I have been playing golf since I was 13, with 12 years off recently after a slew of back, neck and shoulder surgeries. The PGA Hope organization gave me an opportunity as a disabled veteran to begin playing again after attending 6 of their 2-hour clinics. Enter Joe. He's a pro at David Ayers Golf. He brought me in for a club fitting as mine were 15 years old and had lost their zip. I got more of a golf lesson than I anticipated. Joe took me through his process and recommended the best clubs for me. Ping-425s. I added a driver a few months later. Once the clubs arrived I went back in for my post-fitting familiarization session with Joe. It was fantastic. I was able to record all of the shots I'd hit and make myself a little chart I carry with me that has all of my new club distances, which has helped immensely as I can now zero in on the green and hit the ball the proper distance. No doubt this has taken a few strokes off my game. Joe gave me confidence and he's a real character. I can really appreciate that as I am one too. Recently I signed up for a series of 3 lessons with another pro, Alan. Alan and I have the unique bond that comes when two old Marines get together. The first place we went was the white board. We talked about all of the combinations of "where" my shots might end up if I wasn't striking the ball consistently. I felt I'd learned a lot just in the first 10 minutes as he guided me through the fundamentals of grip, stance and swing. After an hour and 20 minutes (his next appointment was a no-show and he gladly gave me more of his valuable time, which I truly needed. I walked away far smarter than I ever thought possible after the first real golf lesson of my life. Alan met me where I was. Being Marines he knew he had to break it down as simply as he could and it worked. I was hitting the shots he was telling me to hit!! A fade, a draw both with so much more predictability than I'd ever had before. I even felt younger, like there's more life to my golf game and my life in general for the improved outlook. I'm taking it on the road this week to Albuquerque, where I grew up and will be teeing it up for 18 holes with an old high school buddy. As a result of everything in this review, and more, I feel so much more confident that I'm going to hit fairways and greens regularly. I still have 2 lessons left with Alan and man am I looking forward to them. David Ayers Lowcountry Golf gets as many stars as I can award. The value of these lessons far exceeds the monetary cost. You would do well to check these guys out. My new clubs are awesome. At 64 I can no longer bomb drives 300 yards like I used to, but I can play smarter golf and that is going to melt the extra shots off my game. Tell them that Marty sent you! They'll get a kick out of it. Also, the cost for these new clubs wasn't cheap, but they made me a great deal and let me pay as I went, even giving me the entire set of clubs before I'd finished paying for them. They also gave me great deals on a new bag, new shoes (size 14, but they got em for me, and a new putter. My old putter was 41 years old! It still worked, but this new Odyssey makes more putts than the old one. Go see these folks if you're interested in improving your game and making some awesome new friends for life. I went for a iron fitting in January and they sold me Ping G430's. Not a bad set of irons but the Ping G440, the next generation of clubs had already replaced them. I assume they got a deal selling me the G430's as they charged me the same as the G440 price. Do some research before getting fitted by these people as they may sell you the wrong clubs. read more

I had a custom fitting with Alan. He did a great assessment and ordered me a fine new set. It was easy to schedule fitting on line with text updates and reminders. My only disappointment was the amount that they gave me for the trade in on my used set. Literally pennies on the dollar. I DO NOT recommend trading in your clubs there. If you don't read another review, read this one! I'm a 6 handicap and was looking for a little help with my irons. I got fitted for new irons and absolutely loved a certain model during the fitting. However, once they arrived I found that they were good on my good days but on off days, as us 6 handicappers have occasionally, they were really bad. I went back in to David Ayers and they reassessed. We found an iron that gave me a much more consistent shot pattern, even when not striking the ball perfectly. I was expecting some sort of restocking fee at the least but no. They offered to swap them out at no additional cost because they are the same price. They even let me keep the irons I originally bought to play with until my new ones arrive. They simply said, " hey, we must have just gotten you on a really good day when you were were striking the ball really well." David Ayers is 100% dedicated to customer satisfaction and they go above and beyond in every way. I've worked with several Golf Digest Top 100 fitters over the last decade. None of them come anywhere close to the level of knowledge, professionalism, and service that I've experienced at David Ayers. I've been fitted for woods and irons, and my wife has also. She just got her new irons in and shaved 6 stokes off her game in her first round. As long as I live within a 4 hour drive.....I'll never even consider a different fitter! read more

Walked in at 5:50 on a Friday afternoon in May. No appointment. Asked for an iron fitting. They (Alan) stayed late, spent an hour with me. Put me in a set of Ping I500s. Ordered them on the spot. Ouch expensive (no charge for the club fitting - clubs only - Ping does not discount. Ok fine.) Clubs showed up at my house within 1 week. The 5 iron goes 200 yards - I syn. I have picked up an average of 15 yards per club. Hccp is back to 4. I'm 63. Needless to say, I'm pretty happy with the clubs and the service. These guys are the real deal. I bought a set of second hand clubs from a used sporting goods store and neglected to check that the shafts were matching on the set. Luckily, this golf shop was right down the street; they were able to correct the shaft of the mismached club and re-grip it in 10 minutes. They were super knowledgeable, friendly, and excited to help this novice golfer. They also did it for a super reasonable price, like 20-25 bucks... there is absolutely no way you could find a lower rate online if you tried! read more

This golf shop is not only the BEST club repair in Charleston but the knowledge that the entire golf shop has is second to none. I went in here looking for some custom shafts for my 3 wood and hybrid and their service level blew me away. I had a deadline for them to be finished by and it as met days early. I recently returned for some grips and adjustments to my clubs and David remembered my name. It feels good to in to a place that people know you when you walk in the door. My review of David's shop has nothing to do with David, or the other club-fitting guy with flowing grey hair. David is a talented club fitter with a solid selection of clubs and golf accessories. There's a simulator, a wide selection of golf clubs, the whole nine yards. My issue is with the guys up front who are just short of being completely and utterly worthless. I walk in looking for something simple, and Mr. 14 handicap/ gelled hair is about as friendly as a 1 iron in a lightening storm. I would rather play an entire round with a two iron and a handful of top-flights, than ask this guy for assistance again. I would rather play three consecutive rounds with left-handed clubs than simply walk into that shop one more time. The game of golf will not survive if these stone faced, pro-shop types continue to treat folks as though we don't belong in their company. I spent a couple hours with Alan last Monday getting fitted for a putter and driver. I played on Sunday, first putt 12' for birdie, 2nd putt, 18' for par....best putting day of my life. Not to mention the driver....only got through 12 holes, but had drives of 275, 285, 300, 310 and 325 all in the fairway! I can't wait to come back and get fitted for some irons..... On Tuesday 6/12/18 I had a fitting for a driver. Paul worked with me. I told him i would like to drive more than 175 ( I'm 69) He watched my swing told me how to correct some problems. Then he selected a driver and loft, and had me hit some balls. He spent over an hour with me, and i decided to buy the driver he reccomended. When i got on my home course I averaged 260 yards!! and I had one drive that measured 313 yards!! First class operation. I made an appointment with David a few weeks ago for an iron fitting and was pleased to receive a follow up confirmation call 2 days before my fitting. Upon arrival the staff was very friendly as they looked up my appointment. From that moment forward, I was addressed by name. Very impressive. As far as David and the fitting, I have never felt more comfortable. He took his time in not only the fitting, but he made it a teaching process. I came in hitting my 7 iron 135-150 yards and spraying some a little left but mostly right. I finished the fitting hitting my 7 iron 170-180 yards with a MUCH tighter pattern and mostly a slight draw. Needless to say I also left with a 9 club order and look forward to returning for a putter fitting soon.
