After a long, rainy hike in the redwoods, we had to stop in somewhere for a quick bite to eat on our way home, and my husband on a whim, picked ulias. We'd been around before, but most times ended up next door getting mediocre bagels. I'm so glad this time we ended up here! We placed our order for two gyros, and had some pastries to eat while we waited. Mine was so good, I absolutely scarfed it down. The filo crust and walnuts were really tasty and it helped stabilize my blood sugar while I waited for lunch. While waiting I needed to use the bathroom, which ended up being very weird, I needed to trek far and around, go through a secret door with another passcode and another locked door, and had to be let in by staff. Interesting. Also made me miss the retro diner that used to be in this block with amazing malts. Anyway, back to the food. Once I was back, our gyros were ready and they were gorgeous. Mine was in a wheat pita and I asked for extra hummus. His was lamb on white pita and we both tore into them. Baby had some yogurt sauce and some gyro meat and she loved it too! Hubs said it was the best gyro in the county, which is high praise because if gyro's on the menu, he gets it. He reminisces about his time in Greece and is always chasing that illusive perfect pita gyro. Now that we know gyro perfection is here, you better believe we're going to be back. Id so much rather do local business than go to Nick the Greek or some other chain. Even if it does mean having a secret handshake to get into the bathroom club...still worth it. Just had lunch here and it was amazing! The service was friendly, kind and helpful. When I asked what they recommended or what their favorite was they gave me a bunch of suggestions. I told them I wanted a sandwich that was on the lighter side and wouldn't wreck the roof of my mouth, but also had tons of flavor. They recommended the báhn mì because everything is made from scratch. It was their July seasonal sandwich. I'm not usually a báhn mì fan because the bread wrecks my mouth. This sandwich was so good! I ate it so fast because it was that flavorful and perfect. The flavors were so complimentary and not overwhelming. The pork was tender and packed with flavor. Just had the Beef Gyro and oh my goodness, WOW!! Zero qualms with the portion given (it's plenty!). This used to be my go-to spot for large sandwich catering orders. I ordered from them several times and they were always reliable -- definitely a staple for me. Unfortunately, one experience changed that. I placed an order a day in advance and ended up canceling within an hour of placing the order, only to be charged nearly $40 as a cancellation fee. When I asked why, I was told it was because they had already laid out wax paper sheets for 30 sandwiches and created an invoice. I understand businesses have policies, but that reason just felt unreasonable and disappointing, especially given how often I'd ordered from them before. Because of that experience, I've since taken my business elsewhere. There are plenty of other great local spots that are just as good and a bit more understanding when things come up last minute. If it weren't for that one incident, I'd still be ordering and recommending them to others -- but that fee really changed how I see their customer service. read more

Pricey for the amount I'd say. My partner had grabbed a sandwich for me since she was snagging something for lunch at the time. She had gotten me a Jason which had cream cheese, olives, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, and red onion on wheat. The avocado wasn't much, and though the ingredients tasted fresh the flavors didn't blend well for me. It needed a salt or vinegar to balance things out with the veggies. Or even a mayo perhaps. I've had their pesto turkey panini which was yummy, but the thing that blew me away was all of their veggie options. I'm not a vegetarian, but sometimes I like to throw veggie meals in the mix. Outrageously expensive. I came in to get a pita gyro, but left almost as fast when I saw the $18 price tag. I'm pretty sure I never even paid half that for a pita gyro before. Sort of in shock. It's really hard to justify an $18 pita bread sandwich. Gyros used to be affordable lunch fare not that long ago. Probably close to $30 by the time you get a drink and a side and pay tax/tip. Ullia's is the best! The food is high quality and everything always tastes great! The gyro salad is my go-to and absolute favorite. It's filled with tombs of fresh leafy greens, thinly sliced red pinion, olives, red bell pepper slices, tomatoes, a topped with crumbled feta. Lunchtime is usually the busiest so if you're in a rush I suggest calling at least 45 minutes ahead to place an order or you can grab one of the salads in the fridge (they usually have a large and small chopped salad available).
