Like so many American dreams, Dave's Hot Chicken had humble beginnings. I liked how this restaurant was presented and the storytelling was great too. After my first bite of the fried chicken, I made up my mind. I will definitely keep coming back for this addictive, crispy, and flavorful chicken tender from Dave's Hot Chicken. One negative point is that my chicken and fries were a little bit cold as my personal preference is to eat food at a hot temperature. As soon as you walk in the door, you are greeted and made to feel welcomed by the employee at the register and they are always friendly and helpful. Service is always really good here. ordered some chicken tenders and fries and the mac & cheese. Chicken was good, but it was a little powdery, a little excess on the spice powder Ingredient, less would've been better it is still very good though. Fries always cooked to perfection golden brown and crunchy. Awesome addition to town and the local take out scene since arriving last year. Always fresh food and equally fast service offered at good prices. We especially appreciate the late night hours well beyond 10PM for us locals here in SLO. The establishment itself is fun/clean/well thought out though the line can build awkwardly close to the front doors of the main entrance when it's busier. Always enjoy the 'hot' level slider, fries, and always recommend a few sides of Dave's sauce. This spot is always killer and hopefully will be a reliable hot chicken take out spot for years to come! The food here is amazing and the workers in the back are very fast. The big problem is the cashier and register workers tho... They are terrible with time management and taking orders. I don't know if it's a training problem or the actual people themselves but it's incredibly stressful watching someone move sooo slow while the orders just build up. I eat here at least 1 time a week and I spend most of my time watching terrible time management consist. I even tried online orders and they don't even give you your food on the side! I gotta give some love for the chicken here. The fast food craze taken over by chicken continues to thrive with Dave's Hot Chicken. Similar to Canes in the style but miles apart when it comes to flavor. Nothing wrong with Canes but when you can dial in the level of heat you want for the breading on those juicy, piping hot checked tenders, well...it's a different game altogether. The fries were similar too. Dave's gives a piece of white bread with their meals. I "wonder" why? Not for me. Canes had those crazy toasted bread offerings so it's not a match on this one. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the Kale Slaw and the timeliness of the order, the friendly service, and the clean atmosphere. Definitely worth a try. read more

I opted for mild and did the fries. BF ordered medium and upgraded to cauliflower bites. We also ordered a side of mac and cheese. While we waited for our food we looked around. The place was clean, lively, colorful and inviting. Alan brought our food out and was just as friendly as Jolene. Our food came out hot. Just the right amount of spice. The chicken was crispy. Great service and really good food! The fries were pretty good! I would say not the best but a good side of fries! The chicken is where it's at though. I got the single slider in a "hot" and it was the perfect spicyness! Definitely packs a punch but it's still flavorful and not just dumb hot! Chicken was good, perfectly and the whole sandwich was really tasty. My only critique is that the slaw is kind of just there! Horrible service, I am a very patient man but this was insane. This is the first complaint I've ever made because what they did was unacceptable. First of all, zero communication in the kitchen. Working in restaurants all my life and even in fast food there is a level of communication so everyone knows where they're at. I placed my order and waited 20-25 minutes before going up to the counter and asking where my order was. They did not even start it. They said they would have it out so I waited another almost 30 minutes on top of the previous 20 before going back and asking where my order was. They again did not even have it ready or started at all. I was beyond livid at this point and asked for a refund. There should be no reason a worker sees someone without their food waiting for any longer than 20 and does nothing about it. Horrible service, I do not ever want to come back if this is the level of customer service your staff has. Be better. read more

We wanted to try the not so spicy choices, unfortunately they were still way weak for us. Next time we will try what is kinda equivalent to habanero. I had the equivalent to jalapeno ( not) and my husband to equivalent to hot Cheetos, dry rub, also not spicy. At least not for us.
