Daughter's been seeing Dr. Rothman for awhile and I don't normally write reviews. But, I just received an invoice from them and I was surprised that I was charged for more work. When I called to inquire about this, they said that this was in the paperwork that was signed that day for the procedure. Does not get any better than this! After two referrences (daughter's Pediatrician and my colleague), I finally took my almost 3-year old daughter to her FIRST dentist visit on Wednesday. Making an appointment was easy, Faye (the receptionist) is very kind. You have your option of filling out the new patient forms online, prior to the visit or upon arrival. The office is clean, open, welcoming, plenty of natural light, toys for the little ones and state of the art equipment. There are plenty of street parking outside (no meters!). The staff is very friendly and Justin (RDA) did an amazing job with the introduction and getting right into the cleaning. I love how he had my daughter hold the suction/straw the whole time he cleaned her teeth as well as entertained her. Justin and Dr. Rothman are very knowledgeable and are great with kids! My daughter had a very pleasant experience! She even told me once we got in the car that she wanted to go back!! Oh she'll be back alright, in six months that is(",) I wish that more dental offices were like Dr. Rothman's, there would definitely be less fear of going to the dentist. read more

After reading the reviews on yelp, I decided get an appointment for my almost 3 years old daughter. It was easy to get one quickly and the paperwork was sent home. I was wondering how my daughter would react as she can be frightened and stubborn... Anyway, we went today and I was simply amazed! The front desk was very helpful and nice (I forgot my paperwork religiously filled in at home...). I don't remember the name of the very nice hygenist but she was great!! She managed to entertain my daughter and get what she wanted from her. Dr Rothman was very nice and again my daughter was fine. I could not believe it. It was a very nice first visit for my daughter, I can even say she enjoyed it! Also, I realized today I was doing a lot of things good but some wrong (fluoride intake not sufficient for instance). Yes, another 5-star review here! He has a wonderful bedside manner with children, and deserves some stars for that alone, but I give him *5* stars because he is simply incredibly smart and expert at what he does. My 10-year-old daughter developed an abscess on her gum, and the X-ray was inconclusive as to which exact tooth had died and caused the abscess as symptom. Although the abscess was close to one tooth, Dr. Rothman somehow intuited that it was actually a neighboring tooth that was the source. With my permission, he went ahead and drilled into the one he suspected. It was very stressful for me to watch...but he was right! It's no joke to have your child have to have a root canal done, but thanks to Dr. Rothman, an even more serious problem was quickly averted, and without first drilling into the obvious (but wrong!) tooth. I just wish he accepted *adult* patients---I would switch in a heart beat! read more

I've been going to this office since I was a very young child, when Dr. Traubman was the main dentist. I enjoy Dr. Rothman way more than Dr. Traubman (I may have punched Traubman in the mouth when I was a kid - hey, I don't remember doing that!). He has great bedside manner and makes great conversation with his patients. Not sure if he actually remembered me or if he took notes in the chart, but either way it feels good to go to a dentist who gives you that "small town" vibe. After an extensive search years ago we chose Dr Rothman and his team for our sons complicated Dental needs! This is three years later and I am still so thrilled we found them. My son and I were so Dentist phobic after a couple of bad experiences. Dr Rothman and his team have tenderly nurtured my son into a boy with a beautiful smile that actually enjoys his checkups. Just wait until your kids see a real dentist. I was unable to see Dr. Rothman one day before i went back to school to get a cavity filled that he had found. Upon visiting my parents' dentist, i found I actually had five cavities, with two more forming. My sister has just gone through the same experience, with our parents' dentist having found five cavities, most of which he not only did not find, but was the cause of, due to improper and complete cleaning. He is a nice guy and makes you feel comfortable, but do not let that allow you to fall for the inferior dentistry skills (as well as equipment) of him and his staff. read more

We love Dr. Rothman. My daughter injured one of her front teeth as a toddler, and when it turned gray, she had her first visit to the dentist. We have been with Dr. Rothman for 6 years, and his office is clean, well run and kid friendly. Dr. Rothman is professional and absolutely hilarious. He and his staff immediately put kids and parents at ease. He doesn't pour on the guilt, but gives good tips and advice. His winning sense of humor keeps us going back. Love him! read more

The front desk receptionist was excellent! My son needed to be seen and they fit him in the same day even though it probably could have waited a few more days. All of the paperwork was faxed in by me since my husband took my son in. I had absolutely no problem with any of it. Hubby says the doctor was excellent and very nice. Overall my son had an awesome experience. They made him feel comfortable and sent him home with stickers and a new toothbrush and floss. This will definately be the office we stick with! read more

If there were 10 stars on Yelp, I would have given them to these guys! Justin, the hygenist, had both of my boys (3 & 4.5) in stiches! He was working hard at entertaining them but they were laughing(!) the whole time he was cleaning/polishing their teeth. I have never seen anything like this before. He was also knowledgable about do's & don't of nutrition as it relates to dental health. Even Dr. Rothman was so easy going and nice. He was so realxed about takling to our son's bite (damn paci!) and how me may benefit slightly from speech therapy. He did not make it sound like it was the end of the world either like most other doctors do. Both of the boys wanted to brush their teeth willingly last night...i just hope it lasts. read more

When my son was 2 1/2, I started noticing that his front teeth looked like they were decaying around the gum-line and he was showing sensitivity there. I took him to another dentist who told me that his teeth were just coming in deformed. 3 months later, the decay had worsened and the other dentist told me that he'd never seen decay happen that quickly. We never let him sleep with a bottle - and in fact, he wasn't taking a bottle anymore at that point. We were also vigilant about limiting sweets. Dr Rothman came to our rescue. He let us know that he thought the decay was a result of our son drinking juice throughout the day. Although he only had 1 or 2 glasses a day, because he sipped at it throughout the day, the teeth never got time to recover from the sugar and acids! Dr Rothman and his staff were incredibly understanding and informative with regards to what needed to be done. My son ended up having general anaestesia in the office - with several fillings, 2 caps and 2 pseudo-root canals. Amazingly, when we took our son back for his first real teeth cleaning, our son did great! He wasn't scared or anxious - which is a huge credit to Dr Dave! I can't speak highly enough about Dr Rothman and his staff! read more

Dr. Rothman and his staff are fantastic with kids. I had brought my daughter to another dentist when she was 1.5 and they basically pinned her down and tortured her. Now, she is 4 and my son is 1.5, and the difference is remarkable. My 1.5 year old cried for about 10 seconds and then was delighted and engaged. My 4 year old came home and that night, excitedly exclaimed "we have to go floss my teeth now mommy!" They make going to the dentist fun...now if only I could find an adult dentist who could make me excited about flossing my teeth. read more

We are very impressed with his medical knowledge and skills, his knowledge far eceedes that which goes on in the mouth, but it is his interpersonal skills we are most impressed with, for our children are at ease with him and they listen to what he has to say. I can't say enough great things about Dr. Rothman and his staff, they are fantastic! Reception is always friendly and efficient, the hygienists make the cleaning a breeze and Dr. Rothman really knows how to connect with the kids. They take his messages to heart and are proud to be cavity free. My kids, age 8 and 3yr twins, have no fears about going to the dentist and actually think it is fun. They especially love the goody bag of toys and tooth care items. My daughter just turned 5 and has had unfortunate bad luck with her teeth from a fall when she was nearly 2. Given her history, she is extremely frightened of the dental chair and needs a lot of sensitivity and a light hearted friendly approach to ease her into the process. At the recommendation of our regular dentist we came to see Dr Rothman for additional work needed. I would anticipate a pediatric dentist with high credentials and much experience to show a little compassion and understanding when a child who is resistant. Not only did he seem to expect her to march into that chair and sit still like a soldier, but was threatening her that I had to leave the room because she wasn't cooperating which made her even more agitated. As a parent it is heart wrenching for me to see such a mild mannered and wonderful child go through so much torture for her to even have her teeth looked at. I then tried every bribery tactic and cajoling in the book to entice her to let him work on her mouth, but an hour after trying, even struggling to hold her on my lap, we were defeated. I would have thought with their experience they would been able to help me in some way! Instead, as we walked out of the room and I was emotionally and physically exhausted, this damn guy has the nerve to say to me with a smug attitude, "Clearly this child has never had to deal with negative consequences in her life!" Well, Clearly doctor, we will not be returning to this office! Ordinarily, I am not one to post commentary, especially negative commentary, but after feeling so enraged with that remark I felt it imperative!!! read more

I tried to take my daughter to Dr. Rothman several times when she was very little, about 3 -4 years old. We did not have a good experience. He appeared very impatient with her, and she was terrified of his office and staff. We are now at a different pediatric dentist and have a completely different, positive experience. At two my son was diagnosed with baby bottle tooth decay - my fault for putting milk in his bottle at night. I took him to about three dentists before finding Dr. Rothman. The others were proposing putting on crowns in the dental office which as we all know is dangerous. Dr. Rothman explained a new law had passed that required our health insurance to pay for general at a hospital and we had it done at Children's in Oakland where we felt much safer and in better medical hands for a child's surgery. He was fantastic with my son - no tears - he did not even know he was having an exam. After screams and fear with the other docs, I knew we had someone special. This was now nine years ago and we still think he is the best. When we were told by a family member that one kid should have braces Dr. Rothman told us it would be a waste of money and pain for our child until he was older. How often do you get that honest kind of advice? He is not only superior in his academic credentials, he is a wonderful human being. Our four kids have gone to him and we all love him. Just took my 3.5 year old daughter here for her 3rd visit & it was literally the best dental experience you could ever ask for in a pediatric dentist. Dr. David & his dental hygienist Justin are both awesome & my daughter loved coming here. She is the typical defiant 3 year old who makes brushing teeth the most difficult part of our morning & evening routine - but you'd never know that when you're here. Justin has excellent technique & was like a stand up comedian keeping her laughing as he got her comfortable with every single step of the cleaning... And Dr. David is a consummate professional. I am so happy with my choice to switch here from a previous pediatric dentist that I am yelping this from the waiting room after the appointment. They are that good. I rarely yelp, but this dentist is the BEST! Over the past few years, we have always enjoyed taking our son there for check-ups and cleanings and his staff is professional and sweet. However this past weekend when my 5 year old fell and knocked out his tooth and bit his lip, Doctor Rothman was AMAZING! We've been to Dr. Rothman's for about two years. Our almost 4 year old loves going and soon, our 18m son will be there too! Dr. Rothman has a gift with kids and communicates well with adults too!Much credit must be given to the staff. They really LOVE kids and absolutely do their best to make it fun and comfortable. Took our toddlers to Dr. Rothman for checkups twice, but we are not going back. The staff was friendly and good with children. However the dentist seemed rather impatient with scared children (our are under 2 years old) and did not have a great bedside manner. He seemed more intent on getting the exam done quickly. Also Dr. Rothman made several "out there" statements about teething pain and sugar content of certain snacks. there are some people that were put on this earth to do what they do and dr. rothman and his team in san francisco were put on this earth to take care of children's teeth. we first came to dr. rothman because my daughter had baby bottle tooth decay and needed to go under general anesthesia for multiple cavities. after that experience, even though we live in mill valley, we still travel to see dr, david for all our pediatric dental needs. kimi and fay are both so kind and attentive and patient care is first. and justin...what can i say...the kids run to him and he is so kind. whether you need regular checkups or have special needs this is the place. their new offices are gorgeous, spacious and you are instantly put at ease! check out this amazing team. read more

I recently took my 4 year old to see Dr. Rothman for a second opinion on severe cavities on all of his molars. He was easy to talk to and kind to my son from the start and his staff knew exactly how to distract my son so I could have a long conversation. He took a lot more time explaining his theories about why a 4 year old could have such damaged teeth than the previous dentist and he made sure that I could see the extent of the damage with my own eyes. Because of my son's past asthma and reflux issues (all part of the resulting bad teeth), we decided to do his extensive root canal and cavity procedure in hospital at Dr. Rothman's suggestion. Again, he was correct because my son felt no pain and enjoyed the hospital experience. I am so glad that I decided to get a second opinion and that Dr. Rothman completed the procedure for my son. After doing a lot of homework about each dentist's opinion, I am totally confident that we made the right decision in Dr. Rothman. read more
