On my most recent visit, she repeatedly told me I needed to floss more aggressively and pushed for a deep cleaning for my next appointment. What stood out wasn't the advice but the delivery. She brought it up over and over in the same visit, even after I acknowledged each time that I understood and would definitely get back to my regular flossing routine. It started to feel like being lectured rather than treated like an adult who'd already gotten the message. She also talks a great deal, and the appointments stretch to about an hour and a half as a result. It was jarring that her tone didn't match the dentist's. The dentist gave me a normal, low-key reminder to floss and basically said things looked fine, while the hygienist treated it like an emergency. This was also the first time in all my visits here that I'd ever gotten this kind of feedback, so the intensity felt out of proportion. A few weeks later, my husband saw the same hygienist. She left the suction tool pressed against the side of his mouth long enough that he developed a blister on his lip that lasted several days, along with an abrasion inside his mouth. Both of us had good experiences with the dentists we saw, but between the tone, the length of the appointments, and that injury, neither of us will be coming back.
