The time invested in 'shad-seeking' was well worth it because we were able to catch a lot of fish, I think about 10! Dave's boat was ship-shape and brimming with all the gear you'd ever need. Last time we fish at Castaic Lake, we saw this guy pulling in Striper after Striper. We made a mental note that we need to fish with this guy next time and we found out his name is Dave Horst. Dave took me out for my birthday and put me right on the fish. The top water bite was nothing like I've ever experienced. I caught my PB Largemouth over 5 LPS and caught my PB striper as well. He helped when asked and gave me a nudge here and there, but mainly let me fish. If you want a great time in the water, call Dave. I'm looking forward to taking my grandson out... I had never fished with Dave Horst or at Pyramid Lake before...boy am I glad we did. Fished with many guides and large Sportfishing boats and this was one of our favorite trips. Very close to home (6 1/2 hours round trip from The San Fernando Valley...fished for 4 hours). Caught many stripped bass (2-5 lbs) and could have caught full limits of 10 each but we only wanted to keep 2 foe dinner but decided to try our luck at other fishinf methods. Dave was personable and happy to share his extreme knowledge when asked (but he also was appropriately quiet for much of the time which allowed us to enjoy our trip). (I caught just three fish, and believe me, my son won't let me forget it.) I can't say enough about how great the experience was working with Dave. I have an 8 year old grandson who wanted to experience fishing, but I kinda suck at this. I made a few trips to Santa Monica Pier and all I caught was a cold! Needless to say, not the experience that I had hoped to share with my grandson. Dave took us out and not only guided us to catch 12 whopper fish (Striper and small and large mouth Bass), but he took the time to teach my grandson and make him feel comfortable on the water.
