I had full jaw surgery back in 2021. I wanted to wait until I was out of braces to write this review. From the beginning it felt like I was one of his first patients that he performed this surgery on. A few simple appointments to begin with no issues. I was told by his office to get all my prescriptions before my surgery and turns out that they were wrong. Some of my meds expired and had to get new ones day after surgery. Come to the day after surgery it was horrible. The hospital stay was very bad. In a very small room they crammed two beds. My area was so small the nurse couldn't get to the side of my bed to help me take my meds or provide assistance eating. With your jaw wired shut it is hard to that stuff solo. In the 60 hours or so that I was in there they switched out my roommate 3 times in the middle of the night, no sleep to be had. I got out of there ASAP. After hospital Dr. wanted to see me. Getting to his office some unaware female attendant I could see she was mocking me with a wrap on my face and extremely swollen. He checked me out and said everything looks ok. When my orthodontists looked at the work 1 week after surgery he wanted to adjust the positioning of my jaw so that his work would be good but the surgeon said to not move anything. I guess there was a lack of communication between the two of them on what was needed. Moving forward to today, I have no feeling in my upper pallet, lower gums, and lower lip. I have a area along my jaw line where the gum never covered the bone (I think I broke a stitch having to feed myself at the hospital.) My left side of my my bite it slightly open. I tried twice to have the doctor look at my gum and a day before each appointment he cancelled. I have do drive 2 hours from Sac. to get to his office and that is me taking a day off of work. When he cancelled these appointments I had to take a day off of work unpaid, thanks doc! In hind sight I wish I would have listened to my ortho and got insurance that this procedure was covered by a local doctor and that has tried and true experience in total jaw surgery. If I would have done that my ortho and the surgeon would have a working relationship and I am sure the out come would have been better. Went in for wisdom teeth removal x4. First off, I would like to thank the receptionist/insurance expert who guided us throughout the entire process (which took several months because insurance in this country is evil). Despite my attempts at getting clear answers from Guardian and from my primary care dentist, the only person I ultimately was able to trust to give me correct information on how much this process would cost and when I could get the surgery done was this woman. Thanks to her, despite not having prior authorization from my insurance and the wrong paperwork sent from my primary care dentist, I was able to get the procedure done same-day anyway (which was important to me bc I came from out of town). She called my primary care dentist and straightened things out with them. She took the time to answer all my questions about how much insurance would reimburse me and which parts of the procedure were necessary and which were optional. Ultimately, I ended up being able to essentially customize my procedure according to my budget. Thanks almost entirely to her, I was able to pay about $2500 out of pocket at time of service and got reimbursed by insurance several months later for about $2000. I appreciated her help immensely and am thankful for her guidance. Regarding the procedure itself: standard wisdom teeth extraction. Dr. Rabinovich and his assistants made everything super easy and smooth. Procedure took max 3 hours. Recovery process was smooth but painful (as expected). Staff answered all my questions. Special shout out to one of his dental assistants who was SUPER kind to me and had such a positive and caring attitude. I appreciated her company and help as well. read more

I've been prepping for jaw surgery for over two years. I've gotten all the necessary tests to validate a sleep apnea condition, completed the orthodontia, been in communication with the Dr. Rabinovich's office, and even changed insurance plans multiple times to try to get this covered. Until today, I've been pretty happy with the service, despite some issues with appointments that ran a couple hours overtime, due to his staff not knowing how some machines worked and not being able to find someone else to resolve, but I figured at the time that "things happen." So, I let it go. I wrote a review earlier to indicate that I was happy, however... In the week before my surgery, NO ONE from his staff contacted me with pre- or post-op instructions, including time sensitive bloodwork requirements and prescriptions that needed to be special-ordered. I had to run them down to give me this information, and when I called his office to ask, they all seemed confused about when my surgery was happening. Eventually, they gave me everything (minus the notice that I needed to get bloodwork done...), but I was starting to get very on edge that this all wasn't sent to me automatically. Two months-ish prior to surgery, I assisted his office with getting the procedure codes cleared, including some that were initially denied, and I also negotiated with insurance to cover the genioplasty, which is normally cosmetic. I was told that the genioplasty would cost $7,000 out-of-pocket, and then after the claim was submitted, insurance would reimburse. I prepped for that. I got an UNSIGNED email a few days ahead of the surgery from Rabinovich's office that several codes aren't approved, and they need me to send them ~$25,000 immediately, or we can't move forward. They even went so far as to lecture me that I "need to be financially prepared," despite the fact that they more than tripled the expected cost we discussed earlier, and they also want that entire amount IMMEDIATELY. I told them no, and that I would fix it with insurance. They ignored that and tried to bargain with me to send them $12,000 immediately instead, as if that was somehow a bargain and they're doing me a favor. The wording on that was that the doctor has "graciously decided to allow you to pay only $12,000 now..." How magnanimous of him. I call insurance, and they said that Rabinovich's office didn't submit the codes previously, which is why they weren't part of the original approval...? I work with the insurance company right away to get them to reach out to his office to complete the steps to get it approved ASAP. I had to drop everything at work to make this happen and spent the rest of the day nervous, nauseous and crying. I threw up later that night from the stress. The next day, Cigna notifies me that his staff is refusing to work with them to get it fixed, and his office insisted again that they wanted me to send $12,000 immediately to move forward. They even tried some weird form of reassuring me that "insurance would pay me back." Um, no. I talked to Rabinovich himself on the phone, and I indicated I had exactly one minute before I needed to get to another meeting. He gave me some lame excuses about why they won't work with my insurance to get these codes covered and reiterated that they just want me to pay them immediately, and he even said something like "this isn't about money," although he complained several times that insurance doesn't pay him well and how much he deserves to be paid...I eventually had to basically yell at him that I was late for a meeting to get him to stop and let me drop off the call. I had to cancel my surgery with them today due to this, and it's thrown thousands of dollars and years of prep-work down the drain. I told his office several times, too, that I'm the plan administrator for my work's insurance plan, and we're self-insured. So, I have the ability to authorize claims, even if they're denied, but Rabinovich's staff either kept ignoring me or talking over me that I need to send them large sums now or no-go. They're unprofessional, uncooperative and completely out of line in the way they treated me. Don't bother with his office. They will make your life way more difficult than it needs to be. read more

As other review states, was also left with complete numbness of tongue after signing a brief consent for a wisdom tooth extraction. The procedure was done quickly and without care. As someone who was terrified of having her first dental procedure ever, I have had a wonderful experience with Dr. Rabinovich and all his staff. I came in for a second opinion for the removal of my two lower wisdom teeth. The front of the house staff were able to fit me in within a couple of days of contacting them,and due to my pain, were able to schedule the surgery 2 days after the consultation. I was never pressured to opt in for unnecessary/extra procedures, and they were willing to accommadate my preference for nitrous oxide over general anesthesia. During my consultation, Dr. Rabinovich caught an infection on my panoramic x-ray that my first oral surgeon had completely missed. They were happy to use the X-rays and 3D CT scans from my previous oral surgeon in order to make sure my insurance didn't charge me in full for new ones. Unlike my previous oral surgeon, Dr. Rabinovich went into detail about coronectomies vs. extractions and helped me make an informed decision of my treatment plan. The actual surgery went very well. Dr. Rabinovich is great at explaining possible outcomes and options for treatment, as well as any difficulties that could possibly arise during the surgery. He makes sure that you're completely comfortable with the treatment plan before continuing forward. One of my wisdom teeth was exrtremely close to a nerve, however, he was able to take the entire tooth out without any problems. The surgical staff was calm and helpful in assuaging any concerns I had pre and post surgery. They explained what to expect the day of the surgery during my consult and what to keep in mind after the surgery to ensure proper healing. They have been very transparent about cost and coverage by insurance and had helped me figure out if my consukt was covered by insurance (it was covered 100%). They are also extremely responsive after the surgery and quick to respond to any questions over text, email, or phone that I've had about pain and how to manage it. They were able to book me in for a checkup to assuage my concerns earlier than the regular 2 week post-op check as well. I wish I could leave a 0 star. this office is absolutely horrible, complete butchers. on a simple wisdom teeth extraction my mouth has been made much worse off than prior to surgery. Half of my tongue has gone numb, I asked for all possible risks going into the surgery and this was not mentioned at all. they could not send in prescriptions ahead of time, so I was thrown out into the world in an insane amount of pain and had to navigate to the pharmacy after the surgery to get my prescriptions. unreal. after a month+ of realizing my tongue had been destroyed Alex said he would refer me to a second opinion at UCSF. the referral was not sent to the correct office so I spent hours trying to figure out the correct fax number for his office to send it to. as if they have never sent a referral to UCSF before?! I believe they were lying to my face. once I tracked down the correct phone number and made sure they sent it, UCSF said the hand writing was ineligible and needed to be re-written. this is where I currently find myself. I was referred to this office through my employer and am making sure they will never send anyone here again. Aside from all this, the office is not well-kept. all the chairs seems to be falling apart, I am sure the business just churns through unknowing patients and have very little return patients. The office is also in a very tough area to park and they do not validate parking, a small detail that reveals their willingness to cut-corners to save a buck. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I had an all-on-four teeth implants surgery completed in one day. I went to few dentists prior to get an estimate cost, level of expertise, professionalism of the staff, and the time- estimated three to six months process. I found Dr. Alex Rabinovich, staff, and facility were the best. I had eighteen teeth painlessly removed. The preparation, surgery, and implants took about 8.5 hours. I was able to eat lightly that night, but chose a protein shake due to my face, cheeks, and jaw were still numb. Final thoughts: Full set of teeth you can proudly smile in public. The cost is expensive, which is relative to wanting the best. No pain chewing nor problems eating. But the con of acrylic implants- they are very fragile. No hard food. I cracked three bottom, and one top set. You must be very mindful of the chewing pressure. Dr. Rabinovich and staff were very responsive and fix the issues immediately. Highly recommend to get titanium teeth set and this dentistry. read more

Long story short, my orthodontist said braces alone was not going to fix my open bite. I would require jaw reconstruction surgery to fix it. So I asked my orthodontist if he had a list of providers who can perform this surgery and that is where I found Dr. Rabinovich. Setting up an appointment was fairly easy. It has been over two years but first impression was Dr. Rabinovich could have explained his approach with greater detail. If I were a regular person I would have just left his office not knowing what he was going to do but it was going to require surgery. I've had other surgical procedures done and the surgeons always explain in great detail what it is they will do. But since I work in the OR I already knew what would happen the day of my surgery and what it was that needed to be done. I do remember his office being busy, they charged me for the CT scan that they didn't even do that day. I kept on reminding them that they charged me for it but never took the scan, ultimately, I think they did the scan on my 2nd or 3rd appointment. His office also tends to overbook him. I want to say 80 percent of the time I'm always waiting on Dr. Rabinovich for over 30 minutes. He goes in one room then pops into another and another. Not quite finishing what he started. I do remember at two of my appointments I waited over an hour for Dr. Rabinovich to see me, I believe he was on the phone both times. I'm usually not one to get upset but those two appointments I was ready to walk out. If I were to rate his office it would be a 2/5 and I'm being nice on that rating. His overall work on my jaw was fine. 4/5 I actually got to pick my anesthesiologist, Circulating nurse and scrub tech for my surgery. They told me that Dr. Rabinovich knows what he was doing and to be at ease at how the operation went. The only issue I have is that one of the screws he put in seems protruded, but it's not noticeable unless I press down on my nose. I do still have some numbness on my lower lip but I'm hopeful it will come back. I do wish he tells his future patients that this is a major surgery and will require you to at least take 3-4 months off of work. He had initially told me I could go back to work in about 3-4 weeks but I was persistent in asking for 12 weeks off. All my colleagues at work said I should have asked for longer since this is a major surgery. I do have to say that his assistant Adrienne is AMAZING! She is on top of everything. Even going after Dr. Rabinovich on some of my appointments. If she were to work in the OR she would be amazing! If you do go forth with Dr. Rabinovich ask as many questions. read more

From the day before surgery, when he called me personally to check in, to him checking up on me and speaking with my family while in recovery, to his consistent availability and willingness to have me come in when I was scared of something post operatively, to his responsiveness via email when I had a question (I have had a lot during recovery and often still do 2.5 months later), I couldn't be more happy and have been impressed with his communication. Everyone here is very kind, patient, and professional! I always feel at ease coming here. They tech they use is up to date and modern. I came for a wisdom teeth extraction for all 4 teeth. The first appointment, they took a panoramic X-ray that was about 60 seconds. Then they examined my mouth and let me know what the plan was. When it came time to go in, everyone was also quick and painless! The needle for the IV in the beginning really was the most painful part. After that, I woke up 30 minutes later and it was done! They gave me my 4 teeth, all intact which was impressive. It's been a day and I've been icing, so I'm not really swollen at all anymore! The pain meds, ibuprofin, and antibiotics has been keeping everything in control. I'll be back to work tomorrow with no pain which is amazing! There was a misunderstanding with my insurance and they handled it well. It's been about 7 months now and the implants have settled in nicely . I went back and forth on whether I should post this review but felt like it could help others. I was referred to Dr. Rabinovich by my orthodontist regarding double jaw surgery. I filled out forms weeks prior to the appointment with my insurance information and was told that I needed to call back again the week of the appointment after they have checked my insurance coverage to see how much I would pay for a consult. I called them the week of my appointment and they said that since I have cigna which is in-network I would most likely only have to pay the $30 copay but refused to give me a definitive answer. I found this a bit concerning but figured its just an in-network consultation so it probably will just be $30. Fast forward to the day of the appointment, they have me pay $679 upfront because they still haven't checked with my insurance. Why couldn't they just sent a claim with my insurance first like every other doctor/hospital? Anyways, it was $285 for the consultation, $375 for a CT scan, and $19 for PPE. When I asked on the phone prior to the appointment about what I could possibly be charged for they didn't mention the CT scan OR the PPE. I also asked for an itemized bill to be emailed to me which I never received. So I went and got the CT scan. I talked to someone else who got this scan at Dr.Rabinovich's who then brought it to another doctor at Stanford who said it was so low quality it was useless. Finally I meet Dr. Rabinovich and I felt like he was very knowledgable, kind, and not pushy at all. He offered two different surgical solutions to my problem, a more aggressive DJS, and a less aggressive surgery that would just fix most of the cosmetic issues. He also said I could opt to do no surgery so I appreciated his honesty there. He mainly looked at my face and barely glanced at the scan. Overall I thought Dr. Rabinovich was great, so this rating is not really a reflection of him as a surgeon. What ultimately made me decide against going forward with the surgery here is his office's billing practices and billing assistant Alla. She was extremely aggressive about making me decide right then and there which surgery option I wanted to go forward with. I said that I would like to know the cost with insurance and without insurance and she refused to give me either or even discuss how I could get an approximate number. She said that I would have to commit to a surgery first before they would figure it out with my insurance. But how can I commit to a surgery if I wouldn't know if it would cost 11k or 30k? Regardless, they should know the out of pocket cost without insurance. Also this is a major surgery and her attitude towards making me rush to a decision made me extremely uncomfortable and was too sales-ey. Their billing practices very much did not sit well with me, so I called my insurance company soon after. They confirmed that these billing practices are extremely unusual and they were shocked that not only did they make my pay upfront for the visit, but that they charged me more than the copay when they knew in fact that they were in network. Also, they performed a CT scan without asking for approval from my insurance company first (despite already having my insurance info for weeks), which is the standard procedure. Because they did not get this pre-approved there was a high chance my insurance would not cover it. I got both my insurance and Dr.Rabinovich's office on the phone and they refunded me the amount they charged for the consultation minus the $30 copay. A few weeks later I see that they submitted a claim with Cigna and not only did they charge an extra $100 for the consultation, they also filed a duplicate claim which Cigna automatically denied of course. Over 2 months later, I am still working with insurance on this claim. If you do decide to go here, make sure you get in writing what you will be charged for on your first visit, make sure they get everything pre-approved with your insurance, don't let them talk you into the CT scan without preapproval, and do not pay the full amount for the consultation if you know you are only supposed to pay the copay! I was nervous and just went along with this but should have fought back and really regret this! All the reps from Cigna that helped me with this said these billing practices are suspicious, sketchy, and unusual, so take that as you will. read more
