Dauphine's

A New Orleans-inspired creole-style restaurant that features a huge space on multiple levels, a private dining room, 2 covered outdoor spaces, as well as a garden for an outdoor private event. This place is beautiful! The two bars in the center of the room are framed by, what reminded me of a train station platform. Structurally beautiful centerpiece of the room. One side is the bar and the other side is the raw bar.
Lively music like Mardi Gras included "Don't Mess With My Man" by Irma Thomas, "King Cake" by Big Al Carson, and "Do Yourself a Favor" by Otis McDonald. Upbeat NOLA jazz.
Alex was my server and Helene was training. I also met John, the server upstairs during an exploration.
Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable of the menu, Alex gave detailed descriptions, best-seller tips, personal favorites, and recommendations to navigate the menu. She called it a "two visit place" because you have to come back and try the other dishes you didn't get to try this time, and bring a friend for those dishes that serve two! I want the Grand Plateaux seafood tower! But that's a lot of food.
To start with a cocktail, I had to go in for a New Orleans staple: a Hurricane. Guava, Passionfruit, and Hibiscus, it was just sweet enough without being over the top. When I ordered a second, Alex called the second a "category 2, you don't want to get to category 5." Very clever!
Bread service: mini baguette perfectly crunchy on the outside, tender and moist inside. Buttermilk biscuit: flaky layers of moistness. And the sweet potato brioche reminded me of French toast. With the butter and red onion jam, it is required eating!
For the appetizer, it was very difficult to decide between the Peel & Eat Gulf Shrimp Cocktail (as a lover of shrimp cocktails) from the Raw Bar menu, or the Shrimp Remoulade. I ordered the Shrimp Remoulade to try something new, but Alex brought me BOTH! She gave me the COLOSSAL shrimp cocktail for free!
The Shrimp Remoulade: Alex told me that it was written about in "Garden and Gun" magazine, a periodical from where the lady chef hails near New Orleans. I intentionally mentioned that she is a lady to combat the male dominated world that needs to be taken to heel to a surpassingly impressive chef! The egg salad, iceberg wedge "bowl," baby shrimp salad with horseradish remoulade, fresh herbs, and a little cayenne to say hello, and garnished with edible flowers. It was as beautiful as it was delicious! Perfectly balanced with sweet heat between the cayenne and the shrimp and egg. You MUST eat this!!
As I mentioned, at the same time Alex also brought the Peel & Eat colossal shrimp! Free! Heads up: they are head on and not deveined... For those that might bother... But lord have mercy for the sight of those 5 colossal shrimp!!'
I was initially torn for my entree between the Dirty Rice & Duck Stuffed Quail and the Grilled Sea Scallop Amandine, but after getting BOTH of the appetizers, I figured the lighter dish would be best so I went with the scallops. Scallops are a very delicate seafood that is so easy to overlook in a split instant, but these were absolutely perfect!! Melt in your mouth perfect with butter and celery root purée. I've never had a scallop dish like this that included haricot vert and sliced, toasted almonds, but I was pleasantly surprised at the flavor combinations: sweet seafood, earthy veg, the nuts were all very complementary to each other. Get a bite of them all together!
For dessert, again I struggled to decide because I wanted to try everything, but again, after bread and 3 courses, I opted for lighter fare and also, I HAD to go in for the Beignets. They are a New Orleans staple!! They came three in the bowl with my own powdered sugar shaker to dust them myself. Accompanied with a glass of Benedictine it was the perfect end to the meal.
But then I asked for the check and Alex brought out complimentary pecan pralines with the check. One last sweet bite to cap things off!
I had seen this place with window vinyls covering the space for literally YEARS in anticipation of its opening. And finally I came a year AFTER it finally opened, unaware that it finally did. Covid. But wow. This place has spectacular service from host to check, from water to dessert. YOU HAVE TO EAT HERE!!! read more
