This is the BEST little family owned farm. From everyday fresh produce to the amazing weekend festivals, they have it all. The DreamWhips are AMAZING and the variety changes to create new seasonal favorites. Nate and his family are so wholesome and giving to the community. The "family" atmosphere is incredible and you leave planning your next trip back to see an old friend. The staff are so courteous and nice, ready to help without having to be asked! Our most recent trip was to attend the Pickle Festival, our second year in a row. It was amazing to have such a variety of vendors, entertainment, and food!! It was crazy busy but the staff were great meeting the needs of everyone as quickly as possible. Nate is quite the entertainer and is so gracious. We visited Darnell's Farm on June 23, 2026, and it easily earned 5 stars from our family! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was welcoming and relaxing. Families were enjoying the farm, kids were playing, and there were several swings overlooking the river that made for a beautiful place to sit and unwind. The farm offers a great variety of fresh produce, and the strawberry picking was a huge hit with our kids. Their favorite part was being able to snack on strawberries while picking them--an experience they won't forget! We also purchased some boiled peanuts, which were hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. But the real star of the visit was the ice cream. It was hands-down the best part of our day and so good that we're already planning to stop by again before heading back home. We took the long way home through the Smoky National Park and by doing so we came across Darnell Farms by accident. What a great find Darnell's was for us. They have the most beautiful fruit and vegetables. You can pick your own strawberries or grab a basket of fresh picked strawberries. They have so many other things such as salsas, jams, honey, sourdough bread, flowers and herbs. You will also find a self serve boiled peanut counter with regular and Cajun flavored. One of the most popular things they have is the Dream Whip. It's a sorbet like texture and it comes in numerous flavors with fresh fruit layered inside. I had the mango peach and it was amazing. There is lots of outdoor seating, a musician stage and playground. Plenty of picnic tables and chairs seating along the river. What a great place to bring the whole family including the fur babies. read more

Darnell Farms has a place in this TX heart! We visit family in Sylva twice a year. Each time we visit we make at least two stops by Darnell Farms. Today we went and stocked up on heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, lemons, limes, blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries. While I was shopping, my kids went to order the Dole whips. They have a variety of soft serve to choose from. As I was waiting in line to check out and place my own order, I noticed a chalk board that said "mocktails". I ended up ordering a strawberry and I think it was basil drink. They had several others to choose from. From the last time we visited, they've added a covered seating area with tables for people to enjoy outside where they can also see the action going on, on the stage. After we got back to the house, I enjoyed a cucumber salad and then had some of the blackberries and strawberries over Greek yogurt. Delicious! I'm sure we'll be back before our time in Sylva is over. read more

This place is quite relaxing nestled right along the river with plenty of trees for shade. You could spend hours here stretching your legs and enjoying a dreamwhip. There are several swing sets, a few see-saws, chairs for resting, and music playing in the background. I'm only giving it 4 stars based solely on the fact that the "fresh sliced strawberries" in our two strawberry dreamwhips were chunks of unappetizing frozen strawberries. The weird thing is that the "fresh strawberries" in the two pineapple dreamwhips we purchased were not frozen and tasted much closer to "fresh." The soft serve itself was delicious, just wish the strawberry ones weren't ruined by the unappealing frozen strawberries hunks. read more

Stopped by this place to do strawberry picking. It was not crowded and no reservations needed. It's a really cute place, they have a store with a variety of fruits, vegetables, plants and also food. Did strawberry picking and you get a bucket and you pay later based on weight. There were so many strawberries and it was easy to pick with the kids. Another thing I was excited to try was the strawberry dreamwhip. They had other flavors as well. It was really good, not overly sweet and refreshing. It has a nice view of the water and they have many picnic tables and small playground for the kids. It's a nice place for the family. read more

This is the second time I've been here. My grandkids come here as field trips. We were in the area. We wanted to try their nondairy ice cream. First, their prices are prohibitive. Don't expect any "farm stand" deals. $8 for watermelon? $28 for quart of honey, nearly $8 for jams. The "ice cream" might be something someone likes out there in the world, but my granddaughter could not eat any of her vanilla, the 3 boys could only eat 1/3 of theirs, mine tasted both too salty and too sweet though I finished it because I didn't want to waste the blackberries. I believed I tossed away about $28 in ice cream. read more

We usually stop by when we're in the area. We are suckers for the dole whip and fresh fruit, there's just something about those mountain strawberries. The staff are always friendly and helpful. When we visited this time, they were hosting a summer splash fest. We didn't participate but it looked like fun! Lots of bouncy houses and water slides and it drew a large crowd but didn't feel overwhelming. There was still plenty of parking. Super cute place to pick your own pumpkin! Definitely recommend if you're here during the fall time. Hayride to the pumpkin patch is $12 for adults and kids older than 2YO. When you first get there, there's several cute places for photo ops. They have swings and see saw to keep the kids entertained-- and it's FREE! They have a farmers market selling a wide range of fruits, veggies, snacks, drinks, etc. We came in the morning to hopefully beat the afternoon heat since it's been in the higher 70s this week. They had several field trips today so we had to wait a lot longer than normal I assume. Certainly worth the wait and cost to get to the patch. read more

Such a great place. Fantastic produce and lots of things for kids to do while you shop. Picnic tables are available as well. They also had live music. Beautiful location. The DreamWhips were really awesome. The mocktails were hit and miss. The blackberry mocktail was lovely, but the strawberry basil was bland and watery. They used dried basil, which was perplexing. I ran in the Strawberry Jam 5k 5/18/2024 which started at Darnell Farms. What great place to visit! Beautiful setting next to the river at the foot of the mountains! We also bought some marmalade and jam! Tried the Blueberry jam today and it was amazing! They also have Ice Cream that looked really good! I also had the fortune to get a photo with Mr. Darnell and we also had brief chat about what I did and where I grew up in Ohio. Great guy! Wish he was my neighbor! This is an awesome place and you should definitely go. We went in October and they had several really cute fall displays set-up for guests to take photos with (the 2020 displays were better --but 2021 was still really nice). They sell produce, in the fall they sell pumpkins, and have quite a bit of stuff to entertain the kids. They allow guests to fish in the river, have a lot for kids, and great ice cream. They also have a lot of picnic tables so you can pack lunch if you like. By topic: Admission/Parking: There is no admission charge, parking fee, or anything like that. We went on the hayride for which there was a charge (but I can't remember how much it was (not very much)). There is plenty of parking --please drive slow there are a lot of children. Playground: The farm has an awesome playground. They have a lot of really well-constructed swings (including baby style swings), a small jungle gym, seesaw, a tire swing, and a hollowed out (but alive) tree that kids can play in/around. I (a 6 foot tall man) could enter the tree and fully stand up. The playground is really great --and allows parents to sit and enjoy hot chocolate or the Darnell Farm's "dreamwhip" while the kids play. The playground is also right next to a sizeable river providing a beautiful backdrop. Hayride: My daughter LOVED the hayride. They had farm tractor pull a long trailer where they had set hay bales to sit on. Our driver (didn't catch his name) was super nice, ensured people boarded and un-boarded safely, went at a safe speed, and ensured everyone had a great time. The hay ride took roughly 30 minutes. It went all around the farm and stopped at their pumpkin patch. My daughter LOVED looking at the variety of pumpkins and we got some awesome photos. The hayride ticket includes picking a pumpkin and taking it with you. Our hayride driver let us stay a little longer here --one of the guests had special needs and was really enjoying the pumpkin patch --and we all really appreciated the employee driver's kindness. The hayride then continued on and unloaded us at the corn maze. It was a little muddy --we went following a rain --so I recommend wearing shoes/boots you don't mind if they get a little dirty. My daughter really enjoyed the maze. The hayride driver continued (without us) to the other side of the hayride and set our jackets, picked pumpkins, etc., at a table for us when we came out of the corn maze. After the corn maze there was a covered area (similar to a green house) with a slide, hay pile, and little areas with corn kernels that the kids could scoop with provided little toys. My daughter LOVED this. Produce: When we went in October, they had a lot of pumpkins, to include, some unusual ones. My daughter loved looking at all of them. They also provide little wagons to use and my daughter loved riding in the little wagon with all of her pumpkins. They have a lot of produce too and the prices are very reasonable. They also sold jellies, salsas (to include mango salsa!), and other similar things. They also sell "dreamwhips" which are essentially soft serve ice cream mixed with fruit. The strawberry one was really good --my daughter who is usually very good about sharing was not so good at sharing the strawberry one.. We also had the caramel apple one and it was really good. When we visit the area we always buy our produce here and make a point to visit. Darnell Farm also accepts credit cards --which is great if you want to buy a bunch of produce, dreamwhips, and a hayride. Employees: All of the employees we met were super friendly. There was a young lady working the register and making the dream whips who was SUPER friendly and super kind. Music: They also have a small stage where sometimes they have music --they had music when we visited and they were pretty good. Schools: We've noticed that Darnell Farms opens to some of the local schools for the kids to learn about agriculture, bee keeping, etc. The students all seem to enjoy their visit and were all very well behaved. I would recommend they improve their bathrooms facilities. Currently, they bathroom facilities consist of port-o-potties and portable sinks. They were clean and the sinks were stocked with soap, paper towels, etc. For changing the baby having a full bathroom would have been really helpful. We ALWAYS make a point to stop in when we're in the area and ALWAYS have a great time. If you're anywhere near Darnell Farms, and particularly if you have kids, you have to make a point to visit Darnell Farm. read more

This place is amazing. Right alongside the river, there are picnic tables and grills to just hang out. They have swing sets for the kiddos. Lots of fresh strawberries that are just beautiful. They have drive through grocery shopping (which you can create a list online) with lots of fresh produce. They have meats, cheeses, beans, fruits, veggies, plants, jellies and more. Really worth a stop. Not to mention they have dream whips! I guess it's like a dole whip but they put their own fresh strawberries in it too. Three empty hayride rigs we're sitting in the loading area with their drivers at 11:00 and were not allowed to take our family out The drivers apologized but the rule was not flexible. I am exploring the area with my family. A big rain storm cancelled most of our outdoor plans for that good part of the day. By four pm my two year old was stir crazy. We decided to head to Darnell Farm. What a great idea. My son ran around like crazy and got out lots of energy. We went on a Monday , but there are a lot of other activists that happens on the farm Thursday through Sunday. This place was so fun!! It is the coolest farmers market/produce stand I've ever been to. It's right on the water, they have swinging hammocks you can lay in, and great produce. Their honey was amazing and reasonably priced. They had fresh eggs, jams, jelly, and soooo much fresh produce. It also looked like they had some kind of stage. It's picturesque, has a semi-wide river rushing by, and laughter can be heard as the children swing on swings, ring an old fashioned bell, climb about a 1950s pickup truck, hide in a hollowed out tree trunk, and bury each other in corn kernels which fill up a huge "sandbox." read more
