My entire treatment plan with Dr. Massoomi was almost 2+ years and I'm hopeful that I will not have to see him again anytime soon (for teeth stuff!!). I really can't say enough about Dr. Massoomi. I have somewhat severe anxiety and couldn't have found a better professional to help me through my extraction process. Dr. Massoomi is patient, kind, and sensitive to concerns. He seems to be one of the rare doctors who can empathize with people who may have had traumatic experiences and who require a little reassurance before jumping into the surgical chair. On top of that, he's very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions for curious patients like me. After looking at reviews online extensively I decided Dr. Massoomi was the best choice for me. Besides his awesome credentials he also has raving reviews online, and he did not disappoint. Had my lower right wisdom teeth removed by Dr Massoomi. It was close to the nerve (about 2-3mm) so I was quite nervous about it and looked up a lot of info online. Dr. Massoomi was great in helping calm my nerves and even answered my questions via email/ phone. Day of the surgery everything went smoothly, nerve was not touched at all. They do IVF anaesthesia which kind of tripped me out but I didn't feel a thing in the surgery. I was very nervous so that was great - I'd hate to be awake and hear them doing xyz to my teeth. They also pack the wound with bone growth material so there's almost no chance of dry socket. I had no issues in my recovery, I was off pain medication in under 5 days. read more

I'm a wimp when it comes to surgery, but the process was painless since I was asleep. Dr. Massoomi was very skilled and I had an easy recovery with no swelling. tl;dr easier than expected wisdom teeth extraction, including the removal of a tooth that had not yet surfaced. The facilities are sleek and modern, the nursing staff are wonderfully attentive and friendly, Dr. Massoomi answered all of my questions and then some. Also, as someone who never grew up making/responding to phone calls, it was surprisingly convenient to get voicemails detailing whatever they needed and then calling the front desk back for a confirmation/response. Background After forgetting to see a dentist for a few years, I finally made an appointment (elsewhere) and was told that although my wisdom teeth didn't hurt, they now had cavities since I physically could not reach them while brushing, and it was recommended that I don't keep them around. I found Dr. Massoomi when Yelp/Google said SFSA was a 10 minute walk away from my apartment. Pre-Surgery I filled out the forms online, emailed my dental office to let them know they may or may not need to send x-rays over, and contacted SFSA via their site for a wisdom teeth extraction consultation. Filling out the forms saved time on my end and theirs, although there was an extra call when they couldn't find my insurance initially (I don't recall if I properly indicated on the forms that it was a family plan, so not their fault either!) The consultation itself was great. I was already convinced to go through with the extraction before showing up, but I learned a lot more about the actual pros and cons of getting none vs. some vs. all of the wisdom teeth out. I did choose to get a 3D scan of my jaw at an additional cost - in my case, it allowed us to see whether or not my not-yet-surfaced tooth could feasibly be extracted - but Dr. Massoomi and staff were clear about all costs during/for this appointment and the next. During the consultation, I was informed of the possible dates for the surgery in the next couple of weeks; I had a couple preferences, but needed to confirm with family in a different time zone first. He kindly booked my top preference just in case, although I later called in and arranged for a different surgery date with the front desk. (They later called me to confirm for the original date by mistake - easy mistake to clear up though.) Surgery & Recovery A couple days before the actual surgery date, they called to remind me of the appointment and also emailed me a reminder with instructions for the day of, including a PDF attachment of what I can expect for the recovery itself (which was immediately forwarded to family). When I showed up for the appointment itself, I also scheduled a check up for the week after. The procedure itself was a breeze, though we may have started a little late, can't recall. My family came back after an hour, received the prescriptions as well as a whole page of well-written instructions for what to do with them. There were more drugs/prescriptions than I expected, but I imagine that's exactly why the recovery itself was a cakewalk; the next few days I didn't feel any pain at all, maybe 3 out of 10 at most. Numb and swollen day one, bleeding 90% gone after 48 hours, off baby food 6 days after the procedure - I suspect I could have eaten solid food sooner, but mom didn't want to risk it. I was fortunate enough to take a full week off of work for this - the one aspect of recovery that could have been better was the nausea, but it wasn't too bad when I could lie in bed playing mobile games all day anyways. Currently sitting at a week after my surgery, everything looked good during the check up, got instructions on what to do next. Not 100% back to normal, but not uncomfortable. Best way I can describe it is it's like my cheeks are a little sore from laughing too much. Overall would recommend, hope this was helpful! read more

Got my full grown wisdom teeth extracted with Dr. Massoomi after a referral from my Orthodonist. I also have a close friend working to become an oral & maxillofacial surgeon himself in New York who told me I was in good hands with Dr. Massoomi. Everything was executed with ease, from scheduling the consultation to the actual procedure. Couldn't be happier. Since I have never undergone surgery of any kind, I was a tad bit nervous, but Dr. Massoomi & the nurses provided great care before, during, & after the the surgery. Everyone was super personable, kind of sad I don't get to interact with them again for my general dental work. How'd the actual surgery go? GREAT! Nurses prepped me in the chair (even had an electric blanket over me), got a quick IV prick, & I immediately passed out. I woke up when the surgery was over an hour later & they walked me over to the super comfy recovery room. Dr. Massoomi checked up on me & gave my boyfriend my post-care rundown. Came back a week later for a post-operation check-up. Can't say being swollen & taking pain meds for a week was fun, but that was definitely the worst part of the entire experience. I am so happy that I went to Dr. Massoomi at SFSA to have my two impacted wisdom teeth extracted. I have never had a surgery before and I was feeling really anxious about the procedure. I was actually meant to have them pulled last year with a different oral surgeon. The other oral surgeon didn't even look in my mouth before he began pulling scare tactics and trying to pitch me the surgery like a car salesman. The staff and oral surgeon at the other location didn't give me any information about the procedure or after-care. When I would call to ask them questions I felt like I was being an inconvenience. I felt so uninformed and unprepared for my procedure so I canceled. I was referred to Dr. Massoomi and it was an entirely different experience. First, the office is so clean and all of the staff is friendly and welcoming. I wish I had learned all of the names of the staff because they were so friendly and pleasant. I was only able to learn one name, Sonia, who is a sweetheart and I had so much fun laughing and joking with her but everyone was truly so kind. Dr. Massoomi met with me and from the beginning he showed me compassion and patience. He explained the procedure to me and told me specifically what he would be doing during the surgery. He answered all of my questions and assuaged my fears. They gave me information about after-care during my initial visit and told me to call them or email them with any additional questions. When I had questions I sent emails and the staff and Dr. Massoomi responded promptly. I felt much more prepared for my surgery. On the day of my surgery, they sensed my nervousness and did all they could to calm me down. Sonia joked with me about her love of Korean dramas and assured me that I would be fine. Dr. Massoomi came in and answerd my questions and then we started. I was under IV sedation and from the very beginning Dr. Massoomi told me everything he was doing as he was working before I fell asleep. After the surgery I had some swelling, as expected, but very little pain. I followed the medication schedule very strictly (other than going off percocet since it made me nauseated) and generally felt okay. If you need to get any dental work done and you have any kind of stress or anxiety around doctors, needles, dental work... then you have to see Dr. Massoomi. I've had nothing but a great experience working with him and his staff. I had been avoiding getting my wisdom teeth out for as long as I can remember (15+ years) because I have A LOT of anxiety around needles, sedation, and really, who likes to get dental work done? But after seeing my orthodontist about Invisalign I was told I needed to get my wisdom teeth taken out before starting the treatment. So after being recommended to Dr. Massoomi by both my dentist and my orthodontist I read his reviews and decided to go in and meet him and give him a chance. I mean who is this oral surgeon with all these 5 star reviews? And now, one and half weeks after getting all my wisdom teeth out, I totally get it! Dr. Massoomi is one of a kind. If I could give him more than 5 stars I would. He truly cares about his patients and their health and you can tell the moment you meet him. I can't say enough great things about my experience working with him and his staff. I've never met an oral surgeon as compassionate and attentive as him. During my consultation I explained to him my anxieties and stress about getting my wisdom teeth out. I basically told him, I'm going to behave like a 5 year old child the day of the procedure because I was SO nervous and anxious about getting put to sleep, about getting an IV, about the whole idea of the procedure. I will say that for anyone else out there who has a fear of needles or stress and anxiety around dental work or being put the sleep, Dr. Massoomi is your guy. You can trust him. I'd see him again in a heart beat (and I will be at some point down the road). He and his staff made my experience the day of treatment the best one I've ever had. He is very personable. He's happy to answer every single question you have. He's happy to walk you through everything so you really understand what's going to happen, and when you get really nervous, he's happy to re-assure you over and over again that everything will be okay. Especially the day of my procedure when I came in very emotional and nervous, he was so kind and patient, and he was able to talk me through the whole thing (until I fell asleep). He helped make me feel eat ease and I really trusted him. After having a few really bad experiences with IV's and needles and dentist visits, I have to say Dr. Massoomi has just really helped me overcome some of my fears. I didn't feel anything the day of the procedure (he's so gentle with the IV), and in fact, I woke up from my sleep laughing. I was in part amazed and how quickly I felt time had passed, and I was laughing at myself because I had been SO nervous and anxious for nothing. I went into the procedure with some tears streaming down my cheeks and I woke up laughing at myself for being so afraid because it really turned out to be nothing and it was so great (I also had some great dreams while I was asleep - which felt like 5 minutes but in real time it was 45). In the future at some point I have to get a baby tooth extracted and a new implant put in, but now that I have Dr. Massoomi I'm not stressed about it at all. For me to be able to say this is HUGE! If I had to see someone else I probably would be nervous but because I know I can see Dr. Massoomi for this, I'm actually looking forward to getting it done. I know I'll be in great hands, and I know that he'll make me feel safe and listened too because he really does truly care about his patients and their health. And as for recovery, I followed all his instructions and ice'd my cheeks for 2-3 days post op and I ended up with no swelling at all. I took the pain meds he prescribed for the first 2-3 days and then the occasional advil after that. I have to say, in hindsight, the worst part of it all was having to eat smoothies/soft foods for the first 4 days, and there's nothing any doctor can do about that, haha. So if that was the worst it got for me, I'd have to say that's pretty great. I came to Dr. Massoomi after a recommendation from my general practice dentist to replace my existing (but recently broken) front tooth implant. Dr. Massoomi and his kind staff are extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and professional. I felt immediately at ease speaking with him and his staff in his state-of-the-art office space filled with the most up-to-date equipment, such as a 3D x-ray machine that immediately provided results for him to review with me on a large format TV screen for ease of use. He was also able to provide a 3D rendering of my new implant. The rendering was much more precisely measured than a old fashioned dental putty (ew) mock given to me by another oral surgeon I had previously worked with, and also much more aesthetically pleasing, which was important to me since this tooth is so visible. Dr. Massoomi is a bit pricier than some other oral surgeons, but as I mentioned, his training, superior skills, and use of technology will provide you with the best results. He's worth every penny. Honestly, I was afraid of mandibular nerve damage, as the bottom two were quite close to the nerves and impacted; however, Dr. Massoomi did an excellent job. I had minimal swelling and very little pain. The bleeding stopped in a few hours after the surgery, and I could eat pretty much whatever I wanted afterwards. My recovery only took less than 48 hours. One of the nurses walked me through my financial options and was very empathetic and knowledgeable. Dr. Massoomi also walked me through the procedure before hand and made sure that all of my questions were answered. I experienced some minor pain a week after surgery and he was happy to hop on a call, walk me through the possibilities, and suggest that I come in to ensure that everything was okay (which it was - I just wasn't cleaning the area thoroughly). Not having grown up in the U.S, I am one of the few individuals who has reached mid 30's without having any of my wisdom teeth removed. When my dentist informed me that I would have to have all four of my wisdom teeth removed, two of which are impacted, I was very nervous. Bottom Line: I had facial pains for 7 years on and off. It was like having an excruciating tooth ache.... but it traveled to all parts of my face. Now all gone, thanks for Dr. Nima Massoomi. History: Not to mention any names, my dentist of over 30 years, did not evaluate that my facial pain was coming from a severely impacted eye tooth (that was imbedded above my front teeth) and determined that the pain was not from and dental issue at all ! I lived with the excruciating pain for 2 to 3 months each year for 7 years. Vicodin did not even help for the pain: the only thing that worked for the pain was to take Advil every 2 hours to help me sleep.....which was not good idea when you have a history of stomach bleeding. During the course of seven years, I went to numerous doctors, including Ear Nose & Throat, and dentists. This pain would last for 2 to 3 weeks per episode. Of course when the doctors prescribed antibiotics for infection the pain would fade away. C.T. scans and x-rays did not show any dental or sinus problem (probably because they were ordered after the pain had dissipated.) Finally on my last episode this year of (whole head) facial pain: my primary doctor suggested that he thought I had Trigeminal Neuralgia and prescribed a medication for epilepsy, Carbamazepine, (which would be a life-long medication). In the meantime, my wife urged me to get, yet another CT scan, because she thought it would better to be done while I was having this facial pain. Bingo...the results came back as a dental problem due to an impacted eye tooth that was imbedded in the roof of my mouth. So it was a dental problem after all! Then my dentist at the time, gave the names to two Oral Surgeons. After contacting these Oral Surgeons, I decided to go to the one that someone had used in the past. This oral surgeon's office called me on the morning of my consultation and informed me that after reviewing my history the doctors decided..... they were not comfortable doing the surgery at all. They told me to call Stanford or UCSF hospital to have the surgery done in a hospital setting! No names of who to go to see or any referrals! At this point, I did not know what to do! Then a Miracle happened...... when I called my Niece, Dr. Cynthia Brattesani DDS in San Francisco and she referred me to a dental surgeon DR. NIMA MASSOOMI with offices in San Francisco and Cupertino. After my consultation with Dr. Massoomi, he said I did not need to go to a hospital after all for the oral surgery, he would do it right in his surgical office! I felt totally confident with him. I am so grateful that my niece referred me to Dr, Nima Massoomi. He is a wealth of knowledge and is a highly skilled surgeon with the upmost of professionalism. He is a Doctor who listens to the patient and takes lots of care with great attention. The short version: Nima Massoomi committed a grave violation of patient privacy by posting completely unaltered pre- and post-operative photos of my face on his blog after performing a surgical procedure on me. He also misquoted the procedure by $1000, and I've experienced chronic pain at the surgical site ever since the the surgery was performed in 2014. The long version: A few months ago I went onto a surgery forum to relate my surgery experience to others who were considering having the same procedure done. I'd had a sliding genioplasty (chin advancement) done by Dr. Nima Massoomi back in February of 2014 and I wanted to let others know that this surgery is not without risks-- I've experienced chronic pain in my chin ever since the procedure, and medical interventions by three different facial pain specialists have only brought a modicum of relief. Now, all surgery comes with risks, and the pain I've experienced wasn't necessarily the surgeon's fault, but my pain is not my gripe with Massoomi. After I wrote the post on the forum I decided to perform a web search using Dr. Massoomi's name and the word "genioplasty." To my horror, several clear, completely unaltered photos of my face showed up in the search results. No black box over my eyes. Just side and front images of my face, totally recognizable with no effort made to protect my identity. I followed the images and saw that they originated on Dr. Massoomi's blog, and that some had been taken from his blog and placed on other websites. I was absolutely aghast and humiliated. I gave permission for my photos to be shown on the grounds that (and I quote the release I signed) "MY IDENTITY WILL BE PROTECTED AND NOT REVEALED" and that they would be used for "research, diagnostic, educational, or therapeutic purposes only." Apparently Dr. Massoomi does not understand that one's face constitutes one's identity. Furthermore, his blog is for marketing purposes. Every single one of the half-dozen physicians and dentists I've related this story to have been appalled at such an overt and egregious infringement and have said that everyone in the field knows that you don't post photos without at the very least blacking out the patient's eyes. They encouraged me to report him to the Department of Health and Human Services for a HIPAA violation, which I recently did. On a slightly less egregious note, Dr. Massoomi misquoted my surgery by $1,000. I was initially quoted $7,500. A month or so before my surgery he told me I needed to come in for an Itero scan, which was basically a scan of my oral topography that would allow him to make a plastic guide to use during surgery. I was made to pay $1,000 for the Itero scan, which I figured was going to be put toward the $7,500 cost of surgery. But no, on the day of surgery I was made to pay $7,500 on top of the $1,000 I had already paid. Later on I found out from Massoomi's blog post that my surgery was the "first-ever CT-guided genioplasty" designed to help him avoid important nerve structures during surgery (some success that was, given the chronic pain I now have)--basically he decided shortly before my surgery that he was going to try something new on me without my knowledge and charge me for it. Unethical on multiple levels. If you're looking for an oral surgeon in the Bay Area, stay away from Nima Massoomi and San Francisco Surgical Arts. There are plenty of competent, honest oral surgeons in the area who abide by laws and codes of ethical conduct designed to protect patients. Unfortunately, Dr. Massoomi is not one of them. read more

I'm in my 30's and hadn't removed my wisdom teeth yet. My dentist from my teen years said it wasn't necessary so I never thought about removing them. My recent dentist recommend I perform the removal as a preventative measure. I was nervous and hesitant about the whole process. Enter Dr. Massoomi. His consultation session really put me at ease. A very modern facility with easy to talk to, experienced staff. The day of surgery I was again nervous but within 5min of sitting in the chair I was fast asleep. Upon waking up, I learned the procedure was over and there was absolutely no pain thanks to the medications. Recovery was fast and easy. On day 3 I was working from home and by day 4 I was back in the office. The Dr. was available multiple times through recovery for some simple questions I had. Dr. Massoomi is a skilled profession with a passion for his work. He puts forth a real effort in caring for his patients. I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Massoomi and his staff. Before seeing Dr. Massoomi, I had a consult for wisdom teeth extraction with another oral surgeon who told me my teeth were impacted and dangerously close to a nerve. I was a bit scared and decided to do another consult to get more questions answered. Dr. Massoomi thoroughly answered all my questions and then some, and made me feel comfortable about moving forward with the procedure. He even fit me in for the extraction the same day due to the time sensitive nature of the matter and my busy schedule. All staff members were incredibly friendly and supportive, and both the doctor and the staff were available to answer any questions I had during recovery. Overall, the procedure went smoothly and there were no complications! I would highly recommend Dr. Massoomi for anyone else looking for an oral surgeon. read more

My experience was excellent! I cannot say enough kind words to describe how grateful I am to Dr Massoomi and his wonderful staff for the care they gave me. Mai at the front desk was so helpful and reassuring on the phone that it would work out in the schedule, and was waiting for me when I arrived. They offered water, coffee or tea and a comfortable waiting area for a few minutes. Dr .Massoomi's surgical assistant, helped me get comfortable before the procedure began--chatting with me, helping me to understand the procedure. Then Dr. Massoomi came in and put me at ease right away, with compassion and sensitivity to my needs explaining everything he would do. Dr Massoomi extracted my family member's teeth and they subsequently developed a very severe and debilitating condition in the extraction site. It has been the worst time in our lives because of this. You should do your own research before any procedure to make sure it is appropriate and necessary. My regular dentist referred me to Dr. Massoomi for an emergency wisdom tooth removal (due to an infection that happened out of the blue) and I'm so happy this is where he sent me. I have been deathly afraid of scheduling my wisdom teeth removal for years. It wasn't procrastination, it was pure fear and loathing of oral procedures that prevented me from booking the appointment for so long. I consider myself very lucky to have ended up in Dr Massoomi's care. He was extremely detailed in explaining to me the problem, the procedure and the post-op care. I was on the verge of tears when I walked in, with a swollen face and a whole lot of pain. He instantly put me at ease and handled the entire process very carefully and professionally. He really made me feel like everything would be ok, as well as being completely honest with what to expect. I cannot recommend him and his team enough.
