We almost always get the family platter it comes with a ton of chicken shawarma, fries and Cole slaw and delicious garlic dipping sauce. It's more than enough food for our family of four. There is not a more authentic Arabic restaurant in Louisville. I've traveled to Jordan, Turkey and Iraq several times and the food at the Syrian Grill is as authentic as the food in the Middle East. After our first choice for dinner failed to come to fruition, we stopped here and WOW what a back up plan! It was busy in there but not obnoxiously so. The lady at the counter did all the ordering and tallying for each person by hand which was something you dont see anymore! I ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich and a side of falafel. Both were extremely fresh and flavorful, although I thought the sandwich was definitely elevated by the addition of hummus. The interior is casual, but comfortable. Food came out fast and beautifully presented. I am definitely coming back to try other things! read more

I am new to the area and was told this restaurant was one of the best spots to eat. Well, I decided to try this restaurant out during Saturday afternoon of shopping. I was very shocked at what I saw. I saw one of the male workers digging eye goop out of his eye with his food handling gloves and not wash his hands nor change his gloves. I saw a female employee cutting tomatoes and then proceed to answer the cordless phone at front desk. She did not take her gloves off before answering the cordless phones nor did she change her gloves, she walked back to the tomatoe cutting station to cut tomatoes while talking on cordless. My 10 year old daughter also saw her wiping her nose with the gloves on and continuing to handle food. I then noticed the same female employee pick and wipe her nose without gloves but did not wash her hands before putting on new gloves and proceed to handle more food. I feel hand hygiene is very important to be safe and keep everyone healthy. I truly hope that they get better hygiene practices. read more

A colleague from Syria let me in on the hidden gem that is Syrian Grill. He, rightly so, misses the food of his homeland, and has mentioned that this place gives him the warm fuzzies of home. As a plant-based person, I was worried there wouldn't be enough options, but was delighted to find I could easily and deliciously make a meal of tabbouleh, baba ghanoush, and hummus. If you are used to the typical American hummus and baba ghanoush, you may at first have some hesitation about Syrian Grill's, as they add a little more tahini and a little less salt. These are not bad things. I ordered our food to go, which was very good, as later on was definitely glimpsed to be licking the last dregs of magic off my fingers. You order at the counter, food is brought to you, and then you go pay at the counter before you leave . We shared hummus, a single chicken biryani meal, and a chicken shawarma wrap with fries. After passing Syrian Grill so many times, I finally got the chance to order takeout from here today. And it won't be the last time. I ordered the chicken biryani meal. The pics of that bright yellow rice and giant pieces of chicken did me in. And this lived up to my expectations. This is a huge portion, and I ate it all. The chicken had the best flavor and practically fell off the bone. I didn't really need a knife to eat it. And I loved that rice. I also got a small portion of hummus. I'm always interested to see how Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurants make their hummus. This was smooth with great tang. One small suggestion, though: Please include one or two pieces of pita bread with an order of hummus or at least include that as an upcharge option. My mother-in-law, who picked up our meal, said that the restaurant offers free tea to those who are waiting. This is a nice touch! My friend told me about this place last year when it opened! This time, my friends and I were grabbing bubble tea from Sharetea and decided to try this place out. They've got booths, so we sat and dined in. We all ordered the chicken shawarma which came with fries and shared a salad and hummus. Good price for the portion! Like $7 for the shawarma I think? I was stuffed and couldn't finish. Took some of it home. The salad was good! Very refreshing taste! The hummus was different but still delicious! It came with a ton of pita that we couldn't finish. I'd come back and try a falafel or something else I haven't had off the menu. Food came quick! We waited maybe 5-7 minutes for the food. If you want great food that doesn't break the bank check this place out. Now let's talked about the food. Chicken Biryani- was tender and delicious it s packed with spices and flavor. The rice was off so good! Highly recommend getting extra rice (it reheats well). The chicken was tender that the bones just fall off! Tabbouleh - was such a great palate cleaner it's so fresh and delicious. None of the food pre-made even the tabbouleh. Everything is made as you order. Lamb bbq- was probably my favorite. The ground lamb meat was perfectly season and it does not taste gamey. I could easily eat 3 in one seating. Chicken Shawarma- my GF got the chicken shawarma and it's the best chicken she had ever had. It was very flavorful and it's cooked on the vertical grill. Nice people, great food and reasonable prices. I sure was impressed and that's saying something. I got the mixed grill plate to go to share with my husband. We were both stuffed and complimentary of everything. There were a couple of pieces on the dry side and of course as with any restaurant too much sodium intake. I loved all the meats, the rice, the grilled veggies. Next time I'm going to try one of their dipping sauces. I don't think they just give those guys out but you can ask for them. A small group of us stopped in on a whim after a hike and we just really needed some food. I had driven past many times and suggested Syrian Grill as it was on the way back to our homes. After our experience....I was shocked to see such a high rating on Yelp. Upon walking in, we were confused about ordering. It looks like you order at the counter and pick up your own food. So we were looking up at the hanging menu when we were told to just sit down and they would take our orders at the table. Disappointingly, beverages are all single serving/disposable style. No fountain soda, no free water (bottled only it seems). We needed some time to look over the menu but had decided to share an order of hummus. It was brought to the table and we ate it as we continued to look over the menu. It was not great hummus....pretty bland and kind of chalky. I expected better. But it was something to tide us over until we ordered our main meals. But then the server just started ignoring us? I had asked for a few more moments to for us all to decide. And he left us....for much longer than that. A couple cigarettes outside, serving plenty of other tables...I tried many times to make polite eye contact to get his attention so we could order. Nothing. I tried polite waving/gesturing in the air that we were ready to order. Nothing. It took actually going up an asking another employee if we could order for them to tell us to sit back down, go find our server, and finally send him back to the table. The food was...ok. A couple of the meals were mixed up, but just traded among ourselves. The best part of the meal were the french fries. Which it hurts me to say. But the rest of it was just...meh. We were again left waiting for the bill so we could pay and leave. Again, our server seemed to have blinders on when it came to our table. So we got up and went to the counter to ask to pay. We had long given up on the hopes of separate checks, and in fact were never even given the option for the possibility. We were told to sit back down, again, and they would come with the bill. Paying went quickly then, since they brought and left a portable card reader/payment device. So we paid and left. We were all disappointed in our overall experience here. And there are enough other Middle Eastern and Mediterranean joints around town with better tasting food and far better service. First time here. The decor looks a little thrown together at the last minute in the main seating area. The music is fairly loud and the fans are louder still. The tea they have is wonderful. I got the Chicken Biryani and it was okay, and they put it with lots of rice which was okay. My wife got the Chicken Shwarma wrap with fries. I ate a bit of it and it was definitely better than mine. We got a Hummus side to share and they have good hummus!. It's good for a quick bite, but it's not great fare. Prices are reasonable for what you get. read more

This place is easy to miss unless you're looking for it but when you walk in it's like you've taken a portal to Damascus. The Koran is being recited over the speakers in the restaurant along with some music from the region. The more important part, the food, was very good. My friend ordered hummus for an appetizer and the hummus was good but my only complaint was the bread that came with it. They took the easiest way possible on the bread as they didn't even take it out of the plastic bag packaging and it was cold. I ordered the chicken shawarma with fries and when it came it didn't look like it was going to fill me up. I was wrong because it was filling and very flavorful. Overall this was a good experience and I'll definitely give it another try, I just hope they get their pita bread game up. read more

I stopped in for lunch for the first time recently. I ordered the chicken shawarma and some baba ganoush to go. The shawarma was absolutely fantastic, and the fries were perfectly crispy and pleasantly seasoned. The baba ganoush was decent, although it needed a bit more acidity for my taste. The shawarma came with some slices of lemon, which helped the baba ganoush. It also came with a creamy garlic sauce, which I used as a dip for both my fries and shawarma. The prices are very reasonable and the service was also pleasant. I would absolutely eat here again and hope to do so soon. read more

I've been on the look out for a good chicken shawarma place in Louisville ever since I moved here. I always compare any shawarma I get to the one from a popular place I used to frequent in Lexington. What I got here at Syrian grill are the chicken shawarma wrap and a lamb skewer. The chicken was a tad salty but too lemony for my taste. But the wrap itself was big enough and had a good quantity of chicken. It's just that the taste was meh. Now, the lamb kebab is a whole different story. I appreciate that it comes with a few veggies and two pieces of pita. That's the only good thing I can say about it. The meat itself was too tough and too salty. I ended up having to toss it and I was really sorry to do that as I very much wanted to like it. Also, I'd asked to make the shawarma wrap spicy, assuming they'd add some kind of hot sauce while making it. But they gave me a small container of minced green chilies and even charged me for it. I was surprised but that's on me. I should've asked what 'spicy' entails. I might be back here just for the shawarma when I'm in the area. And definitely tell them to go easy on the lemon. read more

Um, hello, Did I just teleport to Sham? How could it be that such delicious Syrian food exists just seven minutes away from me? I walk in, the Fairuz is bumping on the speakers, the shawarma spit is rotating. Everyone's happy to see me. I'm incorrectly pluralizing words in Arabic and getting away with it...I could swear I'm back in my old neighborhood in Damascus 2008. All the nostalgia feels Chicken shawarma sandwich was on point. And they have toum! My god, I want to send them a dozen roses just for that. My only regret is not ordering my sandwich with fries and tomato inside. That's my fault, will remember for next time. Finished it off with warm pita and hummus: creamy, well-balanced with lemon, tahini and chickpeas in perfect harmony. My mom is picky picky, so I was relieved to hear she loved the fried kibbe. I could eat kabobs here all day! Service is great along with the atmosphere. The family meal can feed a family of 4 easily.

Top plate is a piece of Lamb Skewer $3 on flat bread with parsley, tomatoes, peppers. The lamb was well-seasoned, a little dry, but tasty. Top right is Chicken Shawarma sandwich $5, mouthful of goodness, slight garlic seasoning, also a little dry. Bottom plate is Kibbeh Niyeh $5, not exactly sure what that was and kind of wish it was explained better when ordering, but it's some kind of seasoned, ground up, moist red ball set on top of iceberg lettuce. I used it to moisten my chicken shawarma sandwich and still had plenty leftovers that I may mix into my breakfast. Overall, it was a nice, filling meal for $13 +tax, but I wish it wasn't so dry. The staff seemed nice and accommodating, BUT no one was wearing a mask!!!! That was rather disappointing, when guests were required to wear one, per sign on the door. Another thing I noticed, was their dining room was extremely cold the time I waited for my food. It would have been too uncomfortable to dine in, but I got take out.
