I found Dr Ehsan to be exceptionally professional, skilled, easy to understand, open to questions and friendly. From the front desk (very welcoming and helpful) to the other supporting team members/staff, I felt I was in good hands and was comfortable with the consultation and procedures, while given clear instructions on how to care for my mouth while healing. Very friendly knowledgeable staff. Especially the assistant/hygenist, very good at what she does! Went in for a tooth extraction with gas. Gas was a small part of the charges. Tooth came out super fast, no complications. Unfortunately, I won't go back because I felt the charges were super high for extraction and my dental insurance paid very little, leaving me holding a very expensive bag. Having dental work done is not really anyone's idea of fun and many folks are in serious pain and vulnerable when they come to have work done. Seems like taking advantage. read more

A accident left me missing two teeth and with damage to six more, so I spent ~2.5 years bouncing between half-a-dozen dental specialists. Those many appointments gave me plenty of chances to compare care, and Dr. Ehsan consistently stood out. From the first consult it was clear he knows his craft. Each of the implant surgeries went smoothly, and months later--during an appointment with a different specialist--the endodontist admired how clean the implants looked and asked who had placed them. That quiet compliment spoke volumes. What impressed me even more was how much Dr. Ehsan cared about the bigger picture. He gave me guidance on caring for the facial stitches I'd needed so the scars would heal well, and he called within 24 hours of the oral surgeries to check in on me. When his part of the work was technically finished, he still wanted to see me again after the orthodontist and general dentist were done--just to check that the whole result was what we'd hoped for. His office team deserves their own shout-out. Dealing with my medical insurer (UHC) was harder than any of the three root canals I had, but Myra and the front desk kept at it, calling and re-submitting paperwork until the accident-related costs were covered. I'm sure that persistence saved me thousands of dollars and a mountain of frustration. I hope none of my friends or family ever need oral surgery, but if they do, I'll send them to Dr. Ehsan without a second thought. Kindly, and somewhat desperately, she walked me down to his office at 5:30m while they were closing down, to see if he could consider helping out. He agreed to finish the procedure and we were done in 20 minutes. Incredibly graceful, precise, and had great "bedside manner", so to speak. I had a great initial consultation with Dr. Bakllamaja for an extraction, bone graft & implant (I was supposed to see David Ehsan, but got Dr. Bakllamaja instead). Everything seemed organized and coordinated but I had no idea what this process entailed so I took the information and then talked to my family afterward about their recommendations. There was a very strong push that you have to have anethesia to be put under like you do with surgery but when I asked my friends & family, no one was put under for this same treatment. So I realized I should have asked more about the options and if this had to be done because I have no one to pick me up in Union Square (not convenient) and so that was complicated for me, plus they were charging $1,050 out of pocket for it. So I called in and asked if I could just chat about options with Dr. Bakllamaja. She returned my call and immediately lunged into a rant about using the anethesia and how it's the only way and tried to use fear tactics to get me to agree. She was very defensive and was on this strange hard sell about it. She even started to try and use my own words against me for why this was chosen for me and she was exaggerating to prove her point. I hadn't even said I didn't want it, I just said it's not the most convenient for me and is there a middle option we could do? I wanted to know my options. The one-sided conversation got so uncomfortable and little red flags were firing everywhere in my body so I said, let's table this, I'm going to call my referring dentist to get his opinion and I'll let you know what I decide. I left that call feeling very nervous. Now I was left to decide if I went through with my extraction here b/c I felt like this woman wanted to prove a point to me to have the full anesthesia and be put to sleep for the surgery and maybe she would try to punish me and show me how bad it hurts. I don't know at this point! And TBH - I would love to not have to experience and do the anesthesia but 3 things made me have to ask if it was right for me: 1. The risk of anesthesia & how long my body takes to recover from it 2. Having to be picked up by a friend/family in the middle of the day (almost impossible for me) 3. The add'l cost of $1,050 In the end, I just lost trust in this office completely. So I called around and was shocked to learn their prices overall are just insane! Their bone graft price was DOUBLE (that's $750 extra) and their implant price was 20% more more expensive than another place I called who had nothing but glowing 5 star reviews and the kindest staff when I called in. There just seemed to be a real stigma on this topic of anesthesia at this place and I see that in these reviews, it's definitely suspicious. Consultation: - very friendly informative and well versed. He shows you your pan xray and all the anatomical features of the wisdom teeth in relation to gums, nerves and other boney structures Day of Surgery: made some conversation with Dr. Eshan, was totally nervous but before i knew it, i was asleep then and woke up with gauze in my mouth. My tongue was so numb that i couldnt swallow and choked on food and water. I bled through 3 sets of gauze. pain was ok. Dr. Eshan personally called to check on me in the afternoon. can't believe he understood me with guaze in my mouth, what a pro. POD1: ugh, a little more swollen and still some bleeding POD2: HOLY SMOKES got woken up by a terrible pain but it calmed down after a half tablet of norco and didnt need it for the rest of the time, better to take the ibuprofen on time! at this point i am a borderline chipmunk and everything gets easier from here. just don't eat anything too crispy or crunchy. read more

Words cannot express my appreciation for Dr. Ehsan's office. I came there after having a dental emergency that left me in pain, and traumatized. The entire staff was kind, warm, and made me feel at ease. Especially Myra, who gave me her personal number to text if I had any questions, was unbelievably helpful and understanding. On the one hand, Dr. Ehsan did a very elegant job removing my upper wisdom teeth. He removed the upper wisdom teeth from the side of my mouth, leaving the biting surface less affected, which improved my recovery. I only needed the strong ibuprofen he gave me. On the other hand, consistent with many of the reviews, I found that Dr. Ehsan and his staff were dishonest regarding fees. I have dental insurance, but due to the cost of the surgery, I had to pay $800 out of pocket. I spent a long time understanding the cost of the various aspects of the surgery and why my coverage under my insurance was incomplete. I learned that my insurance does not cover any anesthesia administered prior to the start of the surgery or after the end of the surgery, and that they had only authorized payment for 1 hour of surgery. My portion was related to the additional 30 minutes of anesthesia shown under the treatment plan. I went back to Dr. Ehsan's staff to understand why my insurance was concerned about charges for anesthesia before the start of the surgery or after the end of the surgery. Dr. Ehsan and his staff promised me that no anesthesia would be administered that would be disqualified from coverage, and that they only charged me for the additional 30 minutes of anesthesia as a precautionary matter. They said it was likely the surgery wouldn't take that long and I could be refunded. My surgery took slightly over 45 minutes (from when i was put to sleep to when I woke up). I never received an analysis of the fee after my surgery, so I called the office to ask when to expect my refund for the $800 of anesthesia that wasn't used. I was informed that they did in fact use the additional 30 minutes of anesthesia, even though the surgery was shorter than an hour. In addition, they seemed surprised that I cared or expected an accounting, as though I hadn't paid $800 out of pocket to cover the surgery. At this point I gave up in disgust and just swallowed the cost. To be clear, I felt that the staff adopted a mocking, disrespectful, dismissive tone in these discussions - usually I would keep looking into something like this until it was resolved but they managed to make me so uncomfortable that I couldn't continue. I was referred to Dr Ehsan by my general dentist to remove my long overdue wisdom teeth. I kept putting it off and off. Finally I made an appointment and got it done. I was knocked out during the procedure and woke up feeling a little lightheaded. Straight home I went and I followed the prescriptions and even didn't need to take as many as needed for the pain because after the second day I felt ok. My wisdom teeth were fully ruptured so I don't think it was super traumatic to my gums as when they are growing sideways and still not popped out. I felt like I was back to normal in a few days. Of course I had to follow the regiment and be careful when eating and to rinse as necessary. Dr Ehsan was nothing but professional. Definitely would recommend him to others! read more

Went to Dr. Ehsan on the strength of other Yelp recommendations. I didn't like the experience. His prices are extremely high and while many people love him, I found him to be a little snooty. Different people get rubbed different ways, but I knew a little bit about bone structure and when I asked specific questions, he answered me with general statements and became dismissive. He's helped so many others, but it didn't work out with me and I left after the consultation to find another oral surgeon. When I told him how much Ehsan charges, the second surgeon couldn't believe it. So, one star for you. read more

I recently had a wisdom tooth removed by a different dentist, but it brought back the painful memories of having Dr Ehsan remove my first one, so I thought it prudent to write a review. My experience with him was pretty much like the other people that have given him low ratings. He talks extremely fast and doesn't give you an opportunity to really ask any questions. If you do manage to get a question in his answer is really fast, and generally in a demeaning tone of voice. He told me that "dry sockets are a myth", however I wound up with one despite doing everything I was instructed to. The day of the surgery went fine enough, with the doctor muttering the fewest number of words to me. I felt like I was just another paycheck for him. I'm not sure what he did but my recovery was miserable. It took 2 full weeks to recover. The pain medication they gave me made me sick and when I called in to ask for a different prescription I was told that I would have to come down and there would be an additional charge. An additional charge to write me a prescription, amazing. His prices are far and above some of the most expensive I've ever encountered. Yes, the space is nice, yes he went and got his degrees and has super fancy equipment, but that doesn't entitle him to fleece people. I was there b/c I had no choice and I truly feel that they leveraged that. I would never go see him again, and I would advise others to do your homework and find an oral surgeon that has a better bedside manner and won't try to drain your wallet. Dr. Ehsan is flawless. He has an immaculate office (with quite a view), and a friendly, professional staff. My three visits were concise yet thorough. My consult was easy to schedule, and the staff helped me coordinate both primary and secondary insurance coverage. The procedure itself was almost easy. I got all four wisdom teeth extracted as a 20-something (later than most), and had nearly no swelling and was back at work three days later. The technician walked me through the entire procedure, and Dr. Ehsan chatted with me casually before anesthesia to ensure I was comfortable. My follow-up only took a couple of minutes, and I had very little swelling. Was back at work the following Monday! read more

I wouldn't go back. Although the place is fully equipped with up to date technology and stuff, they are one of the most impatient people I met. Due to medical reason, I have visited many dental offices, but this office, they need to slow down a bit. I can understand that the doctor is popular and super busy, but with the money I pay for, I expected something more. Even for the first consultant, he explained everything so fast, I felt like a whirlwind swept through my brain. Additionally the receptionists or assistants are sooooooooo eager to get rid of you. I don't know how he received such good reviews so far. Basically this is how I felt. I went there, meaning they already have a hold of my money. Provide everything as quick as possible to get rid of me so that they can move onto the next pocketful of money. They do it with smile, thinking that will make everything polite and courteous. My regular Dentist sent me to this office in lots of pain to have a wisdom tooth pulled, and it did not happen... i left that office in lots of pain and a sad experience. I'm sure this dentist is competent BUT my experience was the worst! I was charged almost $600 for an x-ray and 4-5 min of his time talking to me. I went in with an ex-ray from dentist and Dr Eshan looked at it for 10 seconds, then at my mouth for 10 seconds and said I should come in again. The bill $218. I had my wisdoms done by Dr. Ehsan over a year ago. I picked him out of the Delta Dental providers because his name is a word in Urdu and means to do someone a favor or to relieve someone... Boy did I luck out! He's a smart cookie...I tried to pull a fast one over him (I didn't have anyone to drive me back home and I was going to just take Muni back but he's hella sneaky and made me call someone who had to talk to his assistant and fricking come upstairs to get me.) Also, I forgot my instructions and ate some food before my surgery but when I remembered, I drank a ton of water and threw it up. My uncle who is an MD told me not to go ahead with the surgery because if you have food in your system and you are under anasthesia, you can drown in your vomit or something...I told Dr. Ehsan about the morning and told him that I could NOT take any other days off for a while and he laughed and said "OK, we won't put you under that much..." Whatever he did, I didn't feel it. My mouth healed fine, I lost 15 lbs and I didn't have to take any time off work. And, thanks to Dr. Ehsan, my drugged up ass didn't get kidnapped off the MUNI and murdered with my corpse to be found in Golden Gate Park! read more

I paid premium for my dental implant, but it wasn't done right. Dr David Ehsan placed it way off center for no good reason and assured me that's not a big deal and that its within the acceptable boundaries. The crown now collects food and requires constant flossing to prevent bad breath. The dentist who installed the crown and my regular dentist commented on the crappy job Dr Ehsan did. I was wowed by Dr. Ehsan and his team (which seems silly to say because really, who is wowed by any component of oral surgery?). I was referred to him by Dr. Rahbar, my dentist over on Kearny, for removal of a wisdom tooth. During my consultation, I was greeted warmly, costs were explained thoroughly, and the assistant doing my x-rays was clearly a pro, even figuring out how to maneuver my nearly-irremovable piercings out of the way so they wouldn't interfere with the images. Then Dr. Ehsan met with me, went over my health history, explained the procedure he expected, and his front desk set up the surgery date. I was more than adequately prepared for the surgery by Dr. Ehsan's team -- they gave a lot of pre information -- and day of was nervous but for an anxious person like me, I think it was a normal-person's amount of nervousness, which felt amazing. The staff prepped me, talked to me warmly (we discussed running) and literally Dr. Ehsan came in, said hello, asked me questions about my job and then....I was waking up. Easy-cheesy. In the most classy move of all time, Dr. Ehsan called me later that night to check in on me, tell me about the procedure (it had gone fine) and see if I had any questions. Seriously, this was what tipped the scale from "great experience" to "WOW experience." During recovery, I did have a question and called the office -- the staff was able to provide an answer, and did so without judgment in their voice (always nice when you're calling and trying to discuss business you don't know how to describe...like anything mouth-related, in my case). Had my 5, yes five, wisdom teeth removed. He is pretty robotic in the way he interacts with you and works. I was not looking for a new friend so this is ok. I too was fleeced by the consultation. Told it was $x and then got a further bill for $150 a few weeks later. I bit the bullet and had the op just before my dental insurance changed to a lower plan. Everything went fine and so I will give him 3 stars. He does come across pretty slick and senseless. As in he is doing it for the money and not really the care. You can tell he says the exact same spiel to each patient. At the consultation he literally saw me for 4-5 minutes and then shook my hand and left. The follow-up appointment was the same length. A quick look in the mouth and on my way with a water syringe to purge the wholes of any food whilst they heel. Was happy to receive a call from him the evening of my operation. He was driving home and called to check in. Nice touch. I would recommend him, just don't expect a super caring individual. My regular dentist, Michael Gamboa, is amazing. I would like to give more stars for the procedure, as my tooth extraction was easy and well done, but buyer beware with charges and out of pocket expenses even within your insurance network. I chose Dr. Ehsan, as he was in my dental network. I was asked to pay almost $900 up front, something my insurance said he was not allowed to ask for as a contracted dentist. Then when my insurance paid for all of the services, they help onto my money for a full month, claiming the doctor only signed overpayment checks once a month. When I got my payment it was still short and I am currently appealing my insurance to get the money back they still owe me. If you are looking for a dentist in your network, I would call your insurance first and ask what he can take up front, get a pre-authorization, and hope you don't get scammed out of money. read more

This guy is all about taking care of business which I love. My consultation was informative. Even though I played devil's advocate, Dr. Ehsan answered all my questions professionally and thoughtfully and even drew diagrams on my x ray to explain why I needed my wisdom teeth removed. The only thing that bothered me was that he assured me that dry sockets don't exist when in reality there are medical studies and articles about them everywhere. When I got into the surgery room, I almost forgot I was being put under. The nurses were so great at taking my mind off of things and actually made me laugh. When the doctor came in he also made an effort to distract me as they were setting up the IV and what not. Dr. Ehsan is both the oral surgeon AND the anesthesiologist which I found to be quite impressive. As an anesthesiologist he knew what he was doing as well. I dont even remember going to sleep and when I woke up I actually was actually somewhat aware but yet still pain free. The days following surgery went exactly as he said they would which was that I would see swelling the second day and even more swelling and max pain on the third day and that it would all go down from there which is exactly what happened. I do however think I had a dry socket which he still insisted doesn't exhist because I had so much pain that it made me cry on the third day. Overall Dr. Ehsan was extremely professional and got the job done as quickly and almost as painlessly as possible. He even called me at home the night of my surgery to make sure I was feeling ok and to answer any questions that I may have had in a more sober state of mind. I would say he is a great oral surgeon because he did his job but I have less range of motion in my jaw now since the surgery and that was never mentioned to me as something that could potentially happen. read more

My 4 wisdom teeth were fully erupted but had a lot of decay, so my dentist referred me to David Ehsan to get them removed. The staff was incredibly friendly and walked me through all the details about the pricing, risks, preparation, surgery and follow-up. General anesthesia made the 60 minute surgery quick and painless, like falling asleep for 5 minutes. They wouldn't let me keep the teeth because blood is a biohazard, but they were nice enough to let me take a picture. Dr. Ehsan called me the night after the surgery to make sure everything was ok. Afterwards, I recovered surprisingly fast. I was off all pain meds after 1 day and back to normal activities after 2 days. read more

Who would have thought getting wisdom teeth out could result in you receiving the best service possible. Dr. Ethsan's office is as good as it gets folks, the service is impeccable, he does a great job of educating you on exactly what's going to happen and this definitely helps to calm the nerves. I came in for a consultation about 6 weeks before the surgery to get xrays taken and have Dr. Ethsan give his prognosis. I decided to have the removal take place at 8am on a Friday so that I could minimize the time I needed to take off work. Here's how the removal process played out: - 7:45am, arrive at the office. - 8:00am, give the nurse my very generous friend's cell phone number so she could call my friend about 10 mins before I was ready to be picked up. - 8:05am, Dr. Ethsan arrives and starts asking me questions to distract me from the IV going into my arm. - 8:05am - 9:15am: I have no idea since I was completely knocked out. - 9:20am: Friend comes in and picks up This was easily the most pain free dental experience I've ever had. The nurse even called the pharmacy near my house ahead of time so my friend and I could pick up the necessary drugs without having to wait around. If a friend ever asks me about having their wisdom teeth removed I'll most certainly steer them towards Dr. Ethsan and his team. Absolutely fantastic experience. Tooth extraction freaks me out, and so does general anesthesia. My dentist recommended Dr. Ehsan to remove a lower wisdom tooth. I'm 50 years old and was particularly concerned about complications. Since tooth extraction freaks me out more than general anesthesia, I opted for the latter at my own expense. My insurance would only cover general anesthesia if I was having two or more wisdom teeth removed. Dr. Ehsan's fees may or may not be higher than others (see other posts); I was motivated to get it over with and didn't shop around (not even Yelp). I have no regrets. Dr. Ehsan's staff and processes were efficient from tip to tail. They communicated with my insurance company ahead of time and were able to schedule me for the procedure within a few days, which was very much appreciated since I was in pain. I appreciated Dr. Ehsan's candor with respect to explaining the procedure and the risks. He explained everything clearly, quickly and without condescension. They provided me with printed materials and enrolled me in a web-based flash tutorial explaining everything again (albeit more generically). On the day they repeatedly confirmed what procedure they were doing and that I understood it. The extraction was done three days ago without pain and without complications. Dr. Ehsan himself called me at home that night to follow up. When i told him I had no pain or swelling he warned me that there may still be discomfort the next day, but there was none. I did take the prescribed Vicodin twice after the procedure to stay ahead of the pain, but I'm convinced that it wasn't necessary. I'd recommend Dr. Ehsan any time. read more

And, they do threaten collections, despite keeping wrong records. I am scared of dentists and oral surgeons. My last experience with them was when I was elementary school going to an Army dentist for a cleaning and fillings. The blood and pain and sound were terrifying and I haven't been back until just this last month. I needed my wisdome teeth removed and my amazingly gentle dentist recommended Dr. Ehsan, vouching for his speed and gentleness. Everyone was friendly and soothing and sympathetic to my fears without being patronizing. The first visit was my consultation and I was scanned and, sure enough, all the wisdom teeth were pushing against my other teeth, one had roots about to push into a nerve, and one had a huge cavity because I could never get the toothbrush back there. Dr. Ehsan explained everything about wisdom teeth in general and about my case in particular. He explained that, while I was starting to get on the cusp of extraction difficulty (jawbones get pretty hard after 30 years old) I was very healthy and everything else looked peachy. He that general anaesthetic was an option since I was getting all 4 done and especially considering my fear of dentists. I heartily agreed. So this Thursday I went in famished and dehydrated (no eating/drinking for 6 hours) and ready to get this done so I could have some water. I quelled the butterflies in my stomach and everyone was great at being soothing and informative and lighthearted. The nurse that helped me (I'm sorry i don't remember you name but I love your freckles) was so wonderful to me and had me relaxed and calm in no time. The last thing I remember was Dr. Ehsan saying "now I'm going to hook this to your IV, it's the anesthesia so just float into it and let it do its thing..." I woke up an hour later to the sweet nurse saying that my ride was waiting and that she was going to take the monitors off of me. I was blearily happy and she let me fiddle with the light as she worked. I stopped bleeding a few hours later, could drink water immediately and was eating chicken and rice soup and tuna udon (I was really hungry) by 8pm. Today the swelling is almost completely gone and the only thing that's uncomfortable is where the teeth used to be (hello, Hydrocodone!). I was really nervous about taking out my wisdom teeth when I heard all the horror stories of looking like a chipmunk and not being able to eat for a week from friends. However, I was very, VERY impressed with Dr. Ehsan. Dr. Ehsan was friendly, professional, and very patient. He made sure that all of my questions were answered. I could tell that he was very confident with what he was doing. He made sure that I was taken care of. Before the surgery, his staff made sure someone was going to pick me up. They gave me all the information I needed. Right before the procedure, Dr. Ehsan was making conversation with me and before I knew it, I woke up and all my teeth were out. The night after the procedure, Dr. Ehsan even CALLED me to see how I was doing and asked if I had any questions. That really blew me away. As for my recovery. I had 1 impacted, 1 partially impacted, and 2 normal ones. I started to eat solids 2 days later. I took the medications as prescribed and no one could tell I had my teeth taken out. This is a large contrast to some of my friends who said they were practically bed-ridden for the first week. After my follow-up appointment, I overheard a girl saying to a staff member that she came back for a second follow-up appointment just in case and the staff member welcomed it. If you have questions or want to be seen again for follow-up, you can go back free of charge. They really want to make sure you are happy and worry-free. The staff is really friendly and super helpful. They dealt with my insurance the entire time and made everything hassle-free for me. I highly recommend Dr. Ehsan! read more

Dr. Ehsan and his staff are simply the best. I had an implant procedure done last year, and it was a shockingly pleasant experience. I ended up with very little soreness after, and Dr. Ehsan's work healed extremely well and quickly. His staff is amazing as well; they have totally advocated for me with my stupid insurance company, tirelessly making the calls back and forth to get insurance issues cleared up. (If I could rate Blue Shield Dental insurance on Yelp, I would rate them as "Cannot Believe How Much They Suck, minus the one person at the company who tried to help me but also was amazed at how poorly I was treated..." Anyway, back to Dr. Ehsan. If you have any dental surgery issues, just go to him. He's fast, professional, and personable. I just had a second implant procedure today, and we'll see how it heals, but at least for now, the surgery itself was fine. And I just want to address some of one-star reviewers who are miffed at his prices. Ladies and Gentlemen, FYI: dental issues and procedures are not cheap. I saved my money for 5 years to have this stuff done because my insurance wouldn't pay for it; they recently changed their agreement with my employer to cover up to $1000.00, which is great, but I still had to pay the balance. I don't think that Dr. Ehsan is outrageously more expensive than any other oral surgeon in SF. Whatever. He's really good and his staff is really good. Go there. read more

Hands down best Oral Surgeon in the city. Sorry for those that didn't have a good experience but glad to see that that Dr. Ehsan has high star ratings because from the moment I called crying in pain to leaving after having two extractions, my experience was awesome. The front staff one of them goes by annie I believe, was professional yet sweet and caring at the same time. She empathized with me and how much pain I was in. She explained the cost in detail and what insurances covers and what I would have to pay out of pocket. She was genuine and had a warm caring attitude. The gentleman that took my x-ray was a very patient sweet man. Now lets talk about Dr. Ehsan, he is professional and explains the x-ray very well in addition to the treatment plan. I like the fact that he gave me 3 options for the treatment plan and gave me the autonomy to decide what was convenient and made sense to me. As a person working the medical field, I must say this was an amazing experience considering the acute situation I was in. I would recommend Dr. Ehsan and his team to anyone needing Oral Emergency Care. Best part is he called later that evening to follow up and remind me of the post extraction care including icing and medications. read more

They are very accommodating when scheduling appointments. Dr. David Ehsan is friendly as well. Dr. Eshan and his staff has been wonderful. I'm still in the middle of my recovery so I will try to update my review when I feel perfectly better. I just got my surgery on Friday (3 days ago) and I'm still swollen up on my face. Not that Dr. Eshan didn't do a great job but because I did two wisdom teeth removal, two molar extraction, and two cornatomy(sp?) (cutting the crown of the wisdom teeth off because they were too close to my nerves). Dr. Eshan was fantastic, he took all the time to answer all the questions I had. As most people, I can't have all my questions grouped together in one session because they really come as times goes. I was welcomed to call the office anytime I had a question and the staff kindly took their time to answer them and if they do not know the answer, they would consult with Dr. Eshan himself. Not once they make me sound like I was asking any stupid questions and when I was totally nervous about the procedure, they assured me that it was normal and tried to guide me through the whole process. I had the special request of not seeing any needles going into me and they happily compiled. They helped me dealt with all the insurance, appointments, and calling my ride to pick me up after the procedure. It was such a pain free process (since I already have to dealt with the literally pain), they really ease everything else as much as possible for me. Dr. Eshan might be a little bit more expensive than other oral surgeons, but he really knows what he's doing and I can't ask for a more confident doctor. The best part is, he called the night after my procedure for a follow up and to see if I have any further questions and reminded me what to expect for the next couple of days. I could not be more pleased with Dr. Ehsan and his clinical and office staff. I have one implant he placed a couple of years ago that is wonderful and am in the process of getting two more. He's not the cheapest, and getting an implant is a last resort sort of decision, but if you have existing teeth that are just beyond saving, it's the best option, and Dr. Ehsan does great work. His office runs like clockwork and the whole process is smooth, efficient, and as pleasant and painless as such work can be. You are in good hands with Dr. Ehsan. read more

I went to Dr. Ehsan to have all FOUR of my wisdom teeth extracted and believe it or not, I was actually Vicodin free during recovery. Woooo-and may I add...Hoooo! :) On Dec. 30th, I called to make an appointment for a consultation and they were able to see me the next day, Dec. 31st! The staff was very friendly and Dr. Ehsan was very knowledgeable and very informative. He rushes, as all doctors, but he still answers all of the questions thoroughly. Also, they set up a virtual tutorial of the surgery online for you and you have about a month to view it. This was very informative, so props for that! Payment: If you ask them (or they'll probably offer) to contact your insurance company to make sure how much you will have to pay out of pocket, don't wait for Dr. Ehsan's staff to call you about the estimate; call your insurance company yourself. I was told I'd get a call back, but it took over a month and when I called my insurance company, it turned out that they sent all the info a few weeks ago. So, definitely call your insurance company yourself. Also, the insurance company will usually cover 30 minutes of the surgery, because they think 30 minutes is enough time to remove all four wisdom teeth. This may be so, yet I would rather pay a little extra than to have problems with my teeth in the future. In fact, apparently I was overcharged and Dr. Ehsan sent me a check for $50 to correct this. Surgery: I was asleep and didn't feel a thing. All I had was swelling and morning headaches, yet Motrin helped with the headaches. My cheeks and lips were swollen and I had a bruise on my left cheek for a few days. The follow up appointment is a week later and Dr. Ehsan goes over how you should take care of your mouth for another week or two. Bottom line, I highly recommend this doctor and again, please contact your insurance yourself to find out the estimate of how much they will cover. Best of luck! read more

I am writing this review as an MD doctor board certified in Internal Medicine, specializing in gastroenterology. In my opinion, Dr. Ehsan is THE BEST oral/implant surgeon in San Francisco. His stellar reviews that you see on here do NOT lie and I know this from personal experience after having my #15 molar extracted by him. Due to my busy residency hours, I had neglected this tooth that had had a root canal which I never got crowned. The temporary filling had long fallen out and the decay had eaten its way all the way through the tooth. I knew I had done a bad thing and was very apprehensive about seeing a dentist. The excellent dentist I selected (Dr. Matthew Keyser--see my great review of him) referred me to Dr. Ehsan for extraction of the tooth and implant later down the road. I was very happy and relieved that Dr. Keyser had chosen him since in my exhaustive search to first find a primary dentist, Dr. Ehsan's name always came up at the top of every list with the best reviews under oral surgeons. When Dr. Keyser's office called him and expressed my concern about the tooth getting worse, Dr. Ehsan's office told me to just walk 5 blocks down to his office and they would see me right away. I was amazed at their efficiency and I was concerned about this with my busy fellowship medical training schedule. Dr. Ehsan and his staff NEVER ONCE implied that I was an idiot or "did this to myself" (which I sort of did--let's face it). I truly appreciate their professionalism on the matter. Dr. Ehsan explained to me why I needed the extraction and that the implant was the superior choice afterwards. As a fellow MD, I really appreciated his dual background as a DDS AND MD--it really showed. I then talked to his staff who clearly delineated all the financial costs of my treatment plan, which made me feel at ease that I wasn't getting cheated. YES it is true, it was pricey, but in my opinion, WELL WORTH the money--how can you put a price on your teeth which you will have and need for life? I explained to his staff that I was concerned this needed to get done ASAP and I personally had to perform a great number of procedures on patients the following week (I was seeing him on a Friday the week before this busy week). His staff person left to talk to him, then came back and informed me Dr. Ehsan was willing to extract the tooth that very same day. AMAZING! I really appreciated this. The procedure itself was SO EASY. I admit as a doctor I am much less squeamish than the average person, but I only used local anesthesia and it was absolutely no problem at all. He was very efficient, from the extraction, to the bone grafting, to the suturing. He talked me through the entire procedure with ease. He gave me vicodin but it is now 4 hours after the procedure and I haven't used it at all (though remember I had had a root canal before so not much feeling left there). I was so comfortable RIGHT AFTER the procedure that I literally walked out and decided to go straight to the movie theater to watch a movie. Also, you may be interested to know that he also is on the Delta Dental PPO list, if this matters to anyone (it did to me since that is my insurance). Bravo to Dr. Ehsan and his staff. I look forward to our appointments in the future when I get my implant placed. I'm confident he will do a stellar job. I'll let everyone know how it goes! read more
