Excellent cocktails with a wide variety to choose from - we weren't disappointed in anything we tried. Boudin and the fish dip were delicious - accompanied with some homemade(I think?) saltines. We came here on a Thursday evening during restaurant week and it was packed so I definitely recommend making a reservation far ahead of time. There were lots of great options for restaurant week meals- our favorites were the bacon wrapped pork loin, the catfish, the ube cheesecake, and the lobster fritters. The braised beef shank and the chicken gumbo were just ok and we weren't fans of the sauce on the mussels. The service was also not the best- there were 6 of us and they consistently brought out 5 dishes at a time and then we would have to wait for 5-10 mins before they would bring out the 6th person's dish with every single course. read more

I want to preface this review stating that Dauphines has a Michelin star and this review is based off the expectation of service and food equivalent to such. I went to Dauphines with a group for brunch. We were a party of 8. The restaurant itself is very aesthetic with beautiful plants and tasteful decor. It sets a very nice ambiance. When we ordered our drinks, two members of our party ordered teas. They asked for the status of the tea 3 times before the tea was brought with the main course well after the rest of us were served our starters and drinks. The tea was just a cup of hot water with a teabag served on the side so i am not sure why it took 30+ minutes. We got the bread as an appetizer and it was amazing. So delicious I would definitely recommend. Everyone's food was delicious. The manager was very attentive and I appreciate his coming by. We had little issue with the check. The menu says it's automatically included in the check for parties greater than 6 which we were, but then it wasn't. We ended up asking the waitress who confirmed that it was not in fact automatically included. Overall I would recommend this place for a cute brunch. read more

Excellent experience at Dauphine's! I stopped by here for a quick dinner during their happy hour while in the area. I was quickly seated at the bar upon arrival and greeted by friendly bartenders. I ended up ordering the burger and crab and artichoke dip and a Diet Coke. The crackers that came with the dip were wonderfully buttery and flaky all on their own. They paired perfectly with the cheesy dip, which was generously loaded with crab meat. The burger was juicy and tasty and came with a side of house made chips and small pile of pickle slices. The bartender served a mini glass bottle of Diet Coke and poured it into a beautiful glass for me. When the bartender discovered I was visiting the area for a dance convention, he helpfully suggested other popular places for dancing in the area and interesting spots to check out. My favorite part of Dauphine's was the service. It was lovely, and they really emulate Southern, Louisianan hospitality. The server was so nice to us the entire night and gave great recommendations. So let start with the atmosphere. It was absolutely stunning. It felt like a hip underground trolley station to me. Very worth of brunch! The meals were greatly portion for a full belly experience. Both the entrée and appetizers were plentiful, flavorful, and pleasing to the tongue. The drinks were made with a well balance between being strong yet with flavor! Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. The decorations and ambiance were amazing! However, the food and the wait staff were lackluster, especially considering it was supposed to feature NOLA-inspired cuisine. I ordered the beef and sweet potato hash, which consisted of cubed beef and cubed sweet potatoes, topped with a collard green chimichurri sauce and a poached egg. The egg was poached perfectly; however, nothing else had any flavor, not even a hint of seasoning. At the very least, the beef should have been seasoned before cooking and cutting. The chimichurri also lacked flavor. There were a few of us, and everyone, excluding the birthday girl, shared the same opinion about the food and the lack of seasoning. I ordered some beignets for dessert, and they were delicious. I liked the little shaker that came with them, allowing you to add your own powdered sugar. I also appreciated that the manager, or possibly the owner, came by to get our opinion on the food and service. Highly recommend! My friends surprised me for dinner here to celebrate my birthday and I'm so glad they did! The food, service, ambience (decor + setup) and drinks were all so good! We shared the oysters and bread service -- both were delicious! Everyone who knows me know that I loveeee oysters! So I was pleased. Dauphine's is a knockout of a restaurant, located just around the block from the Westin City Center where I was staying, so perfect walking distance. Being a fan of New Orleans-style cuisine, Dauphine's certainly fits the bill that I wasn't expecting during my stay in DC. I managed to grab a bar stool at the stylish open-area bar counter, which is surrounded by booth seating on one side and the lower-level dining area on the other. The ceilings are high but with acoustics that don't drown out the sound. The service at the bar was reasonably fast, given I arrived around 7:30 in the evening. For dinner, I took advantage of the three-course meal special for about $58. Out of the options for each of the courses, I went with the crab hush puppies, which were delightful, while the bacon-wrapped pork loin with creole mustard cream was delicious. Finishing with the chocolate and pears was an excellent conclusion to the meal that wasn't too heavy and had the right balance of sweetness and fruitiness. Cocktail-wise, I tried a wide range of selections, starting with the Dauphine's Martini, which was quite lovely with its anise aromas and full-bodied, navy-strength gin. Given my taste for NOLA-originated cocktails, I followed up the martini with the New Orleans Fire, which is a "fiery" blend of bourbon, amaro, ginger, and habanero. That cocktail certainly brought some nice heat but also some excellent sweetness. Given that I had enjoyed it at the Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone in the French Quarter, I also enjoyed the Vieux Carré, one of the only rye-based cocktails I order again and again immensely. If you're staying in the City Center or further west in the Georgetown area, it's worth coming over to the Dauphine to enjoy their NOLA-styled fare and cocktails. read more

Dauphine's is what happens when Cajun comfort food meets a Prohibition-era costume party and somehow it mostly works. First off, the vibe: full-on speakeasy energy, dim lighting, and that "you better look like you belong here" atmosphere. And you kind of do. Dress decent. Not because it's fancy fancy, but because there are a lot of overdressed people walking around acting like they invented buttons. The place attracts a weird mix of "date night classy" and "professional a-hole in loafers," so do yourself a favor and show up looking put together. Food-wise, the Cajun menu delivers. Big flavors, solid execution, and the kind of richness you expect when a kitchen isn't afraid of butter, spice, or joy. The bar is the real star though. Every drink we had was a straight 10/10. No misses, no weak pours, no "bartender got distracted by their own personality." Speaking of the bartender: super nice, but also had the kind of street-smart energy that makes you feel safer crossing the street afterward. Like if anything went sideways outside, they'd handle it without spilling a drop. Only real heartbreak: no Mr. Pibb. I know it's a small thing, but some of us have standards and they're cola-shaped. Bonus win: we had $150 in credit card credit, so the whole night felt gloriously free. Drinks? Free. Food? Free. Judgmental overdressed crowd? Unfortunately still included at no extra cost. We came as a group to celebrate, during one of the live jazz brunches. I definitely recommend a reservation during brunch time. Once our entire party arrived we were seated and water quickly brought out. We did drinks and I got the a few plates for the table, the bread basket, pommes dauphine, and fried boudin balls. The bread basket and fried boudin were a hit. The pommes dauphine wasn't bad, but it was very mushy and the consensus was this wouldn't be something ordered again. For entrees there was a mix of the chicken and waffles, blackened catfish creole, crab cake, beef and sweet potato hash, and the traditional breakfast. There were no complaints in the house except for the beef and sweet potato hash. The hit dishes to definitely try are the chicken and waffles and blackened catfish creole. The waffle almost tasted like a funnel cake in waffle form. For dessert we did the bananas foster baked Alaska and that was strong! I don't think the alcohol burned off all the way so it was like a shot in a dessert. Overall, we had a really great time and majority of the dishes were really good. I had a delicious tequila-based cocktail. They have a unique selection of house made cocktails. It seemed like the classic Hurricanes were most popular based on what I saw the waiters carrying around. Highlights included the crudo toast appetizer, the broiled oysters, and bbq shrimp. For my main, I had the mushroom stuffed chicken. It was delicious. The cauliflower that came with the chicken was my favorite. It was so fresh! We had a great time. To celebrate my daughter's 30th birthday (milestone and special), she wanted to go to a jazz brunch. Selected the restaurant for it's rating and menu. Hum. Was extremely excited to try this place and ended up not eating anything at all. The service was atrocious over the phone. For context: my roommate decided to surprise me with food from Dauphine's after a long day of work. She brought home collard greens and red beans & rice which the server had assured her were vegetarian. I haven't eaten meat in 22 years and so I wanted to call and clarify just to be sure as I know both dishes are generally cooked with sausage & pork. When I called, I received some of the worst customer service of my life. I explained the situation and was met with "well... look it up on our website." I politely responded I had the website pulled up and the menu had no designations on what was vegetarian and what was not. Only what was gluten free. The person on the phone then proceeded to tell me that they were busy and that I would need to come in and ask the chef. I refused stating that was asking a lot for me to drive across town to just ask a question. The person got ruder and asks, "well what DON'T you eat?" I responded, "I'm vegetarian so I don't eat meat, specifically land animals". I went on to say what my roommate brought home and mentioned I knew red beans & rice is usually made with sausage... Person: Yes it does. Me: Okay... she also brought home the collard greens which I know is usually made with pork. (I get cut off by the person) Person: Yes it does. Anything else? I said no and our conversation ended. Needless to say, I will NEVER visit not recommend this place to anyone due to the abysmal service I received over the phone where I was made to feel as if my concerns were not valid and that I was wasting the person's time when I was a customer. One of our coworkers lives in the Roslyn area & while she's never been it was highly recommended to her from others. We ordered appetizers for the table which included bread service, charred broccoli salad, & Brussels sprouts I don't really drink much but I do enjoy a good mock tail so I had the Anita Garibaldi which had Martini & Rossi Vibrante, grapefruit soda, citrus oil. It was very refreshing and tasty. For dinner I didn't have many options as there was only 1 vegetarian meal. While I was highly skeptical & disappointed with only having one option. I had the Ricotta cavatelli root vegetable ragu, stracciatella. I was pleasantly surprised as they did a good job with it as it was so good & just the right portion size. Every one enjoyed their dinner my coworkers the meat eaters had the quail, short ribs, pork loins, & yellow fin tuna. We tried various deserts on the menu Beignets, king cake bread pudding, strawberry shortcake, chocolate pears, & Vietnamese coffee cheesecake. All of the desserts were so good but the Vietnamese & strawberry shortcake cheesecakes were my favorite. This place is great I highly recommend. We got take out here near the end of the year. Maybe we couldn't have the duck jambalaya (not available for take out), which seem to be the star (?). And maybe because we got take out, all we can really evaluate closely is the food, which was fine (small portions). We tried a few dishes - rabbit, steak, grits, and the po' boy. They were all ok. Nothing spectacular, which makes me less inclined to return in the future at their price point/portion size for (key point:) food alone. I try to eat it soon after getting it (the way chefs usually want), and I also ate it a day later on reheating... of course the fresh tasting is a bit better, but not too much, so it's good to know it retains the flavor on reheating. But it definitely didn't keep long because there wasn't much in each big takeout box. Maybe it's to mimic what it woulda been on the plate - big plate and a little bit of food. On the bright side, serving size probably great for portion control (seriously, because it's too easy to overeat). However, the service (for take out) and ambiance of the place (when we picked up) was wonderful. Even with a PACKED restaurant, the servers were courteous and not taking their stress (I imagine it's super stressful with a full house!) out on customers. It's a great space and vibe for romantic dates, company outings. So, for that, I can see why folks like to return. They have a large bar in the middle of the restaurant with very attentive, friendly, and fun bartenders who mixed up great drinks for us - The New Orleans Fire was a favorite. They have more formal seating behind the bar and covered patio seating on both sides of the restaurant. We enjoyed sitting outside and taking in the sights of DC. The food was tasty and well-portioned for the price (and for this restaurant being Michelin-recognized). The boudin balls and steak tartare were great for sharing and the catfish was good - although I was left looking for more of those creole flavors. While service was great at the bar, it was slow and very transactional at the restaurant. Good visit and nothing stood out enough to draw me back for a return. read more

Southern food is the best food let me tell you! Stayed at the Le Meridien across the street and didn't know I was so close to such an amazing restaurant. I've heard things about Daphines but never been so it was a good time to try it. The inside is gorgeous, I like having to walk down the stairs to get to my table and seeing all of the beautiful decor. Didn't really have to wait long & the service really gave me that southern hospitality feel if you know what I mean. Food was 10 out of 10 especially the Daphine Oysters and Gumbo but the Catfish was my absolute favorite, I could order that for lunch every single day lolol. I made a reservation to Dauphine's to celebrate my partner's birthday. We were especially excited because the restaurant is influenced by New Orleans food, and that's where he was raised. The food itself was good, but the experience and service could have been a bit better, considering this is an elevated restaurant. Though the restaurant interior was beautiful, they put us at the very corner in the upstairs seating, which was comparatively less impressive than their main dining area. Our waitress also kept on rushing us to finish our plates. Granted, we love to order a lot for the entire table, and I would expect communication or a warning about how plates would come out. Instead, she was pushy and kept coming back which made it difficult to enjoy our food thoroughly. Here's what I ordered: Half dozen oysters (9/10) - they had 3 types with different levels of salinity. Every bite was appetizing and fresh! Shrimp and sausage gumbo (4/10) - the dish was lacking seasoning and could've opted for some hot sauce in the dish. there was an option for potato salad or rice on the side. i just didn't expect that choosing potato salad would mean it was right inside of the gumbo! how strange Fries boudin balls (8.5/10) - there was a good rice to meat ratio and had a very even and crunchy coating. i liked the condiments and assortment of pickled veggies it came with. Oysters dauphine (8.5/10) - broiled oysters with spinach and cheese. my partner loved it but i found it just a bit saltier than preferred Duck jambalaya (9/10) - the menu says it's for 2 people but I would argue that it feeds 4 people, just on the rice portion alone. The dish came with a perfectly cooked duck breast, a pile sauerkraut, and duck sausage. They serve the jambalaya rice tableside with it. The rice was by far my favorite part of the meal. It was rich and had some crunch from duck crackling. Highly recommend to anyone going with multiple people. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE. Everything started off great with the buttermilk biscuits-buttery and flaky (we also really really love bread). The entrees we ordered were the dirty rice & duck stuffed quail and the bavette steak. I was a bit wary of the quail but it was...spectacular, give me 14 of them. We finished off with the beignets, which made us want to learn how to bake them (still haven't and are depressed about it). I had high hopes for Dauphine's, but overall the food was pretty mediocre. The steak was very chewy and difficult to enjoy, and the duck was overly fatty without much balance.
