You're only as good as your weakest link and here it is apparently front office and their lack of communication to patients. I was ready to pursue major cosmetic dental work and they never followed up with me. I actually called them 3 times and they couldn't get in contact with me and return my inquiries. The dentist then made an excuse that my voice mail was full, which it was...BUT they also had my email and could have called me more than one time giving me the chance to answer the phone.... I hate going to the dentist. It's nothing personal against the doctor. It's more of PTSD from bad experiences in my previous life. Seriously, the only time I would go to the dentist was when I had a problem. This led me to Old Settlers several years ago where I met Dr. Zavala. He fixed me up, brought me back for a cleaning etc. He recommended a deep cleaning. I didn't return. I think that was in 2016/17. I developed another problem. I think this time it was a cavity. Maybe a root canal. So I went back. Dr. Zavala and his team (shout out to Jessica) really came down to my adolescent level and worked with me. Dr. Zavala has excellent bedside manner. He talked me through everything he did and made sure I had enough numbing in the gums so I wouldn't feel anything. I went back for the deep cleaning. He numbed me up for the initial clean. One hour per side which took two visits. It was a challenge for me as I can't sit still that long, but, they were awesome and got me through it. So now it's routine visits every four months with tooth cleaner extraordinaire Jessica. I've just completed my second cleaning, and, I take it like a real grown up. I'm no longer that scared little boy. I've turned twelve, and, the world is amazing. read more

I always HATE getting procedures involving needles but here, I'm completely confident and relaxed, no anxiety. I have never seen a place with such bad communication, its like their afraid to call patients and deliver bad news only through text if ur lucky to get contacted. I was actually refused service because of an office communication issue. I was on morphine and the staff didn't communicate this when the office manager was on vacation so rather than picking up the phone it was a text message war. I refused sedation because i did not want to mix meds, still sent me the link to the script. I didn't need it being on pain meds. In my opinion i made the right decision by saying no. They also wait until the last min to prescribe the sed meds, someone that's disabled and relies on other people that's pretty nuts. They also said they were going to send in medical ness. forms to the ins and never did despite having it in text messages. The office also does not know how to do math and will send you bills telling u your 90 days late when you already paid in advance having sedation. Your also not supposed to make decisions sedated but they do that to. They didn't even submit the claim until this month and then i got the bill so it backs my claim because they were going to submit that claim until the falling out or the date would reflect such. I was also told by the office manager prior this year she would submit but then when she was on vacation i called to inform about my surgery and not needing sedation and I was told by staff that the office manager before leaving that she didn't even know if she wanted to submit the claim. Why do this behind a patient's back just be blunt and say you're not going to do your job. The communication is terrible here and patients are going to get hurt. I can't believe they did this to a sick patient, ur whole operation is around sedation dentistry and making people comfortable. If you have a disability, I would avoid this place, it's not worth the stress or getting hurt over miscommunication. The hygienist and Dr. Lewcock are excellent at their job and amazing people, but the staff play around too much and seriously need to stop gossiping and return phone calls and stop texting everything and communicate, I wish you the best. read more

I was placed on a wait list for a dental cleaning. The appointment setter reached out to me at 9:30am the previous day stating that they have an opening for the following day at 3:00pm. I accepted the appointment. However, on the day of appointment I had a conflict and would need to cancel the dental appointment. I called at 9:30am to cancel and I am being told that they would have to charge me $75 for a cancellation fee. The manager stated that they have a strict policy of the cancellation fee and since I accepted the appointment that I am responsible to pay for the $75. First, I am cancelling early in the morning and they still have time to get someone on my slot at 3:00pm. Second, they expect patients to give them 24 hours to cancel for something that we have been waiting for for days, weeks, months! Third, the woman who took my call just did not exhibit empathy at all. This is not the type of dental professionals that you would want to deal with. The dentist may be nice and knowledgeable but if the staff are not nice and the patient concerns are not looked at more deeper then I would rather take my business someplace. read more

VERY, VERY AND EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED....... A Senior patient (83yrs old) with out Insurance and very, very low income, was definitely taken advantage of, she had NO dental Insurance, she was never ask at check in if she forgot to provided them with Insurance or advice (again) at check in if she was going to be able to pay more than $400.00 for just a cleaning, they waited till after her appointment to ask for payment in full, which it took 50% of her monthly income to pay "JUST FOR CLEANING" I see this as a VERY unprofessional way to conduct business, when I call to speak with Office Manager, the answer was; "She is on vacation till next week" (of course) and were quick to rush me to hand up the phone. Wish I could rate this place zero stars. Arrived just 4 minutes late with all my paperwork completed and was not able to be taken for a cleaning. Waiting room was completely empty and staff members were laughing and joking in a nearby office, I guess the conversation was just too good to leave. Receptionist should also take a class on customer service. She made it seem like it was an honor that they even let me walk through their doors and be considered as a possible patient. Dr is fine Dr Lewcock always does a great job, dental assistants always friendly but I have to say that Cynthia and Rayna biller/receptionist are not customer friendly want to be naysayers. Both are defensive not pleasant to talk to. Example: "Well I called you back" example you owe $441.00" and you didn't get back to us and yes I DID call you back" Who needs it so many other dentists office i can go to. They are charging me for 5/19 services when at the time they were supposed to have verified my coverage before the dental work was done. Come at me a year later and tell me i am not covered and then expect me to pay. Today, I had Cigna on the line with me and she verified I had coverage at the time of service but because Old Settlers billed the wrong insurance its my fault. Again, why did they not verify my insurance first. I am on the hook for this bill because Old Settlers did not do they homework. Something fell through the cracks on their end because I gave them Cigna as the provider. They dropped the ball and want me to pay. I don't understand it is their job to verify coverage. read more

This place is nuts. Not only does the place look nice, but the staff is very nice. My dentist chair MASSAGED MY BACK the entire time I was sitting in it....WHILE I WAS WATCHING TV. Pretty surreal. Dr. Z is super nice, even after he found out there was little to no chance I'd ever be coming back to his office again (I was moving). I have an embarrassingly huge fear of dentists. Because of this, I went years without going to one, then went to another office in town only to have a HORRIBLE experience. After being assured several times by my boyfriend that this place wasn't horrible, I worked up the nerve to go in. The hygienist commented that I looked nervous, so I told her about my fear. She was very kind and didn't make me feel stupid for being anxious. She took the time to explain everything she was doing and why she was doing it, stopping periodically to check and make sure that I was still doing okay. Dr. Zavala then came in to do the exam and first spent a few minutes discussing my past experiences and why I felt the way I did about going to the dentist. He answered all of my questions without making me feel self-conscious or belittled and asked what they could do to make me feel more comfortable. There was a mix up when scheduling my fillings, but Reina and the office staff quickly made it right and even mailed a hand written apology for the confusion. The office itself is very nice. It's clean, full of windows, the chairs have massagers and there are TV's for you to watch while you're getting worked on. No, they're not the cheapest service in town, but you certainly get what you pay for here. They're friendly and compassionate, and definitely perfect for anyone who has anxiety about going to the dentist. read more

Dr. John would like to you he told me that I was skinny porcelain veneers that the whole thing would take about a month maybe a month but I have to finish at first it was fine I wouldn't get the work done the first day it was OK they did the temporaries am still like to believe that it was temporary but here's why the very next morning I have sensitivity from them show me my teeth so far down first the second day so much sensitivity on my first tooth they had a call I had to go back in so they could do a root canal two days later the other two started filling sensitivity is it I would have to go back into another root canal so is it was every couple days that I was going in.To get a root canal every single tooth that they filed down did it so far to the route that it was impossible to keep so I was left with no teeth at the top still told I was getting temporary veneers they drilled under the tooth under the temporary veneers I had only one tooth remaining on my top teeth that they trim so far down to and kept right there. If you don't seem happy about going in every other few days then I think they are treating him unfairly at that. They had already knew that they couldn't do veneers which I got confirmed by four other Dentists office and said that they never planned on doing that yourself that once they remove those teeth that they were going to do crowns that a regular normal crowns that was the same price that I put at the beginning of the process they tell me that it was around $12,000 for the veneers I had put almost 7000 down and for other dentist office confirmed that I would be around $8000 to just have the top finished permit not temporary. After so many complications Dr. Savo ended the whole process he said that I was being too difficult even though the complications were brought on by them not doing their job correctly I wanted to help on the weekend was Friday I had called and told him I had already left the office about three months told him that my veneers fell out. Was told there's nothing they could do about it I would have to pay another 1500 if I want another temporary one in unhelpful and professional life from the beginning I won't even have a Veneers what I originally asked for and what I thought was the goal now I will have a bridge that is a crown and that is a big difference they could've done it from the beginning and they chose not to and chose to lie to me about it and then was upset about all the complications that occurred because of they offered to give me half the money back they didn't even give me the full amount and tell me I would need to find another dentist another dentist is the one that told me that there was no way I could ever have veneers bey if the work they did .... there liars they ruined my teeth don't trust them Sherry is just as guilty she led me to believe the whole thing was temporary veneers when it was never veneers read more

Most dentist offices that I've been to have no respect for your time and herd you like cattle. Old Settlers is a much friendlier place with great service and a customer focus. I really want to give this place 5 stars, but the office staff is preventing me from doing so. When I called to schedule my first appointment I asked if they took my insurance and they told me yes. Perfect! I called early May to schedule an appointment with them and provided my insurance information at that time. When they called to remind me of my appointment, I needed to reschedule for a later day. They seemed to be understanding about it and moved my appointment for early June. Great! The morning of my appointment, I received a phone call saying that they tried to verify my insurance (that same day) and was told my employer no longer has a contract with them. I knew that wasn't right as my employer takes money out of my paycheck every month. I called my insurance to see what was going on and they said that the account was very much active and that they would call Old Setters Dental. I gave it a few minutes and called the office staff back. It turned out that I inadvertently gave them the wrong ID number. I apologized for the mistake and asked again about the coverage and again I was told they took my insurance. The woman told me that my insurance company faxed them my coverage information and said they'd see me later that afternoon for my appointment. Perfect! Everything was cleared up. I arrived a few minutes early, as suggested, to fill out paperwork. After I filled everything out, I verified that they had my insurance card and a lady smiled at me and politely said yes. My wait time after that was normal. The lady that did my X-rays was really sweet! The hygienist that cleaned my teeth was wonderful! In fact, I think that was the best cleaning I've had in YEARS! (Man, I really wish I could give them 5 stars!) Dr. Lecock was awesome! He was very thorough and took his time to explain some of the concerns I had. We probably talked about 10 minutes just on teeth whitening. "Try the at home kits first before you invest in the whitening trays. Your teeth are already white." I knew he was right for me when he didn't try to pressure me into buying something that I really didn't need. After all of my questions had been answered, the hygienist gave me one of those cute take-home kits like most offices and walked be back up front to check out. At the checkout counter, I was greeted with several smiles and compliments. "Your balance today is $169.00" Wait. Huh??!! I asked the lady who was helping me if that was before insurance and with a smile, she said no that's after insurance. I told them that I had never paid that much for a dental visit. She politely told me that the first visit is the most expensive because of the X-rays and that the visits after won't be as expensive. I asked if I could pay half of that and be billed the rest and she said that was fine. As she was swiping my card, I was thinking how I didn't pay that much when I had my cavity filled a few years ago. Right as I was thinking about how things just didn't seem right, my thoughts were interrupted by more compliments from another lady in the front. I was handed my receipt, thanked them, and left. On my way home, I called my insurance company back to see why I had been charged so much. I read them everything that was on the bill and they told me that all of that should have been covered as I have a $0 copay. I called the office back to speak to the office manager and she was with another patient so I left a message. I think we played phone tag two or three times the next day, but that didn't bother me. When we finally spoke, she told me I was charged so much "because Old Settlers Dental is out of network." Wait. Huh??!! I told her about all the times I asked if they took they insurance and them telling me yes and all she could offer me was an apology. Listening to her unapologetic apology made me so irritated and upset because I asked many times about my insurance. The office had several opportunities to let me know that they were out of network. Let's see when it could've been an appropriate time to tell me they were out of network: -back in May for my first appointment, -anytime between the initial appointment and rescheduled appointment, -the morning of my appointment, -after my insurance called to verify coverage, -and anytime BEFORE I sat down to have X-rays and a cleaning Why on God's green Earth would I want to pay $170 for a R O U T I N E dental cleaning? I really feel deceived. I hate that I have to find another dentist not solely on them being out of network, but because the office was not honest. Jennifer, one of Old Settlers' dental hygienists is absolutely amazing! I have had several cleanings done here, and while none of them were extremely uncomfortable, today was effortless. I have such bad dental anxiety, sensitive gums and teeth, and a slew of dental work to be done.. so usually I dread going to the dentist for days before my appointment. If you're like me, and even a simple cleaning makes you nervous, then request Jennifer for your next appointment. I guess I'm not alone in thinking this because she is booked up pretty far in advance, but definitely worth the wait. My big concern about this office is their business ethics. They INTENTIONALLY deceive patients. I called to schedule an appointment 1st question I asked was Do you take my insurance, was told yes. They gave me a few dates but I couldn't schedule any had to call back. Finally got my calendar, called and scheduled, the lady took ALL my insurance information. The day of my appointment it was raining really hard so I called because I knew I wouldn't make it on time. They said it was fine and to come on in. I made it filled out all the paperwork and the lady at the front took my ID and insurance card. So before I made it to the chair I had contact with someone in this office 4-times. The visit was ok. The cleaning was fine. Nothing to rave about I'm not complaining either. At check out I was told I had no charge that my insurance would be billed. 2 weeks later I get a bill $169.00! I immediately called my insurance, turns out the office is OUT OF NETWORK! Wait what? The office told me they took my insurance yes (play on words) BE WARNED. They never said they were in network, they take all insurance AND they will gladly take your money too! But, they did say I had no charge when I walked to the check out counter. So yes they INTENTIONALLY deceive patients. Needless to say I will never be going back to that office. I should had never switch dentist, this was just so much closer. I'm going back to my old dentist office even if its a bit of a drive, at least I know I can trust them. read more

This is the worst dental practice ever! I am not sure where to start. I made an appointment as a new patient and arrived 5 minutes early. I was shocked to see that there was nobody in the office but me. I thought perhaps there was a misunderstanding. When the receptionists finally arrived, I learned that I was right and it was their practice to ask everybody to arrive 20 minutes early for no reason. Some other patients in the waiting room confirmed me that they always wait in that office for a long time. When I said to the receptionist that this doesn't make sense and the answer was "no biggie!". Then my teeth was cleaned by a hygienist who was OK and she did regular brushing and flossing, nothing unusual on me. The dentist was nice but he basically looked at my teeth to offer recommendations for further treatments, no check up, nothing. He told me to wait outside for a quote. Another 20 minutes of waiting in a dark room. When I asked how more I had to wait, they said the quote is almost ready. I finally got it and before leaving, they said they did a special cleaning on me due to some ancient gum disease. I told them that this was just a regular cleaning but they wouldn't listen. I wanted them to check with the hygienist. More waiting, asking me to move from one place to another so they can address me (not making it up, it is an open office but I had to face the quote lady in a certain angle so she could respond to my question) and she said, yes, I had to pay out of pocket. Nobody told me this in advance before doing the cleaning. The ladies are plainly rude, and their way or highway people. I told my husband to cancel his appointment immediately so our money would not go to this shameful group of people. Save your time and go find another place. read more

I am terrified of dental work. Dental stuff grosses me out and I'm always an anxious mess when it comes to my teeth. I started going here a couple of years ago when I got some good dental insurance. I was so impressed by the staff ad their ability to make me feel comfortable and not like a crazy person. I recently became pregnant and happened to develop a few cavities. I was so scared bc I knew I couldnt have the good drugs and they don't use nitrous gas there. I had to get my teeth repaired of course so I made the appointment. They went over all cost details way before my appointment and with my insurance, I got a great price. So.....my appointment rolls around and my pregnant self is all wound up, feeling a little nauseous and sweaty. I was pleasantly surprised when the staff walked me thru everything before it happened and I am still amazed at Dr Zavala's ability to give me Lido shots with minimal pain. I mean, seriously people......yeah it hurt a little but it was nothing like I thought it would. He tapped on my jaw while injecting the med and that provided me w a nice distracting stimulus. (I'm a nurse so I totally knew what he was doing and found out that s@#$% works for real). Anyhow, to my surprise the lido was effective and remained effective thru the entire procedure. I had cavities filled and had a decent time. If you're creeped out by dental stuff or are just nervous and are afraid of being judged, visit these guys. Dr Zavala and his staff will treat you with respect and help you keep your teeth and gums healthy. read more

This place is good... And full well deserving of 5 stars except for the fact that the office staff is not upfront about them being out of everyone's network. I'm so mad and beyond upset that I went in thinking they were in my network, my bad... When the lady said "we take all insurance", I assumed that meant they were in network. No one mentioned that they are not in a network until I was paying out.... AFTER my cleaning was completed. The dentist and office staff are respectful and fun people. I loved Dr. Zavala and Esparanza. They eased my fears and explained everything as it was occurring. However because my insurance was out of net work the cost of a new crown cost me the rest of my insurance benefits and almost $900 out of my pocket. The work is outstanding but very expensive. My last dentist cost me $400 out of pocket for a crown and I had enough benefits to last me through the year. I hope to be able to continue to see Dr. Zavala but I am trying to figure out how to afford the services. The 4 stars rating is because of the price but Dr. Zavala and Esparanza deserve 5 stars for their work. read more
