For Italian Week, Taste of Tivoli, I ordered from Troup's to support Vestavia Hills' Italian heritage. I thought this was a really neat way to celebrate the city's history and highlight local cuisine. I decided to visit this restaurant because what is better than pizza? Something that can be saved and eaten for days. This restaurant definitely delivered wonderful food! I had the Margherita pizza, the appetizer meatball, and the beignets. The restaurant is located in a little shopping center in the heart of Cahaba Heights. It is a cozy bistro-style place. As usual, I got the food to go due to work. Unfortunately, I rarely get a chance to dine in and enjoy food at the establishment. So, I am very picky about to-go quality, and Troup's delivered. I had the margherita pizza, small 12-inch. It was still warm by the time I made it home. The mozzarella was fresh, and the perfect circle was cut and spread over each piece. The sauce was delicate and flavorful, tasting light and homemade as it should. I like a good amount of sauce, and it was very saucy. It was not overcooked in the slightest, with the cheese and basil still fresh and not burnt. The crust was more Neapolitan-style, softer toward the middle (it wasn't a true Neapolitan, though), but I like various styles of pizza, even hybrids, so I was happy. The spices used gave it great flavor. For a margherita pizza, it's definitely a thumbs up, and I would try it again. I also had their appetizer meatball, which was smothered in the same pizza sauce and fresh basil, and it was quite enjoyable. I am actually not a fan of meatballs unless they are cooked a certain way, usually a mix of meats and tender-ish, but I needed protein that day. Their meatball, I would say, qualifies as one I would eat again. It is a mix of ground pork, beef, and lamb. I am not a pork fan, but I could not taste much pork in this. I liked the beef and lamb, which gave it flavor, and it was cooked so that it was tender. Lastly, the meatball was huge in my opinion. I ate off of it for a few days (but probably most would finish it in 2 servings). Finally, I had their beignets. I tried one fresh before getting home, and it was delish! I honestly did not think they would hold well at home, and after I ate. I was pleasantly surprised. They were amazing, slightly warmed back up. Also, there were so many that I shared them with friends, who also very much enjoyed them. All in all, I would eat there again, even though it may be a bit pricey. read more

The owner overheard my father in law trying to order it and he offered to run next door (to Foodbar) and get her bottle of Stella. We were all very impressed. Food was yummy and service was great. One of the best summer salads I've ever had. The watermelon salad is a must try. Bursting with tons of flavor. The combinations of sweet, spicy, salty, come together really well. Chef kiss. The pizza was cooked to perfection the sauce, cheese, and crust all went well together. Service was excellent. Tons of beer and wine choices. The service was excellent! The people were friendly and the restaurant was cozy and clean. The pizza and two drinks was almost $40 which is high, even if I did get a gluten free crust. I ordered the gluten free Philly cheese steak pizza. It was good but it wasn't loaded. It didn't look like the photo of the one on the " find me gluten free" app. Our crust around the edges was very done and hard. It was " blackened ", I guess you'd say. The steak didn't have a good flavor. The sauce and cheese and peppers were good. I was searching for a gluten free option while we were in this area and this place popped up. It was bad but it was pricey for a 12 inch pizza and two drinks. By the end of the day I didn't get sick so I wasn't " glutened".... That's a plus!! I'd try them again read more

Mom and I decided to try Troup's after a recommendation from her physical therapist. She had a Dr's appt nearby and was hungry for pizza. Dr recommended also so how could we not try Troup's. We decided to try one of the specialty pizzas vice getting the norm. Old Cahawba was so good. The pepper rings gave it a nice tanginess. And the crust was perfect. Very close to the crusts I remember from my NY days. You can't beat a brick oven baked pizza. I was disappointed that they didn't have the draft root beer. However, the beignets were delicious and huge. Powder sugar everywhere when we got done. That's part of the fun! The restaurant is clean and roomy. The staff are very courteous and friendly. Glad it was Tuesday since they don't open till 4pm on Sunday and Monday. The restaurant wasn't very busy for in-house patrons, but take-out was booming. We got the Nanna's Meatball pizza tonight and when we got our pie, it had a small, unnoticeable hole in the middle from the dough being stretched too thin. New update! Had the in store experience! Oddly I had been there once before. This place just keeps on giving and provide awesome local vides. The decor is homey and the Holiday decor makes it even better. Yes, the crispy undercarriage of the pizza in store makes it all pop even more! Oddly, the delivery has even more flavor.....must be the time it all melds together on the drive to your home....but the winner this trip was their .....wait for it......CHILI! OMG. What pizza place offer, CHILI. C'mon man thats just insane. What is even crazier it is probably the absolute best chili store bought in all of Birmingham maybe the entire State. Laden with brisket it is thick with kidney and chili beans with the perfect spices and flavor. Very little spice heat so the timid will enjoy it. Easy to eat with a fork it is so thick! Only missing thing was crackers. That would have turned my 10/10 into an 11/10 for this Chili! Seems like it's only a winter speciality item so on those cold night grab an entire pint you won't be disappointed! The pizza was as fine as always! We are always looking for new Pizza places to try. Since I was in the area decided to pick up from here for family pizza night. Ordering was very easy online and it was ready when I arrived at the given time. We opted for the Hogthrob (house cheese blend, Italian sausage, bacon, speck ham, capicola, pepperoni, smoked tomatoes, and shaved red onions, marinara) and the Margherita (house mozzarella, fresh basil, sea salt, marinara). Plenty of meat on the Hogthrob. I am not a big fan of onions on pizza so I left them off. Would definitely order again. My son is a big fan of Margherita style pizza and was not disappointed in the least. A little bit more mozzarella that many places which IMO makes it better than others. I'm not a huge fan of this style but I definitely liked it better than most. Overall would consider going here again and even dining in if in the area but wouldn't travel out of my way. read more

I ran across this unfinished review that's nearly a year old. This our first order was a Large Big Kahuna and it was excellent - House Cheese, Bacon, Capicola, Pepper jack, Parmesan, Fresh Jalapeños and Pineapple. DELICIOUS ! GREAT PIZZA AS I mentioned prior, this next order nearly a year later was last night - We got the family meal for 4. This included a Whole Tin of Baked Ziti, A Tin of Cesar's Salad. I was told on the phone this also comes with a Focaccia that we did not get for whatever reason. However I ordered the Garlic Cheese Bread that was served with the house marinara. The Cesar salads was both fresh and plentiful, The House-made Cesar salad dressing is excellent. The Garlic Cheese Bread was also plentiful could be a meal in itself. The marinara sauce knocks this out of the park ! For the main event, the Baked Ziti is also very good and also plentiful. It's Creamy, Saucy, Cheesy and well prepared. Out and about to try another place but didn't work out. I decided that pizza for lunch would be great. Troup's was bookmarked and I was happy to try them out. Initially I was going with a 12" pie but ultimately went with their lunch special. I sat in the car and placed my order online for the pepperoni slice (they offer cheese as well) and the special includes a fountain drink and salad. I chose the wedge salad with roasted tomato dressing, bacon, and blue cheese crumbles. The slice was a nice size and fresh out of the oven and the salad with the dressing complimented the pizza and it all made for a great lunch. Nice, clean restaurant with very helpful staff. Been here a few times now and I always try and order something different. Each trip has been amazing- all the pizzas we've tried are so good! Wood fired pizzas are my favorite, and Troups's does it very well. Pizzas always come out hot and fresh and in a timely manner. We had a great experience at Troop Pizza Saturday. One of the things that we love about living in Cahaba Heights is the ability to be able to walk to so many great restaurants and things to do. It's been a while since we had eaten at troops so we gave it a try again. We prefer our crust to be on the lighter side, so we got it lightly baked and for us it turned out perfect. Food was not that good and pricey. Ordered 3 different pizzas, the pineapple one, the mushroom one and a cheese. All just ok at best. The kids working aren't the most helpful. Would have been nice to know I could have made one half and half. The beignets are horrible and threw them all away. It was super tough dough. Shame cause they gave you a lot. Delicious pies and super fast service! Tons of space inside and on the patio meant social distancing was easy, and the pizza was AMAZING! We started with the crispy mozzarella bites, which were beautifully crispy and served with a wonderful marinara. They were outstanding, but the real reason to visit is the pizza. We ordered both the Margherita and the Classic Pepperoni. The Margherita pizza was our favorite - it was simplistic perfection with SO MUCH fresh mozzarella cheese! The Classic Pepperoni was covered in large, thick slices of aged pepperoni with a really rich cheese blend (lots of Parm or Romano?). It was good, but the Margherita was the real winner. Found this place on a site that was featuring newer restaurants in the B'ham area. Not too far from work, so I thought I'd give it a try for lunch. Really open and spacious restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating available. Employees were very friendly and helpful with telling people that came in about lunch specials and answering questions. I really wanted to try a sandwich, but kind of thought that wouldn't be the best approach for a pizza place. I ended up going with the: Old Cahawba - house cheese blend, pepperoni, Arnone sausage, caramelized onions, mushrooms, pepper rings, marinara $17/$22 (Note: Mushrooms removed because let's face it they're disgusting!) Really good pizza! Fresh ingredients and great flavor come from these brick oven style pizzas. If you're wondering a little more about who's behind this new pizza joint: That would be Chef Terrill Brazelton's. He was made an appearance on Guy's Grocery Games and has won Birmingham's Best Pizza for 6 years in a row. He was also voted 3rd best chef in Birmingham, behind Frank Stitt and Chris Hastings in 2017. Not bad pedigree for turning out a pizza on the fast track to flavor town. Highly recommend! read more

I am constantly on the hunt for a great pizza, and Troups provided some crowd pleasers tonight! We got the pepperoni pizza, of course. We have to try the pepperoni option everywhere we go. The pepperoni was delicious! Large slices and plenty of it. We also got the meatball. The meatballs were moist and well seasoned and the peppers added a tang! The last we got was the Woodstock. It had tons of mushrooms, greens, and goat cheese. The sweetness from the caramelized onions paired so well with the earthy mushrooms and truffle in the sauce. However, the star of the show was the crust! I am a suckered for a good crust! It was crisp and flavorful. My son doesn't ever want to eat the outer crust, typical 2 year old. You walk in and there is a beer and beverage cooler to your right. Lots of decent options for beer selections. Past the cooler is the counter that you order at where you receive your number (if dining in) to be placed at whatever table you choose to dine at. I personally love places that I can order, pay, sit, eat and leave whenever I please. The staff is sweet and helpful. The menu has some great options so anyone can find something to catch their eye. What we started with - We personally love their wings. They have a homemade hot sauce that they are baked in and the ranch they come with is delicious as well. My gf enjoys their ceasar salad (romain lettuce, parm shavings, red onions and croutons with caesar dressing) while I prefer the arugula salad (arugula/mixed greens, blueberries, shaved almonds, sour cherries, lemon dijon and thomasville cheese). Now for the P-I-Z-Z-A ‍ - My favorite is "The Hills" pizza. This pizza comes with braised short rib, arugula, red onions, smoked roma tomatoes, shaved parm, horseradish aioli and marinara. The braised short ribs as so tender and all of the ingredients go so well together. We also tried the "Muffuleta". This particular pizza came with mortadella, pepperoni, capicola, speck, provolone, Gambino's olive salad, extra virgin olive oil, parmesan. I enjoyed this pizza, but found myself only wanting 2 slices vs eating the whole pizza like I did with the Hills. There is def something for everyone here. We've been 4 times in the past month or so and it's a new favorite for my husband and me! Every time we've had very fast service, even on a crowded Friday night. There are several young servers who appear to be teens/maybe family members of the owners, they are so polite and do a great job. The mozzarella bites are great, and we love both the pepperoni and Margherita pizzas. The pizza portion sizes are great. We went once on a Thursday night and they had live music on the patio which was nice. Plenty of seating inside and outside. The ranch for dipping pizza is delicious too! We just moved into the area here and needed to find something for dinner while unpacking- GREAT FIND! We have been back a couple times since and we definitely be around again. Small but awesome menu. The salads, even the small ones are enough to share! My wife got the House and I got the Arugula. They don't disappoint! Growing up up north and having worked in a share of mom and pop pizza places, I'm a snob for a good pie. The crust is great- crisp and firm without being too cracker like.
