The baked feta appetizer came out at the same time as our two pizzas and had to go back because it was still cold in the middle. I was seated where I could see into the kitchen and was shocked to see that pasta is not cooked to order. It's kept in the fridge, pre-portioned in bags and simply reheated in a sauté pan. I love Slice Pizza & Brew, and the Vestavia location is especially great. It has a covered wraparound deck and patio, which makes it perfect for outdoor dining. The pizzas are excellent, with some creative combinations that are absolutely delicious. I haven't tried them all yet, but my favorite is the Little Piggy Pizza. It's loaded with meats--pepperoni, ham, Italian sausage, prosciutto, and bacon--then finished with roasted cherry tomatoes and fresh basil. So good. The salads are also amazing. My favorites are the Redmont Salad and the Spinach Salad. Everything tastes very fresh and is topped with the perfect house-made dressings. The lunch special is a great deal: a slice of pizza and one of their salads. Each day features a different signature pizza as an option for the slice. Slice is an established Birmingham local spot. Centrally located in Vestavia's restaurant-desert, it's a family-friendly, sportsbar-ish, lunch and dinner spot. The outdoor patio is splendid for nights with good weather. Cute lights and room for kids to run around. Happy hour M-F until 6! $5 glasses of wine, and $2 domestic, bottled beers. Definitely worth it, we went around 5 on a Friday night and enjoyed some drinks and fries on the patio, finished off with a pizza. The Hot Mama was right up my alley. Hot honey, pepperoni. Honestly, I'm a lot shocked that there hasn't been a review posted yet. Having visited countless times for happy hour, between 1500-1800, it's been nothing but amazing. Had a chance to stop into Slice Pizza and Brew in Vestavia and had a good dinner. We sat outside and our server arrived within a couple of minutes. We tried some fire baked with msg as an appetizer and got some spicy mustard and hot honey bbq sauce on the side so we could try them. The fire baked wings are good by themselves but the sauces were good as well. I especially liked the hot honey bbq. We then ordered 2 pies. We created a BYO that was a buffalo chicken and then got The Lakeview. The buffalo chicken was good and the Lakeview had really good flavor with the short rib, caramelized onions, tomatoes and Asiago cheese. We did not get the horseradish sauce. The crust was cooked nicely. Our server was very attentive and took care of us. Overall, we had a good dinner. There are several items on the menu that we would like to try when we return. read more

So this past weekend I went to Festa Italiana it was basically the Italian version of Taco Fest. While I did enjoy myself I left with a underwhelming feeling. To start off I will say Italian American Heritage Society of Birmingham, Alabama did a great job with making sure people stayed cool. Besides the food trucks everything was either under tents or under the bridge at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark. They had free water stations as well as water to purchase. They even had a huge air blower out there keeping people cool. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. Seeing people actually do grape stomping and sauce contest were pretty cool too! Now here is where the food comes in. I was not able to try all the places I wanted to try due to extremely long lines. The 3 places I did try I will talk about now. First up Da Big Italian I ended up getting Da Vinnie and Da Big Italian. Da Vinnie was pretty good the sausage had decent flavor but that was about it. Nothing too crazy. Da Big Italian was extremely underseasoned and it mostly tasted like pickled banana peppers. It apparently had mozzarella cheese in it and I didn't even notice it. Huge let down. Da Vinnie 7/10 Da Big Italian 5/10 Next we have Sliced this was genuinely really good pizza. All the flavors were there like all systems go. I had been wanting to try this place for a long time and just never got to it. Like I have no notes whatsoever so I'm just gonna give my score of an 8.5/10. I will be back for more. Lastly Arnone's Italian Sausage. This was the biggest disappointment because I was super excited to try them. I ordered the Italian Sausage of course. It came with grilled onions and nothing else. Yall when I say this was the most blandist thing I have ever eaten. The sausage had no flavor at all the grilled onions were also flavorless like they used no salt, pepper, Worcester sauce, no nothing. Easy 1/10 I was extremely disappointed. All in all I enjoyed the event and if there is another one I'll be back to try the places I wasn't able to get too. I do not blame the company that put this together for any of the bad food. Second stop on my BRW line up was Slice! This was my very first time at this location. I arrived during lunch time on a Sunday. It was busy! You have to wait to be seated. Unfortunately, kind of waited a bit before anyone said anything. Eventually, the hostess came over but at this point I decided to just sit at the bar. The bartender, Taylor did a fine job. I was able to place my order from the BRW lunch menu and it even included a drink. My food came out fast. Two pizza slices and a salad (see pics). The pizza was good but definitely needed more sauce. I requested more sauce and the pizza came alive! I regret not ordering it well done, so that's on me. This is one of the better BRW offers which is mainly why I came here. This was our first time at this location. It was a Thursday night and they were crowded. The parking lot was full so we parked on the "edge". I have to say, the Slice locations are really consistent on the food. The Wedge Salads were enjoyed by everyone in our group and were spot on. That's got to be my favorite salad. I love that dressing and I do not what to know what makes it green. Its really good. The pizza tonight had a great crust but one side was "browned" more than the other. It was still good and I ate those slices. My wife will not eat "burned" pizza. We just had a regular pepperoni pizza. They were really busy so the service was not as it has been at the other stores. My drink glass went empty a couple of times. They had two parties in the back and everyone must have come in a separate car. This place had a good vibe and felt "happening". read more

After our favorite wood fire pizza place closed, we have been on the search for a new pizza restaurant. Slice came with high recommendations. We tired the Vestavia location for dinner tonight. They appeared very busy but we were greeted promptly and seated immediately. Server was prompt to our table and brought our drink orders very quickly. I ordered the perfect pepperoni and my wife got a house cheese pizza with olive oil and garlic sauce. Pepperoni came out first. At first glance it was very greasy but had some nice charred crust. The bottom crust was not crisp, had no crunch and was drowning in corn meal. I was hoping the taste would make up where the crust lacked luster. However the sauce was bland, as was the pepperoni; both lacked on the flavor spectrum. Cheese combo was nice, but very thin. My wife's house cheese pizza had the same crust issues. But her olive oil and garlic base had a very nice flavor. Her cheese combo was good as well. In comparison I can get a greasy pizza combo at Sam's club for $2.74 and that include a drink. And their pepperoni and sauce has a much better flavor. Their crust is even crispier. Had the price point not been so high, I would have rated 4 stars but I don't expect to pay $45 for two greasy, soggy pizzas and two drinks. But the Diet Coke was a hit! We came to Slice Vestavia for Father's Day and it was a disaster. The restaurant was half empty, but it took them forever to take our order. They then proceed to tell us they don't have olive oil and cannot make most of the pizzas. When we pointed out to the manager that there's a Publix across the street to easily get olive oil, he got an attitude with us and said something like maybe we should go get it. For $35 you get an appetizer of your choice, a large salad and a large pizza, and let me say, this is a ton of food! My husband and I shared everything and still had leftovers. For the appetizer we chose the baked feta which was so good!! In this incredible dish, you have fresh thyme, roasted garlic, sun dried tomatoes and olive oil. It was served with mini pieces of toast. I do not remember the name of the salad but we were able to add the toppongs that we wanted and we had left overs. My favorite part about their pizza is the thin crust. My family members loved the lakeview. We also had the spicy Hawaiian and the Old School. All of these were excellent pizzas. I think that the crust is what makes a difference. Light and airy but still has a crunch. I give it a 5 star. Our service from Maddie/ Madelyn was excellent. She made recommendations that didn't miss. Place was clean, well organized and well staffed. We also tried a couple of craft beers that were perfect with the pizzas. I like pizza and usually don't recommend pizza to others because it's tough to get it all exactly right, but this came very close. Price is a little high but 11 people for $200 is about expected. Crust is way too thin and it was cold and just not a good experience at all. Little Ceasars has better pizza than this place. If I could give a zero, I would. So we make reservations with them for our first anniversary with our kids and grandkids for the downstairs area more than a week in advance, and upon arriving the hostess tells us that the manager (who I later learn is Bernie) has misplaced our reservation and has told her such, and that they were going to put some tables together for us upstairs even though we requested downstairs because of the ages of some of our guests (2, and mid 70s). Well we get seated upstairs and are given three menus for 13 people. Good start. We order drinks. Waters are brought within 10 mins. Ordered drinks come 25 mins later. Now we order food which comes in 25 mins so not bad on that and the food is tasty, but while we are eating, a birthday party for a 13 year old girl shows up upstairs. And the girls keep coming and coming. Within minutes, 30 girls are trampling us at our table, hitting our chairs all around the table, they set up a sign behind our table on the wall and began to take their 1000 selfies and pictures with no regard for us whatsoever. The staff is all watching this and doing nothing. My wife gets up and speaks to the mother of the party About the behavior and asks for some space and for them not to be hitting our chairs. Nothing changes. The melee rages on with Bernie and his team doing nothing. It gets so bad, members of our party have to get up for being trampled by the birthday party attendees. It gets so heated at this point since we are just trying to celebrate our first anniversary and our party is so put off by the discourteous and selfish nature of the party, that one of our guests talks to the dad of the party, which doesn't go well. He begins being very personally disrespectful at which time I and my wife help our party down the stairs past the ridiculous insults and teenage mosh pit. We have people in their 70s and 3 children under 10 with us, so it takes some collection to get us all downstairs. We go downstairs and ask for the manager whom we have seen numerous times upstairs doing nothing about the situation. He immediately blames a booking app that they are using which is an excuse and takes no accountability for the situation that they watched upstairs for the last 45 mins And did nothing about. We had been patrons of slice, but given the terrible experience, lack of service, lack of leadership and accountability of this location, we won't be going back. my recommendation, don't schedule anything at slice in Vestavia. They're not competent or caring and Bernie is the Peter Principle in real life. We will remember our first anniversary and have some really crazy stories, but not the ones that we wanted at all. Picking up the food always goes well. We're normally greeted and our food is usually ready when we arrive. The food is always good. We order from this place at least once a month or so, I've dined in twice as well pre-pandemic. The food is excellent and that's why I always return. I've had at least 4 different salads, all of which were great, awesome homemade dressings to pair. The wings have great flavor and my boyfriend craves them. Of course, the pizzas are wonderful as well! Consistently the food is good and service is polite, even when very busy. They are a bit on the pricier side, but for quality ingredients and end product, I feel it is fair. The location is nice and fairly new. Parking lot is on the small side but they have a valet to help out when it becomes busy. I look forward to coming back to dine-in when this pandemic ends. The one piece of feedback I may note is more rotating seasonal pies on the menu would be nice for those who get Slice regularly, as the build your own pies get pricy quickly.
