Service was awesome. We had a lady who was old school and gave us chic fil a treatment. She brought us ranch and go cups of drinks. Pizza is always good but their menu is super simple with just pizza and salads. This is the original location and the kids in our family will always love it. Only place I will go to get pizza ! They have perfected the art of pizza ! I also love the original ironwork inside the mtn brook location - it reminds my friend of the old " Pasquales " pizza ! Ordered the 9 inch meat lovers pizza, I asked for toppings of half onion, half mushroom and half olives on only half of the pizza however, the whole entire pizza was covered with olives, onions, and mushrooms. So unfortunately, I cannot give a good review for them being able to pay attention to what a customer wanted. So ordertaking I give them a 5 out of 10. We ate here around 3:30 on a Saturday. It was not busy and the food came out quickly. We regretted stopping here after trying the pizza though. I don't think it's a good value and we thought the crust tasted like a cracker and the pizza overall reminded us of frozen pizza. The servers were friendly. The pizza is great if you like the style they make. It's on the thin crust side but not as crispy as NY style. Flavors are terrific and plentiful ingredients. Expect small square slices which are easy to handle. The ambiance is a throwback to a time with red and white plastic tablecloth wrought iron and an arcade on the side wall. What is going on everyone I have yet another review here for you. I have to space these things out okay. Anyways this past Saturday me and my cousin ventured out over to Vestavia Hills, AL to try out Davenport's Pizza Palace second location to try it for consistency. I say that because they have a Mountain Brook, AL location and I've been there before but never reviewed it. This location is in a great spot scenery is great and an awesome place to hang out. Both locations have an arcade area with really cool games as well. This place was extremely busy but the staff was so kind and they were doing a great job. Also to add to that for my drinkers they have a bar and a drink menu too! Now for the pizza we ordered the meat lovers and as always very good. Crispy crust and you can tell they use fresh cheese and fresh ingredients in general. I'm going to pull a Dave Portnoy and give this pizza an 8.2 out of 10. There is a reason this place always makes it on the list as one of the best places to get pizza in all of Alabama and it is indeed one of my favorite places to go. Go check them out at either location and enjoy their great food just like I did. Where to begin? We love this little pizza place. It's been around since the Jurassic Period of the Mesozoic Era, okay? You don't stay in business THAT long unless you're doing something right and these guys are doing ALL the things right. Parking and in general just getting to the place can be a bit of a challenge if you're not accustomed to navigating that area. There's a lot of one way streets and street parking. When you walk into the restaurant you're immediately greeted by the aroma of fresh pizza seen being made in the kitchen to your right. Employees are friendly and acknowledge you. Doesn't take long to get seated or place your order. The ambiance is cute. Lots of photos on the walls of famous actors, actresses, signs from local breweries, and the like. There's a beautiful black trellis with string lights in the main dining area that separates some tables. The menus are written on wooden pizza paddles. The pizza is *chef's kiss* DEVINE. The cheese has that perfect stretch when you take a slice from the pie. It's not greasy or too heavily sauced. It's simply perfect. The ingredients taste fresh and they make their own sauces and salad dressing. We have eaten here several times over the years and have loved every experience and every pizza. Please review staff for manners. Having worked many years in the food industry, my tolerance for rude behavior is very low. The client is your pay check. Upon calling to place an order, a gentleman answered and told me it would be an hour for the food. No worries I thought, it's a busy establishment. About 45 minutes later I showed, spoke to the host lady and didn't think too much about the order not being ready. When the cashier lady reached out to the line, the cook kid snapped at back, look me right in the face and indicated: "I said it would be an hour". Been here several times. The pizza and service is always on point. I love how the menus are on a wooden pizza holder. Checkered table clothes gives it thar Italian theme. First time trying this place. I ordered online and it took about 30 minutes for the pickup. I came in on a Thursday afternoon for lunch and it was a handful of customers. My pizza was ready when I got there and still hot! I ate a slice soon as I got in the car. I would give the pizza a 7/10. Really nothing special about it. My only con would be the pepperoni being under the cheese. That is weird, I want my pepperoni to cook and crunch up but their pepperoni is extremely thin. The pizza sauce is little more on the acidic side and the cheese blend was good. I would probably go back but I wouldn't break my neck to tell someone about it. It's just a decent old school classic pizza spot and it's nothing wrong with that. I can appreciate old school classic pizza like this one. Davenport's has been in Birmingham for many years and have tons of history, which I love. It has a very nostalgic, old-school, pizza joint atmosphere which is unique. Even though I got takeout this time, the service was great. They made sure I had everything I needed before leaving. I ordered the Meat Lover's pizza and it was good, but not great. The pizza is cut into tiny squares (a little bit bigger than bite sized) and it was on the less-cooked side, which made it floppy and sort of difficult to eat. The pizza sauce had lots of Italian herb flavor, but I wish the crust and toppings had been more cooked. There was plenty of cheese, but unfortunately, it didn't stick well to the sauce, so it kept slipping around on the crust.
