Oh how I want one of these in my home city. This place has been on my list and I finally came. I got the tender and slider meal with Kale Slaw. Let me say their Kale Slaw is awesome. It is standard Cole slaw with chopped kale; I would get it again. Their tenders are HUGE and their sliders are not little, it is a slider in a small bun. I got VERY HOT for the seasoning and it delivered. My mouth burned for 10 mins after I finished but it was palatable. They have a level above but I was happy with VERY HOT. When we arrived it wasn't very busy but by the time we left it was full. Service was good; it takes some time to make the meals because you pick your seasoning. Please build one of these in Kingsport, TN and you will do very well. If they had one of these downtown where the breweries are I'd be there weekly. Such great food! read more

Wow! My expectations were low because it's a chain and I read some negative reviews. First of all, the menu only has 3 meals which are just different combinations of chicken tenders, fries and bread. They are all huge portions and priced that way. They also have slaw and Mac n cheese but there are no dark meat options. It's a very limited menu. When I started eating, I couldn't believe how good these tenders are! From the crispy crust on the outside to the incredible seasoning! The seasoning is sweet and hot and some of the best that I have had. I got the Medium which seamed just right for me. I have no idea how they cook white meat so tender and juicy?! It's amazing that both of my pieces were absolutely perfect. Not dry, not chewy, not tough. Perfection. Also the fries are solid. They are seasoned crinkle cuts. They pair perfectly with the chicken. The sauce has a nice flavour, but I enjoyed the chicken just as is and also really enjoyed it dipped in honey. Mac and cheese was my side and it was good! I'm not the biggest mac and cheese fan so don't feel I'm a fair judge, but I would rank this higher in the mac and cheese world. I finally visited this place after months of waiting for it to open and I was kind of disappointed with the flavor of the seasoning it's covered in. The chicken itself was tender and juicy so that was a win but if I ever go again I'll get no spice level as the breading to chicken ratio is to my liking. I also decided to try the Mac and cheese because I was curious whether it'd be better than chick fil a and it's safe to say it got a 1/5 basically gave me PTSD from eating at the college cafeteria but with Dave's seasoning. Service was fast and didn't need to wait around for anyone another plus from me. Restaurant environment was very clean but I do have to mention that the music was nonstop blaring the whole time I was in there getting a bite I couldn't really hold a conversation it was so noisy and wouldn't recommend it to people with sensitive hearing.. However for the price I rather steer you away from spending an outrageous amount and head to Grimes's instead that still is my fav fried chicken place it's local so give them your support rather than this chain that promises you something that didn't deliver. The background history was that this place started in Los Angeles, CA and one of the original founders was trained by a chef who cooked at The French Laundry, a very upscale restaurant in CA (one that CA's governor, Gavin Newsom, went to during the pandemic without a mask and with a group of peope...m...hm...). Anyway, it started out as a stand and then it blew up and rapidly began expanding across the U.S. Lexington is lucky to have one, sort of like Winchester, KY is lucky to have a Fatburger (another chain out of Los Angeles)...we can state that it may even be better than IN N OUT... O_O! Drake, the rapper, has a stake in this chain just like Kanye West has a stake in Fatburger. Experience: I ordered a Carolina reaper slider (no, they do not make you sign a waiver) from this place and it was GOOD. It was basically a tender with dry rub AND sauce! You get both unlike other chicken places where they give you either/or. It is like 4d instead of 3d! It's like a liquid metal/endoskeleton terminator instead of an endoskeleton terminator. The future in spicing up chicken. Double whammy...OMG!! I had to coat my stomach first with Culver's free custard scoop! HOLY CHIT! Now for the pricing and, like locations from New York or Los Angeles; Lexingtonians will find that the price points will be high. This is because these chains come from high cost of living places, but do not bother to adjust their pricing to cities they expand to. There have been a number of reviews under this location that mention this and I thought to better clarify as to why. Got the sides of Mac and cheese and also cheese fries. I got the spicy level (Hot) which was the perfect amount of spice for me personally. The chicken tenders were a good size but one of them was really small that I got. They were juicy, flavorful, and not dry at all even when I air fried it later. After wanting to visit for months I finally made it out to Dave's. Ordering online was quick and easy and pick up was a breeze. I went with the xtra hot seasoning and it had a good heat level that was enjoyable. Even after ordering takeout and driving it home the chicken was still moist and well cooked. Overall though the spice was just ok. It had a hint of sweetness but not much other flavor. They have outdoor seating and indoor seating. When I arrived, I was cheerfully greeted by a staff member and informed about not only getting a free meal for following them on Instagram for Drake's birthday but they were giving out milkshakes for a Google review. The menu was easy to order from and their main entrees are their fried chicken sliders and tenders. They have a range of spice levels for their entrees from no spice to reaper. I ordered the mild for the tender and hot for the slider. The chicken seemed overcooked on the outside because the dry spice blend was so dark. However, the chicken on the inside was nice and tender. The fries were good and well-seasoned. I really enjoyed the slider which had their kale slaw (I could've eaten the slaw on its own!), Dave's sauce (spicy mayo, like Chick-fil-a's), and pickles. First time here I ordered 3 sliders with fries... could only eat one tonight. I ordered extra hot... I enjoyed the slow burn nice heat level but next time I will sign the waiver and order the reaper. The reason I only ate one was I ate the fries, pickles and one slider which is honestly a sandwich more then a slider. I enjoyed this place. Good, fast, friendly service. Multiple spice levels that get quite spicy depending on what you like. Their mac and cheese is amazing! Very quick meal. Don't be fooled- they are called sliders but one is as filling as any other sandwich. A good place to grab a quick, hot bite to eat. I am especially impressed with how well they cook their chicken. I got the number 3, Slider with 1 tender and fries. I'm not a big eater but I wanted to try both! First the slider isn't a slider at all...they are hamburger buns. So if you get the number 2, 2 sliders, is really 2 whole chicken sandwiches! I got medium and my son got hot. Both were delicious! They put kale slaw on the sliders...and I'm not a kale fan ..but it was soooo good and works with the sandwich!! The employees were really nice and attentive, the food was A+ in my book. Service was friendly but very slow even though they did not appear to be particularly busy. Mac and cheese was not very cheesy and fairly bland. The chicken was just ok - spice level (I picked a medium level option) was fine but the spice itself was fairly blah. Way too much dry rub and not particularly flavorful. We ordered Dave's#3, which comes with 1 Chicken Tender, 1 Slider Sandwich (It's big ), and delicious fries. The hospitality of the workers is a plus. They're very friendly and did their job well. Dave's Hot Chicken is the best hot chicken you will find in Lexington, and it is not close. With a limited menu, the place does not overwhelm you and sticks to what they know: GOOD. CHICKEN. With a sweet backstory of being started by four high school friends, the vibe and energy of Dave's has a heartwarming and welcoming sense of place. I ordered the #1 with medium heat, and it was unbeatable. The spice was perfect, showing they COULD go hotter but still being rather spicy. The size of the tenders were HUGE, to the point where I was satisfied with just the entree. Where they REALLY got me was how perfectly-seasoned the crinkle-cut fries were. LOVED THEM. I also ordered a side of the cheese fries, as suggested online, which were just as amazing. PRO tip- save their signature sauce for the fries, indescribable. My other party ordered the #2, two sliders with fries, and a side of mac and cheese. Needless to say, the sliders were just as amazing. The only complaint was that the mac and cheese was less-than-stellar, yet still filling and great. This could be because we were not necessarily desiring the mac and cheese, yet wanted to try what the menu had to offer. That being said, we cant stand coleslaw, so we cannot comment on their "Kale Slaw" as we did not order. Overall, this place was amazing. I got hot and the seasoning was just not good. My boyfriend said it tasted like the seasoning that comes with a cup of noodles and I agreed! That alone I could look past but the texture of the chicken was so off putting. It was so odd and the meat almost had a pink tint to it. I ate maybe half a tender before I called it quits. I love Nashville Hot Chicken and had been limited to Joella's in Lex. I went to Dave's for lunch today and ordered a Hot chicken sandwhich (Hot heat level). To start the heat level for a "Hot" sandwhich was not overbearing, I would go one higher. Secondly.....the chicken was GOOD. It is much more like the authentic NHC. I got a side of fries, which were fine. My only complaints aren't really complaints at all.....they are more comments on that type of food. I wish Daves offered a base salad that its chicken could go on. In absence of a salad, at least some beans or greens. They do have a kale salad but it is mayo based.
