It's been a minute since I had Dave's, and they recently launched a collab with the animated series X-Men '97. I had to get the special X-Men Meal, which came with a cool mini-figure of an X-Men character. This location offers dine-in, take-out, and drive-thru ordering. I've always liked the food here, and they've been consistent. The chicken slider I got with my meal was delicious, and just the right amount of heat for a medium level. I do like spicy food, so I may go hot next visit. The chicken tender was juicy and flavorful. The seasoned fries were freshly made, crispy, and hot, as well. For vegetarians, they offer a few items such as cauliflower sliders, mozzarella planks, and more. I also got a regular fountain drink, which wasn't part of the X-Men Meal. Along with fountain drinks and iced teas, there were also bottled drinks available for purchase behind the cashier. I dined in for lunch (before noon); it wasn't too busy, and I received my order fairly quickly. After I finished my meal, more customers started coming. There were no more seats for more guests to dine in. The dining area was clean, but only a few tables were available inside, and a few outside (without shade). The umbrellas weren't out the time I visited. When not packed, the atmosphere is chill, and the art on the walls and ceiling adds a trendy, casual vibe. I think a few more tables could have fit in the dining area, but overall a pleasant experience recently. I learned about Dave's when I tried their Lakewood location. It was great! Really surprised how much I enjoyed the sandwiches. Figured this location would be just as good so I was excited the first time I visited. Very disappointing visit. Their chicken was almost 20% smaller than the chicken I got at Lakewood. So I said I won't visit this place anymore and stick to Lakewood. Come today, my daughter said she was hungry. Said she'd love some Chik fil a. In my head I'd rather have Dave's so I suggested it to her. So we ended up here again at the Cerritos/Artesia location. As we were pulling up to the drive thru we noticed an suv that was waiting at the window. I placed my order and as we got to the window, the same SUV we saw as we pulled up was still waiting. And waiting. My daughter commented how they had been waiting for a while and I thought maybe they placed a large order. So when they finally pulled off, I pulled up and paid, the cashier was kind and asked if we wanted sauce or ketchup but then it happened. We got stuck waiting for our simple #2 for over 10 minutes. At the drive thru. While the staff just glanced at us and kept serving the diners inside. We finally got our order but the guy who handed me the food didn't even apologize for the long wait. Horrible way to make an impression on my daughter Cerritos Dave's. I went to write up this review and I'm shocked to see it has a 4 star review. Maybe today was an off day, but usually that's how these reviews get written. One bad experience can lead to these reviews l. Having the Free Slusher promo, a trip to Dave's Hot Chicken was what was in store that day. Frozen Hi-C Flashin' Fruit Punch Slusher- My teeth hurt! Ouch! As someone who rarely imbibes in sugary drinks, The Frozen Hi-C Flashin' Fruit Punch Slusher reminded me of mixing Kool-Aid packets at home w/ copious amounts of granulated sugar. The Slusher did have a Hawaiian Punch-reminiscent flavor, but a few sips were all I could manage. Top Loaded Fries- This was good. The highlights for me were the kale slaw & thick, crunchy pickles. An ample amount of fried chicken tenders & crinkle cut fries, the Top Loaded Fries provided a filling & satisfying lunch. Service was good. The wait was minimal for the fries. The interior dining area is a tad small, with more seating available outside. There is a Drive-Thru option, as well. Dave's Hot Chicken manages to compete with the other fried chicken chains in the area. While I would never order the Frozen Hi-C Flashin' Fruit Punch Slusher, again, the enticement of getting one for free brought me in, and the Top Loaded Fries satisfied the grease tooth (sweet tooth's less pretty cousin). Not this time around, I normally go inside and the art on the wall is cool but I tried going through the Drive-Thru and I kinda wished I didn't. Finished ordering at the Drive-Thru and arriving at the window there was only one car ahead, their parking lot was empty so I'm assuming little to no customers were inside, didn't expect to be waiting 15-20min before being able to pay and recieve my food. The staff is super friendly! And the service is quick too. I got lite mild Dave's #3 which is a tender, a slider, and fries. You can choose different spice levels for the tender and slider which I thought was really cool and perfect for trying out different spice levels. Everything was so good from the seasoning to the sauce and the fries. The fries are a bit on the softer side, it's not the crunchy, crispy kind. It's thick enough so that you can really feel like you're eating potato, but not too thick to the point that it's too much in one bite. The buns on the slider are very soft and a bit soggy, maybe from the sauce. I probably would prefer the buns to be a bit more structured, but overall, the whole slider tastes great! The vanilla shake was also really good! It's comparable or even better than in-n-out! I usually don't eat a lot of spicy foods, but I can tolerate some spiciness. The lite mild was very very mild in my opinion. It's barely spicy. I think I could have handled mild. The music is a bit loud, so it's a little hard to have a conversation. There's also plenty of outdoor seating with music as well. They have a small parking lot for you to park. I would recommend this place and come back for more! I remember when Dave's was just one location and the lines there were stupid long, like 20 people or more. Also the food was spectacular. I like that everyone can pick their own spice level, that's nice for groups with different spice tolerances. However, it was a little pricey, especially for the cauliflower vegan option, which has a cheaper main ingredient and was smaller in size, so that was weird.
