing with service department. Called and asked about my warranty ( had a check engine light on and another light on as well) Well after going back and forth after couple phone calls "Sir it's gonna be 187.00 " just to tell me why the warning lights are on ...LOL went 45 minutes west to Winchester and not only got it diagnosed (which the fee of 85.00 was waived for making the trip) but they fixed the issue under my warranty which DARCARS said initially wouldn't be covered but in fact was covered. Feels like after buying my second vehicle from DARCARS which BTW will be my last , I wouldn't even make a trip to get wiper blades from them. I just had a disappointing experience here (which is sad, because I bought my first car at DARCARS) I agreed upon an out-the-door figure with one of the sales managers (Kevin) over email and phone and put down a deposit on the car. The car ends up getting stuck at the port for inspection for a month and when the car finally comes, I drive up 50 min to the dealership only to be told the agreed upon price is no longer valid and if I want the car I have to pay about $1000 more. 1) Changing the agreed upon price is shady. 2) Not telling me until I get there and after I spend 1 hour viewing the car and test driving it is also shady (maybe to get me to be more attached to the car?) I took my car in on July 8th for a number of basic repairs; getting lightbulbs changed, and an oil change among other things. I specifically told them I had recieved a repair order from the local police about my tag lights. I explained to them that the bulbs weren't out, but that there was probably a loose connection because if I tapped the bulbs they would come back on. I also asked them to check my air conditioning unit because it hadn't worked in years. They changed the lightbulbs in the tag lights. That didn't fix the problem. Guess what? It's still a loose connection. That was a $27.13 charge for nothing. They checked the air conditioning. Told me I'd need a whole new AC system and quoted me $2,000 for it. They charged me $168.58. I quote the repair bill: "line to condenser from compressor shredded." It costs $170 to tell me that? All they had to do, apparently, was look at the lines and that cost me almost $200? Sounds ridiculous to me. Ultimately, I paid 30 bucks to still have to get my car fixed per police standards and I paid 170 bucks for them to tell me they need 2k more to give me AC? Shitty business practice, probably because they are part of a dealership. Will never get my business again. read more

I asked him if that was the total price-- Ernie confirmed that was the total price (without taxes and fees)-- He gave me the printout of the vehicle and I left for the evening. The next day Ernie sent me a text with a price of $36430--which included tax, 500$ fee, $997 non-tax fee, minus 2000k for my trade in,--and an ***ADJUSTED MARKED VALUE OF $1995 ADDED TO THE TOTAL PRICE***. It's never difficult to do business with Diego. He makes doing business with him and Darcars smooth, straightforward, and in an expeditious professional manor. Erica Hintz, the finance person, is also honest and straightforward. No pressure to weird sales tactics from him either. We always add on the extra protection plans from both Darcars and Toyota. Erica is knowledgeable in both extended warranty plans. He will professionally and honestly answer any of your questions and then some. He also will do his best to find you the best finance percentage to make the car payments within your budget without any "tricks." After the sale, all of our cars go to Darcars on Rt. 40 for service. Wayne Cissel is the service manager, and Chris is the parts manager. We are never upsold or told to repair something that was not needed, including on our older cars that are out of warranty. Chris always calls if a part is on delay or backorder. Wayne still gets our vehicles in and out within hours. Both Wayne and Chris also make dealing with Darcars easy. All of these Darcars employees keep us raving fans of Toyota! read more

I should have written this review a few months ago, when we bought the car. We had a fantastic experience here. Our old CRV basically died, and was next door at the Honda dealer for service. We decided to go car shopping instead (our old car had about 200k miles on it). We walked in and were greeted by Garrick. He asked us what our time frame was for buying and we said, right now. We had seen the car we wanted at another Toyota dealer, but wanted to check it out at one more dealer before making up our mind. They had the same car with a slightly different color package (which we preferred) and were willing to beat the other dealer's price. It was the most painless process we ever went through. The finance person was also great. He took the time to explain everything to us and didn't hard sell us on extra options, but did help us understand the benefits of those options so we could make an educated decision. They were able to work a small trade on our old CRV and we drove off the lot with the car in probably about 2 hours. Still loving the car! We ended up getting a Toyota Rav 4 Adventure with a two-tone paint job. It still smells new. We'd totally go to these guys again for another car. read more

I bought a new battery here and notice my new car battery died after 3 days, I had to jumpstart my car to drive back to this dealership. I wanted to have this battery replaced at first but they refused and say it something else that is causing the battery drain which makes sense. They did a diagnostic for my car and says it was not the battery and pointed out that it was parasitic drain by some component and requires additional charge to do further diagnostics so they can pinpoint this root cause of the parasitic drain. It took them a whole day to take everything apart. Since I didn't hear from them late in the afternoon, I decided to call them on the status of my car. They told me that technician will be done with his shift in an hour so they need me to leave the car so they can further diagnostic since they haven't found the problem. So I told them I need my car that night and cannot leave it there. So they ended up out everything back to together in 30 min before I went to pick up my car. When I got there, I asked them what the issue was since they spend the whole day on it. I think service manager came up with something quick and says that it was the ECU that's causing the drainage and it will cost about $2K to replace it. I told them that I will think about it and get back to them. I was charged about $320+ for diagnostic for the whole day. I later took my car to another dealership in Gaithersburg to get 2nd opinion and I explained to them that Frederick dealership says that I have ECU issue that causes battery drain issue. The Gaithersburg Toyota dealership service manager told me that ECU issue that causes battery drain is very rare and recommended me to do a full diagnostic to find the root cause. Guess what? An hour later Gaithersburg account manager called me back and told me that they found the issue. It turns out it was the Battery that was causing the problem. So I was right in the first place that was the battery all along. I didn't have any battery drainage issue anymore after Gaithersburg dealership replaced with a new battery. Later on I called back to Frederick dealership to speak to the General Manager but his secretary told me he's in the meeting and not able to take the call. She told me to leave the message with her and her GM will call me back. I explained to her what the whole situation and she says she seen this type of issue before which I find it very odd. Anyway, I'm still waiting for her GM to call me back so I can get my refund for the battery and mis-diagnostic. I've been waiting months now... I will try Better Business Bureau next if I don't hear back from the GM. read more

Kelly Sheilds was a true pleasure to work with, and we, without a doubt, would recommend her to anyone wanting to buy a Toyota from DARCARS of Frederick. She kept us in the loop and seemed to genuinely care about helping us; she did her best in negotiating any kind of price break. No Pressure. She is very pleasant and personable. A+++ We really appreciate the dealership sticking to their guns with our agreement and not selling the Rav4 Prime out from under us like some dealerships that we have heard about have done, even though Frederick DARCARS had several offers, and for more money, for our Prime when it came in. A+++ Only downside is that the dealership tacked on a "DARCARS" fee that is not waivable. We were told that it applies to all DARCARS dealerships. So after the MSRP price, the dealer's prep, their markup, they add yet this other fee. But we were purchasing a vehicle that was in EXTREME demand and very scarce. Overall, we think we got our Prime for a decent price given the scarcity and demand. It appears that the particular dealership had no choice in this tack-on fee. but we still think it was just a "junk" fee. B+ We also discussed a trade-in for our Ford hybrid that had high mileage but in really good shape. They were not very interested and gave us a very low trade-in offer. They claimed they couldnt quote me a price as it hadnt been set yet. I said I will offer $5,000 down and the remaineder cash if they can figure out a price that we can agree on. I felt like I was at an auction and they were playing games. Maybe they blew me off due to my appearance (dress). Well they called me back a week later to sell me a cheaper lower priced corrolla because the one I wanted was running late. Still no price. Waste of time. Bought a Chevy volt. Called them to set a time for a recall on a 12 yr old truck. I went in and had then run the vin so they could order the part. I gave them a week. I drop it off for the 4hr repair. They told me about free 99 point inspection. I said no thanks. I am a mechanic and all i need is a set of tires soon. They call next day say they have to order parts. I was pissed. Why did I come in a week earlier to set it up. Then I get it back 2.5 days later and they show me this colorful inspection sheet and say they measured my brakes and did all this stuff. Tryed selling me tires. I asked what did they not understand fix the recall and let it go. Now I get ads with these fearmongering sales gimicks that I dont need. read more
