    Stuffed flounder crab imperial
    Shannah H.

Very affordable food here - shocking actually for steaks. We typically pay twice the menu price for steaks back home in Texas. But I came for seafood because we're close to the coast. First the basics: The restaurant was charming. Off the beaten road, there was plenty of space to move and it felt clean and not over decorated inside. Staff were friendly. Our table ordered the crab dip. It was served with garlic bread slices. The dip was a little over salted and the bread should have been toasted more to offset the softness of the dip. For my main I ordered the crab imperial stuffed flounder with coleslaw and hush puppies. Again, the crab was over salted but the flounder was perfect. The coleslaw had excellent flavor and a lot of sauce, which was nice for dipping the hush puppies. The serving portion of the hush puppies was actually an appetizer size. I think the restaurant could cut that quantity in half and it would be sufficient. Overall it was a good relaxed dining experience with friends.

    Time to dig in

Food was ok.....a bit pricey for crabs in Maryland of all places! Service....meh. Ambiance was a bit dated but cozy for a crab shack.

We decided to stop in here as it's been a while since we last started here and the seafood is simply outstanding. The staff is very welcoming helpful and they will answer any questions that you may have and they make sure you're well taken care of. We had a pound and a half of the steam shrimp which are an extremely nice size and done to perfection and we also had the crabcake and two fried shrimp which were butterfly and the flavor is just incredible and the crabcake all crab and it was just amazing . The location is very easy. It's right next to the Hanover post office on the corner. There's plenty of parking along the street and in the back in their small parking lot and they are known for their crabs and there were people coming and left and right picking up their orders and they do a really nice business here. The inside is always very clean. Tables are clean and it's a small place but it's very relaxing and you can bring your own bottle as well. So if you're in the area and you're looking for some good crabs, shrimp and seafood give this place a try you will not be disappointed . Happy New Year !

We ordered a cream of crab soup ($16) to share, to see if we would like it, and it was pretty good. For our entree we ordered the Steamed Platter for Two (snow crab legs, crabs, shrimp, clams and mussels) ($165) and cole slaw and hush puppies as sides. The platter was huge and delicious: the snow crab legs and the crabs were absolutely delicious, the mussels were great, the shrimp were great and the clams were okay, they didn't have a lot of flavor. The sides, cole slaw and hush puppies, were very good. For drinks we got a Yuengling, a Modelo, and a pink lemonade, all good. For dessert we could't order anything because we were SO FULL, but they have a peanut butter pie in the menu that I hope to try if we are ever back in Thurmont! The ambiance was nice, this is a casual restaurant and the waitresses are very friendly and laid back.

Our server, Megan, was fantastic - friendly, attentive, and made some great recommendations. The food came out in a timely manner, and everything was delicious. I ordered the Po' Boy sandwich, and wow, it was amazing! Packed with flavor and definitely something I'd order again. Kids had the cheeseburger, friends had the sampler (it was ok), and another had soup that was yummy! One thing that really stood out was when Megan brought out a pitcher of water without us even having to ask. As a family that drinks a lot of water, that thoughtful gesture was greatly appreciated and showed her attention to detail. Great food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Megan deserves a raise! We'll definitely be back.

This spot is a real treat for history lovers. The building itself dates back to 1776, and learning about the fascinating history behind it--including its role as a stop on the Underground Railroad--adds so much depth to the experience. We ate downstairs in the cozy, candlelit Springhouse Tavern cellar, which has an amazing, authentic colonial atmosphere. The food was just as spectacular as the vibe. The French Onion Soup: Absolutely amazing. It comes piping hot with a thick layer of perfectly melted, gooey cheese on top. The Drinks: I paired my meal with their bottled root beer, which was excellent and fit the old-school tavern feel perfectly. You get great food, incredible service, and a piece of living history all in one stop. Don't miss this place when you are in town!

History class would've been a lot more interesting if it ended with onion soup and roast beef…read more The Dobbin House in Gettysburg isn't just a restaurant--it's a living piece of American history. Built in 1776, it has been a family home, the first classical school west of the Susquehanna River, a stop on the Underground Railroad, and even a Civil War field hospital. Today, you can grab an incredible meal while surrounded by centuries of history. If you go, eat in the basement tavern. The atmosphere alone is worth the trip. I kicked things off with the Baked King's Onion Soup, loaded with perfectly toasted cheese and a surprise twist--shredded beef that took it to another level. I followed that with the Spit Roasted Chicken Dinner, roasted the old-fashioned way over an open fire until the skin was perfectly crisp while the meat stayed juicy and tender. Because apparently I arrived with the appetite of all 19 Dobbin kids, I also ordered the Dobbin's Hot Beef Sandwich. Tender roast beef on a buttery brioche roll with rich au jus for dipping? Absolutely demolished it. Then came the roast beef club with Swiss, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and mayo, plus not one... but two sides of potato salad. Pro tip: dip the potato salad into the onion soup. You're welcome. The Dobbin House proves that great food never goes out of style. They say you can't eat history... but after this meal, I'm pretty sure I did. If these walls could talk, they'd probably tell me to slow down next time.

If you want a "just average" eating experience you should skip Rock Salt…read more It was fantastic. But, get there early, make a reservation, or be prepared to wait. My brother and I wanted something for lunch after going to a car swap meet. We landed on Rock Salt Grille. I'd eaten there several times before. We arrived at 11:45 AM (Saturday) and there was a 30 minute wait, so we grabbed two comfortable seats at the bar. A good call. I had the Rock Salt Oysters, broiled with bacon and parmigiana. Delightful. I also had the cream of, and Maryland crab, soup combination. My brother had the crab cake sandwich. I'd had it before, but wanted the oysters. His crab cake sandwich was double the size of any I'd ever seen, without exaggeration. He guessed it was 8 ounces or more, without exaggeration, with no visible filler, (Broiled). I had a few beers and we split the Bread pudding with Grand Marnier sauce. It was enough for four. The bar and food service was spectacular with "tag teaming" to make sure we didn't wait for anything. I'd like to thank the bartenders who served us perfectly: Kelsey and Nikkea. Award winners. Rock Salt is not inexpensive, but the quality of the food and the great service justify the premium. I'll be back more often

Okay ... This place used to be a great spot. But ... it's really went the wrong way in a hurry. I'm…read moreguessing from the strain of buying out the original owner. The signature disk was and perhaps still is the Seafood club. Which for this who don't know is a club sandwich with a small crab cake, scoop of shrimp as ok ad on a BLT. It use to cost somewhere around $25 and was a pretty good option at that price. Yesterday when I visited the prices were all inflated $40 for the same sandwich. I mean seriously ... didn't order it. Won't order it. What a ripoff ... Anyway we had the potato skins which were pretty traditional... cheese, bacon, scallions. Except rather than sour cream they offer some other sauce they call Rock Salt Sauce. I asked what it was and the bartender told me it was kind of like BBQ sauce. I passed on that and got the sour cream. They were perfectly acceptable as an app for the price. They did deliver a side cup of that sauce and it was terrible. It tasted like someone poured ketchup, Worcestershire, honey and some other stuff in a bowl for laughs. Another option that was shocking was steamed shrimp. $16 for half a pound or $32 per pound. C'mon ... Shrimp are inexpensive $10 or so a pond for some really nice size shrimp per pound. Why don't you just serve them with a side of vasoline? For dinner I got thru House burger. It's supposed to be a 1/2 burger with bacon, onion ring, cheddar cheese, and more of that special house sauce. I asked her to give me the burger, cheese, bacon , onion, and mayo. With NO RockSalt sauce. The make bartender said that it might come anyway because the kitchen guys do whatever they want. I had the fries with it. What I got was a 1/4 burger tops, I mean 4 bites tops. What's worse is it came with lettuce, tomato, on it beyond the stuff I ordered. Further they included a cup of the dreaded sauce and it had spilled and saturated about a 3rd of my French fries. The barmaid knew I was frustrated over it and helped with some bar napkins . My wife got the Salmon sandwich. It came with what seemed like 4-5 slices of bacon while my burger had 1 slice made into an X on top of the cheese. Anyway ... she said hers was okay. Anyway :... my 2 cents. The pricing really is outrageous. And instruct the kitchen to follow the instructions and if the customer doesn't want the dam Rock Salt sauce then don't put it on the plate. Wastes product that isn't going to be consumed and only bad things can happen with it on the way to the table. I honestly don't see any reason to go back. Probably won't be long before the main stream crowd starts to turn to other options.
