Do not let anyone start without looking at their work and checking their mental state. My friend and I were hoping to finally get the matching tattoos we always wanted. We did our homework and made sure to choose the best place we could find to avoid any issues. Unfortunately we were on our way to experience total disappoinment with permanent damage. When we arrived we were received by Loretta Dahlström who confidently told us she would be taking care of us. Everything started out well, my friend went up first and the first couple of lines were very straight. Unfortunately everything went down hill from here. Loretta began to shake and cry, it was hard to see how the tattoo was going because there was ink all over. She stopped, took her gloves off and in tears said she could not breathe and could not finish the tattoo. When my friend and I looked at it we realized just how bad it had gone. The lines were unfixable, the center crooked beyond repair. Now my friend has to look at tattoo removal options because Loretta had a full on panic attack while at work. She gave us $100 for my friend to go to another shop to get it fixed. What was supposed to be a $70 tattoo turned into $50 lost in a deposit, and a future $300 cover up or hundreds of dollars invested in a removal. Did my research, planned a month out, put in my deposit, And on the day of my appointment, Joe flaked via email with out an explanation. Went in anyways because my friend booked with a different artist on the same day. Her Artist was late, reeked of cigarettes and stopped the tattoo 30 mins in because he needed another cigarette. Went on to give my friend her least favorite tattoo of her life. Asked Joe when I could reschedule and he didn't respond. Finally asked for him to refund my deposit and he Venmo'd me with nothing except emojis in the body of the Venmo description. Insanely bad customer service, unsurprisingly he no longer works there. If I could give no stars I would. First off, I called repeatedly trying to make an appt, no answer and no voicemail. I thought maybe the number was wrong, nope they just don't answer. Should've been my first clue. My husband and I went in about a week ago to set up an appt and get a quote for my design. We walk in and there is one artist in the middle of a tattoo. He says he'll be with us in just a few minutes. 20 minutes later and we are still standing there when another artist walks in and the first guy asks him to help us. His name was Josh, he seemed to know what he was talking about, showed him my design, told me about two hours, set up my appt for the following week. Told him I had groupon, which he wrote on my appt card. So I arrived there lastnight at 745, appt at 8. There is one guy there, not Josh. Told him I have an appt with Josh, he looked puzzled and says "I heard he went to the hospital lastnight" I asked if he would be coming in at all he says " I'm not sure, I just started working here 4 hours ago". He called Sasha, the owner...no answer. He called Josh, no answer. I asked if he could check the appt book to see if my phone number was in it. He looked all over, no where to be found. My son came with me, he was interested in a tatt also, he points out to me the signs all over regarding customers using groupon, needing to say it up front because some artists do not accept them. There was not one sign up the week before. I had purchased a Groupon for 125 bucks for two hours. Which is what he told me it would take. We hung around for about 20 minutes trying to decide what to do, considering I drove up from Orting for this. The guy suggested calling him the next day to "bitch his ass out". What good will that do? I personally feel that I was treated this way because I had the groupon, and he wasn't going to make much money off of me. I will be calling groupon today to get my money back, and will not be back to dark horse nor recommend anyone go there. The shop is in an old car lot building. Very disorganized and cluttered. Even my son asked if it was safe to get a tatt there? We drove to Slave to the needle for a quote. I can tell you right now, what a difference! Take my advice, don't find yourself in my postion. Well at 1st I thought the guys here weren't taking us serious. My sister and I are pretty straight laced. On a whim my sister decided to get a new tattoo. We decided on this place. Small shop with lots of personality. The 3 guys working were very nice & professional. Concerned even about my sisters well being. Her tattoo was a very simple one and didn't take very long. I don't recall at this moment the guy who gave it to her but he was very nice and asked more then once if she was doing ok. So I think that is a sign of a good tattoo artist. He was also very helpful and asking how the direction of her artwork done. Shading and what not. They have many examples of their work. I took my mom to get a tattoo for her 50th birthday and decided to come to Dark Horse because they ran a groupon a few months ago. I paid $23 for $50 worth of tattoo. I bought two so I could also get my first tattoo. I have been really nervous about getting a tattoo because I'm a weeny and I was afraid it was going to hurt a lot. I have had a design picked out for a really long time and it finally came time that I needed to just buck up and do it. So when my mom and I walked in on Friday afternoon, she kind of went "uhhh..." And I said to her "Mom, any tattoo place is going to be a little rough around the edges. They're tattoo artists for heavens sake." Rough around the edges is so not true though. Sasha is the owner, as well as one of the artists and I feel that he has his shop very well decorated and it has a lot of character. He has a lot of his own art as well as his other tattoo artists art displayed on the wall, and while it might not be my own taste you can tell he is very talented. Sasha did my tattoo, which is a celtic style dragon, and Chuck did my mom's tattoo, which was a little art deco kitty. Pictures to follow when things are all healed up. My mom came in with a general idea and sketch of what she wanted her kitty to look like, but Chuck took it and ran away with it, creating something that she loved while keeping it within the same style. Sasha stayed pretty true to the picture I brought in, but I told him to do whatever he felt was necessary to make it work. The tattoo did hurt, but it wasn't anything you can't deal with. I felt like the lines hurt a lot more than the shading. In the end, I'm really happy with the work Sasha and Chuck did, and my mom is also very happy. While this may not be the cheapest shop on the block I really liked what one of the signs in their shop said: "A good tattoo is not cheap, a cheap tattoo is not good." If I decide to get another tattoo, I will be coming back here to Dark Horse. read more

Absolutely love this place!!! Nick is an amazing artist, totally listened to my vision and was able to put together all the million random pictures I brought in. Everyone in the shop is superrrrrr chill, very down to earth. Totally didn't mind the music but he even switched it to the island station because I told him I loved Jboog (sometimes the little things make a big difference). 11/10 Would definitely recommend to anyone! This is a review solely on their piercing, not tattoos. I really liked the attitude of the shop and how informative the guys who were working were. I went to get my naval pierced for the first time. I was not allowed to pick out my jewelry and was stuck with a small barbell. Within a week, even after careful cleaning, it was swollen and infected. And only a few months later, the ball at the top fell off, and the barbell itself broke off so I could not screw the ball back on. I was forced to change jewelry too early. After spending months fighting infection with it, I was finally forced to let it close up, but only after the skin stretching over the top of it was too thin and literarily tore. This now made it so I could no longer hold any jewelery at the piercing sight. just a few days ago I had the area checked by a different piercer, and he told me the initial piercing was too shallow to heal properly. In conclusion, I will not go back to Dark Horse in regards to repiercing my naval. Sweet guys, just not too sure if they know what they're doing. read more

I read another review about using a groupon I had no problems with mine and was treated equally! Sasha was flexible with scheduling, professional, and easy to be around for 3 hours! The other guy in the shop was super nice and personable too. In general I can be a picky person and I was impressed that I got exactly the tattoo I have wanted!!!!! First time being in here had an okay experience. Artist was very nice, detailed and knowledgeable! Facility seemed clean just a little cluttered and disorganized. I called to return and have a large piece of my shoulder done and was told I had to email to get an appointment. After requesting, for a second time, my previous artist, I was told he no longer worked there and my emails from then on we're completely ignored. Even after agreeing to see another artist. I'm not a prude but disrespect in my eyes is very unprofessional. Would have loved to go back with a similar experience to my first, and spend a nice chunk of change with these guys but I ended up going to a different shop. My boyfriend came here a while back and I came with him. It was his first tattoo and he was nervous so I told him about my experience with my first tattoo, which is a small heart on my wrist. I said that it was painful, So the tattoo artist told me I was "pathetic" and "lame".....seriously? He kept going on about how tiny it was and stupid that I said it hurt. I think Sasha is a good artist don't get me wrong but he totally screwed up my arm. He said he could do a tat where a dragon goes inside my skin at one point and comes out at another. He is not good enough to do this though and he should have told me that before I spent over $1000 over 4.5 sessions. Now I have to spend more than the price of the tat to get it fixed so I can actually show it to someone. There was an area that was supposed to blank (where the dragon was under the skin) but he filled it in with a design that was not agreed upon and looks terrible. So he did not give me the tat that I wanted and changed it without asking. I have to keep it covered up now and have to have it removed which cost 4 times the amount of the tat. read more

My husband and I went here to get tattoos together. They turned out okay, but the environment is lacking. It is completely unorganized and uninviting. I know this is a tattoo shop, but I've been in a few. This one is cluttered, dark and the decorations are less than tasteful. If we hadn't pre paid for our tattoos (Groupon) I would'n't have stayed mainly due to the unprofessional way the artists were talking among themselves - things I didn't want to hear. Despite making appointments and bringing in super simple designs, it took 45 minutes for them to even get started once we arrived. They seemed in no hurry at all with no respect for our time. There were no other clients there at the time either! We had a Groupon deal that they dealt with interestingly. It seemed like we were charged more than we would've been had we not had the Groupon. It was supposed to be $90 worth of a tattoo (not including a gratuity) and my two tattoos were simple single color outlines and tiny (like an inch each) and I was charged $30 additional not including the tip. I couldn't imagine anyone ever paying $120+ for what I got. My artist was nice, but unfortunately newer and I had to go back for a couple touch ups; not due to uneven color, but due to imperfect lines/shapes. The first (scheduled) touch up fell through because the artist didn't come to work that day. No one on the phone knew or really cared what was going on (thank goodness I called before walking in.) I was told "you can't expect us to work every day without a break." As if I knew the artist's work schedule and was asking him to come in a on a day off or something. It was an appointment I'd scheduled after all - over a week prior! I called to confirm prior to driving out there again for my second scheduled touch up. When I arrived, I found my artist doing someone else's tattoos. Again a longer wait. My last touch up cost me $20 and more was done to the tattoos than I wanted. I'm not 100% satisfied with the tattoos, but consider them good enough. I would give a higher rating if it was a review of just the artist because he was nice, but unfortunately can't recommend the shop. read more

I went to get a tattoo from Sasha with my cousin. we had a very odd request, a deer and a snowflake. I know it's not typical but it had special meaning pertaining to our grandparents who had just died. Sasha didnt like the idea, but we explained that it was very important to us. He wasnt willing to work with us to make the idea more artsy like other artist I have had in the past. he was rude, telling us we didnt understand art and asked us if we even had any tattoos (we both have more than 5). he was so rude that we left without getting anything. I understand that not everyone is going to like all my tattoos. but its my body, and if I want to mark it with something that means the world to me, like my grandparents memories, then it's my right. you dont have to like it but I am a paying customer and you should be respectful. read more

We came here on their $30 tattoo day for their 3rd anniversary. The wait was really long but we stuck it out. I think it was worth it, we both had two basic tattoos that were small and pretty simple that we've been wanting and this was a great way to test out a tattoo shop, meet some other people in Seattle and have some fun. About the anniversary party, if you are going to go to their $30 tattoo days please do a few things ahead of time. 1. Bring cash (most tattoo shops prefer cash especially on special event days!) 2. Know what tattoo you want and make sure it meets their criteria for the day (2" x 2" and 2 color max was their rules for us) 3. Keep it simple and don't change your mind all the time. Remember that they are trying to do everything at a professional level and still crank out as many tattoos as possible. Other people are behind you waiting. Just be mindful of this, I know it's going on your body and you need to like it but think a little about the line behind you that's waiting too (prepare ahead of time) 4. Be patient. If you aren't first in line you are going to be waiting a while. Remember that each small tattoo takes about 30 minutes plus set up and clean up. They had 2 artists so you are going to be waiting a while if you want that tattoo! Shop overall: The location was great! It's right downtown and really easy to get to. The shop was a little small but for two artists it's perfect! Tattoo Artists: Both were super professional and willing to help even when they were clearly taking a break. Absolutely TERRIBLE PLACE!!!! Guy is definitely racist because he tattooed my white friend but when it came time for my turn he refused to draw the cross the way I wanted it, like dude this is going on my body forever, and I only asked for something a little bigger and a little less curvy, and he flat out refused for no reason!! I've had 18 tattoos and this is the first time an "artist" refused to even draw out the tattoo the way I wanted it. I wasn't asking for much, I showed a picture of what I wanted and everything. Clearly the guy just didn't want to tattoo me and never before have I felt so discriminated against!! I will never return there and I hope this review makes people second guess going there!! I was even willing to pay for him to redraw the damn thing, I know when someone has an issue deeper than what they're playing at, I guess the hard core slasher music and the way they talked about people should have clued me in, but the refusal spelled it out for me. We came in a group of 4 girls 2 black and 2 white. The white girls both got tattoos without any issues or problems but when it came to my turn it went bad, and our other black friend they said just straight up couldn't get one because of time, even though we were going to be there for a substantial amount of time. I will be reporting this to the BBB. How embarrassing and hurtful. Oh well that was money I would never want to give to this place!! Oh and I want to clarify that this wasn't Sasha, he was amazingly sweet to all of us and he did an awesome job on my friend but hers was so big so he didn't have time to do mine. The guy to not go to is Josh, not a true artist at all, couldn't even handle drawing up a cross for a rosary!! I Have been going to dark horse for a couple of years and it is by far the best . ive been around the block when it comes to tattoo shops and this place is a gem . everyone that works here is generally in high spirits laughing joking ect so it has a fun atmosphere , every time i go here Sasha ends up being able to do my Tat even though i never make appointments he somehow always fits me in . i went in on Sat for a spur of the moment Piece i had thought up the night before and felt that i had to get it A.S.A.P i stopped by around 6:00 but came back at 7 because they were busy Sasha stayed after closing to make sure that my piece was perfect (and it is) oh and the best part they do not price gouge you Tattoos are not cheap (well if they are you should run fast from the establishment) the prices here are Fair and you get phenomenal work done . so forget the other shops in the area and stop in here read more

I went in today to get my tattoo fixed, that was just atrocious. The lines were awful, totally inconsistent, and just totally unprofessional. Sasha was not only professional, and kind, but he absolutely knows exactly what he is doing. He gave me recommendations, that turned out just fantastic. He was humorous, kind, respectful. Very Unprofessional and Flaky !!! I made an appointment for my daughter and myself to get a tattoo for her 39th birthday four days before we were to go in.I was asked if we could come in ahead of time to talk with the artisit, I had to say that as I live in Renton that was not possible but that we both wanted small not detailed tattoos and as this is not our first time we felt that it should be easy and not much in the way of time.My daughter has a vastly different work schedule and it takes months for us to be able to get together.I picked the Dark Horse based on its reviews although it is out of the way for me.We were bringing in many pics of what we wanted. I was then told they like a $50. deposit in case you dont show, I said no problem , I offered my CC #, I was then told never mind just come in at the correct time, if we werent there they would have to take a walk in if one was there and I said understandable but we will be there. We showed up 25 mins ahead of time and were told they had no appoinment for us, knew nothing about it and could not take us as they're 1p.m. was running late and wouldnt be in till 2 ( the time slot we were to have). Did we want to come back in 3 hours? No, I think not. If they were going to take a walk in if we missed our appoinment time and the 1 p.m. had missed hers, why not take us as walk ins as we were there and ready.Very flaky people here, at least on this day.My daughter had an interesting concept, perhaps as we are fairly middle class, main stream types we simple werent "they're type of people"....who knows.
