Both my kids have been going to Dr. Rothman's dental practice for over a decade. My daughter is now away at college and Dr Rothman has been taking care of her since she was in elementary school. My son has been going since he was in elementary school and he's now in high school. The staff are always nice, and the office is very clean. The office is on ground level, so there is no need to go up a set of stairs or an elevator. The dental assistants/techs are also very good with kids. Dr. Rothman's office location has plenty of nearby free neighborhood parking, although there are metered parking spots directly in front of the office. (There is literally free parking 25-50 feet around the corner of the office.). So to summarize: * Excellent Dentist, * awesome staff, * clean office, * excellent parking. Note: My daughter started going to Dr. Rothman when she was 7? Or 8? and she's now 21. My son started going around the same age, and he's now 15. I've always been impressed and satisfied with the care and treatment of my kids by Dr. Rothman. He connects well with kids, and he's a hoot to talk to. You won't regret bringing your kids to him. I can't express enough how thankful I am for Dr. Rothman and his team. My daughter, and I - both are scared of Dentists, but his team has always been so supportive. Truly so thankful for his care, you can definitely see his many years of experience! My daughter had a fractured / chipped tooth at 7 months old - he assured us and put a cap over it. Now at 2 years old the tooth was getting infected - we tried to go to a "closer" dentist - TERRIBLE idea. Dr. Rothman and his staff have the experience to help. My son has Autism and he is 6 years old and we've been to 3 dentist's in the last 5 years and they looked inside his mouth and never really tried to do much. Today Justin though, oh my goodness, he was amazing. He cleaned his teeth, flossed, check out each tooth and removed two loose teeth that were almost falling out in a split second. Don't get me wrong it was like WWE wrestling mania with Twister moves, sweat, blood, tears, holding down my kid. I know it's difficult, but I need him to learn that dental visits are almost forever, I can hold him down when while he's still 6 years old. Dr. Rothman was wonderful, patient and kind, brushed his teeth and sent us off to come back in 6 month. The office staff was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! So very kind. read more

I like Dr Rothman as a pediatric dentist. He and his staff have a good way with kids and makes going to the dentist easy for us parents. Safe to say that generally kids and dental visits don't go together like marshmallows on hot coco. Our youngest child can be a monster, he's a 2and a half old boy. Getting him to do anything is difficult. His first visit to the dentist was easy enough though thanks to the staff at this office. Dr Rothman has a stiff stance towards food. Bread, milk, juice and other standard foods can break down tooth enamel. He stresses limited exposure to standard foods as well as some standard things. Milk before bedtime is fine as long as you brush afterwards. These are common sense notions but sometimes new parents might not think about it as much. Not to mention some of us like sugar more than others. They also have WiFi for guests. Awesome all the way around. read more

My little boy just had his first dentist appointment today and it was literally the best first dental experience I could have asked for. Every single person we met and worked with were all amazing and welcoming. I worked at Nordstrom during high school and my college years and I know what excellent service is. The folks here have it down! After checking in with Kim, we met Justin the R.D.A who was assigned to work with us. He greeted us at the waiting area and my son was very willing to follow him in. Justin made him feel extremely comfortable. He had him choose a toothbrush, then we settled into our exam room. Justin showed my son what tools he was working with and helped him participate during the entire cleaning process. Seriously folks, this entire experience was top notch! My boy is usually a squirmy little guy and has autism spectrum disorder but Dr. Rothman and his team were able to exam him with little crying. My boy loved using the tools to clean up all the bubbles and being a helper. After Justin finished cleaning his teeth, he even voluntarily sat on the patients chair all by himself. They took 1 X-ray (to check out a tooth during a fall), and my little boy didn't cry one bit. Dr. Rothman was very helpful and answered all of our questions. I highly recommend this office! We left happy and my little boy was all smiles. He loved picking out a toy in the treasure chest. Overall, outstanding experience. Thank you Dr. Rothman, Justin and Kim! You all made our day. This review has been long overdue. I have been bringing my daughter to Dr. Rothman's office since 2009 before my daughter was even a year old. My daughter was born with a cleft lip/palate and we were referred to Dr. Rothman for some specialty care. Dr. Rothman and his whole team are amazing!! They are very knowledgeable, patient, and it's evident that they care for their patients. I have decided to continue driving almost 50miles from my home to his office for my daughters routine dental care for the past 14 years because they are wonderful and worth it! We've been going here since my kids were toddlers. Justin, the hygienist, is amazing so our kids always request him. Not only is he great with kids and entertains them, he also explains what he's doing and sees to the parents. As for Dr. Rothman, if he finds issues, he'll suggest what needs to be done, but is not pushy since it's ultimately the parent's decision. Just last month, his office squeezed my son in for some tooth discomfort. He was able to correctly diagnose a rare condition where a root canal was needed. He referred me to an endodontist where the diagnosis was confirmed. I'll continue to go here until my kids are too old. read more

I think the hygienists and the office are great. Dr. Rothman though was very condescending towards me and each time I left I felt really judged. And my kids didn't even have cavities! He was just super harsh and seemed to talk to me much more than to my kids. Our best visit was when we had one of the younger dentists who was doing some sort of internship with him. She was great! Ok - this place is just fantastic. We switched dentists after moving to Ingleside and are so happy for this to be our kids family dentist! All the staff are super nice, the dental assistant Justin was awesome and totally rocked it with making my squirmy toddler laugh, showed him how everything worked and was so great with making him feel comfortable. Dr Rothman was more low key but funny and gave very sensible advice. They really take the time to educate the parents. If I could give this office 10 stars I would. I had been dreading taking my 2 year old son to the denist in fear of how he would react to someone trying to look in his mouth. (We struggle every night to get him to let us brush his teeth.) Kudos to Justin, the dental hygenist who cleaned my son's teeth. Dr. Rothman is amazing. When I took my oldest for his first dental check up, I was really anxious about how it would go, but Dr. Rothman put me and my son at ease immediately. I was especially impressed by his techniques for getting an almost three year-old to cooperate during toothbrushing and I now use them myself to brush the kids' teeth. The staff was very friendly and there were lots of books and toys to play with in the waiting room. This is a long overdue review! My kids (now 9.5 and 6 years old) have been seeing Dr Rothman twice a year since they were around 2 years old and we are so lucky to have such a great pediatric dentist. The modern office is lovely/kid friendly and the staff know how to make young ones very comfortable with dental work. My kids actually look forward to their visits with Dr David! Not long ago, my 6 year old had a scooter accident on a Sunday in the late afternoon. The impact knocked out one baby tooth and pushed her two upper front teeth backward - blood everywhere. We called Dr Rothman and he personally met us at his office within the hour to attend to my daughter's dental trauma. It helped a lot that my daughter was familiar with Dr Rothman and his dental office and we were all so grateful that we didn't have to go to the local emergency room where I'm sure we would have been stuck there for hours. Instead, Dr Rothman examined my daughter and performed the necessary procedures (getting all the x-ray equipment etc going) on his own, without any of his usual dental assistants. We were out of his office in about an hour and my daughter held up well, considering the amount of trauma she had been through. I'm not sure that many pediatric dentists would have come into the office at 5:30pm on a Sunday for such a situation, but we greatly appreciated Dr David being so attentive. Needless to say, I would highly recommend Dr Rothman. It gives us such peace of mind to know we have a highly skilled and caring dentist for our kids! ~ As an added bonus, parking around the office is SO easy. One less thing to stress about since we're always running late! read more

Third appt for my 3 yr old today, and while I believe Dr. Rothman knows his trade, I do not connect with his approach towards interacting with parents and kids. Instead of asking me what my son needs help working on, he used a boiler plate approach to telling my son I wrote down on a piece of paper that he doesn't sit through meals and doesn't let his mom help him clean his teeth. While I appreciate the intent, the approach is bad. It isn't based in reality, and undermines me as the parent. I also did to appreciate his approach to telling me what to do with my son's thumb sucking habit. I appreciate facts about the damage it's causing, but I do not want the dentist telling my son new rules about his thumb sucking without checking with me to make sure that's how I want to handle it. Long story short, if you need a good dentist and don't mind being talked down to - this guy is for you. read more

I have two small kids that are his patient. Overall the treatment that he gives is good but the only bad thing I didn't like is the way they do their billing and the prices. My recent experience is when I received a bill for $52. Our insurance company is Met LIfe and I've been with them for a long time. They say they bill on the high side and bill regular routine cleaning and check up are excessive. Did extra flouride treatment not covered by insurance and did not tell me till I get the bill. I mean it should not cost $203 for a 2 year old to get his teeth cleaned and looked at. No X=ray. In and out in less than half an hour. The insurance paid $189. Anyway, I told them I will not take my kids back again. That's it. Should be a lot of good kids dentist out there not so expensive. read more

Everyone is so kind and friendly and make the experience fun for the kids. My son was mesmerized by Gina the hygienist, and by Dr. Dave. There are plenty of flavor options for toothpaste, dental polish (made from volcano ash!) fluoride treatment, show the kids what's going to happen, and have lots of sneaky techniques to keep the kids either engaged or distracted depending on what they're doing. After my son had a horrible and painful dental experience at another dental office, we went to Dr. Rothman. My son was terrified of the dentist, given his last bad experience. Dr. Rothman and his staff were fantastic. Every visit my son would work himself into a frenzy and Dr. Rothman and his staff calmed him down each time. My son fell and split his lip open. On a Saturday morning, Dr. Rothman met us at his office and skillfully stiched my son's lip, plus checked to insure the adult teeth were not affected by the accident. While stiching my son's lip, Dr. Rothman sang several verses of Sponge Bob Squarepants, just to keep everyone happy and calm. Fast forward five years and now my son enjoys going to see Dr. Rothman! I highly recommend Dr. Rothman to anyone who is looking for a great dentist for children. Especially for those who may have had a bad experience or who may need a little more TLC. read more

It doesn't get any better than Dr. Dave kids' dentist Both of my children have been going to Dr. Dave for over 6 years. He and his staff are the best. They are engaging, funny and very professional. Dave really likes kids and watches out for them. Dave gives my little girl teeth with fairy tale names, they put on crazy sunglasses to screen the bright light, get small gifts every time they come. Dave also counsels my older boy to brush more and has referred him to a superior orthodontist. He always has a smile and talks with the kids about things that interest them. After the root canal, her tooth still didn't look so great. It's that "ghost teeth" thing. She started asking why her teeth looked so weird. We didn't want her to get a complex about it, so we decided to cap the tooth. That was just about as difficult as the root canal--having to hold my daughter down, crying (both of us), but it was worth it. Her tooth looks great! That was six months ago. We had to go in today for cleaning and routine check up and my daughter was actually excited to see Dr. Rothman. She insisted on drawing a picture to give to him when she saw them. If your child has some extensive dental work needed, I highly recommend Dr. Rothman and his staff. (I think he might specialize in kids younger than my son who is 8; he's very silly). I never expected anything like this since a toddler is hard to predict. My two boys (3 and 5) have been patients of Dr Rothman for their whole lives. He has always been kind, generous with his time and attention, and funny in a way that magnetizes children and parents. On top of that he and his staff are simply top notch when it comes to professionalism and care. I come from multiple generations of dentists and doctors and Dr Rothman is as good at the human side of caregiving as I've ever seen. I was compelled to write a review today because I took my youngest to see Dr Rothman to check a tooth that had turned blue after he had crashed on his bike. Turned out that my 3 year old needed a root canal. Gulp! What I thought was going to be a brutal experience for all involved turned out to be a really excellent one. Granted it was a root canal. But my boy was super at ease and calm throughout the procedure and in no small part due to Dr Rothman and his teams great demeanor and quick, proficient work. No tears. No whimpers. No problems. If you have a kid and are looking for a dentist in SF, go to Dr Rothman. You will not be sorry. One more thing. We moved to Oakland last year and still drive to Dr Rothman. We were referred to his practice because our soon-to-be 7yo is super sensitive to taste and he needed some major work on a cavity. We were greeted by fabulous wit, an atmosphere and chair-side manner that put our son at ease and solutions instead of obstacles. Dr. Rothman is a mensch, he works with top-tier pediatric anesthesiologists and he knows from kids' teeth. Truly, this is the platonic ideal of a kids' dental practice and thank you to Dr. Rothman and team for lifting this worry from my shoulders.
