Joe, the owner, brought our dog a water dish and an additional dish for her to eat her kibble from (since it was her dinner time too). The pulled pork sandwiches were deliciously moist and very flavorful. The pasta and potato salads were also very good. This will definitely be a regular dining spot for us when visiting the Chester area. Their lovely gift shop, which you enter on your way to the dining area in back, is also very nice to browse while waiting for your meal.

(Park roads were closed but we were welcome to park in their lot and walk in to the trails.) That said, there was a lot less traffic in the area, so understandably, The Elegant Farmer had a limited menu so they don't end up with a lot of wasted food. We enjoyed the food and would have liked to sit outdoors, but the property next door had a huge bonfire going and it was very smoky. At first it was tolerable, but then the wind shifted and blew it towards us, so we ended up sitting indoors. This is not a negative review for the business, more so for our timing. We plan on coming back to Lassen Park to enjoy all the hiking once it opens back up in spring/summer, so we look forward to trying The Elegant Farmer again. It's a darling store/eatery, and the outdoor seating is charming. I recommend you try it out if you're in the area.

If you ask him where something is he will point and wave his hand back and forth and say over there. If you ask for specifics he will ignore you. Then there is a woman in her mid-thirties who is a long time employee or co-owner who seems nice but will flip and become hostile in an instant. She interrogated me about what I was going to use cold whether window washer fluid for. It was non of her business, the fluid was for the cars window cleaning system, and when did window washer fluid become a controlled substance?! The last time I went in she asked if I had an Ace Rewards # and I said yes but it doesn't work even though I updated my contact information twice (Third time worked). After I said that, she turned to me with hatred on her face and just stared. I stared back, pushed the unpurchased items back, said I didn't want them and left. When I looked back she was still staring. Creepy! I am a polite person who goes to great length to not be noticed which is hard because I am a big dude. I especially do not want to be seen exhibiting untoward behavior at any time. With this I am certain their responses are not due to me being a jerk. Luckily, they are not the only game in town!

They explained the weekly rate would be cheaper than 4 days. They brought it to us the 3rd. We actually were done with it Wednesday the 9th and called. They came and got it that day. My big shock???
