What do you say about DKR? It's undergone some major transitions since my days as a student. I mean the jumbotro, the burnt orange fireworks, the drone shows. Game days and nights at DKR are a spectacle! Game days are swarming with people trying to get to their gates, lines of people trying to order food and drinks, vendors setting up in the middle of nowhere to sell beer, water, seltzers, etc. *Water from these vendors can cost you more than the stadium stores. I don't know how pricing is determined. You can find self serve stadium stores for water, drinks, and snacks. They also have free water filling stations so you don't have to break the bank ordering water, but these can be hard to find when hundred of thousands of people are around. They also offer many food options from Pluckers, Tony C's, SmokeyMo's, Stubbs, HTeaO, Amy's, and so much more. Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium at Cambell-Williams Field is the football stadium for the The University of Texas college football team. It has been in operation for over 100 years. It is a state-of-the-art facility that has continually gone through upgrades and renovations to enhance the fan and student-athlete experience. The stadium is host to numerous facilities such as the Moncrief-Neuhaus Athletic Center and Dr. Nasser Al-Rashid Strength Complex. The stadium has a lower and upper deck. There are also enclosed clubs and lounges in various areas of the stadium. Most of the seating is bleachers unless you are on the home side that have some seats with seat backs. There are many options for food and concessions in the stadium but the price points are very high. Shade in the stadium is at a premium and depends on the time of day. They are pretty good with crowd control but the stadium can hold over 100K people so can get very crowded. Now the field is a field turf surface. I live in Austin and this city lives and breathes UT Football. The team has been solid over the last few years and has been contenders for the CFB playoffs. The energy is always lively in the building. I will warn people. Be aware of the weather and the time of the day of the game. My friends and I enjoyed the game. But we went to a noon game on a day that it was over 90 degrees. Even with hats, we couldn't last the whole game and had to leave early. If you go during a hot day, I'd recommend buying covered seating if possible. If you can, I'd also suggest trying to go to a night game. Night games are way better. Regardless, the stadium is amazing and the team has been phenomenal. Since moving to Austin, I go to games all the time with my wife and friends. read more

Best college football game in my life. *UGA beat No.1 Texas on 10/19/2024 in a city that had a championship atmosphere. The drone show was an Olympic level quality production. Simply awesome! Hospitality was an A. No fights, no drinks or food thrown, no animosity to visiting fans UNTIL the 3rd quarter when a horrible call was made and that's when fans threw bottles and cans onto the field. I was in that section that started it but there was never any hostility towards us. The Georgia Bulldawgs had a dominating win, 30-15, and I shook hands with others when it was over. Respect. They got something special going on in Austin. I'll never forget that game. It's already a treasured memory. If I was born in TX, I would have gone to school at UT. read more

We recently went to an evening game to watch the Longhorns play and if you have never been to a game, you really need to go. We have had season tickets for a very long time and have seen a lot of changes over the years. They really stepped it up and kept up with the times and there really is a whole game experience. I was not happy that the fireworks were shooting off behind us but I guess they move them around for different night games. Buying food and drinks is much quicker than it used to be due to all of the self serve vendors. It makes wait times practically nonexistent. My only complaint is that there is no parking around the stadium. People who go to the games know this and most people have found spots to park but they either going to charge you quite a bit or you're going to have a lengthy commute. I don't mind paying for parking but I think $50 a game is a little excessive. Hook Em Horns! read more

I would've given five stars but it was not easy finding our seats or the clubhouse everyone we asked were volunteers didn't know anything about entrance or where the Ricohclub was. We paid extra for the Ricoh club per person. It was very crowded very hard to find a seat. Lots of children running around. People were saving seats, and nobody sat in them for hours . the buffet was great for $35. The bartenders really sucked at pouring drinks at $15 a drink. I did go up and talk to them, and they did give me a complimentary Shot to make up for the lack of liquor in my first drink. read more

There are no bad seats at the Longhorns home field. From the top you can see the whole game, end zone to end zone. Down below, you can get pumped up by Texas Pom and Cheer, hear the field chatter, and practically smell the sweat pinging off the turf. Be careful at those 11 am games; the sun can be a beast! Head down early and get a little pregame on the midway or join new friends at a tailgate... some of them are pretty epic! Prepare to take a while getting out of the stadium. For just that purpose, head to LBJ fountain for Longhorn City Limits concerts after the game. You may want to grab a drink as you walk over because the lines can be pretty long once the show begins. I've been coming to this stadium since the 1980's. So I have seen it get bigger and many improvements made. That being sad, last night we were at the Wyoming v Texas game. We were there a few weeks ago versus Rice but that game was at a hot 2:30 time. This was an evening 7pm kickoff. Such a different experience. I have sat in many places but all the seats are great and the Jumbotron is huge so you don't miss anything. This year they unleashed their LED orange lights which along with music made the stadium rock! Sold out crowd of over 100,000 had so much energy. They even had drones. Such a great atmosphere. Foods: Mighty Fine Burgers, Chick-fil-A, Rudy's, Stubb's, Plucker's, Amy's Ice Cream plus your regular concessions. Restrooms are plentiful and clean. Staff is helpful too. read more

So... approximately 10-15 YEARS ago, Darrell K Royal wasn't too intimidating, but the atmosphere I experienced yesterday in Austin has graduated from average Big 12 stadium to mid-level SEC stadium in a short period of time. What has helped? Far more seats, an enclosed ring that increases the decibel level, and an improved product on the field which increases fan interest. Don't believe me. Take it from Alabama's future NFL star Will Anderson who said it was the toughest road environment he has ever experienced, and that includes Ben Griffin in Gainesville, Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, and mighty Jordan Hare in Auburn. Wow. Add in the fact that the sweltering Austin heat had field temperatures near 110 degrees and you have the perfect recipe for a very dangerous road game in this soon to be SEC stadium. I've watched games from multiple areas in this huge stadium and every spot has been such a different experience. Let's break them down for you: Sitting on the bleachers without a chair back can be pretty uncomfortable and cramped, but there's not much sitting in those areas. The energy in the bleacher sections is something else though! Even the seats in the end zone sections have good views, especially if you're a little higher up. Speaking of higher, the only place I will never sit again is the upper deck because it's down right scary! That's a me thing though. The Touchdown Club is a great experience on the 8th floor of the end zone seating on the north side of the field. It's right under the upper deck so you get some shade sometimes. It has real seats and a nice indoor club area that's pretty sprawling since there are so many small club sections. The game that we went to might have been an exception, but there was more sitting in this section. I enjoy being able to sit and stand at my leisure m, so that was nice. The buffet was pretty impressive and the cash bar wasn't too crowded through the game. I liked this spot! The Texas Club is on the 7th floor between the 20's and also gets some shade from the upper deck (I'm guessing because it was dark at the game we went to). The game we went to was a sell out and the Texas Club was no exception! It was very crowded with not enough seats indoors to eat. Luckily, the real chair seats are a great place to eat, and the food choices were endless and excellent! The cash bar was also overcrowded and there was only one set of bathrooms.m, so long lines everywhere! I really liked the Texas Club, but overcrowding does take away from the VIP experience. The special entrance might have been the best VIP feature! The suites are a special treat! And way to expensive for us to ever get into without a special invite from a big donor friend. But if you can score the invite, the food is amazing and you can't beat the seating and experience! The best part about the suites and the clubs is you can go in early instead of tailgating outside in the unreliable Texas weather. No matter where you sit at a Longhorn football game, you're bound to experience some amazing college football energy with 100,000 of your closest friends! read more

This stadium is huge! Of course it is though ... I mean it is Texas. Did you expect something low key!? It's holds over 100k people! The stadium seems to have a good view no matter where your seat is located. It can be hot depending on where you sit and you may get some sun depending on the time of day. It's pretty easy to navigate once you are inside the stadium though and tailgating outside the stadium is super fun too! The food was decent. I had a hotdog and a soda and the prices were to be expected for stadiums I would say. I noticed on the lower levels there were more options as far as food goes. This stadium is the worst college football stadium. It is so small so you're constantly pushing your way through crowds. They ran out of drinks. After the game started the main walkways were covered in dirty water. It's a disgusting stadium! read more

I would describe as a giant high school stadium on steroids. I have visited many NFL and college stadiums and this one is a little outdated. But instead of tearing it down like Texas A&M and rebuilding it this place has been updated and modified since the 1920s. The sound and giant video screen are located on one side. It can be a bit distracting and many say they hate the brightness and loud volume. Only certain sections have real seating where most is bench. The leg room is very tight and have to stand up to let passers go by. I have pretty much sat in every section here and can spend a lot of time of which is preferred or for the price. Certain sections gets a better LTE signal but there is no in stadium WiFi for fans. From the stands it's wall to wall seating except the south end zone where there are some bleachers under video screen. Plans are to enclose this side which I think will make it claustrophobic. Underneath the seating you will find concessions and beer vendors. Underneath the north end you will find a food court and nice seating, but cannot see the field and goes fir all sections. Starbucks anchors the tenants and this area is open for students to use during the week. The are video screens in the concourse area to keep an eye on the game with waiting in line for food or drinks. Each side of the stadium has an official Texas Store and noticed each has different inventory so check out both. Alcohol and wine is available for purchase including mixed drinks in certain areas. Players play on field turf. Overall this stadium is not terrible but not modern. During the season home games it can get very hot. Parking is mostly in garages but the further you park away the better where you may spend time parking but driving away is much easier. Leaving the stadium can be a hassle depending on which section you are sitting. read more

The fans were loud and proud and the game has not even started. Before you get to the stadium; you are walking by the tailgate, after tailgate parties. This group. That group. All enjoying UT experience. WOW. Seats are a bit snug for my ass, but everyone stands and cheers anyway. Go UT Go. It was wild. Lots of food options within the stadium. Plenty of adult beverages. The best part; they don't mark up prices like other stadiums. I had a few Tall Boys at $8 a pop. I usually pay $12/14 price range for beer. One of the top 10 largest college stadiums to house 100,000 people at once. You can legally buy beer and wine at the games, and the football games were something to see. Tailgates outside the stadium are a mixture of students, adults, locals, and a decent alumni crowd. It's a friendly sea of burnt orange that you're excited to join. The football games and longhorn band performances at half time are so good to watch. As a former UT student, you can get tickets for the student section, which is right in front of Matthew McConaughey's box. I remember coming here my freshman year and thinking WOW. I recently came back for the home opener vs Louisiana Monroe. Things have changed. But I'm still thinking WOW. This stadium is one of the nicest college stadiums I have ever been to. I have visited the orange bowl in miami, OU's Gaylord Field, and UH's Robertson stadium and DKR puts them all to shame. This college stadium is as nice as many professional stadiums. I really like the new Red McCombs Red Zone with the food court. This food court is awesome because it actually takes Credit cards!!! This stadium has everything including Plucker's WINGS!!! Yes the cowboy's new screen outdoes the one at UT, but this thing is still nice. 100,000 screaming fans dressed in burnt orange, now that's the definition of awesome, then again I'm a bit biased. read more

I would like to first start off by saying I am not a sports fan except of hockey and MMA which I will watch every once in awhile. So take my review for what is worth. The stadium is one of the biggest stadiums in college football. However, comfort is not provided to cram every last person into this place. I was given free tickets which was nice and can't complain there. Most people in my section were standing which of course if I wanted to see what was going on required me to stand. Somewhat annoying. I also am use to having people walk around selling stuff at events like beer, hotdogs, etc. Nope never saw this at all. If you want overpriced food you had to crawl over everyone to get it. People would get pissy with you if you needed to get out of your row. Speaking of food, before the event I went online and discovered a huge variety of food at the stadium to include: chick fil A, subway, Starbucks, Amy ice cream, torchy's, etc. My hubby and I ended up with subway which was basically a premade sub on white bread (boo), with a few veggies, cheese and condiments tucked in its tray. It tasted about the same to when I was in the army and had to eat a half defrosted jimmy dean ham and cheese sandwich. Which if you don't know was soggy and gross. Maybe some will say that if you are drunk it isn't that bad. I was working on getting that to tolerate but I also don't like sitting next to people cramped on benches. Sorry longhorns. Some things I liked about the game was seeing Bevo (super cute longhorn), people watching, the milliennial who basically ended up paying us to have a drink at the food stand due to bad math skills, plenty of bathrooms that run somewhat efficient for a large stadium, & variety of food options. read more

It's not a surprise if you know me that I'm going to give this place 5 stars. You are in football heaven coming to this place.It's almost similar being in church. Here you are praising the team. The UT football players here come from small towns that you imagine are like Friday Night Lights, with Explosions in the Sky as your soundtrack, and they made it here. It's a mecca. You come here and the stadium is huge and you feel the buzz from the fans from all walks of life cheering. People here are civilized as I have been to other football games in other colleges which can definitely learn a thing or two from the Texas Longhorn fans. All though I bleed orange from moving here to Austin, I love that Austin has this great institution. Before you come to the stadium you see the most awesome tailgating ever. Texas fans know how to throw a tailgating party which I know I have to be a part of somehow. The stadium is clean and you have a big video board where you can see plays if you are far up in the stands also to remind you are at the University of Texas. Then there's the band, Bevo and Big Bertha drum. This is what football is all about! Texas knows football and this is the religion we live by! read more

Forget football for a moment here. I walked around DKR last Saturday before and after the Texas game and really looked at the facility. Ya know what we have here. A pretty damn nice football stadium. And heck we deserve it. The Texas football program funds so much more than just football. The beautifully colored brick corner columns and siding are...frankly, very elegant and classical looking. Ease of movement is good throughout the building. Of course the north end zone addition is awesome and the added capacity is a huge bonus for fans and the team. College football is so much more enjoyable than pro ball (too me) and being in this stadium and watching Texas play is a great spectacle. The crowd is generally very well behaved and is family friendly. Hooliganism can be fun and perhaps has its place but i prefer a respectful albeit supportive crowd. JumboTron - Just frickin' great with the exception of all the annoying advertising. But the cool University themed videos are moderately entertaining. Removing the natural grasss turf this year almost made me remove a star So i feel Texas proud to have this gem of a stadium to enjoy my college football. Go Horns ! read more

This was my first UT Game and Texans are very serious about their football! Be prepared to walk a fair distance to get to the stadium since they block off parking all around it for many blocks. There were tons of tailgaters and they were handing out programs on the way in which was cool. The stadium itself was very large however, it wasn't well marked when you were trying to figure out which ramp to use to access your seating section. We walked up and down and all around section one trying to figure it out. The ground level was well marked but, after that you had to find someone to ask. We finally found our way and located our row. I was happy to see the seats were benches and not the flip seats. It makes it easier to get in and out of the rows without disturbing others, at least in my opinion. Be prepared to stand a lot to be able to see because the fans are constantly on their feet! From where we were we could see Bevo which was really neat. He had his own little area with people scratching him, misters blowing on him and snacks! Bevo has the life! There seemed to be some issue with the sound because we were having a hard time hearing the calls from the refs. Either their mics weren't turned up or the sound system was just having difficulties in general. We had a great view of the entire stadium and of course the end zone and scoreboard. I enjoyed all the highlights they were showing and the snippet showing them getting Bevo ready for the game. In the opening show there was also a guy on a jet pack flying in the stadium! It's really quite the production here at the UT Game! We ate Hat Creek Burger and it was just ok. I really like their food but, here to keep up with demand they had the burgers pre done and in a hot box. Also, it was like $5.50 for one size drink and $6.00 for the larger one so, at that point you may as well get the larger size. Also, you should note that some of the food vendors do not take cards so, for people like me who don't carry cash; make sure you do if you go. The only other option is there is ATM's by the entrance but, that would have been a 20 minute walk back through the stadium. UT won and honestly I am normally an Ohio State fan but, this was a great game and a great team to watch! I would suggest taking and Uber ride to and from the stadium because that's what we did and it worked like a charm! We also left out at the beginning of the 4th quarter to beat the traffic and were glad that we did so. read more

Darrell Hall owns this stadium, and has deemed that all of the cheerleaders are "Maneaters" and that the one he was dating is gone: "She's gone." It's the only stadium in "USA's 10 biggest stadiums" that doesn't get a 5/5 from me. Yes it's absolutely enormous, but what can I say... the fact that one end is almost wide open annoys me. It also stops the atmosphere from being as loud and intense as it could be if the whole stadium was closed in and claustrophobic. It's an acoustics issue I guess. First-Hand Experience: Info on my personal visit to this stadium - Andrew T came to one of my Austin concerts (that almost nobody else did), and we went out for dinner at a hipster cafe afterwards. Neither the concert nor the cafe were great, but in between, we came to this stadium (at my request) and I really enjoyed visiting. It wasn't the best stadium I've seen, but I really enjoyed the guided tour. I have yet to see the Longhorns play here, and maybe when I experience that atmosphere my rating will go up to 5, but having seen the stadium empty from the inside on one occasion with Andrew, and on the outside about 10 times, I give it a 4. I've been to every cool stadium in the UK & North America, due to my obsession with travel & sport. I've toured America as a musician for 7 or 8 years. In that time, I've seen sports games at, or visited when empty (and usually both), at almost every major stadium in US and Canada. I have pictures of most which I will upload at some point. Also, on future travels, I plan to take new pix, and add more stadia! Watch this space! ***back to regular review*** I think that's why this stadium famously doesn't have an intense SEC atmosphere, and I think if they jazz up the "open end" where the TV screen is and create a full bowl then not only will they have 130k or so fans in there, but they'll have the loudest atmosphere in the worrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrld. I am a Spartan for life. I bleed green. I was wearing my State gear all day yesterday vs. our win against long-time rival, Michigan, in a sea of burnt orange and white. I felt Spartan pride from here to California to our home state of Michigan. It was glorious. We ended up scoring free tickets as we were wandering around the streets of the UT campus. Here is the conversation that transpired after tirelessly walking around trying to find an atm to get cash to scalp some tickets: Me: I'm exhausted. Let's just go to a bar and park it. Boyfriend: Yeah, you're right. People running across the street: Hey, you guys want to go to the game? They are awesome seats, 15th row. We're outta here. Us: Yeah! People running across the street: Here you go. GO GREEN! This stadium is amazing. It's clean, well laid out, and the atmosphere is electric. The fans are exciting and above all, polite, even if you are rooting for the opposite team. They have a variety of food and merchandise vendors - everything you'd expect from a top tier stadium. They have a big drum down on the field and every now and then, they bang the drum as many times as they have points. Not to mention, their mascot Bevo, is pretty bad ass. DKR is without a doubt one of the premier places to watch football EVER! One of the things that makes this stadium so great is that there is a balance between student and non-student sections. Whenever a school full of rich alumni expands its stadium, the college atmosphere is diminished making for large yet unintimidating venues, I'm looking at you Michigan. On the other hand, one can still enjoy the game without needing to be a rowdy student. You will get an excellent view of the game regardless of your seat and you will have a blast whether you are noisy or not. The stadium is also very accessible, I've gotten upper deck seats while being in a foot cast and the escalators and elevators got me there with minimal stress. Best stadium on earth!!! Mostly because the Horns play here. Also, it's easy to get in and out (with so many gates and people coming at various times, no long lines). Food is reasonably priced, and the seats are actually quite comfortable (unless you sit in the student section, then be prepared for bleacher seating, standing the whole game, and sometimes even kids crowding in when it's not their seat). Every time the Longhorns are in town, it's going to be crowded in downtown Austin. My friend and I went when they played Kansas last season. The parking is sometimes hard because you have to walk a country mile to your car. We parked in a $25 lot and ended up walking around most of the campus until we got to the stadium. But it's usually clustered in Austin every weekend, so be ready for that. The seating inside the stadium is pretty good. There are a TON of bleacher seats on the main concourse, and you can buy chairs to tape to the bleachers for about $6. You can even walk by where the players come in every game before they go to the locker room. In that area, they have a lot of restaurants you can have for yourself while you're waiting for the stadium gates to open. You can walk around to the statues of Ricky Williams, Vince Young, and even Darrell Royal. They are located on the side with the jumbo tron, and the band usually makes their rounds that way. Tons of pictures to take on that end of the stadium, and a good view of the field if you happen to have a seat near the end zone. They have concessions, food everywhere for sale, good surround sound, and a loud student section. Normally, the cannon is pretty loud whenever they score, so be ready for that about every 10 minutes (especially when it's a mediocre team they're playing). The staff at the stadium is friendly, and they will help you with whatever you need. I think I might come back for another Longhorn game to experience the university, and see how a more competitive game is here at the stadium. read more

Texas! Fight! I saw my first UT Football game in 1977 at this stadium. I did not know how many football future greats were on that team because I was too young, but i was there. I've see some great games here over the years and I still treasure this place. The history with time just continues to grow.
