After nearly five months of living in the Florida Keys, I have finally come around to writing a review for Help Yourself. The cafe caters to juicers/ raw foodies/vegans/vegetarians and the occasional fish consumer. All meals that I have ordered are made fresh and taste wonderful. They tend to use many local veggies and fruits and have a great section of wraps and salads. As with everything in Key West, expect to pay more than you would in say Chicago or New York for a meal. The meals are well-portioned and the wraps come in half and whole sizes. I highly recommend the tempeh wrap and the tempeh salad. The staff is pretty friendly and the seating, although somewhat limited, is cozy. Definitely worth a stop for those who are looking to escape the dozens of typical bar tourist stops that surround the area. read more

Key West seems to specialize in converting gas stations into food stands. I saw several, but Help Yourself is special, dishing up organic fare plus vegan and gluten free dishes. There are creative salads and wraps with healthy items like chickpeas, quinoa, carrots, raisins, almonds, goji berries and avocado. There are a handful of hot times, too, like coconut curry and vegetarian Korean BBQ. But I stopped in on a steamy afternoon for a Berry Bliss smoothie. It was delicious, made with organic frozen fruit and organic apple juice, but at $8, all that health comes with a price. If you're looking for this type of food, seek out Help Yourself. Everything on the menu is fully vegan with the exception of a few items with eggs, so it was great to choose from so many options! We got the breakfast burrito (tempeh instead of eggs), the breakfast bagel (also sub tempeh) and another bagel with vegan cream cheese. Super unimpressed by this place. It's very 1980's SF attitude vegan. Pre-made smoothies. Super hippie attitude cashier. It has that "We are the only vegan place in town and we are better than you" attitude. Come on guys. You can do better than this. Vegan is not something unique any more. Healthy and nice place to go to while at Key West. You order inside the store and then wait in the patio for your food. The only downside is that its pretty hot outside (went in early september). I had the acai bowl along with a coffee macchiato, delicious! The acai bowl is pretty big but super refreshing. My friend had the tuna wrap and says it was great too! read more

This is my second time coming here. When I came in April, the staff was friendly, this time the lady ringing out was really slow. The food is good but lacks flavor (think un marinated tempeh pan fried in oil). It's not bad, it's just that The Cafe (next to Mr. Z's) is so much better. Oatmeal power bowl and avocado toast both very good. Fresh squeezed orange juice was yummy. Portions on the small side so you may want to order 2 things per person. Such a great gluten option, off the beaten path in Key West. I had a green tea, and a gluten free breakfast wrap. The wrap was delicious! It had egg, a special sauce, avocado and greens. I was so pleased, I ordered a smoothie to go. The tables outside are fantastic. They are planters in the middle with fresh herbs and greens growing. All of their to go containers are compostable and green. Inside they have a shop with teas, drinks and groceries. Perfect for stocking up to take back to your room or home. What a golden find in key west! I happened upon this place randomly while walking back to my hotel. This place has all my favorite healthy brands! They have a lovely little grocery store with packaged and fresh items for purchase. They also have Anne extensive coffee bar, smoothie, juice and food menu. This is one of the best breakfast place EVER!! I came here twice when I was in keywest! Usually I tried something and someplace new everyday whenever I'm on vacation but this place was just too good to pass on it. We always got the açaí bowl. This was delicious!!! So yummy tat I need to recommend to anyone going to keywest( it had iced berry smoothie on the bottom, with goji berry, coconut flakes, granola flakes and chocolate flakes. The Island Burrito was delicious! I had the Pink Lady and the hubs had the Sweet Green Juice, both very tasty. I have never had such a yummy vegan meal before. Awesome little spot in the old downtown of Key West. It's both an organic grocery store and a brunch place. Most of the dishes are vegetarian but there are also a few options with chicken and tuna (wraps, sandwiches). Their salads are very fresh with lots of super grains and kale - you see what I mean. Anyway I like that thing. Portions are actually feeling too. Order at the counter and then sit on their charming little outdoor patio until they call your name. Nice smoothies selection. Such a cute little cafe off the busy Duval Street. It served the freshest and most delicious sandwiches and wraps. It's tough to find healthy vegetarian food on the island that isn't just your basic "pizza" and "pasta". Almost every chicken wrap has mayo, so if you don't care for mayo but you want animal Protein, look elsewhere. There are literally no meats at all on the breakfast menu. None. Two breakfast wraps with chicken added and three smoothes came to $70. read more

Coming back to the States after a year, I was surprised with a number of organic restaurants and cafes and their quality. I have never had a smothies with cilantro, but if you are a cilantro lover, gotta try this smothie. If you aren't, try other smothies. Done deal. First time I went I had the tuna wrap which was so flavorful. Loved it. The second time I ordered the Thai curry bowl with chicken. It was very bland and the chicken was dry and over cooked to the point it was kind of laughable that it was served. The smoothies I've had are delicious, but they are $10. It seems pretty pricey for a smoothie. I feel it's generally overpriced for the small amount of food you receive. I'm hesitant to visit again because I don't know if it will be worth it next time. I do appreciate that you can actually get food that is fresh, not fried and greasy and generally good for you. That's hard to find around key west sometimes. read more
