We've stayed here several times and enjoy the serenity and lovely vistas. However it is not a place that everyone will like. One of the more vexing issues is that they will not assign a room or cottage to you ahead of time so it is difficult to get exactly what you need. For instance, we were traveling with an older couple and we requested a cottage with no steep stairs. They did not accommodate this request. Our friends managed to navigate the stairs but it was far from ideal and we were concerned the whole time. Our cabin also had a steep decent. It was nice but the heating system made quite a bit of noise and I had trouble getting to sleep. The golf course was in fine shape and not crowded at all. There are a number of recreational opportunities on the grounds as well as a nice museum regarding the maritime history of the lake. We really enjoyed the many options at the buffet breakfast especially the made to order omelet station. It is an old timey type place where you have to go with the flow and accept imperfections.

The place is old and dated. The grounds are nice with beautiful gardens and you are on a lake. They have a pool, tennis courts, outside toys for kids, a dog park, golf course, hiking and biking trails, and charging station for an electric car. We stayed in a cabin and it was very dated , but clean and comfortable, I felt that I was on a camping trip, also no TV , Cell service is poor to none. They do provide Internet . They also have a halfway decent fitness center . The staff was friendly and helpful. Unless you are looking for an adventure , don't stay here

Basin harbor is heaven on earth for me and my family! I have been there every single year of my life for a two week summer vacation. All the rooms are beautiful, many of them with a lake view. The grounds are very well maintained- there are so many beautiful gardens. There is a new fitness center, great day camp programs for kids, the lake, the pool, the tennis courts, the golf course. The food is amazing!!! And after dinner you can head over to the red mill for drinks an dancing. The service is so attentive and accommodating. It is all about the guest at BHC. Just call the front desk and they will have the answer or get it for you. BHC has been home to so many of my family's greatest memories. I would recommend it to anyone- newlyweds, families, older couples, young kids, older kids. There is really something for everyone!

Iconic Adirondack chairs all over property in several sizes! the resort is also beyond dog friendly; private dog beach, pet care

Basin Harbor is a piece of heaven. The views of Lake Champlain and the NY Adirondacks are absolutely stunning any time of year and make an unbeatable backdrop for events (especially weddings!). Food in the Main Dining Room is complimented by an extensive wine list and stunning panoramic views of the harbor. Menu changes seasonally based on local bounty and seasonal flavors. The restaurant is open to the public; which not many people know. Golf is also superb down at Basin Harbor Club, no freeways or busy streets interrupting the peaceful game. The resort offers golf memberships at their public course. The Red Mill is a casual gastro-pub on the property as well; lots of local microbrews on tap and really good food. Must haves: stuffed oysters, Button Point sandwich, Basin Harbor Ale and Cheddar soup.

    Perfect spot for breakfast!

Waspy-- or as waspy as Vermont can be. It's ranked top historic inns in the U.S. The Ambiance was super rustic and I loved it. The fireplace, basket with apples, pumpkins and hay stacks, porch swings, and the smell of green mountain coffee roasting was the best. I had a small one bed cabin on lake Champlain to myself. It had a working fireplace with a fire starter and a bag of popcorn to get your night off to a good start. The inn has no TV's so don't expect to catch any Sunday night football here. Gift shop has a lot of cool.. Expensive things. I did pick up a baseball cap for $50.

Amazing food! Superb service! Entire property recently renovated. We have been here 3 of the last 4 summers and always love it. Btw, they are very dog friendly

Nice place, very family oriented, so bring the kids. If no kids, there are a few places you can escape too, but need to search.

The room has a delightful 'outdoorsy' decor, a large and luxurious bathroom, and a private patio abutting a little birch forest. The bed and the bedding were very comfortable. The common rooms and the dining rooms of the main house were spacious and tastefully decorated. The breakfast was fresh and flavorful, with an egg dish, a sweet side, and fresh fruit every morning. There were no choices when it came to breakfast, which may be a turn-off for some people. The location of the Inn with respect to downtown Vergennes is a big plus. Several local restaurants, many of the city's historic sights, and charming shops are one-half to three-quarters of a mile walk away. The weather was beautiful, and my husband and I enjoyed strolling to and through the city many times. We had a very enjoyable stay at the Inn, and would recommend it as a relaxing and beautiful Vermont place to stay.

I felt ripped off, especially since AAA Automoble Club has rated this establishment with three stars. They will hear from me. Positives first: friendly owner/manager; pretty public area with dining room nicely furnished in old style Queen Anne and Chipendale; host provided a lovely hot breakfast; there were plenty of brochures for sight-seeing attractions in the area. Negatives: Sofa in manager's office was stacked with shopping bags and large plastic bins, making for an unfavorable first impression at check-in. Very small room furnished from granny's attic; the "twin beds" were actually a king bed whose headboard and footboard had been sawed in half. Air conditioning did not work (or was set at a warm temperature) and when we opened the window to try to get some air we found the window sill and window casing paint was badly chipped and should have been scraped and painted 15 years ago (see picture). Floors were dirty; white bathroom door had yellowed from years of smudged finger prints (see picture). In an old house you can expect to see door stops at the floor to hold doors open, but never before had I seen a fire extinguisher used as a door stop (see picture). This place is struggling and I am sorry to post this negative information. I would not have stayed here for one third the price had I known in advance.

If you are looking for a real Vermont experience, The Moose Meadow Lodge is a great start to the journey. At the very least, you'll have a very comfortable stay. Greg and Willie will go above and beyond to make sure your overall visit to Vermont is worthwhile. We decided to travel to Vermont last minute for New Year's Eve. We booked the Moose Meadow Lodge on the drive up. We were welcomed with open arms. Greg showed us around the property, the lobby shop, brought us to our room and explained all the unique and exciting details of the house and property. We woke up each morning to a beautifully prepared breakfast. Since our trip was so last minute, we didn't have much of a plan. Greg was kind enough to sit down with us and help us map out our entire journey. He even helped us map an alternate route home that was more scenic. We didn't get to everything on the list, but everything he mentioned was perfect. You can tell he has a genuine love and passion for what he does. His advice and planning alone made the experience excellent. I can go on and on about the perfect stay we had. You can tell Greg and Willie are very passionate about what they do. You will never experience this kind of attention and care at a hotel. We are already planning our next stay here.

The staff was warm and friendly. I only have one criticism. While the A/C was working, we had difficulty regulating it to feel comfortable. It was rather cold and clammy at night, but by morning, we felt fine. It wasn't so much the cold part that bothered me, but the clammy part was what got to me. Everyone kept saying how unseasonably hot and humid it was for Stowe, so who knows... maybe the A/C just had difficulty regulating itself... or we didn't know how to use it properly. It wasn't bad, per se, but it was a little uncomfortable some of the time. The room overall, though, was really great. Also, we loved that they had Netflix and Amazon Prime, so we could settle into the shows we were missing while traveling. That was a nice surprise ! Most hotels don't offer any of that. We had planned to dine out at one of the local restaurants, but we found out they were serving dinner at Grant's, the inn's restaurant. We were tired after traveling around all day, so we stayed at the inn and ate a great meal at Grant's. (See separate review for that.) Also, the common areas in the main building next to the restaurant are very tastefully appointed, spacious, with lots of games, books and sitting areas for people to utilize. We walked around them to see what there was but returned to our room to relax and watch some of our shows. My only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. One night in Stowe just isn't enough, especially at the Stowe Village Inn. Let's hope there will be a next time !

We had plans to ski nearby Gore Mountain but the wind and a -40 degree windchill kept us from the slopes. This turn of events left us with more time than we expected at the lodge. Lucky for us, there were plenty of available on-site activities to keep us cozy and entertained. Highlights included: - Indoor heated pool & jacuzzi: What a luxury in the dead of winter! Spacious indoor area with large windows to house their pool, kiddie pool, and jacuzzi. Lounge chairs, tables, etc. Ample supply of pool towels, easy access to bathrooms, and separate changing areas so you don't have to walk through the lodge in your suit. - On-site activities: Board games available with ample seating near a fireplace. Large bar area. Group activities like bingo. The list goes on. - Comfortable rooms with useful amenities: Large televisions (great as the Olympics were on!), soft beds, mini fridge, Keurig, and the like. - Proximity to Downtown Schroon Lake: Although there was dining available on-site, it was nice to have a number of restaurants to select from 5 minutes down the road (and a stellar view of the frozen lake anytime you're pulling out of their property). - Hot drinks & snacks: I enjoyed some free cookies and hot beverages available in their lobby and main bar area on several occasions. Speaking of their property, the drive in among their towering trees is impressive. Lots of variety in the type of accommodation you can book. Ample parking. Great with snow removal and ensuring guests can get in and out. Staff were very helpful. Only snafu we encountered was right at check in. The heater in our first room sounded like a jet engine taking off with an incurable rattle. It was late but the front desk was very responsive and moved us to another room. Unfortunately, the room was quite a trek and was only accessible via stairs (which was a bummer as we had quite a few things we needed to drag in). To our delight, on trip 2 to our vehicle, the front desk stopped us and offered a 3rd but much closer room that became available after a last minute cancellation (which we gladly accepted). They didn't have to do that but we really appreciated them keeping us in mind. We were also granted a slight extension on checkout given our change in plans. Would definitely stay here again!
