    0kay . . . so I debated for a while about doing this review . . . I mean who really wants to hear…read moreabout my colonoscopy? But then I decided you're going to hear about it anyway. So with the pandemic and all, alongside my own procrastination, I scheduled first colonoscopy about half a decade later than I probably should have. Not so much because of the nature of the procedure itself. I've had much more awkward procedures. (I chose not to review my kidney stone removal.) It was simply my lead feet and resistance in accepting I've reached "that age". That being said, it was all pretty innocuous. The post procedure was easy enough. Drink some (not so terrible tasting) stuff the evening before followed by lots of clear liquids. (I'm purposely skipping some important details here.) Then repeat in the morning. The procedure itself was pretty unmemorable as well, literally and figuratively. The last thing I remember was hoping the anesthesia works and the next thing was someone asking if I wanted a Coke to drink. (Skipping some details of the results . . . . for your benefit, but there was nothing bad, just the usual I guess.) Overall it was a "good \_ 0_/ experience" and I have nothnegative to say about it. I do apologize fore the images I included with the review, although I thought they were hilarious at the time . . . . and the only other photos I have are the ones they gave me of the procedure and I don't think anyone wants to see those.

They provided clear instructions and corrected me when necessary. Columbia facility is well-equipped and flow through is well-organized. My care direction was respected. Scheduling is a bit tight but an automated waiting list helped. So far (weeks since) I did not experience any of the billing issues reported by others.

    Incompetent and rude office staff. They called me less than 24 hours before an appointment that had…read morebeen scheduled over a month before, to ask for a referral that's required for said appointment. I got my Primary Care office to send one over within an hour and they never bothered to check it. When I got to the appt, they 1) misgendered me and 2) told me the referral "doesn't work" because it's missing information they never asked for. They had almost an entire day to contact my Primary Care office to ask for the referral to be fixed but because of pure laziness they chose to waste my time. What's worse, is after they told me the referral won't be accepted they said "we have a 15 minute grace period..." like I was going to be able to get my Primary Care office on the phone and a new referral sent over in under 15 minutes. That's asinine. The receptionist was flat out heartless.

    Unprofessional and Unresponsive Care This is the second time…read moreI've had to write a review about the poor service at this clinic, and unfortunately, it seems nothing has changed. My first experience involved a serious medication error where my prescription was mixed up with another patient's. Despite calling numerous times and clearly explaining the issue, it took them two full days to correct it. That was frustrating enough. Now, I've been without my medication for 7 days and have made multiple attempts over the last four days to get a simple prescription refill. I've spoken with two different staff members and asked repeatedly for either a manager or Dr. Abernathy to contact me--no one has followed up. The receptionist, whose attitude was cold and dismissive, clearly showed no sense of urgency or empathy. Instead of helping, she pushed me off to Ms. Kia, Dr. Abernathy's coordinator or assistant. I left multiple messages for her, and none of them were returned. I even contacted the Miami-based call center, where I was told for a second time that my request would be "expedited." But when I asked what "expedited" meant, no one could provide a timeline or answer--it was just another empty promise. This has now been repeated with no action taken. To make matters worse, my pharmacy also reached out directly and spoke with a staff member named Nya, who again did absolutely nothing to move the process forward. There is no accountability, no urgency, and certainly no adherence to the basic Patients' Bill of Rights. As my condition worsens each day without the needed medication, I am deeply concerned for my health and frustrated by the clinic's indifference. As a public servant and former medical professional, I find this level of care deeply troubling and unacceptable. I would never treat any patient with such neglect or disregard. Medical professionals are expected to operate with compassion, competence, and integrity--none of which were displayed here. To be clear, this review is not directed at Dr. Abernathy personally, but the ongoing failure of his staff reflects poorly on the entire practice. That this is the second time I've had to write about such experiences shows that these issues are not isolated incidents--they are part of a larger pattern of dysfunction and poor patient care.     I visited Dr. Heyer to evaluate a blood clot and to determine if I should stay on Coumadin. My…read moreprevious doctor had kept me on Coumadin for 3 years. Dr. Heyer made a thorough evaluation, ordered numerous diagnostic tests, and tested my progress on and off the medicine. He also checked blood clotting factors. Dr. Heyer made numerous calls to radiologists to confirm and evaluate their opinions, and he let me know all the results of these discussions. He spent a lot of time with me, as I had numerous complications from the clot and/or medicine. He provided his opinions but listened to everything I said very carefully. He also spent a great deal of office time evaluating my case. Ultimately, he recommended I discontinue Coumadin. My leg and ankle have felt great since I stopped using it. I highly recommend Dr. Heyer. He's a great listener and doer who cares about the patient. And he is very fast with follow-up.

After talking with me and studying new blood test results, Dr. Heyer thought that I had liver disease. He told me he couldn't know for sure because he isn't a liver specialist. He made the correct diagnosis. I truly believe that no one else could have figured out what was wrong. He continues to stay in touch with me and my other specialists. I feel truly blessed and lucky that I found Dr. Heyer and that he took such an interest in my medical needs. I was also impressed with the other staff in his office. I saw several people walk in, say hello to the office staff by name (they also knew the patients by name), and continue to the back of the office. Everyone seemed very happy and they were very friendly to me.

    On the morning of August 21, I needed to find a gastroenterologist and located Dr. Raja M. Din…read more Because I had a concern, I wanted an appointment as soon as I could make one. Dr. Din's office uses an online appointment service called Zocdoc, which indicated there was an opening at 3:20pm on the same day, which I made. I had to create a Zocdoc account, log in, provide copies of my insurance card and other information. The appointment was made and off I went to work meetings. I left my last meeting early in order to get to his office in the middle of an ill-timed downpour. I finally make it to his office at 3:05pm, glad that I got there early. Within a few minutes I was called to the counter and told by a staff member that I did NOT have an appointment. Zocdoc was mistaken that the time slot was available ("sometimes it does that", I was told) and they absolutely did not have any other openings. Sorry, no appointment. She also told me I should have called first to confirm. How many times do I need to confirm an appointment? They use an appointment service that fails to work properly and it's my fault Zocdoc was incorrect about the opening? If I was in the system (apparently they knew I was coming) why not contact me, since my phone number was provided. Somebody dropped the ball on their end. Either they weren't updating Zocdoc or the service failed on its own. Other doctors' officers sure have been able to contact me when a change is made to a schedule. I'm not sure if his office staff really understand how frustrating it can be when their system fails. Patients (and potential patients) often have to make big changes to their work day or other commitments to come to the doctors office, some of us must take leave. It is generally condescending to be asked "can we make an appointment for you for another day?" knowing they made a big mistake; not to mention I'm standing there soaking wet after running in the heavy rain. I was there because of a health concern, not to schedule a casual visit. No way would I make another appointment since my time and health are too valuable. I can't review the doctor's own service because their system failed before I had the chance to see him.
