I've lived in Santa Rosa for about a year and a half. This is right down the road from where I lived. Love this small market! The staff there are incredibly friendly! And the market has all your market fixes. It's not too big, but still a good size. Things are regularly stocked.It's a clean place, and the staff seem very hard working and positive to their customers. In the morning you'll find coffee and breakfast sandwiches and burritos in the hot section next to the counter. In the hot box , throughout the day, they'll have some ribs, lasagna, pasta. . Etc The premade sandwiches are pretty addictive I'd say! I always grab one on the frequent visits . Overall glad I have this spot by me! Absolutely my worst visit ever. Will never return. I've never been so humiliated by an employee actually the employee and her mother it sounded like. I understand Spanish by the way so when you're speaking about me and my son I heard every work. Then you want to dismiss me like a complaining customer when your boss comes out. They clearly look at the cameras there from their shrine of people on their window. Run the tape back and watch exactly what happen. Dave's is the only corner store around in this area, and boy does it know it! They not only have everyday needs and essentials for sale here, but they have a locally known & respected Deli, which makes BOMB sandwiches. But (in case that wasn't enough) that's not even what they're known for! They're known for their top-shelf, 5-star ice cream. And let me tell you, I've had a few years to sample various ice cream shoppes here and there... NOTHING comes close to Dave's Ice Cream! And just in case all of THAT didn't move you... they also have a classy coffee shop called Dave's Coffee & I might sound biased but, that is off the chain too. They are known to run a great deli, ice cream & coffee shop... very rare indeed! read more

I ordered a Reuben. It was absolutely the best Rueben I've ever had! I told her don't hold back on the sauerkraut and she gave me an ample amount. I've been to other places and it doesn't seem like they know how to make one. Once I went to Safeway when they had a special buy a Reuben and get chips and soda for free. Don't let the location and exterior scare you. Yes it's a corner market, but they are making great sandwiches. Yelp did not let us down. First - the service. The staff was cheerful, friendly and just pleasant to interact with. It's hot, people are grumpy we are month 3 of SIP and the staff was happy and not rushing people. Love this Sandwich time: what I like basic build your own sandwich is $6. Items like avocado and such are extra but for the most part they are affordable and a great deal. Ingredients- many combos to choose from. What I like is that it's not just your basic items with a few "aioli" fancy additions. So many options- honey mustard, smoked cheddar cheese, sprouts, cucumbers, peppers, smoked turkey.. you can have sandwiches hot or cold.. basically if your sandwich isn't good - you built a sad sandwich lol I had smoked turkey(they had plain) on lite rye (could've done dark), Mayo, honey mustard, pepper jack, sprouts, avocado (and it was a decent amount of beautiful slices, onion, cucumber and pickles... Overpriced sandwich! $11 for a basic sandwich is too much! I got a Turkey and salami on a roll with mayo, mustard, tomato and lettuce. That's it. I'm from San Rafael , visiting my mother in law in Santa Rosa. I usually get my sandwiches at United Market. Their specialty sandwiches are just $7.95, and SO much better. Sandwiches are better than other places in the area and are priced better. I paid $12 for a simple sandwich somewhere else and paid $10 for a sandwich and a drink at Dave's. The sandwich from Dave's had better bread and more vegetables and was an overall better sandwich. Everyone working there is always friendly and they have the best ice cream. Overcharge one day charge less the next, not accurate pricing. One week the same sandwich will be 7$ and the next time they want to charge $15 for the same thing. Friendly, everything very reasonable in price (deli, wine, & coffee came out to same price as one glass of wine at my hotel!), and quick! I got a turkey sandwich with avocado and it was very bland and the employees weren't that nice. This is the best little market around! Everything they make is fresh, they have everything you could possibly need from small meals, sandwiches, small produce options ,ice cream, fruit etc. and they take such great care of everything. Even their freshly cut fruit is rinsed and ready to eat. Last but not least, the service is beyond exceptional, they treat you with such courtesy like you're at a fine dining restaurant. Stopped by for sour cream, left with vanilla ice cream, caramel ice cream, and a huge homemade ice cream cookie sandwich dipped in chocolate. Out. Of. This. World. Did I miss an article in the newspaper about this? How did I not hear about their ice cream?! Apparently, one of the flavors (espresso?) won double gold at the harvest fair. Asked the Hyatt front desk where the closest market was and he directed us to this little mart just a few blocks down. This is like the 7-11 of Santa Rosa, it pretty much provides your basic essentials - drinks, chips, bars, travel sized toiletries, and some basic fruit (apples and bananas). They even have a deli where they offer ready to order sandwiches. All in all a decent place for a quick pick me up. read more

Just had my first sandwich from this place and it was pretty dang good! I've bought stuff here on several occasions- beer, chips, the occasional Lottery ticket...but never took advantage of their always busy deli. Today, I was driving by and figured- what the heck. Got a turkey sandwich with cheese and avocado and it was pretty awesome! Ingredients were very fresh and flavorful. The bread (dutch crunch) was just "ok" but overall- pretty good! Bonus- the staff is very friendly and the sandwiches are pretty well priced. Beverages can be priced a little steeply, though. I wanted to get my favorite "tea" - Guayaki Yerba Mate- the mint one and they were charging $2.69 for a bottle! Yeeeow! read more

Last weekend I popped in for a sandwich and some fresh berries and wow! What a blast from the past. The sandwich was every bit as good as I remember or better. Between ordering and picking up and paying for my order, a tall gentleman asked me if I needed help finding anything. I love this! Shame on me for making this one of my regular stops for bread, milk, energy drinks, T.P.cereal, cigarettes, wine, , (the basics in our household of 3 adults) and pre-made sandwiches, salads or ribs for a quick between shift meal - leaving time for a quick nap before returning to work. I believe employees at Dave's Market have lied to me more than once. Exhausted, after working my typical two 12 hour split shifts on a job, I made my usual stop in Dave's Market. This market is on my way home, but I live too far away (R.P.) to return these items. Today, 10/7/11, I picked up a salad that had a sticker showing "5 $415". I wasn't sure about that 5, so I asked the plus-sized gal with glasses when the salad was made. She hesitated, and said "it was made today". I said, "but it has a '5' in front of the price." (figuring it was for Oct. 5) She reassured me that it was made today (10/7) and that the discounted priced salads were made yesterday - those stickers were completely torn off of the cartons. That salad was limp and the croutons were soggy. Six months ago Dave talked me out of making a new sandwich in favor of selling me pre-made ones with no dates on them. He said they were freshly made a few hours earlier. I drove home with 2 sandwiches and the ribs he claimed to have just taken out of the oven. The ribs were nothing but SALT and FAT. The sandwich bread was so tough that a serrated knife barely cut through it. Each had one or two thinly sliced piece of turkey and soggy piece of lettuce - a slice of tomato soaked into the bread, but the crust remained "tough".....obviously NOT fresh bread and probably not made 3-4 hours earlier. I always support local businesses first, but DAVE'S MARKET will no longer get my twice a week business ($14-$28 each visit). The $26.00 in question is not a lot out of their profits for sure, but it makes me sick that when they know and greet a repeat customer by name, they try to insult our intelligence. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but it goes: "if it happens once shame on them", if it happens twice shame on me". read more
