Just received a VERY nice piece of jewelry from David Kodner (ahem!) and I'm very satisfied with his work... getting all sorts of compliments and attention on this piece. What really bumped him up to a five star review was his easygoing attitude. Went in there to have my ring sized down and he asked the inevitable question, "Did you set a date yet?". Being a tad wedding phobic and way too busy these days to even THINK about picking a date, I immediately tensed up and got defensive. His advice was to stay engaged as long as possible, and to just "enjoy the ride". So, rather than try to pressure us into getting married as quickly as possible so he could sell us some more stuff, this guy just offers some sound advice. How cool is that? I recently purchased an engagement ring here and everything about my experience was relaxed, pressure free, judgment free, and 100% authentic care for the product they were selling. I wasn't really "prepared" when I walked through the door, but Lynne was so incredibly helpful in finding the right setting, stone, and price for me. She was a pleasure to work with and let me talk out all my crazy thoughts and ideas and provided a tremendous amount of insight about the stones, the settings, and everything else related to the purchase. I purchased my girlfriend's engagement ring from Lynne here at David Kodner and, although I don't have the same experience level buying jewelry as a seasoned vet, I can easily say that this has been, by far, the best experience I have had. From the minute I walked in I felt very at ease. It was almost as if I was a visiting friend rather than a potential customer. They made it absolutely clear that their goal was to help me find the best ring possible, even if that meant not buying from them. Lynne and David spent several hours showing me the in's and out's of selecting a diamond. After shopping around at three or four other local jewelry stores (all of them had pushy used-car-salesman salespeople) I found that, to my extreme surprise, the prices weren't really any different than what DK offered. The free refreshments are nice, the downtown Clayton location is nice, the prices are nice; but with something as important as an engagement ring, my number one concern was finding the perfect ring and pairing it with the perfect ring-buying experience and that's exactly what I got at DK. I've always been worried about going to jewelry stores, because before I moved to St. Louis, my experiences were always tarnished by high-pressure sales tactics and such. That was not my experience here at all! The place is small and well-kept, the sales associate was very nice and did not pressure me at all, and I definitely plan on returning here for all of my jewelry needs! The prices are very reasonable, too--on par with online sellers. We just purchased our wedding rings from Chris at DK. We wanted to design her ring to include some diamonds my mother-in-law passed down to us. We went in with one idea, and several iterations later came out with some completely different that we still smile at each time we look at the ring. It is gorgeous. All the diamonds are hand-set and the design is 100% what we asked for and drew ourselves. Chris was very patient with our difficult desires and provided an excellent product that will last for ever. I want to start off by saying these reviews are what made me want to get my ring appraised from this place,and now I understand why so many people like it here.I too had an amazing experience I told Chris that I did not want my ring to be sitting at the store for a long time (2-3 days) because It made me uncomfortable and so he called me an hour later which was so much earlier than what I expected, all to keep me satisfied. Although, I did not pick up my ring, my fiancé did he also said he is an amazing down-to-earth guy and would definitely go there for other things. Dave couldn't be better! He is very nice, helpful, and knowledgable. Even though I probably spend less money there than any of his customers he treats me with incredible kindness and respect. Upon my first return, both he and his assistant Abby began calling me by name when I arrived. He's inexpensive for jewelry repair. I went to at least 2 places where I was told repairs were inexpensive and Dave was 1/2 the price! He also changes watch batteries at no cost to his customers - what a bonus! While they made a mistake in not communicating with us, they did go through significant lengths to make up for this. Immediately after my review, Mr. Kodner wrote me a lengthy email apologizing. The store was even kept open past their closing hour so that my fiance could pick up the ring after work. Additionally, Mr. Kodner apologized to him in person and refused any payment even though my fiance insisted. He realized that he had made a mistake and was adamant that he make this a positive experience for us. He only asked that we give him another chance in the future. We are reasonable people- we were not upset that the ring was late, but that we felt like there was no communication to let us know. That said, I do believe Mr. Kodner realized this and did everything he possibly could to make it right with us. He went above and beyond anything we could have expected. It shows that he takes his customers seriously. We were very impressed with this effort and certainly appreciated the gesture. Just purchased our wedding rings from Chris @ DK and I am thrilled with our decision to do so. My then-fiance and I designed my wedding ring from scratch and purchased one of the men's ring in the store. We decided to design my ring for multiple reasons, but primarily because I owned a number of old rings from my mother and wanted to incorporate the diamonds from those. Additionally, I wanted one wide band in place of an engagement ring and wedding band. I don't know if I thought this process would be "easy", but I don't think I was prepared for how much there was to think about. I had many small diamonds of varying sizes and so the standard designs often didn't incorporate the diamonds I already owned. When I finally settled on a rough style it took several CAD renditions to finally love the design. I think this was primarily because I didn't know exactly what I was looking for and didn't speak the language of the business. Chris was amazing, though. After the first couple designs didn't meet my expectations he made sure to talk me through next steps and adjustments. Once we got the design right it took about 2.5 weeks for casting and setting and the wait was worth it. The actual ring was a million times better than my expectations. I was so pleased. My husband selected a tungsten band and it took about four weeks from the date of order to arrive. It came in perfect condition. Chris was really great about helping us understand our men's ring options and why one would choose a style/metal over another. I think we both felt fully informed and prepared to make a good-fit decision. When we picked up our rings we were overjoyed to learn that we came in exactly on budget. Chris had been great throughout the entire process and made it clear that his goal was to have us end this process happy. Even in the design phase, when I was unhappy with a particular design, I was happy about the process and about the choice of Chris @ DK as a jeweler. I recently visited David Kodner's while looking to purchase an engagement ring. As I would expect most guys in my situation, I had no idea initially what I was doing/looking for. When I was there I spoke to Chris, he first told me congratulations on getting to this point in my relationship. I then explained to him a bit about what I was looking for. He showed me a few great options but at that point I was still trying to get a feel for things. I visited other jewelers and then went back to David Kodner's because Chris was incredibly helpful and not pushy in anyway. I was looking for yellow diamonds which can be more difficult to find. He was able to get some in for me and then went on to explain how the certifications work as well as other very useful information that was helpful, regardless if I bought from them. I emailed back and forth and he was always very responsive and again always demonstrated great knowledge and genuine interest in me finding the right diamond for me to be fiancée. I felt he was entirely honest with everything he told me and not just looking to make a sale. I did end up going with another jeweler but it was not in anyway due to the lack of service I received, it just came down to price but they were close in that as well. I will most definitely consider them for any future jewelry needs. Walking in their store I never once felt pressured and very welcomed, I would recommend going there to anyone in search of an engagement ring. Stopped by to fix my husband's Tiffany chain. Tiffany was estimating $150 and at least 2 weeks to complete. So, we decided to try a local Jeweler and we found the perfect one! My now ex husband bought my diamond at this place. He paid $38,000 for it & it was put on a $5000 band from ShaneCo. When my husband purchased the diamond, the owner raved about how great of a diamond it was & it was top of the line & blah blah blah. Fast forward 7 years later my husband & I divorced & when I went to see if he would buy the diamond back, he would only give me $18,000 for the entire ring & tried to tell me it was a "used, yellow" diamond that would be hard to sell. Mind you I had an appraisal done on this ring by the most well known jewelry appraiser in St Louis & it appraised for $59,000. When I told him I wouldn't accept the $18,000 he offered to put it on the market for me. After a month on the market, I decided to pick it up. I called the store & left 4 messages with no return phone call. I went to the store & saw my ring sitting in a case & it looked awful. No shine to it & dirty. He wasn't trying to sell it. I told him I wanted it back & he told me the diamond market had gone down but he would give me $15,000 for it. Completely insulted I walked away from this train wreck. It was not 30 seconds later another employee came out to help me. All I needed was 2 watch bateries replaced. I must admit I was very anxious beginning the process of purchasing an engagement ring. I had heard many horror stories of bad experiences from friends and family. I didn't know much about diamonds and I didn't want to get taken advantage of in the process. I was fortunate to meet Dave Kodner through a mutual club we belong to. He came highly recommended, but I still had reservations. I think the biggest thing I noticed initially was the professionalism. The store is very classy and nice. Friendly staff. And Dave had an immediate connection with my soon to be finance which I knew was important during this daunting task. He was so patient and really allowed my girlfriend the time to select the ring she wanted. Absolutely zero pressure which from being in Sales myself, I could only envy and respect Dave's approach. At the end of the day we made a selection and I couldn't be happier with the finished product. More Importantly my girlfriend can't wait to have the ring on her finger! She is very happy. I think the process and experience made it that much better. I can't say how much I appreciate Dave and his time for this great experience. We had such an amazing experience shopping for our wedding bands here. We worked with Lynne, and she was so helpful and honest. We had some loose diamonds that were my fiancee's grandmothers and an old cluster ring that was my grandpa's that we wanted to use to make my band. She had their in house jeweler take the diamonds out of the cluster ring and went through them with us one by one to pick out the best matching 6 - which took a lot of patience on her part! I got updates from her throughout the next few weeks that it took to have our custom piece made. It came out perfectly!! And the nicest thing about this place is they are true to their word; Lynne had quoted us a max price and it somehow turned out costing more than expected and she did not make us pay the extra amount because she had guaranteed us the first price. That is nearly unheard of, and she did not think twice about it! We also got my fiancee's band here, he wanted a tungsten band but they did not have one that he liked in the store so they ordered 4 that he picked from a catalogue and when they came in we were able to go there and try those bands that they ordered in just for him. He ended up finding the perfect one thanks to this personalized service. We will most definitely be coming back here for years to come, and the complimentary beer, soda, coffee, and snacks are nice too ;) And, they offer free polishing of my band (and my engagement ring that I did not purchase from them) any time I want to drop by. I had several family rings that I needed to figure out what to do with (sell, scrap, keep), and one that I ended up removing some of the stones from and putting them into a different setting that I wear with my wedding band. Lynne helped me through the process in such a kind and patient way! Also, I bought my wedding ring from a different company, an online company, and Chris helped me to size my finger so that I could tell that company what size I wore. I was nervous to ask, since it wasn't their business, but he was so gracious about it and helped me out! Such great service at DK. I have only given them about $500 of business so far, but they still treat me like a highly valued customer, which is thrilling to me because I am not a high-end jewelry lover but I want to work with people I can trust. It is hard to find a good personal jeweler whom you can really trust and who is easy to work with. After dealing with other local jewelers, I was pleasantly surprised by David Kodner. This is not the kind of pushy, pretentious, and obnoxious place where they drown you in a "How much will you spend here?" attitude. His shop doesn't offer those cookie cutter pieces - his collection seems very unique. His repair cost is very reasonable as well.
